I have a double spring garage door, where one of the springs broke. David came out to diagnose it, and quoted me a price of $450 for one spring replacement, but correctly noted it's a bad idea to replace only one spring, and quoted me a price of $900 for two springs. A brand new spring and an old spring working in tandem in a double-spring setup would cause the door to twist off the rails because it's being pulled harder in one direction rather than in unison, though David did not tell me this when going through the repair options. As David was walking to his truck to get tools, $900 struck me as high, and I did a quick Google search. Multiple web pages told me the price of replacing a garage door spring is around $250. I walked to the truck and showed this to David. David did not argue "I use higher quality equipment" or "I do better work"; maybe that's true, maybe that's not. But instead he told me that the web pages were "wrong" and that no one would even give me that price. When I expressed skepticism, as he admits, he offered to replace just one spring (which, as we just noted, would cause damage to the door setup) for "10% off." If you ask around on Yelp, several shops will quote you $250 for one spring and $350 for two. The web pages were not wrong. It was not the case that no one would do the work for the price that the web pages quote. I feel I got offered the "I think you're a sucker" price. And I guess I was, because Consumer Reports says you should get three quotes before hiring someone for exactly this reason. Fortunately, I caught a vibe that saved me a few hundred bucks. Hey, I charge a lot more than others in my field; I get that, and don't begrudge someone else selling a luxury service. I'm busier than I have time for at my prices because I'm good. But I don't pretend to potential clients that they can't hire someone else at less than half the cost, and told the last guy who tried to hire me that he shouldn't spend the money on me. But I'll up GDSM to two stars because David was on time on short notice, and interrupted me at work only once with an angry phone call about my complaining on Yelp about an attempted ripoff. If I ever wanted to pay twice the going rate for garage door repair, I wouldn't hesitate to use David. read more

Called and set up a service call on March 4, 2024 as garage door was not closing due a rail alignment issue. Tech came to house and communicated to my wife the repair would be approximately $500. She called me and even though I thought it was high - told her to move forward. I was shocked we she called me and told me the total invoice was for $1585. $695 for labor ( was told after I called about invoice that this was standard fee - even though tech communicated $500.) A pair of cables for $385 ( these can be purchased at home depot or online at Grainger for $40-$60 for the pair). A bottom bracket for $220 ( this can be purchased at home depot or online at Grainger for $25 ). The final charge was for the opener adjustment & repair bracket at $285 ( this is the opener bracket which can be purchased for $25). I called the office asking to speak with someone about the invoice. No one ever communicated the cost of the parts or an additional labor charge for the opener adjustment to my wife. I finally spoke to Mike at their office who said he would get back with me that afternoon - which never happened. After multiple calls back, I finally received a text on March 8th that the manager approved a 10% discount. The website offers a 10% discount if you schedule an appointment online - and this was not on original invoice. It has been over 3 weeks - no one has ever called to discuss the invoice and the 10% discount ( which is a joke based that is on the website and the charges on the invoice. I have also not received any reimbursement. read more

Our garage door had a broken spring that we discovered first thing yesterday (Monday) morning; since we park our vehicles inside our garage it was an urgent situation to the start of the work week for my son. I called the garage door company I had previously done business with and they could not come out for up to two days. On the recommendation of a family friend and reading their reviews on Yelp and Google, I reached to Garage Service Master. I called and explained my urgent request to David; he came to my house two hours later. He did a complete assessment of the door, which by the way was 32 years old. I already had in mind to replace it this year due to a group of boys from a neighborhood school kicking and damaging one of the panels last year. I agreed to the very reasonable price quote for a complete door replacement and installation. Their installer, Martin, arrived with the new door by 3:30 pm and finished by 5:30 pm. I called Garage Door Master after hitting my garage door with my car as I was backing out of the garage. In a hurry, trying to make a deadline, I ran into my garage door as it was going up. It was today, Saturday at 3:55 pm, and I wasn't sure I'd be able to get my garage door repaired this weekend, preferably today. I have a list of to do's for this holiday weekend. Frustrated, I looked to Yelp for a recommendation. The first one I found was Garage Door Service Master. I read the favorable reviews from August 2023, and decided to give them a call - they were opened and a live person answered! I was told $50 for the service call, a technician could be there within the hour. The technician arrived within 30 minutes. His name was David, and he was the person who answered the phone. It was reassuring to speak to a real person, but even more so that person was the technician who showed up to repair my garage door.(not an outsource or contract person). David gave me my 2 options; one that he could try today and if that didn't work, it would take a day or two to order the needed parts for the second option. I agreed to try the first option. Well, the first option worked. David explained the situation concisely and clearly, he worked efficiently, and I'm grateful that things were not worse, AND he repaired the garage door within 20 minutes. this included him testing the door a couple of times doing, tightening, screws, and some touchups to make sure everything was secure.
