I stopped in here a few weeks ago for a few beers. They have the typical domestic beers and some local options that are good. The service was great and the bartenders were attentive and helpful. The ambiance was pretty on par for a bar in this area serving the clientele in that part of town. Nothing spectacular just a good solid option for drinks after work. read more

This bar is hidden behind the 80 freeway, off of Giles and behind several hotels down from the Embassy Suites. It is next to a Jimmy John's and a pizza place but very inconspicuous, considering the location site. Parking is plentiful and located around the building. The door opens up to a sports lounge with tables and large TV screens. Service was decent, drinks arrived quickly and the server checked back occasionally to see if we needed anything else. The food was catered, probably from next door while our group celebrated another finish of a calendar year. There is a very good selection of tap and bottled beer and people were well-behaved and pleasant during a weeknight. Restrooms were clean and the facility was decent. Houston's is an excellent place to stop for a drink before dinner or after the movies due to its location. Wait staff is friendly and prompt in taking your order. They have an excellent selection of cocktails, craft beer, and alcohol. The only downside to Houston's is that they do not serve food, however you may bring in your own food. Other than it being a complete meat fest, this Lounge is top notch. Plenty of seating, quick staff, attentive staff, and killer Moscow Mules. Located easily by the interstate and hotels, its atmosphere is for everyone. From the TVs to the visual neatness is the bar and it's tenders. Parking? No problem! The beer selection here is always great and the bartenders are always happy to give you recommendation based off of what kinds of flavors you like. They don't serve food but they're ok with you bringing in food from other places. Aside from having cozy indoor seating they also have a great patio area that includes gas fire pits! Nice, very large and long bar area. High ceilings, rather dark. Huge selection of alcohol. I ordered a vodka martini and it was made well. The bartender was very professional at first, but she warmed up a lot by the end. Service was excellent. This place probably gets packed later, but by the time we left at 4pm, there were maybe 10 people there. Pool tables off to the side and darts, but they don't seem to be the draw here, this place is a bit more upscale. read more

Stopped by here after the fine folks at Beyond Golf mentioned Houston's massive wall-o-liquor. I was not disappointed. Sure it was Monday night and the bar was pretty empty save a few dudes watching the Packers defeat the Chiefs. Houstons is my favorite bar in town. However, I'll try to be as unbiased as possible. -They have largest liquor selection I've seen in the state and Brian makes the best hand crafted cocktails I've ever had. -The bar is very clean -The bathrooms are always immaculate. -Plenty of seating and good to bring in a large group of people -Staff is quick to serve and they all make great cocktails -Beer selection is decent, not necessarily the best if you're really interested in microbrews. However, they have a decent selection of different styles of beer. -Daily specials are after 7:00 -Keno -Great patio with a fire when it gets a bit nippy out. -This place is a bit pricey. However, you get what you pay for. I could definitely go to cheaper bars but I won't have as nice of an experience. -The bartenders are awesome but they won't put up a lot of nonsense. I love that about this bar. If you've had "enough", are acting up or are generally rude they're not going to kiss your ass. Nice after work stop-- partly be uses of it's proximity to my job, partly because of the quality drinks. I don't feel bad ordering wells here (Jim is their well bourbon) and they have a good variety of beers and specialty cocktails. If I could give zero stars, I would. I'm sort of surprised by the positive reviews; it makes me think that either the staff on the night of 8/9/2014 were new or this establishment has something against out of towners. The group I was with (about 10-15 of us) showed up around 12:30 am after having attended a wedding at the hotel across the street. The concierge at the Embassy Suites recommended Houston's for late night drinks as the hotel bar was closed, arranged some shuttles for us and we had the place mostly to ourselves. We took our places at the bar, put on a few songs, a few of us took advantage of the pool table, and generally enjoyed ourselves. The bartenders announced last call, we purchased what would be our last round of drinks and shot one last quick game of pool. This is where my issues with this place begin. As closing time approached, the bartenders again made an "announcement" that they'd be closing soon-- in other words, they yelled to those within ear shot. Naturally, there were a few who that didn't hear, but I certainly didn't think it warranted the way we were treated. To those in my group who were sitting at the bar, one bartender continued to yell that they bar would be closing in a few minutes-- as in, inches away from your patrons, with music cut off at this point, to FINISH YOUR DRINKS AND LEAVE. There may have been a please, I can't quite remember. When drinks weren't finished fast enough, both bartenders began going from person to person COUNTING DOWN 3-2-1 before simply taking the drink away. I'd like to repeat, that the staff began taking drinks-- some still half full-- out of our hands or from the bar/tables in front of us if we did not chug them fast enough. Is this even legal?? The attitude presented was really that they thought we couldn't leave fast enough, and surprisingly that they were excited about it. I get that you want to close up and go home-- but we were a respectful (maybe up until that point) group doing what people do at bars. I'd imagine they may have seen more cooperation if they'd simply made a round and reminded those of us present to please finish our drinks as they'd be locking up. In the end, the staffed huffed around us as if we hadn't just paid and tipped them for their time, grabbed our drinks and shooed us out like an impatient school teacher may do with young children. If my tips hadn't already been cashed in at the register, I would have asked for them back. Rethink your strategy in dealing with stragglers and best of luck to the business owners. The service is exceptional, their liquor selection is vast, knowledge of their drink selection is impressive and last but certainly not least the Bloody Mary's here are second to none. We were in town for my husband's business conference. The owner made a special accommodation for us so that we could relax and enjoy ourselves on a Sunday and Monday evening. The drinks were awesome and the alcohol was very generous. Staff was friendly and kept the drinks coming! I appreciate that it is a smoke free environment. Wish the Midwest would get on board with not smoking! Smoking is allowed outside on the patio which had very nice outdoor furniture and fire pits for the cooler months. The atmosphere was spot on! Great vibe! I wish I didn't live in Atlanta so I could frequent this establishment! I would have given it 8 stars if possible. Only downside is that there isn't a bar menu. The owner has a relationship with a pizza joint next door that will deliver but some awesome food pairing with the incredible bar options would make the experience even better! read more

I'm a beer drinker so I was slightly disappointed at their selection, but it was better than most bars of similar nature. Domestics and a couple craft beers on tap including Spilker Ales' Hopluia which was nice. Huge selection of alcohol here. Bottles, and bottles, and bottles. Super comfy chairs and a nice bar to sit at. Big open room with lots of tables, TVs, and a pool table and darts. It definitely feels a little more upscale and there were several people wearing suits and dresses inside. Bartender was friendly and service was good. This is a great stop if you have time before heading to an event at the Embassy Suites La Vista Conference Center. I really enjoyed the open parking lot, there was plenty of parking. When you first walk into Houston's on a bright sunny day, the dark atmosphere will catch you off guard but once your eyes start to adjust you really enjoy the calm vibe this bar gives off. We had a group of 6 that were there for a quick happy hour and really enjoyed the personal service we received from the bar tender. She was more than polite and went out of her way to make sure that we had everything we needed. Each day during happy hour there is a special going on and the day we went there was $1 off everything. Who doesn't love a good deal? I really appreciated the layout of the bar as well. Each table had lounge chairs with backs that were great for hosting a conversation and felt inviting to want to stay for a long period of time. The only downfall of Houston's is the fact that this bar only serves drinks there is no food available. There is a Jimmy Johns and a Pizza west close to the bar. Although these establishments are close, I didn't ask the policy about bringing food inside of the bar. I understand the simplicity of just having a bar that serves drinks but there are plenty of options to have just basic plates too. All in all, I would recommend Houston's and would definitely go back. read more

I noticed the reviews were a bit dated here and thought since I was just here I would perhaps give my take. I was here about a year ago, maybe a bit more, and made these observations. Nice and clean bar and stools. It is obvious the owners are not putting money back into the stools as several are falling apart and the frayed leather/vinyl will grab a shirt. The drink menu has not been updated, several of the brands are not what they carry, they are now a cheaper variety. The bartender I had was attentive and obviously had her regulars. Now, my pet peeve, I stop for a drink after work to relax, I truly dislike when the employees are out loud complaining about customers, using inappropriate language etc. I do not come in to hear that kind of thing. It was not just the one young lady but both. Regardless that they have the regulars and those folks listen to the what is obviously chronic complaining, there are other customers and you never know who is listening, perhaps a family member of the person you are bashing. Just bad form ladies. Houston's is a nice place inside, it is welcoming, but I didn't realize it was a sports bar. TV's were all set to sports. read more
