We had a nice time at Holiday lounge. We had a larger group on a Saturday evening so we sorta split up and meandered once inside. I had a whiskey and water which was fine can't really mess it up. My wife had an Expresso martini which was very Expresso forward which she enjoyed but our friend had one as well made by someone else that was a completely different shade of brown. More cream than brown which she was disappointed in. Forgot to take photos in the moment but overall the vibes were good a hodge podge of ages in there. Bartenders were nice. They do have a credit card fee so you know which wasn't mentioned on payment. But overall not a bad stop if you're in the area. Big U shaped bar then tables around the perimeter mostly. Have a dart board in one corner but a table directly in front of it which was odd. read more

In my opinion it's one of our best dive bars in Omaha. Divey in that it's definitely cool, and doesn't try to hard. You can walk in and whether you're a regular or you're new you feel pretty welcome. The bartenders are super nice, and depending on your mood will make great recommendations. The prices aren't too steep. It's a great place to meet up with a friend, or take a date (like third date at least) and have good conversation. There don't really serve food so I recommend you eat before you go. read more

Unexpected and cool bar with a legitimate retro feel. Legitimate means this place has been around since 1965 and is the real deal. They even keep matchbooks on the bar despite the fact that you can't smoke inside. The sunken bar is no joke and the bartender wasn't either. Drinks are good, the people were friendly and real. It's not a dive; it's just a neighborhood bar that hasn't changed much since the 70's. Everyone knows each other, and the bartenders do a good job but aren't there to be your best friend. Surprise was Lucky Bucket Lager on tap. I know it's common, but it's a solid beer and was nice to find here. They have free wifi too and you can have Zio's pizza delivered inside. This is a super chill local spot. Plenty of room. Free WiFi. Had all the MLB games. The owner is pretty cool. He's in there often. Unfortunately the bartenders left a bitter taste for me. One is an overweight try hard that ignores guests in hopes to get laid. Blatantly ignores people in favor of females. It's happened on a few occasions. His name is josh. Another bartender, a smaller framed blonde that has a snobby attitude. I had the same amount of drinks 2 separate nights, 2 different bartenders, with 2 very different tabs at the end. One night left with a 20 dollar tab, and another with an 80. Was much more expensive with that shitty attitude having blonde. I'd recommend big red up the street before overpaying here again. read more

My friends and I grew up in this city and will frequent bars that we love and we all agree we will NEVER go back to this bar. The female sever could not handle our large Saturday night group of eight, therefore miscounting the number of drinks we had. We were outrageously overcharged for our few of drinks per couple and we were left with a rude announcement to "never come back." This appalling farewell will ensure we will never recommend or return of a friend to this once hopeful gathering pub. People-watching is a lifelong hobby for most journalists and other ne'er-do-wells. How else does one hear about news and events first? I cannot possibly apologize for this behavior. It is positively mild-mannered in a world where emotional manipulation and other scripted outrages are popular, televised entertainments alike in dignity to such Elizabethan pastimes as baiting bears, bulls and Spaniards. Which brings us to Holiday Lounge. I made my first visits ever to Holiday Lounge for this review. I found it a welcoming place from the start.  Located just off of 78th and Dodge Street in the Midwest of Omaha, Holiday Lounge is a good locale for grown-up conversation and upscale people-watching in a mid-century cocktail lounge with a sunken bar. Touted as a Foley Family tradition since 1956, Holiday Lounge has been in the same location unchanged in any significant way since "Heartbreak Hotel" was a number one hit. I imagine astronauts enjoyed lounges like this, and it is nice to throw on a jacket to drink like a national hero. Whether you sit around that sunken bar or in a spacious booth, you will be comfortable. The neighborhood is a busy one especially around 5 p.m. The parking lot is large, well-lit and packed until nearly 7 p.m. so patience on that front is necessary since this lot seems to have been built in an age when vehicles were only fairly huge. I arrived with a friend in tow around 5:30 and maneuvered around a few other suits. Corporate types, with and without ties, mingled with a few retirees for an afterwork drink. Overheard was the customary Friday after work cacophony of men and women blowing off steam, drinking and bursting out in laughter as a coworker said something outrageous and NSFW before heading home to the fam. My expectations were reasonable. Having never been there and rarely traveling west of 72nd, I incorrectly assumed I would be viewed as an outsider, forced to work extra hard to be seen and served. Nothing could have been further from the truth or that cliché. The waitresses and bartenders were attentive, but not intrusive by any means, just polite and charming. I was as glad to tip them as anyone I've ever tipped in Omaha. But it gets so much better. Having gotten all the information I needed, I had planned to call it an early night. While clean my glasses with my tie, an older gentleman said "You're killing me" as he handed me a wet wipe for my spectacles. That was my introduction to Tom Foley, owner of the Holiday Lounge since 1986. He took the time to introduce himself to a fairly nondescript new customer in the middle of a rush. That clinched it for me. I was gobsmacked. I  guarantee Tom would have done that for anyone, but it's nice to see someone care that his lounge isn't too cool to be welcoming. There are no happy hours or advertised specials. The prices, while not dirt cheap, are well within the mid-range. Five dollars per pint of Nebraska Brewing Company Brunette is not out of line in this city. I look forward to going back soon and hope to see you there. read more

A decent spot to grab an old school mixed drink in a dark, sports-themed atmosphere. Like I totally see lonely men in their 50s gathering here to watch golf and drown their sorrows on Sundays. I dropped $21(including tip) to get my wife and me one glass of house red wine, one rum and coke (would not recommend drinking the crystal clear well rum, yuck) and one Dewar's on the rocks ($9). I even with the Holiday being a divey sort of place I expected either cheaper drinks or higher quality one for that price. Ah well. They had some Nebraska Brewing Co. on tap, which is the route I'd go next time. Not sure when that'll be though, if ever! read more

Not to split hairs, but the Holiday is not a dive bar as other reviewers may lead you to believe. Vinyl chairs stolen from a VFW in 1978 and bartenders who know how to pour an ample amount of alcohol in their drinks does not a dive bar make. If you want to grab a drink at a place where you won't find 21 year-old skanks ordering blender drinks or meatheads with too much cologne, this is the place to do that. read more

I stopped in for an early afternoon refresher after hauling some heavy boxes to the UPS store. This vibe here is totally my thing. Divey, with plenty of old school brick and wood paneling that sends me back several decades. The bartender was direct and no nonsense, but very pleasant and offered great service. I get the sense that this is the type of place where most of the patrons are regulars, who all know each other and the staff. Certainly, the three older guys sitting at the bar knew each other and the bartender. I didn't get involved in their conversation, but their friendly banter made for a nice, relaxed atmosphere. As far as the drinks themselves go, they're surprisingly pricey for a place like this. I kept it simple and light and ordered a PBR, and it was $4 for a 12 ounce bottle. That's certainly not outrageous, but it's a bit steeper than I was expecting, considering that swankier places in more expensive areas often offer them for under $3. Next time, I'll probably try a mixed drink - I've heard they're tasty and decent bang for the buck (though still not cheap) - but there definitely will be a next time. read more

Kentucky Derby on the TV, a game of cards for the old guys, friendly and attentive staff, and a local hangout! While waiting for my fiancé to get off work I was able to find this place and make myself at home. I enjoyed talking to the locals while pulling up a comfortable seat at the bar. I would return if in the area again! They put free Doritos in front of me. I've never seen that before! Nice touch! read more

Went there on Saturday, asked for a Dirty Martini. Bartender made it w/ only vodka and water. I watched him. He said he wouldn't make it w/ Gin as he would hit his head on the top shelf. This is a great place for drinks, good atmosphere and the dubious pleasure of musical whiplash from the jukebox. There's such a diverse mix of people on any given night here, that Foghat followed by The Human League followed by The Strokes followed by Morris Day and The Time... This place has been around for as long as I can remember and sometimes you have to ask yourself why. There really isn't anything particularly special about this place but it is a bar omahans have gravitated towards for many years making it a classic spot for a good time. I regularly came here in my early 20s and now that I am in my mid 30s I still find myself visiting. On a recent Saturday night, like many others, it was totally packed. Great atmosphere and good drinks. Service was good even with it being a busy night so we definitely recognized that our waitress was stretched. However at the end of the night our bill was significantly high for the amount of time and drinks we had there. When we asked the waitress for an itemized receipt to show how we had accrued such a high bill she proceeded to tell us that they did not do that and that their system was based off of what she wrote on her notepad throughout the night. She could not tell us the exact prices of our drinks and why our bill was so high. Then to top off the night, after we had left the building she proceeded to come out the door and tell us "thanks for coming but don't come back". Great customer service! read more

A classic Omaha lounge that has been around forever with classic bartenders. They're not there to make you a craft cocktail, but provide a quality stiff drink with excellent service. The Holiday's vibe is a little odd sometimes, but overall it's a really nice alternative to the noisy, hipster bars I typically visit. Their seating is really cushy and the 70s vibe makes me feel like an extra in "Boogie Nights." The downsides: a bit pricey (esp. package) and the "regulars" can seem a bit stare-y and territorial.
