    hot honey chicken sandwich

0/10 across the board. overstaffed, not busy at all yet took 30 minutes to get a server. bun on fried chicken sandwich dry, hot honey chicken tasted like it was doused in sweet and sour sauce, asked for medium cooked burger, got charred well-done burger.

After a trip to the Dinosaur museum and then a tour of the chocolate factory, our group of about 16 people had a wonderful lunch at the Public House. Mark Tarner the founder stopped by and said hello to our group. Everyone enjoyed their food selections. I loved the inventive sweet and sour tots:-) A wait was a little long because we probably overwhelmed the staff but we were all in good spirits as our soft drinks were kept full and we enjoyed our appetizers. It was only their second day of opening and they handled everything very well. My Cobb salad was especially good with great avocado and grilled chicken and wonderful greens. My wife enjoyed the hot and sweet upside down chicken sandwich (big enough for two) whole breast is my guess. Fries were yummy especially with the Red-Gold Jalapeño ketchup.

This is a great place at the park to relax and have a drink while watching your kid on the playground. The patio is very nice and they have live music.

Goat cheese fondue and buffalo wings.

The atmosphere was great, The service was terrible. Our server was almost no where to be found, the food took forever. 2 of us only ordered appetizers and drinks and other people who came after got their food way before us. The buffalo wings were terrible. The goat cheese was great.

The cheese curds were legit. I felt like I was back in Wisconsin. The burgers are great. Staff was friendly and attentive. Great location and amazing atmosphere in the park.

GREAT TURNAROUND, THIS IS THE PLACE TO BE!!!!! I am so happy we went back (after 6 months) to give it another try. You changed and figured it out PUBLIC HOUSE. Clap! Clap! Clap! Bravo! Everyone we encountered was very pleasant, tentative and appreciative. Understanding host, tentative servers and professional staff. I was impressed! The atmosphere induces conversations, random smiles and just relaxing, casual feel. People all ages were there, from baby in a stroller to gray haired couples. There were many applauds for the live band playing the favorites and engaging with the audience (not overdoing it). And the food..... the food was beyond belief. Delicious, prepared to perfection by what must be a first class chef and kitchen staff. A bit pricey but burgers are still under $20 so there is something for everyone. The food was the main reason we were upset before but everything we tasted was as good as it gets in the area. You have to try it. Looking forward to bringing friends along the next time we stop by (and it will be soon). Can't wait for the Summer to enjoy one of the best outdoor seating areas looking over the river, bridge and downtown. Whoever did it, thank you for turning around this jewel and making it a great dining option!

Our server Alison was the best! She catered to us humans and my dog! The spicy bloody Mary also treated me very well!!

Here's the thing. I really WANT to like this place. The wait staff is nice, it's got a good vibe, and is in a great location, but the food has been subpar every time we've been here. They call their burgers "Upside Down" which is just a strange marketing ploy. Their patties are incredibly thick, which throws the burger- to-bun-to-toppings ratio off, so even though my burger was cooked properly (medium), it ended up being dry. I also immediately judge a restaurant that has Kraft mac and cheese on their kids menu because it's disgusting, and how hard is it to make Mac and cheese? Come hang out on the porch and have a beer, but there are better places to get food DTSB.

Food, atmosphere and service all great. Jasmine was especially helpful. A tremendous sirloin for only $25.

I believe the workers work for tips, at least Ja'Lila does who served us. During our hour there we observed a mix of folks coming in. Some were obviously regulars chatting it up with Ja'Lila while they sipped their drink. Another couple on a road trip stopped in on their way to the east coast for some coffees and to use the WiFi. Some were in and out. Steady flow. Everyone treated with respect and dignity whether you made a donation or not. Donations are pay what you want. I'm not a coffee drinker but my sister said it's good! I got hot chocolate. The hot chocolate is homemade and I got fresh whipped cream which was also homemade. Delicious! Can you get that at Starbucks? Just asking I wouldn't know. I no longer lived in South Bend but if I did this would be my new spot. My sister does however and she's already been back before I had a chance to post my review. If you're a local and you remember the old VanBuren grocery store this is the spot! The smoothies are pretty good. I think I've had the Orange Sunrise and the Bangin' Berry. I'll probably try more, but of those two, the Orange Sunrise is better, hands down. I've never had breakfast here, but they do offer Quorn substitutes for anything that comes with chicken, so there are plenty of vegetarian options for a place with such a limited menu to start with. It's located in the Duncan Student Center, which is the building they attached to the west side of the football stadium. The cafe is near the north entrance. There's lots of seating, but some of the stools are annoying tall ones, which seem to be all the rage these days, even though they're uncomfortable. The good thing about the tall stools is that they have these special metal baskets at the bottom so that you have somewhere to put all your junk while you're eating. I can see this coming in handy when the weather's bad, which it often is in South Bend; you don't have to sit against your wet and/or cold coat.

I don't view this as an actual coffee shop but more of a quick service establishment. The pastry proportions sometimes disappoint me because they are more expensive than they should. I got their unsweetened matcha once and was terribly disappointed. I honestly couldn't taste the matcha. I think that ABP in Hesburgh library serves better coffee, and it's worth the short walk over there.

There is a rack of chips and cooler for drinks. Chicken and sausage jambalaya soup: Meh, I probably wouldn't order it again. It didn't taste very fresh nor flavorful. Chili dog with cheese: This is a Tuesday special. This was not very good, but I wasn't expecting it to be. It was edible, but I didn't particularly enjoy it. I probably wouldn't order this again. I did get vegetables (carrots and celery) as a side though, which were good. Chicken tenders: Typical chicken tenders. Three pieces, which was a reasonable size. The inside seemed more like processed meat, like the chicken nuggets you get at McDonalds, rather real chicken that was fried, as you couldn't see the individual strands of meat. Came with mac & cheese. Mac & Cheese: This came with the chicken tenders. It was surprisingly good! The cheese flavor was strong. I would have liked some Sriracha with it, but there was only Tabasco-style sauce. Cornbread: I initially thought this was okay, albeit a bit dry. My friends didn't think it was good. I tried some cornbread at another place and realized how bad the cornbread was here. It was horribly dry sand bland; it almost felt like eating soft sand. I would probably eat here again because of its close location, but I don't think it's anything special as of now.
