How could I not stop at an Andy Griffin theme cafe the Mayberry Cafe. The decor is red and white tables and chairs mostly. My service started great with being seated, menued and watered. My service was good at the start and I ordered the country fried steak, crispy hash browns with onions, sunny side eggs and sourdough toast. The plate looked good with the country fried steak was thicker and bigger than what you typically get where I live. The country fried steak had nice flavor and a crispy coating topped with creamy country gravy. The extra crispy hash brown were perfect. The eggs were perfect. The sourdough was better than average. After my server left the check I never saw her again. It was a big plate of food so I would get a box and put it in the fridge for the next morning but I sat and sat there with my server gone like the wind so I finally flag down another server and ask for a box. I was completely left in limbo and no other servers looked after me because I wasn't one of their tables. read more

We have been going to Mayberry Cafe for over 30 years. My daughter has always ordered the Beef Manhattan. It consisted of a sliced of bread a scoop of mashed potatoes on top of the bread.Tiday she was served a piece of bread. No mashed potatoes with a scoop of meat on the bread.and a portion of beef and gravy. I have been making Manhattans for years and their version today was not correct. The server was very rude when we asked about about the potatoes. She told us it would be an extra charge for the potatoes. The manager came out next and was equally as rude. This is the breakfast spot to go to! I had the veggie skillet and added sausage, with pancakes and it was SO delicious! The potatoes in the skillet are more like home fries and they're really flavorful. I ate every bite. And they know how to poach eggs which I really appreciate. How can you not love breakfast at a restaurant called Mayberry Cafe?! While on a recent trip to Elkhart, we were on the hunt for breakfast every morning and we had to give it a try! Definitely not disappointed one bit. You walk in the door and most tables were willed with what appeared to be local elders, groups of friends at every table, sharing a meal and talking about their day! Service was wonderful... coffee and water glasses were never more than half empty, if that and plates were cleared quickly as eat diner finished their meal. The menu was vast, breakfast comfort food galore! Pork chops, omelets, pancakes, chicken fried steak... the list goes on! With the size of their breakfast, two can easily split a meal or have your own and be full for hours! I would definitely go back again. The restroom was a little off in its cleanliness; however, it's worth mentioning that the building is quite old and I'm not going to dock a star for that! read more

This place is great. We had breakfast on a Saturday morning. They were extremely busy, but they were efficient and we only had to wait for about 15 minutes. The service was outstanding. Once seated our server attended to us immediately. Once we ordered the food came out very quickly. The food was very flavorful and the portions were good for the price. Our service continued to check on us often while eating. As we were waiting, I noticed a few customers who were paying at the counter leave very little or no tip. Feeling convicted to do so, we decided to leave a very generous tip to make up for the apparent lack of tips they were receiving. Once at the front register, the cashier asked if I wished to leave a tip. I told her what I wanted to leave and she said "are you serious"? After I replied yes she just seemed to get an attitude. She punched in the number into the CC machine and took my payment, no thank you no nothing. I'm not sure if she was upset because she was jealous or what the issue was, but I was pretty offended considering I was just trying to be generous to the hard working employee that served us and being aware of how restaurant workers have struggled. One of the best restaurants around. Aunt Bee is still a great cook and the staff is awesome. I wasn't going to get coffee because I only like Caramel Macchiato creamer. When I noticed they had it, I asked the guy for coffee and told him I hadn't noticed they had my creamer. He brought out the coffee and an entire bowl of the creamer I wanted. I'm tall and I thought My head was gonna hit the fan. tWater spots along ceiling, walls have stained wall paper and carpet on floors. Overall, it was a great experience. The food was really good and the wait staff was friendly and intentive. My only concern is the gentleman who seated us kept staring at my sidearm that I carry professionally and legally and gave me what seemed to me to be a dirty look and did not seem interested in addressing me as he did the people I was with. It's important to note that I do respect "no guns allowed" signs when publicly posted. However, in this instance, there were none posted. I have no issue with people being mindful if they see me carrying my sidearm. I do have an issue when I seem to be treated differently when no policy against carrying is posted or communicated. read more

Placed an order over the phone for pick up. It was a child's meal. When I arrived the woman at the front already looked like she was irritated. She asked who my order was for and I gave her my name. She proceeded by saying "do you even have a child?" I was thrown off because I had no idea I had to bring a child for proof to get the meal. I told her "not with me, at home" she responded with saying "Yeah we're not going to be doing kids meals to go anymore". Mind you I'm not even from Elkhart and I have never been there. Placed a to go order over the phone for lunch. Girl that too my order was nice as can be. Went to pick said order up and the man running register was just grumpy. Maybe it's just an off day but he was just acting bothered. Our orders were correct and delicious. My only complaint was that mad. He borderline rude with his action and words.
