Called today to inquiry about an assessment fee on a bill this HOA sent. The guy that answered the phone in the accounting dept was incredibly rude! Wow! Maybe I caught him on a really bad day but I had to just politely get off the phone with him because he was raising his voice and talking over me and not listening to a word that was being spoken. It's unfortunate to be new to this HOA and have questions you may just want to send an email instead of having to deal with an unprofessional, unpleasant human being who sounds like he is going to lose his ish any minute! I have lived at my property for almost 50 years, and Howe just does not get the job done. Maintenance is deferred, and their first response to any problem is to blame the homeowner. A disposal pipe burst recently which ran from the 3rd floor down into the storage locker area, flooding several lockers and damaging property therein. When we homeowners asked for some help, we were told that "the pipe is in your locker"...so it was not deemed to be their responsibility. This is their TYPICAL response. John David is a Rock Star! I reached out the John to request an upgrade to the landscaping between my neighbor's and my house. John placed the order with the landscaping company and continued to stay in touch until our needs were met. The landcaping team was initially non responsive but JD persevered to ensure the job was done and done well. I've been a department head for Facilities Services most of my career. I can understand why their rating on here is so low. Called in today to give some information on a newsletter that was sent out and Jackie was so rude and childish. She cuts me off the first sentence in an overpowering way and kept demanding my address first. Ok ok. Chill lady. Even when calling for customer support over the phone to places that need your social security (let alone my address) have the manners to let someone finish a sentence. Extremely rude and would never use them again. She kept making it clear she was the owner and didn't care she kept cutting me off but justified it and then hung up. read more

I own a home where Howe Management administrates the HOA. I think that Howe is a competent company and likely does a very good job with their actual management. However, as others here have mentioned in their reviews, Jackie Howe (the owner of the company, as she is lightning-quick to tell you) is an absolute nightmare to deal with. I had the unfortunate experience of calling the office on a day when friendly and helpful Susan Hsu was out sick and I had to deal with the nasty, bullying, doesn't-shut-up-and-won't-let-you-get-word-in-attitude of Jackie when I was asking my question. In fact, now that I think about it, the company has to be highly competent or else they would have lost contracts due to Jackie's horrendous behavior years ago. I leave this review for companies doing due diligence and considering Howe Mgmt in the future, so they know what they are getting into, and also as a signpost for others who have unfortunately crossed paths with Jackie Howe--no, it's not you. I recently called John David at Howe because several trees in the common area next to our Inverness home had a lot of brown leaves. The grass underneath was dry too, and it looked like there was a problem with the watering -- in the middle of a heat wave. He contacted me promptly, took the issue seriously and stayed with the problem until we were both sure that the watering was working properly. He contacted the landscaping company several times in the process. I was very impressed by his quick and effective problem solution. The trees are looking better, too. I couldn't have asked for more. :) read more

The lady that works in the office is a total B$%#% and doesn't do a damn thing other than sit on her ass and make it look like she is working. Howe Association is by far the worst HOA management company that I have ever had the misfortune of dealing with. They have no regard for the home owners or their property. Their landscaping company recently cut off half of my Loquat tree that is on my property WITHOUT any notification to me. It was not overgrown nor was it causing any issues. This is not the pruning season and cutting such big limes may allow fungi and other diseases to get in and kill the whole tree. When I contacted HOA office and spoke with John, he was courteous and apologized and told me that they should not have cut my tree since its on my property and was not causing an issue. I than called back with a request and spoke with Jakie (the owner) to ask that the landscaping company apply a sealant to the cut areas to prevent any diseases from infecting the tree. Not only was she adamant that the landscaping company did the right thing, she said she does not have to notify me!! I was simply shrugged off and my concerns disregarded in a very nonchalant manner. Look at all other reviews and how everyone is complaining about this disrespectful woman. The only good reviews are about John, he should leave this horrible company and go work for a decent place! BTW, half of the homes in this community have trees that are way overgrown and unkempt. Mine was trimmed by my own landscaper and in no way was overgrown since its a fruit bearing tree and has to be maintained. Now that they have cut my tree by mistake, they are trying to find any excuse to shrug off responsibility! If any property is looking for a management company, they better look elsewhere unless they want very unhappy homeowners and a mismanaged community. read more

If there was a way to give zero stars I would. I live in an association managed by Jackie Howe. Yes she saves money but she doesn't have to be rude and ridiculous about things. I am not sure specifically what they do except adding more paperwork and random burden to my day to day. I love Jackie! I lived in an association managed by Jackie Howe for many years. She saved us thousands yearly by her sound judgement and oversight. To a reasonable person, it is clear that Jackie has excellent judgement in discerning which issues should involve the HOA, which should not, and how best to act in the best interest of the community. To those who are angry that she did not indulge their demands against her time or their neighbors' money, it is easy to point to her frankness and call her rude. Doing so will disguise their personal agenda and disappointment at her response to it. She is fair and she is frank. She calls it like she sees it. Like it or not, she is often right. Logic-minded people usually appreciate her. Overly needy or demanding people often hate her. Regardless, she protects the association, saves money, and GETS THINGS DONE. read more

I moved into a neighborhood where Howe Association Management services our HOA needs about a year ago and they have been great! I have unfortunately had to contact them several times about problems I found with the house after purchasing it, but they have always been prompt to respond to me and provided me with options and solutions quickly. Although I have worked with a few people there, John David has been the one I interact with the most and each time he has handled my problem or repair right away. Compared to the service I have seen through other management companies, Howe has really impressed me. Even the people they hire to complete jobs seem to be of a higher caliber than I have seen in the past. The tree in front of our home had exposed roots and they were starting to decay and become brittle. I was concerned about home/property damage if the tree fell down. After receiving a letter from our HOA that our power will be shut off for maintenance on high voltage switchgear for 2 days, of course I was very concerned. On the letter stated "If any questions please call our office" So I called, the property manager was very unsympathetic, unstirred and detached. I do know it is beyond their control but for heaven sakes, there is no need to be so rude. They can just assure the residents with some kind of reassurance instead of saying "Did you read the Letter"? Where is the professionalism here. Absolute Nightmare dealing with Diane at Beach Front Condotels at Old Orchard Beach Maine. She is just a horrible person who is impossible to deal with. Couldn't enter my correct email address to get a background check done and just blows me off and says she will rent to someone else. I have absolutely perfect credit although if you can't enter in some simple info of course it won't work. Probably for the best though, as it would of been 7 months dealing with her. I spoke with John David recently about the condition of our Home Owners Association's tennis courts and the effect of the ashes from the recent wildfires in Northern California and Oregon. Zero Stars for sure. Jackie Howe is rude and yells at her paying clients. She'll yell at me but be nice as pie to my husband. If I knew a way to get her off the Management of our Home Owners Association, I'd be first in line. Owning a home in California is one - a feat in itself at this point. We purchased our first home 3 years ago and I called Howe Management as soon as the ink dried on our paperwork because we had an issue with our walk way. Someone had put an asphalt patch on our walkway. My father was gravely ill and was in a wheel chair. It was difficult for me to push him over the horrible asphalt patch. She yelled at me on the phone and told me I put the patch in. And then said, we would have never authorized that - it must have been the previous owner. I was floored. I am in Client Services and I couldn't believe she yelled at me the way she did. I was crushed. I just bought my first home and now I felt trapped into this management company. After months of battling with Jackie and the company, the patch was fixed. But please know I had to battle this for many months, yelling and screaming matches, you name it - questioning, everything - came from Jackie. I cried a lot throughout this time. I thought what a huge mistake to buy this home - we asked people about the HOA and never received this feedback. Last year I called in about my HOA monthly bill, being screwed up. They had a new "owner" on our addressed property, which scared me. After the melt down on homes, I've heard some scary things that HOAs do to owners. So I was proactive in calling to fix the issue. She told me I didn't know how to read an invoice. My mouth dropped - I invoice clients DAILY and I work in accounting. Every time I call I'm ready for a fight, or to hang up the phone to call my husband - to fight the battle for me. And that is not me. I'm a strong communicator. She cuts me off, talks over me and is beyond rude. To top it off - they send notices to us about people's gardening is out of the HOA's design. But they haven't put in new ground coverings for all the time I've been there. So if things die off - need to be removed - nothing gets replaced. So our properties look sparse for sure. She has turned me against HOAs. I'll never live in another location with an HOA because of the experiences with her and the company. read more

I have been a property owner that was under Howe management and honest-to-god, this is one of the worst organization I have ever come across. The property manager is downright rude and thinks she has everyone under her control. There is absolutely no oversight on this organization and is run like a Nazi Camp. At one point, the manager even berated little kids playing outside the homes, which tell me that their bar is pretty low. Its always their way or the highway. In the continuing saga of just how rude, unprofessional and idiotic HAM can be, we received our monthly letter and it describes how even with the drought, we are responsible for keeping our yards to community standards, AND that it is highly encouraged to keep watering our law so that it costs us less to replace/repair once (and I say IF) the drought ends. Are you $%^&g Kidding!!!! Trying to intimidate us with keeping to community standards when the governor of the state has specifically stated that HOA standards no longer apply in a water emergency! Jackie F-OFF! Watering a lawn so that there is no run-off is impossible, therefore HAM believes that a $500 fine (per occurrence) is my responsibility as a homeowner over a ZERO cost to just letting the grass die and save the hundreds of gallons per month. If I pop my home on the market, the brown grass isn't going to decrease my home value. The fact that I will have to disclose that the association manager is a detriment to the future owner's enjoyment of the house is. read more

I agree with the other reviews that say that one star is too much for this company. They are rude and unresponsive, especially Jackie Howe. They show no caring or concern for the residents living on properties they manage. Broken walkway lights, important for safety, do not get fixed or replaced. Landscaping does not get replaced or upgraded. They were unresponsive when my car was broken in to. I am so thankful that I will never have to deal with them again! I totallay agree! Jackie Howe is Rude and she has a Power Trip. I have lived here for 10 years and was late once on my association dues and they had the nerve to bill me $10.00 late fee and gave me a very difficult time when I called them about it. She tried to tell me what color I could paint my house and when I appealed to the Board Of Directors she sent me a letter saying that she changed her mind! I triped and fell on the property and she accused me of lying. The gates around here have been broken for as long as I have lived here and I have given up tyring to do something about it. Every year they increase our dues and put the money in reserves. The pool is in need of repair and the bathrooms are gross! Howe Association Management is usseless and Jackie Howe is RUDE. I am even considering going to the courts to file a lawsuit. I am not sure if this is a family owned business or what, but one thing I sure know is that Jackie Howe is not afraid to get fired. I had an issue with damage to my unit from negligence on the part of the management here. Not only did she not consider my concerns, but she blamed me instead for the problems caused by their poor management. It was a 1 ton. My father does live in the association and my son does not let our dogs out off leash. There are however many young boys that run around the complex with a littlw\e brown poodle and my neighbor who straight up lets her black and white boston terrier out the door and does not even know where she is. Am grateful for a prompt and favorable response to my inquiry about what I felt was an undeserved late payment fee. My inquiry was answered only a few minutes after it was sent. I am sure that the office is frequently peppered with all manner of requests, some reasonable and some not. For someone in a position to resolve problems, she lacks even the most basic problem solving skills. If you hired this woman to manage your association, it would be in your best interest to hire ANY OTHER company. Your tenants will be a lot happier.
