A different combo indeed! This was our second wine tasting room on our Treasure Island tasting journey. Out of all the wineries that we tasted at on the island, this was by bar the most casual. Might have been just a little too casual for yours truly, but someone else might really enjoy this aspect. From the outside, this place looks like a mini warehouse. Normally when I see places like this, the outside is pretty deceiving. This one wasn't. Like, it wasn't at all! It was super tiny inside with one couch, a couple chairs and a a little more than a handful of seats at the actual tasting bar. The tasting room is located inside of an old war submarine, and many of its' idealistic features are still very much in tact. It serves as a mini museum in a way too. Sotomarino specializes in Italian Varietals that are made here in California. I'm not sure how Italy's wine climate differs from California, but this was the first time that I've tasted Italian wine that was grown in California. The verdict? I liked some of the wines, but definitely didn't fall in love with any of them. A tasting consists of 5 wines at a cost of $15. This is pretty reasonable, but after tasting at the Winery SF, we felt a little jipped here. I enjoyed tasting some Italian varietals that I had never had before (Lagrein, Dolcetto, Sopraffino). However, the wines weren't really my cup of tea and the lady who was pouring the wine was super skimpy with the pours. She seemed like she was new, but still. I just felt like I didn't get my money's worth of tastings here. Also, their wines are pretty expensive. It would be a different matter if I was actually in Italy and tasting Italian wine. I just thought that they were way too pricey for the quality and style of wines that they were offering. All in all, it was a pretty average experience for me. It wasn't my cup of tea, but I think the casual atmosphere might work from others.

This was the last tasting room on our Treasure Island Winery tour, and it was also the most fun! The tasting room is quite small compared to a few of the others, but it's also extremely intimate. It has a barn-like feel with a horseshoe style tasting bar and great views of the Bay Bridge on their outside patio. They also share a bocce ball court with another tasting room that's right next door! Dave was our wine pourer and was excellent! He had so much energy and he made us fee really comfortable during our time there. He even gave us a few extra splashes of the wines that we really liked. Speaking of their wine, I have to say that I'm totally impressed! We actually enjoyed every wine that we tasted during or visit. It's $15 for a taste of 5 wines from their current tasting menu. I really liked their smooth Viognier, but their Cab Franc and Zinfandel were my absolute faves! Their bottles are reasonably priced and they also sell wine by the glass! They were bumpin' all of the fun old school hits and the vibe was super casual compared to all of the other tasting rooms that we visited on the island. We loved our tasting experience here and will be coming back again really soon! Would highly recommend for their tasty wines and wonderful atmosphere!

For one thing, you'll have a glorious view of the Bay Bridge in the forefront and the San Francisco Bay practically beneath your feet. It's pretty mesmerizing I'll tell ya! Vie Winery is a excellent tasting room to stop at during your journey. The indoor space is setup like that of a warehouse with a rustic and cozy feel. It's pretty spacious inside and also quite lively compared to the other tasting rooms on the Island. Vie shares an outdoor space with Sol Rouge Winery right next door. Their patio has a bocce ball court and a few chairs to lay out on white you're sipping on your wine. It's the perfect hangout spot on a warm summer day. Vie's tasting menu consists of 5 tastes of their current selection for $15. They specialize mainly in reds and red blends which is what they're known for. They did have one white wine on the menu which was a Roussane that I really didn't care for. It tasted like a beer which I found extremely odd. However, I was really impressed with their red blends. Their bottle prices are actually pretty reasonable, and if you don't want to purchase a bottle, you can always buy wine by the glass. Service from ". " was excellent! She was very knowledgeable about the wines and seemed passionate in explaining where they came from. If you're looking to wine taste on Treasure Island, be sure to hit up Vie Winery for a wonderful experience.

We cruised around & followed the breadcrumb trail of signs pointing to VIE. When in Rome, do as the Romans do! We pulled up right out front where a worker saw us come out of our car. She made eye contact with us, then immediately turned around & stormed off. Confused, we decided to walk further past some tables of people clearly enjoying themselves & we get up to her host table where she promptly told us "we're closed, this is a private party." No problem at all, just would've been nice to have a heads up before venturing all the way in. Disappointing since after we got back, friends & family had actually shared surprising good feedback from this place when they were there years ago.

It's a sophisticated, intimate pocket of wine country tucked away in the lobby of one of the city's most historic hotels. Mr. Chiang was a wonderful and most gracious host. He shared the story of the "judgement of Paris", which is what had me drawn to the tasting room. As a somm, I am fully aware of the story, but I don't recall ever having the wine before. And as a big fan of Bourgogne, I took advantage of the opportunity to try the famous chardonnay. Simply put, it's reminiscent of a Grand Crus Bourgogne... something from Montrachet but with a little more sunshine. No wonder the judges picked them! And the rest of their wines were no less impressive. When you swirl a glass of their Cabernet, you can taste that distinct Calistoga "dust" and the structure that comes from their specific hillside vineyards. I've always considered graphite and cassis the hallmark of a good cab, and both are present in their 2013 cab. Still youthful, vibrant, and very balanced with the perfect tanning. The Riesling deserves a shout out because it's beautiful. If you are a fan of GG Mosel Riesling, then this wine will give you a run for your money. Lastly, their 2023 Zinfandel is brilliant and youthful, but can definitely use another 5-8 years to add more layers and complexity. But if you like fresh red fruits with a hint of darker berries mixed with the same volcanic dust notes as the Cab, this would be a great choice! It's a testament to their winemaking that the sense of place travels so well in the bottle. And when the opportunity arises, I would like to be able to visit the chateau and breathe in the terroir...
