Howie's family used to be the place to go. It has been taken over by new owner and things just are not the same. The food is not that great. The service is terrible. They do not treat their employees right they only care about themselves I would suggest going somewhere else to eat. I would not support this kind of people. read more

What to say about Howie's, well for starters the other recent reviews ranged from "fantastic" to "food poisoning" so saying we were trepidatious was putting it mildly. Still what is life without a little colonic dare devilry? Upon arrival you will meet your first challenge and that is to not turn and flee from the intrinsic terror the exterior of the restaurant will undoubtedly fill you with. You see it's in a strip mall that looks like it was built in the 60's and died in the 80's. Howie's is at the very end of the mall that is comprised of no less than 6 smaller spots and a huge grocery store spot. All sit vacant as if to say "it's too late for us, but you still have time....run!" If you have girded your loins sufficiently and enter you will find yourself in a quaint southern diner. You will not find however a sign or a host instructing you what to do. 40 pairs of tired patron eyes attached to various shades of camouflage and plaid will track you as you awkwardly walk to the back register and attempt to catch a waitress' eye. Once you do she will tell you to sit anywhere open. Now you may ask what are the people like? Hmm well the same way you can tell you're in the ghetto by how many gun stores, pawn shops and liquor stores, you can tell you're in the bad part of Florida by how many Trump and God banners and I lost count of those on the way. Aside from the difference in opinions of theological and political leanings they seemed okay. The food? Damned good. I had a country fried steak with grits and scrambled eggs and white toast. It was tasty and by it I mean all of it. The food was served on plates that reminded me of the china used in the county jail that time I got arrested in a cemetery when I was 20. Hard plastic and in a dull tan that matched the fading light in the patron's eyes. My wife was less than impressed with her omelette but it looked good. No gastrointestinal distress to report, but I'd skip loud conversations about upcoming abortions or gender reassignment surgeries. read more

Mom and pop restaurant with a large local following. Stopped here today after dropping by the nearby Webster Flea Market. Ordered corn beef hash, eggs, toast, and sausage links, with coffee. Waitress promptly served coffee, took my order, and the food arrived about 6-7 minutes later. I couldn't eat the sausage (it tasted funny, as if it was past the due date), the corn beef hash was burnt, but the eggs were decent. I drank all my coffee and had to wait for the waitress to eventually bring me some back (10-15 minutes with nothing to drink). Later in the day, I started feeling bad, as if something I ate wasn't right. Now, I can say with all certainty, that if I'm ever in Bushnell, I would never eat here again. Food other than potato salad was great. Service is fantastic and they disinfect tables after each customer. Hamburger, Cuban sandwich and fries were so good. Desert was also fantastic. Chocolate peanut butter pie and Apple pie made up for just Ok potato salad. It wasn't bad, just not as good as every else. I highly recommend eating here. read more

Went to this restaurant for my 2nd visit today for lunch with family. What a disappointment!!!! Ordered the 6oz. Sirloin and eggs, Server asked how I wanted my steak cooked, which was a waste of time to tell her "rare" as the steak I received was a 2 ounce, 1/8" thick steak (so the 6oz must've been pounded/tenderized to death) and cooked thoroughly. I was so hungry by the time we got our food, I just ate what I was given. What a waste of $8.99!!! RIPOFF!!!! We found this diner after visiting the Florida National Cemetery and are we glad we did. The other Bushnell local spot was over booked and howies came up on an app that I had. Great food and really reasonable prices with super service are the highlights of this joint. Biscuits and gravy with a side of eggs for less than $4.50 , you cannot go wrong. Half pound burger for only $5.55, with fires. We will be back for more. read more

My husband and I usually have breakfast at Moe's in Lake Panasoffkee, but they are closed for vacation, so we decided to try Howies. So being our first time maybe we just ordered something that isn't the best thing to order. The coffee was good, the waitress was very sweet, but the biscuits and gravy we not very good. We were visiting the National Cemetery and needed something to eat. We found this place and very glad we did. We ordered all different items from breakfast to burgers and sandwiches. EVERYTHING was fresh and well prepared and actually better than in the big city. Good quality food with pleasant servers made this a nice visit and unexpected as we pulled up in the middle of nowhere. The burgers were charbroiled and had awesome flavor, but then again, everything we had was awesome. The chicken tenders were the best we've ever had, the light coating/breading/batter was amazing. Howie's will become a regular stop for us when visiting in the future. We are all looking forward to going back. read more

The service was excellent and the food was good. I can only rate this as 3 stars because the mashed potatoes were real but we're not at all creamy. Additionally, the grilled onions on my hamburger steak were barely cooked. The gravy tasted like it came out of a can. The one thing that really disappointed both of us is that they don't have real butter. They don't have lemons for the water only packets of lemon juice, this is Florida. Husband and Ilike the food and service. Only very annoying problem with this place is the outside bench where very often the smokers congregate and the second hand smoke is overwhelming at the door. We have pulled in the parking lot to go in and eat and saw all the smokers by the door and pulled right back out,and went elsewhere.
