Ended up here because I really wanted dueling pianos. It was a good time, although louder than it needed to be. I was a bit disappointed because most of the song choices were not my kind of music (I was looking for a more lounge-y show tune vibe. They don't have a kitchen but you can bring in your own food and there is a decent pizza place next door. I am always a bit suspect of places that serve large buckets of alcohol, but that's one of their things. I think I'll look for a smaller venue in the future but it was ok. read more

Over the past several months my friends and I have been frequenting Howl Indy. A majority of us are musicians and can honestly say everyone does amazing work in the band. The servers have always been kind and prompt with orders and you don't usually have to wait at the bar for more than a few minutes. While no food is served, we love having been able to bring in our own (from chips to birthday cakes) because it also saves us a little money. The vibes are also immaculate and have not had many negative interactions with other patrons. I am sure if we did, the security that walks around would be quick to catch on. In September 2021, I celebrated my three-month double transplant anniversary. I decided to celebrate this milestone with friends and family, after winning a free party from Howl at the Moon. My party of over 15 guest, had a great time! The staff was amazing as always. It was so wonderful being able to see friends and family, enjoy live music and great drinks. One of my all time favorites here - the jello shot shooters they graciously shoot in your mouth :) that is always super fun! They have also stopped serving food inside, but no worries, there are some nearby places you can bring inside the bar. I will always Keep, Howl as one of my top bars in Indy to visit. If you're looking for a good time with good drinks, upbeat music, and fun dancing, this is your spot. Reservations: No reservations needed, but recommend getting there earlier in the night to avoid having to wait in line to get in. We got there at 9:00PM and basically walked right in. They check your ID at the door and there's a $10 cover charge. I believe if you dress up according to the theme night, you get in for free - but don't quite me on that one. Parking: There's street parking and paid lots nearby; however, if you're planning to drink and don't have a DD with you - Uber/Lyft or walking are great options! Food: I don't think food is offered here, at least not in the evening. I didn't see anybody with food nor did I see any on the menu. Drinks: They have a variety of drinks available and they have a menu of specialty cocktails that can be ordered in 12 oz. or 32 oz. The bar was pretty fast with their service and I didn't have to wait a long time to get served. They also have a drink that comes in a bucket with multiple straws, which we saw a lot of groups ordered. And there was an employee dressed as a cowboy going around with Jell-O shots in syringes. They were topped with whipped cream and were fun to watch get taken. I ordered the Howlin' Mule and enjoyed that. Vibe: The staff from Check-in to the bar to the restroom (there are bathroom attendants so bring small bills) to the musicians we're great! The musicians were having so much fun and that energy flowed into the room. People were on the dance floor having a great time; people were brought up on stage; and there were people who stayed seated or hung back by the bar enjoying themselves as well. There is seating available but you'll have to come earlier to secure a table. The musicians take requests and their range is incredible! I had been to a Howl at the Moon type place in Broadripple years ago and it was great - packed wall to wall, but pianos only playing and it was a great vibe. Fast forward to the downtown location: it was so different. It wasn't packed, yet a lot of people congregated around the bar. Managed to get a high top and waiter came pretty quick. After ordering, it took about 15 minutes to get the drinks - the drink I ordered was too sugary sweet and light on the alcohol, but not unexpected. There weren't just pianos playing, but also drums and a guitar at different points and some of the waitstaff got up on stage or on the pianos and were dancing and singing. Not sure if that was to encourage more crowd participation, but it struck me as odd and chaotic. The experience was a bit "cheaper" feeling than what I remember of the other location years ago. I love singing along with the pianos, but the suggestive dancing of college girls plus the addition of other instruments with a multitude of different people performing wasn't my jam. read more

We came here for their New Years Eve event. It was a ticketed event with different tiers. We bought the base tier which include admission, open bar, and a champagne toast at midnight. I have to say, we had a great time here. The dueling pianos were playing great music. Since the event was ticketed, it wasn't overly packed on the small dance floor they have. One let down was the drink policy. It was an open bar, but you can only get one drink per person at a time. They only had like 3 bartenders at the bar so it took forever to get drinks. After midnight, it was no longer open bar and you had to pay for drinks. It was just kind of frustrating to pay for an open bar and then be limited on drinks and have long wait times. We felt like we couldn't make the most of our tickets. Besides that, we had a really fun time! I would definitely consider going here again for an event. read more

Let me preface this with saying I am approaching 30--an old crone comparatively to the younger folks. We had a fun girls night here nevertheless! On a Friday night, the place was already bumping at 9:30pm. We managed to find a table, but it was "cozy". Pros: Super talented musicians playing non-stop bops! If you want to sing along and have a good time, you'll not be disappointed. The drinks (if you can get them--read on) are also pretty cheap. If you are an extrovert, you'll have a grand ol' time. Cons: You are going to be waiting on your drinks for a LONG long while. Even when you are at the counter--it's going to be a hot minute. There are also lots of "kiddos" here who are a bit wild with their Jello Shots and trying to jump up on the stage. I will say, some of these children were kind enough to buy us a jello shot lol! My friends and I will never be coming back here. The bartenders let someone else close our tab without checking that it was us. And when we questioned why they did that, the excuse was "it's loud in here". Then when we asked a manager about it, he pretty much blew us off and didn't acknowledge that his bartenders screwed up. Disappointed in what it took to get in here. Me and 3 girlfriends uber-ed over 30+ mins to get here to meet our other friend who was already inside. Two men were out front, there was no line, and they were checking all our ID's. I know this doesn't matter, but we are all over 30 - but the bouncer's said we all needed 2 forms of ID. One friend only brought her ID with her, and not another form of ID, and they were saying they wouldn't let us in. Clearly we weren't going to leave our friend. Another friend asked what would it take to get us in, and they said if we gave them a good tip, so she gave them $20, and they let us go. Sucks. What can I say here? In short, no food, so I was suspicious as I like very much to eat. My group was invited to come to a 'free' party, no cover, complimentary buffet, first drink on the house, free bucket of booze if more than 15 guests show up... well you just can't turn that down. I took a star off for the quality of the buffet... well... let's not even talk about that... I should have brought a pizza or something. The drinks are super sweet for the most part, the mixed drinks that is. After a few you won't care anymore though. Service is somewhat sketchy, guess it largely depends who you get as a server. On the upside: It is worth it. The show is awesome and my guess is that no two will ever be alike. I had no idea what to expect with dueling pianos. In short there are two pianos, that sometimes play together, sometimes take turns. Various vocals, but also drums, electric guitars, saxophones, and whatever else you can think off. They take requests, especially if you throw in a few bucks. So you basically have a cover band on hand to cover any and all of your tastes. Heck we went from 'Sweet Caroline' to 'Baby got back' to something from Buckcherry... That's the fun of it... you never know what's coming your way. Feel free to dance with it, or just sing along. People watching is great here, especially as the night progresses. This is a very fun atmosphere and I would recommend it to any age group, of legal drinking age. The band killed it. They are excellent at what they do. The place was packed and it was a chill night. I couldn't hear which songs they were playing, but I knew it was awesome. Energizing and fun place to hang out. We showed up a few minutes after 8pm and they still allowed us to come in without cover. SCORE! They had $1 beers (Miller or Coors). I went with the root beer float. So good! It's on the shot menu. Can't go wrong with rumchata and Not Your Fathers Root Beer. The music and singing ...great. NYE Bash: 3 of us 40 somethings got rail seating. Though a table would have been more comfortable, it wouldn't have been worth the price. The buffet was tasty. Salad, pretzel rolls with pimento cheese butter or whipped butter, spinach dip with pita bread triangles, mashed potatoes, green beans, Seafood cake, chicken and barbecue brisket. I found it odd that they did not have a dessert table. The open bar had a lot of restrictions. They weren't too eager to serve anything that wasn't on the open bar even if you were willing to pay for it. My friends and I came here on a Thursday night. We were looking for bars that were open late in Indy and this one had the longest line outside of it. It turns out Thursday nights are free admission for college students which explains why so many people were there. I wish I knew about the free admission yelp check in offer when we went! What I did notice though is that they had a Groupon available, so we were able to get a gift card for a reduced amount to buy more drinks! Always a perk! The bartenders and staff were very friendly and the entertainment was decent. It was nice that this bar was actually busy as well and that they stay open late (2 am?) I tend to only visit places like this on a special occasion like bachelorette parties or birthdays but tonight after the Pacers game, I thought I'd pop in with friends to check it out. The last time I visited, I was not impressed. The stage area was cluttered, messy and the bar was overall kind of dirty. But I was quite impressed with the updates. I liked the fun string lights over the bar, the less cluttered stage, and the variety of music played (from classic to today's rap). The service was pretty good for the time of night. The only thing that wasn't ideal was the entry way area was backed up with people waiting to visit the optional table where you can sign up to win a party. It was cold and the exterior door was propped open bc people were stuck in line after paying cover. So, bypass that if you don't want to signup for the chance to win a party. The well drinks are only $4 and a better value than the mixed drinks which I found to be a little weak and quite sugary, but if that's more your jam - definitely try a howl punch or fruit roll up. I've been to Howl a few times for a drink special and live music and found it OK, but not worth the cover. Most recently, I went for Friday Happy Hour because my friend won a table. Everyone who used her name got free cover and a drink ticket. Once we had 15 people, we also got a free bucket of booze (which was dangerously delicious) Suddenly, it was worth the visit! They have buffet-style appetizers during Happy Hour, but they were just store-bought tortilla chips, queso and chicken or meat (unclear what type) sloppy joe sliders. Eat ahead of time. Drinks are cheap if you stick to the specials/well. If you don't, they are pretty expensive. Other reviewers are right that it can take a long time to get a drink at the bar here, but at least early on in Happy Hour, our waitress was very attentive. Overall, definitely visit if you can get a free entry coupon or know someone who won a party or table. It's really fun in a big group! read more

I love Howl At The Moon. I'm what you would call a "regular". . So Why do I keep going back? Well I don't drink (which saves me money), I love the staff and the musicians. They will play anything. Last week I asked one of them to play "Wishing Tree" from an episode of South Park and he played it. Before going to Howl there are several things to Know. 1. Cover is going to run you 10 bucks on the weekend (But if you go during the week there's no cover on Tuesday, $3 on Wednesday and $5 on Thursday. OR FREE with College ID, Thursdays Only though) 2. They ask for TWO forms of ID 3. When requesting music make sure to put a little bit of green on it. The higher the number the faster your song gets played 4. To save money on beer, buy the bucket. They have specials on thursdays ($1 Buds, $2 312's) So that's the best time to buy. Also they have a deal where it's like 17 for a bucket of domestic during the weekend (But you might want to check) 5. When it comes to parking, You can either park in the mall parking, the lot on south street or bite the bullet and pay for parking right across from conseco on Pennsylvania. its only 5 bucks during NON event days (which is every weekend save for 5 or 6) Songs you SHOULD request because they are epic Devil Went Down To Georgia Ants Marching Hey Jude Fat Bottom Girls I'm unsure how much buckets of booze run you, but they're always doing deals there!
