This is a cool barbershop, location and look wise since I've never gotten a haircut here, that turns into a bar/ club at nights in the weekends. Walked inside to see where the music was coming from and as you walk around the corner it opens up into a huge bar with a DJ and full cocktail bar. I'm very excited to have this bar in my 'hood. I had heard fun things about it from some friends, and we just happened to hear about a free Jameson event this past Sunday night so a few of us went. You can't lose on free Jameson drinks, but the atmosphere of this place is really cool. First off - the space is way bigger than I thought. The front room is a barbershop/school. You walk through to the back and there's the bar area. It's massive. There's a lot of seating along the bar, and even though I didn't venture past my seat I could see couch seating around the stage area where a fun cover band was playing. They have a vapor shot machine that was next to me so for $5 I had to try it. Vodka vaporized and inhaled through a straw. Pretty cool. Didn't really feel the 10 minute buzz the bartenders talked about, but they may have been because of the Jameson. I definitely look forward to checking this place out, and seeing their prohibition style cocktail menu. read more

I loooove speakeasies and this one is stellar. There is a legit barbershop in the front, and the bouncer will check your ID and lead you through to the back of the barbershop and down the corridor to the bar. The bartender we had was very friendly! I got the Great Gatsby, and it was a super refreshing drink. I liked the juicy flavors of it. There was no live music when we went, but there's a nice stage, so I'll have to go back sometime when they have a band playing. read more

Every time I come to deep ellum with people that have never been, I have to take them here. It's the coolest concept. I was a little sad last night that they didn't have the cool "enter through the barbershop" thing going on. They had us entering through a side hallway.. it took away from their whole theme and was disappointing to the first-timers. The craft cocktails are expensive but worth it. So much creativity goes on coming up with those drinks.. it's worth eventually trying every one of the originals.. and seasonal when you get the chance! The live music vibe in here is always a win. This little gem is a best kept secret in the bar scene at Deep Ellum. It's a speak easy with an actual barber shop in the front of it. Great atmosphere and location! Every time I come here I get their best drink, the "mint chocolate chip flip". Imagine melted mint chocolate chip ice cream mixed with some whiskey, like an adult milk shake of sorts. The Can't Beet Me drink was so good and refreshing. It even came with the edible orchid. I also loved the Great Gatbsy drink (gin based). My least favorite was the Fitz. Although it says there's strawberry in it, the actual drink tastes nothing like strawberry. It reminded me of herbal tea. We came around 8pm so we were able to snag the seats at the bar. This is a really cool spot! Hidden speakeasy and it had such a great space once you enter. It's dark but comfortable and plenty of room. When I went, there was only 2 couples in the whole place which was great. The bartender, I don't know her name, was so friendly and accommodating. I got the 'Damnit Becky' granted I didn't drink much of it because I am not a huge alcohol fan but I just had to try something here! It was good, a little too much alcohol for my taste but for most people... this would be a hit! Went in for beard trim and shave. Shave was nice that included hot towel and skin moisturizer. Beard trim was the problem. I had recently grown a beard and asked for a trim and shaping. She mentioned she would "taper it". I thought she would know how best to "taper it" given she works in a hip place in Deep Ellum. When I returned home and looked at my beard that I had worked so hard to grow, I was hugely disappointed. I have a round face and her "tapering" did not complement my face at all. She's the expert and should have known what to do to make me look great. I googled beard styles and confirmed that a more square style complements my face shape better. Why didn't she know that??? Speakeasy bar/mixology with great bands along Main St. in Deep Ellum. It was elbow to elbow when we got there around 10:30p but soon subsided after a few song played by the band. Crowd is diverse, drinks are great and the bartenders/mixologist are working their arse off. Would definitely come back to check out other bands there. read more

What an awesome hidden (literally!) gem of Deep Ellum. We were celebrating my husbands birthday and he wanted a chill place with cool music and cocktails. look no further this is the place for it! As the name implies - this is a barbershop - where people seem to enjoy themselves with great trims, conversation, and beer - and in the back of the barbershop there is a whole bar and music scene! We loved their drinks and the bands were great too. The room is small but cozy, and you can still have decent conversations. It is a bar and there isn't a lot of room to sit, but the bartenders are great, drinks are strong, and reasonably priced. They have a vape machine where you can vape alcohol?! we didn't use it but saw people who were - looked interesting. Some of our friends actually went to the actual barbershop, the bar is actually across from the Pecan Lodge and there is a door in the back with mustache on it and you just follow that in. Speakeasy behind a barbershop is a great concept for Deep Ellum. Cannot speak to the quality of their haircuts but can and will rave about their Old Fashion. Instantly one of my favorites in Dallas. Another craft cocktail bar in Dallas on par with Amoury, Parliment & Bolsa. Craftsmanship and attention to detail is shown on all their drink I've had. They have live music playing most nights but not a set schedule. From the bands I've heard you can tell they like to book good local acts. Jazz band was great. Two entrance, the main being on Main St but you can also access it through the back on Elm St in the parking lot next to Glazed Donuts. Overall 5 stars for their concept and execution on their design for this great Deep Ellum gem. read more

Deep Ellum overall is a quirky artsy area of Dallas, youthful fun, with the robots here and there. The theme and decor or this bar behind a BARber shop was a neat theme. This place was a shit show, upon arrival a person puked almost at entrance door. Perhaps being from Vegas I wasn't phased as that shit happens. The drinks were great, I had a moscow mule and several shots of whiskey tequlla, etc they have this vapor shot which was a MUST TRY in my curious intrigued mind, after that inhale I was done, i danced to the live bands and even ended up forgetting my wallet the night before i flew back home, they were quick to respond and professional about the process of returning my wallet. read more

But we tried different things on the menu which I enjoyed all of mine, my brother in law didn't like one of his but really enjoyed the rest. The place was empty but were talking to the bartender. He explained about music and stuff. My brother in law said he would come back here. The bartender bought us a pony ride (8oz miller high life) and we raced the ponies lol We left thinking that bartender was really cool... until we saw him on the news 3 days later. I heard about this place that was behind the barber shop in Deep Ellum and had to go. Their drinks were so good. My friend got a daiquiri and I got champagne and it was perfect. They had a singer Scotty Isaacs that was playing that night and he was amazing. At first it was a little quiet and cozy then it turned into a packed house of very diverse people and it was such a great place. The bartender that helped us was so busy but very sweet and remembered me when I came up to the bar. I do not remember her name but I remember that she was beautiful and wore her hair natural. I heard rumors of a "speakeasy" in town, and reminiscing on my NY days, I immediately wanted to check it out. NY is full of cute speakeasy spots with good drinks and great ambiance, especially for someone over the loud bar scene. Upon arriving at where this "secret" speakeasy was supposed to be, a gentleman was standing at the entrance to the barbershop and loudly announced that there was a bar in the back if we wanted to come in --- -1 point. I mean, I guess it is Dallas, and the secret speakeasy stuff is new. The bar in the back was quite cute. There were a few sofas, tables and chairs to hang out. The drinks were pricy, but in speakeasy fashion - very swanky -- +1. This easily could have made it into the rotation of regular hangout spots, until... 10 minutes later, the band came on. I totally dig the secret prohibition thing but adding in country folk, prohibition era music.... may be taking it too far. It was comically entertaining at first, but due to the volume of the band and the type of music, I quickly gathered my things to leave. The experience of walking apprehensively through a barbershop and through a door that looks like a wall was unlike anything I've ever seen in a bar scene. My friends and I just stood at the bar asking each other, "what just happened?" It was so amusing. I ordered a Great Gatsby and we were lucky enough to find a seat on one of the few couches since we were there before the live band even started playing. We hung around for awhile and the live band finally got going, playing various genres like pop jazz, swing, and oldies classics. We hung around for about 40 minutes before deciding to leave and explore the rest of Deep Ellum. 5 stars for the wonderful experience, delicious and cute gin drinks, chill staff, and relaxing atmosphere. I can imagine coming back for happy hour someday. read more

Having been to speakeasys only in NYC, High & Tight had a lot to live up to. It was pretty cool - an actual functioning barbershop (as opposed to the "pawn shops" or "antique shops" they usually are), and through the wall, you walk down a corridor to a large open space that boasts giant metal firedoors, a long bar, couches, and a small stage for live music. The cocktail menus are pretty cool - they look like old newspapers. I had two drinks - the Zozzle, which is refreshing, and a Manhattan, which is a staple. Both were very good, and I was able to try the Gatsby (fruity and girly, but good) and one with berries that was also quite fruity. The staff is pretty cool, and willing to chat with you if the bar isn't too busy. One of the bartenders can do Cocktail-esque tricks with the mixers and bottles, so that's always a bit of entertainment. They don't have food, so be sure to eat either before or after, but the drinks and atmosphere are great, and it's a welcome addition to Deep Ellum. read more

Since we were in the area on a Sunday and I needed a haircut, I decided to give this place a shot. I was also interested in checking out their speak easy bar when they opened that evening. We had to make an appointment for 3 hours later to get my haircut since they were pretty booked for the day already. That was not a problem: we just enjoyed some other nearby bars as I waited. And then I finally got my haircut. In fairness, I do have curly hair which is not everyone's forte. But I was able to show a photo of me with the haircut I wanted to give the barber a since of what I was looking for. She did not do a great job at all. The haircut was 2-stars. One side was shorter than the other, since she cut against the curls the hair was going in all sorts of directions, and overall it did not look good. I was so embarrassed I wore a hat as much as I could. We checked out their bar once they opened. It was right after they opened, but the bartender was not sure how to make about half the drinks. I guess he was new, and he was constantly texting some of the other bartenders trying to get directions on how to make the drinks. Since they were slow to respond, he was not able to make several of the drinks we ordered. That was disappointing. But the drinks we had were good, and the area was very neat. I'd love to check this out on a Friday or Saturday night. read more

Went here for a shave bc it had 4 starts. Mistake. The place is pretty shoddy. The barbers I interacted with had a gangster/thug demeanor - they didn't smile, they kind of strutted over to me and we're like, "yo, whachya want?" while scowling. Would have been somewhat redeemable if they had given me a good shave, but they didn't. My barber tore up my face, used a dull straight edge, and wayyy over used the gillette beforehand, which left my face raw. As a side note, I noticed later on most of the positive reviews here are for the night club in the back. The barbershop has mostly negative reviews. read more

Heard about the vape drinks. Waited in line behind a doorman that did not like his job very much. Finally made it inside, asked a manager about the vape drinks and she said "yes we have them". Asked how it worked and how we get them, she responded "dude google it" and walked off. I could be in the most run down bar ever but if the customer service is on point, it's the best bar in the world to me. Advice- customer service is king! I'm getting married in a few days and wanted to come in at just the right time. I try to go as local as possible (blame it on my Austin roots) and so, wanted to get it done here and not at Floyds. I called and encountered the worst phone interaction I've ever encountered. The customer service was lacking and I was only asking if reservations are recommended and what time slots were available. Mentioned I was getting married and wanted to look fresh so as to maybe warm the guy up and, nope. Silence. Maybe these guys have a great following enough to where they don't want the additional business or maybe that's the vibe they want to portray. I've always had a great experience in the past, however.... the bartender that looks like Hipster Kim Jung Il was incredibly rude to myself and several of the people on my party last night, her excuse being "there's 200 people here." Right. Ok. Well, myself being a former bartender as were some of my friends, we know that shouldn't make a difference in your hospitality, just your hustle. While patiently waiting against the bar, she saw me and put her hand in my face without saying a word to talk to the person who was two people down. They were there first. I get it. I wasn't trying to interject. I waited patiently and requested my beer. But who puts their hand in your face? Seriously. What is this, 1999? I wanted a beer, not a hand to talk to. Love this place.
