I ordered delivery last week since we're still in the midst of this pandemic. I had been craving chicken fried rice. The food was delivered quickly and still hot. The chicken fried rice was filled to the top of the takeout box, which was plenty for one. I preserved its freshness in a Tupperware container. The fried rice has egg and green onion. I wish they added peas and carrots. It's salted enough and has great flavor that you don't really need the extra soy sauce packets. I mean, you can, if you want. I've noticed this in other Chinese restaurants that the chicken is cut skinny in long pieces. It almost looks like a noodle. I wish they were cubed or something smaller to make it bite-sized. They give you plenty of chicken pieces. It's one of the best chicken fried rice dishes I've tasted in a while. You get a huge serving for just $9.25. The sweet and sour chicken had a crispy batter breading, but there was barely any chicken. I'm glad there was a lot of chicken in the fried rice to compensate. The bell pepper they use to garnish overpowers the flavor of the fried chicken if it touched it. The sweet & sour sauce on the side was good. I'd like to try some of their other dishes. Stopped in for lunch and ordered the Mongolian beef special but asked if it could be fixed without it being spicy. This is routinely done elsewhere and so I was content when my waitress assured me "no spice" was an option. Unfortunately, her assurances didn't match the food. The beef sauce had a good bit of heat and it was redolent with peppers. The waitress apologized profusely when she saw my red face glittering with perspiration and quickly offered to make it right. The next dish was just that. Unfortunately, though resolved I withheld stars due to the shouting that occurred not once, not twice but three times between her and the cook. Loud enough to be heard through the doors. He was quite irritated and I felt for her. While most of it was not in my native tongue, there was enough English used to ascertain the issue was my request. I was more than a little hesitant to finish my meal. read more

Pretty awful experience in addition to ignoring my order request, being dishonest about what's even on their menu, and really just having awful food. "Huai" is accurate; it means "bad" in Chinese. The food had no spice in it at all despite them all being spicy dishes (mapo tofu, shiju niu, fu qi fei pian), and me asking for it to be made extra spicy, none of it was even edible. Also the mapo tofu tasted like sweet and sour soup, god knows why. Sounds like they discontinued their "spicy sauce" and sichuan menu entirely, and didn't want to be honest to their few customers who actually want it. So the first time I tried to order takeout, they told me they ran out of the "spicy sauce" they need to make spicy dishes, and said they would call me so they could do the order on another day, and deliver it. They never called, which honestly isn't a big deal, still fine, and I appreciate them not just selling me some crap that's missing ingredients... Which they later did, hence this review. More recently I actually ordered from them, and when I arrived at the pickup time, they said they hadn't even started cooking it. No call or anything, I only found out when I got there. They asked me to wait 30 minutes for them to cook it; obviously I couldn't do that, so I asked them to have it ready another hour and a half later. The food was delicious! We started with the eggdrop soup and steamed chicken dumplings. For our main courses we got the orange chicken and eggplant hot pot from the Chinese menu. I was unaware that the eggplant hot pot on the Chinese menu had pork (I'm allergic) so after finding little bits of meat I asked what kind and once they told me it was pork , I informed them that I'm allergic to pork and they quickly replaced it with another without the pork! Great food, great service! If you have food allergies I suggest you inform them so they can help accommodate you and inform you about ingredients in their dishes. read more

This place was very good when it first opened probably about 2 plus years ago. Yesterday I ordered the crispy fish filet in house special sauce and got fried fish filet with sweet and sour sauce. I should have checked my order before I left but I didn't. Also the egg drop soup and sweet and sour soup has a very different taste to it than before. The menu has also changed over the years so that tells me that they have loss there main Chef bc the main Chinese dishes are not there anymore as well as a whole deep fried fish in an amazing sauce over the top isn't on the menu anymore. We tried a couple of items from the 'Chinese Dishes' section of the menu. +1 for having such a section, along with chinese names for the dishes! Szechuan Mapo Tofu 3/5 - comes with the tongue-numbing szechuan peppercorn. It's spicy, but flavor could be better. Boiled fish fillets 4/5 - comes with boneless fish fillets and chinese cabbage. It's spicy but does not have the szechuan peppercorn. Pretty ok, but I've had better. Szechuan Kung Pao Diced Chicken 4/5 - Not sure if this is authentic. Chicken is cut into small chunks and fried - was rather dry but still quite tasty! Stir-fried string bean 3/5 - It's ok, but far from the best we've had. read more

Served raw chicken! I got the chicken wings and, though large drums, they weren't cooked through. If it were connected through, it would have been great. But raw? Fail! I called them back to fix the problem and they said they would replace and give me a refund on it, which is great customer service, thus, the 3 star; however, others may think that 3 is still too high... read more

I really hate giving bad reviews, but feel people need to know when something isn't up to par and the rating is flat out off. Someone below said there may have been a management change and if that's the case that would explain it. Also, someone said the Pho was to die for; this place doesn't have Pho so I think they reviewed the wrong place (probably meant for the Vietnamese place next door). We ordered take out and like we always do get a variety of stuff to really try out a place. We got three meals and made them "family meals" (which doesn't make the size bigger; you get 2 cheese filled wontons, soup and fried rice for $3.00). The selections were, Mango beef, Shredded pork, and cashew chicken. The soups were one of each, wonton, egg drop, and hot and sour. We got fried rice on all three. Here we go: Good: Egg rolls were good size and good flavor, although wife said they reminded her of ones you can buy at HEB and just heat up so there's that. Wonton soup was the best of the soups. Meh but not bad: Cheese wontons. Not crab, but most of the time there really isn't any crab in "crab wontons" anyways. They are ok and a decent addition to the meal. Portion size. We all felt the portions for the food were small. Not tiny, but not the usual enough to share when you get take out. Hot and sour soup was ok, not great, not spicy, just meh. The mango beef was interesting and could be a very good dish, but.... Bad: The spice/salt level. Everything, with the possible exception of the wontons, were LOADED with sodium, and probably MSG. Also, for a Sichuan place everything was completely devoid of spice except for Salt. Two of the tree meals were labeled hot and spicy and these wouldn't be spicy to people in Canada. The egg drop was very salty and the worst of the soups. The shredded pork had zero flavor. Wife said, "The bamboo shoots have more flavor than the pork." That's a bad thing. The fried rice. This isn't your normal fried rice. It is rice fried on a flat top with a little egg in it. If you are expecting onions, scallions, peas, carrots, etc. in it you will be disappointed. The ugly: The cashew chicken. My son wasn't fond of it and when I tried it I noticed it had a day old fish smell. I don't know if they cooked in old oil that they used to make some fish dishes or what, but it wasn't pleasant. All in all the food wasn't terrible. It was disappointing and had multiple fundamental issues that makes me think we didn't just hit it on a bad day. Those fundamental issues and the fact that you have Sichuan for your name of your restaurant and you serve flavorless bland food keeps it from 2 stars. There are other, better options on the same street in my opinion. I probably wont give them another try. read more

The shrimp roll they gave me was raw. I called to get a refund but they offered to make me a new one but I was already back home before I discovered it was raw and I was not about to go back for just that. I had the Vietnamese noodles which was too salty and greasy. I wouldn't recommend. read more

We where looking to try out another new business but it wasn't open. So we choose to give it a try. Jackie, our waitress was sweet and very attentive. She gave recommendations, and gave us time to look over the menu. We started with fried cheese wontons and wonton soup. The fried cheese wonton was great. The wonton soup was a bit bland but still good. The little "crispys"fried strips were a great compliment to the soup. We sampled a bevy of dishes. Shrimp fried rice, pork lo mein kung pao triple delight (shrimp,chicken, beef) and honey crispy shrimp. Each dish was season to perfection and just plain doggone good. We, will go back. There has been an owner or manager or cook change since the last review. The last 3 times I ordered the cumin beef it was bland and flavorless. The chicken lo mein does not taste like it used to. I have tried several Chinese places in Spring area since moving here 3 years ago. This has to be the absolute best by far. Every entree comes with the option of upgrading to a family dinner to include soup, egg roll, 2 crab rangoon for only $3. I had the egg drop and although it was a little bland it was not bad. The crab and roll were cooked perfectly crispy and both were delicious. I ordered the standard spice level Dan Dan noodles and they were also amazing. My Dad ordered the Kung pao beef and fried rice. The good: We had a great carry out a few weeks ago. Everything was fresh, crisp and flavorful. The restaurant is sparkling clean and everyone working there was quite friendly. The bad: Just had the worst Dan Dan noodles I've ever had. It was a a huge mound of mediocre noodles with maybe 1/4 cup of pork. Also a few pieces of lettuce. Order for pick up last night. Been waiting to check them out since it's close to home and just open. Was trying to find a menu online and couldn't so yesterday when I got home from a longggggg day at work-- there it was hanging on my door like s sign from above. Okay not that serious but... We ordered: Vegetable egg foo young- this is my typical go to dish most the time. I'm not typically a fan of the meats at some Chinese restaurants so I played it safe. I MUST say it was the best I've had! I really really really enjoy they do not put it in the sauce so I can control how much I want to put on it. Only caution is they put a doley at the bottom... Didn't notice that till the fiancé went to go eat the bottom one LOL. But it's okay that was my fault for not looking as well as not wanting to plate my food but I was just to tired. The sauce on the side was super flavorful and didn't turn into complete jello the next day like I'm use to seeing which excited me even more! Mongolian beef extra spicy- Once again the flavor was amazing! Actual jalapeños spiced it up and none of that heaven grease tasting goo a lot of places put the beef in. The onions had great color on them Veggie fried rice- was good nothing to run out and get like the two main dishes above. But I will still order it again because the veggies have a little crunch which I love! They originally forgot it in our order so we did have to go back for it, which was not a big deal since we ordered way to much food so it was out lunch today. Fried cheese wantons- These were okay too. I wish they had some type of chive or something in them. But they are exactly as they say lol. All in all, happy the food was flavorful and not coated in that weird goo stuff most places load their food in. Excited to try some more dishes from here! Ok let me start off with a warning. When this place has the spicy symbol next to an entree they aren't messing around. Don't get me wrong I like spicy food but the general tsos and Mongolian beef were very spicy also the size of the meals made them extremely pricy. We just moved here so I guess we will keep looking for a good Chinese take out place. This chinese restaurant is actually pretty good. The atmosphere is homey, service is friendly and the food is passable for sure. I came in with a small group and they were offering free soft drinks all day for the holidays. We ordered the hunan beef, Mongolian beef (extra spicy), beef with broccoli, chicken with eggplant and seafood tofu soup. Yes, I know, an overload of beef dishes, but they all pretty much got eaten. The spiciest dish was the hunan beef actually, not the Mongolian beef, and was my overall favorite. The Mongolian beef and chicken were also good. I didnt see hardly any seafood in the soup, so that wasn't a popular dish at our table. The beef and broccoli looks nearly identical to the hunan beef, only a different flavor sauce is used. I'm not sure I will be back anytime soon, since I mainly came here because very few other places were open at the time and I don't live in the area. I am sooooo relieved I FINALLY found an awesome Chinese restaurant! There has been a lot if trial and error for me in regards to searching for a "go-to" Chinese restaurant. This restaurant has traditional American- Chinese dishes, but the SEASONING of the food is what sets them apart from other restaurants. We have been ordering from here for almost 2 years. The food we picked up today is barely edible. The fried rice is just white rice they put soy sauce on, no veggies or egg. My husband always orders the house Thai noodles, which isn't on the menu, but was recommended by the wait staff several months ago, they are unrecognizable. It used to have a spicy peanut sauce, today's version has a red hot sauce and is super dry. I'm not sure what happened to the food, this used to be our favorite chinese restaurant. I think today will be the last time we go here. Update: My husband took our food back and they refunded our lunch. They did do the right thing. Probably the most authentic Chinese food in the State. Truly a gem of a restaurant. My wife and I drive more than 30 minutes from further North in order to enjoy 998, passing other Asian restaurants all along the way. We were there for lunch yesterday. My wife can't get away for ordering the Sliced Beef with Chile Oil which is her absolute favorite. I wanted to try their lunch menu so order a pretty standard General Tsao's chicken, expecting a pretty generic Chinese restaurant meal. I got to say I was blown away by the flavor and quality of the dish. "So THIS is what it's supposed to taste like!", I thought. I'm ruined for other Chinese food now when I can't get down to 998! We ordered a number of dishes here to try different things; portion sizes trended large and there was plenty of leftovers to take home. Reheated leftovers tasted great the next day. The restaurant was clean and our service was good, no issues with either. We ordered: TR13 Stir-Fried String Bean, TR14 Szechuan Mapo Tofu, TR20 Stir-Fried Free Range Chicken, TR40 Dan Dan Noodle Szechuan Style, Lo Mein with Beef, and Vegetarian Spring Roll appetizer. The string beans and both noodle dishes were A+. The Dan Dan noodles were the best noodle dish I've had at an Asian restaurant. The mapo tofu was good, but I've had better, this was a bit more toward tasting like hot and sour soup than I've had in the past. The stir-fried chicken had great flavor but was difficult to eat because of many small bone shards from the preparation. Vegetarian spring rolls were lackluster. Firs timer here. This is almost 9 miles from home, and not on my way home from work either. About a 16 mile trip here, then home. My wife was looking for somewhere different than the usual. The ratings are what made it stand out. The restaurant is clean, it is a nice setup. The takeaway counter is weirdly tall though, makes it awkward when ordering. I ordered Singapore rice noodle dish, and they have this meat "family dinner" option for only $3 to add soup, and either egg roll, cheese wonton, or fried rice. I was told that fried rice wasn't an option with the noodles...for whatever reason. It says that is an option on the menu and it doesn't show any sort of disclaimer or exception list. I just moved on and chose something else. I added another dish, and asked for a small fried rice, to which I was quickly told that they don't have "small, only regular size". Another item that is clearly listed on the menu, I pushed that one and showed the host, and it was added. As I was waiting, someone came and asked me what I was waiting for, and what my order was. So far, the service itself isn't winning any points. Now, the food. It's actually pretty good. The rice is definitely a little greasier than most places, like a few others stated. We were looking for some authentic traditional Sichuan cuisine and glad we can here to try it out. We ordered the dry pepper fried chicken cubes, boiled spicy fish, and eggplant and pork with garlic. Every dish was tasty and authentic, with plenty of spiciness and mala to numb the tongue. The portions were very generous and the owner was nice enough to top off my remaining rice so I can enjoy the rest of the meal at home. The menu has an American-Chinese section where you'll find orange chicken and the like, but the traditional Chinese section of the menu is where the magic is. read more

The General Tso's chicken was, by far, the best I have ever had! Our entire family enjoyed that one, and it has just the right amount of kick. I wish I could rate it 6 stars. We also had the sweet and sour chicken, which was average, egg rolls, which everyone gave 4 stars, and the Mongolian Triple Delight which was superb, 5 stars! The portion sizes were all very good, the wait staff was friendly, and very responsive. Overall, the 4.5 star rating for this restaurant is spot on! If we are in the area again, this will DEFINITELY be a place we return to. read more

I am very picky about Chinese food because I grew up with it. After moving to north side of Houston, we have been searching good Chinese restaurant for 3 years. Now I can say the search is over. Finally there is a good one worth going. The first time I went to 998 was in early 2016, about 1 month after the grand opening. What a surprise!! Food was absolutely delicious, and it's very comparable or even better than one of the most popular Chinese Sichuan restaurants in China Town. Portion is generous too. Most of the time they would have free oranges after meal. My kid loves it. We go to this place at least once a month. Food quality has been VERY stable for the past year, it's always tasty. The restaurant is still very clean too, which shows the owner really cares. There are multiple large round tables to accommodate large groups. I have recommended this place to my friends and colleagues, and so far they all love it (including my Chinese colleague from Sichua!!) Highly recommended if you like spicy food. read more
