I don't expect anything fancy when it comes to laundromats, and this place is just that. And until hell freezes over or my landlord finally fixes my dryer, Hub is where I'll be washing my digs. There are plenty of machines, I've never run into problems with that. I like that there are several different "levels" of washers depending on what you need and they all have clearly marked instructions -- good for people like me who are very new to washing clothes outside the home. It's pretty clean too, but could probably stand a facelift. There's an arcade game and a TV which are great when people are waiting with kids. There's also a row of chairs where you can usually find me lost in a book until spin cycle. The only negative I have about this place is the owner. I've had zero personal interaction with her, but because I actually sit and wait for my laundry instead of coming and going it allows for some observation time. Incident One: The first time I ever came here I saw the owner get in an argument with a customer over a quarter. Yes, that's right. 25 whole cents. The woman had asked for change for a dollar and only gotten 75 cents back. There was no delay, no slight of hand. She looked at the 75 cents she'd just been given and promptly told the owner she was a quarter short, holding out the evidence for the owner to see. The owner blew up, saying it was impossible she'd made a mistake. This went on for several minutes until the owner finally realized how ridiculous she was being and gave the woman her quarter. Awesome. Incident number two: A lot of Boston laundry services offer pick-up/ drop-off washing services. So you bring your laundry in, plunk it down, and don't have to worry about a thing. I'll just say that it miiiiiight not be in your best interest to try this at Hub. I witnessed the same, delightful owner laundering a man's large batch of laundry he'd dropped off. There were easily enough clothes for 2 - 3 loads. What did she do? She piled, shoved, and CRAMMED all those clothes into a single washer. I mean, I'm no laundry expert, but when you have to use a broom handle to get it all in (I kid you not), perhaps the investment of another $2.50 for a second machine might be worth the while. Moral of the story? Wash your own clothes, bring your own change, and you'll leave happy and clean. read more

Been coming here periodically for over a year to use the laundromat and for dry cleaning. Last week four tops and a pair of pants I had dry cleaned came back reeking of cigarettes. I brought then back and they re- cleaned all the items for no additional charge, but they came back still with the strong cigarette smell. I thought initially it had been an issue with someone driving the truck, since I know they do the actual dry cleaning offsite, but on my most recent visit the shop actually smelt like someone had been smoking in there. I won't be coming here any more- dry cleaned clothing should smell fresh and clean! read more

It's a laundromat. Yes, some of the machines are out of order, but on a Saturday morning, it's pretty dead. I had a couple of loads of laundry to do, and several machines were ready and waiting for me. Bring your own quarters and detergent. They sell soap, softener and bleach if you need it and have a change machine, but it seems easier and cheaper to bring these things. The wash, dry, fold service has a 24 hour turn around time, but they recently increased the price to $1.20/lb. Also, don't send your favorite clothes to them. Shirts will shrink and jeans will fade due to their heavy duty drying. You'll also lose a sock or two and gain some clothes that aren't yours, which could be a win or gross, depending on what it is and how much of a germ-o-phobe you are. read more

I just moved to the neighborhood and dropped off drycleaning here. Then I went to pick it up but forgot that my boyfriend had the slip. The sour-faced woman there refused to give me my clothes. I was ready to pay for them, and you would think a photo ID and a detailed identification of the clothes would be enough. Good thing we didn't lose the slip or they might hold our clothes hostage forever. I would have been fine with it if she was apologetic but said that was the policy. But she rudely said "I don't know you. Fourth time I see you, then I can help you" and turned her back. Well, there won't be a next time. read more

It looks rather run down and dirty, but I see the staff cleaning up in between drycleaning customers and loads of laundry. It's just old and in need of a facelift. It's not as sparkly clean or big as Dependable Cleaners, and it actually costs more per load. But you can use coins, not those cards at other places that always seem to give me trouble. They always have change at the counter, so there's no haggling with the machine and having it spit back your currency. And it's never so crowded that you can't get a machine. Plus, I can walk there, drop in my laundry, and go back to my apartment for 20 minutes. Sheer convenience keeps me coming back. read more

This is a very average dry cleaning place. They've got coin-op washers and dryers right when you enter, and a small little counter on the left that handles the dry cleaning side of things. They sell soaps and other goods, too. Nothing unexpected, until you try to pay, and they tell you that they don't accept credit cards. This normally wouldn't be a problem, except that it's $12 to clean and steam a coat. I confirm the year. It's 2008, no doubt. I remind myself that I'm in Boston. And not just Boston, but Dorchester. I've been coming here for about 5 years and never considered it an especially well run business but it was close to my house and in line with my commute home. Over the course of the last five years they have lost six different dress shirts. I would return with a slip for pickup and they would give me some of the shirts and tell me the rest were going to take more time. It would become clear within a week of so that I wouldn't be getting them back. I've spoken with both the owner and her daughter who is usually working the counter- the last time this happened I became justifiably upset and asked how she planned to compensate me- she offered me my current order on the house ($18 so a complete rip off but I said okay and let it go). My most recent trip there I dropped off four shirts and was told to come back in three days - no problem. I return three days later at approximately 8:30 (closing time is 9:00) and they are closed. I was frustrated since I needed the shirt the next day and therefore returned at 8am promptly the next morning only to be told "not ready- come back later". Furious by this point I returned that night to a different worker telling me it still wasn't ready and to come back. Once I have (hopefully) collected my belongings I will never return to this place again. The staff are rude and dishonest and refuse to accept any responsibility whatsoever. read more

The pros: there are lots of machines and you can usually find one available and for dry cleaning, especially when you bring in quite a few items, the price isn't so bad. The cons: it always takes at least three days to get my clothes back, you shouldn't expect any level of friendly customer service, BRING CASH or pony up the ATM fee at a nearby convenient store. read more

We have been coming here for months since it's close to the apartment. We just got six dress work shirts back, and they small so strongly like smoke we won't be back. We were okay with the other things, but you can't give clothing back that smells like cigarette smoke. Unacceptable. read more

I've make an effort to support local family owned businesses. This place is accommodating you your needs & has friendly neighborhood service. And they are always open!! I would recommend better maintenance of the machines since they are often out of service. read more
