This place was just meh. My mushroom and artichoke sandwich had no artichoke, so there was that. I was in the mood for something lighter and more veggie forward, so it ticked those boxes fairly well. But it was sort of like going to Subway and just getting the toppings on a sub (which I've done before, and it serves its purpose just fine.) My friend got the same sandwich later in the day and hers had artichoke, so go figure. Service was adequate, and the outdoor seating on the small patio was pleasant enough, with views of colorful, local passersby on West High Street. Big portions of comforting food, served very unassuming, with a general lack of seasoning. We enjoyed the pork tacos, though we wished there was some heat, and the Shepards Pie, while served extremely hot and fresh, desperately needed some salt. That said, if we lived in town, the Governors' Pub would be a go-to. This is a great pub in the heart of Bellefonte for food and drinks. There's a nice patio area as well, which is fun on a nice day out. To start off, I ordered the Spinach Flatbread ($9.99), which was so creamy and cheesy. If you like spinach artichoke dips, this one is all that on some flatbread. I also liked the addition of the balsamic drizzle for a sweet and tangy flavor. For my main dish, I got the Barber Burger ($15.99) with fries. The burger was good, but the roll was a bit too heavy. Of course the fries were a great choice with lots of flavoring. To end the meal, we opted for the Bread Pudding ($7.50), which was so warm and gooey --felt like home. We booked a 1pm lunch yesterday for 7 at Governor's Pub in Bellefonte. It was a PSU graduation celebration and they didn't disappoint. Our table was ready and our service was excellent. From drinks to sandwiches everything was timed perfectly and very hot. I had a Reuben and we also had Cesar salad, chili and more. Cuban cigars for an appetizer were very good. Can't understand how this place only has an aggregate score in the 3's. It's consistently good, if not overwhelmingly exquisite. A menu with something for everyone. It's always clean. Food was delicious made from scratch items. Fries were fresh cut! Good array of choices of sandwiches, salads, and entrees. Server was cheerful and very helpful! We Just moved to Bellefonte a few months back. We are trying out our new town's restaurants. And Governors Pub was great! We went here for date night. We got The Cigar rolls, Barber burger, and Pulled pork dip. Service was great. Atmosphere was great. The Cigar rolls were a tasty appetizer with a soy sauce dip. Definitely recommend. Burger is a 1/2 lb. And comes with fries. I liked the Barber burger. Only thing I didn't care for would be the fries. The fries had a generous amount of dried Rosemary on them. I think maybe a light dusting of it is good. There was a lot. That is my only complaint. Then the pulled pork dip sandwich was good but probably would try something different next time. Was in Bellefonte and saw the pub and decided to try it out. I got the fish dinner it had two nice sized pieces of beer battered fish and really good French fries and coleslaw. The fish tasted really good but had a a little too much batter and the coleslaw was ok fries were very good. My wife has allergies and can not have dairy or gluten and they were very accommodating. This place was fantastic. We ordered take out and it was so good. The crab stuffed pretzels were first. Huge lumps of crab inside a nice soft pretzel is everything you'd dream it to be. Also had the fried cheese curds with honey mustard and they were pretty good. Standard fare cheese sticks but I've never had them with honey mustard so it was a nice twist. Husband had the Buffalo chicken sandwich with fries. He loved the sandwich and blue cheese that came on it and the fries were some of the best in town. Very well seasoned and cooked. I had the fish tacos and rice. They were good but the tacos don't travel well. There's lots of juice in the tacos so they were soggy at the bottom when I ate them but still good. The Governor's Pub appears simple and unassuming on High street. The simplicity continues inside and the staff are pleasant and not overbearing. The menu is pub food with some interesting twists. So, as we were happy we came to governors pub and enjoy a delicious meal together. My husband ordered firehouse chili. I ordered Cobb salad. I am not very fond of chili. It is, in fact, an american creation. However, the chili was in one word: "spectacular". My salad was, on the other hand, fresh. I ordered with Italian dressing. The dressing was really good. Needless to highlight the fresh flavor that is usually absent in dressings. We ordered a really good cocktail based watermelon. If you like bubble gum cocktails taste, this is your one. Coming back! New to the area and gave this place a shot. The location is cool right downtown, we enjoyed that. Overall the place was mediocre. The food wasn't bad, but nothing to write home about. Found it was a little on the bland side, but maybe that's just what we ordered. The waitress we had was nice but really slow. I think if she was better I would have given this place 4 stars. One other pet peeve is their beer was served in 12 ounce mugs. I like pints of beer, especially at a "pub." The prices reflected 16oz but they were only 12oz. We were pleasantly greeted and quickly seated by Angelina. Our drink orders were taken quickly and the specials and menu items were described to us adequately. While my salad did not ever arrive, and my steak was a little more well done than I had requested, the food was delicious. After several minutes, Angelina did come to us to explain to us that it was the steak taking so long. However a medium rare steak does not take that long. The food was delicious despite forgotten or over-cooked. It was adequate and decent amounts. I wasn't even able to eat it all because I was stuffed and took it home. I would would recommend it, but it's a very casual place, not very dressy place as I had imagined. Parking is decent but I can't imagine decent parking when it's busy there because it's all Street and metered parking. there are no signs to explain when the metered parking is on the weekends or weekdays what time it is some of the parking meters didn't work at all. We went to the Governors pub on Friday just a little after 8pm. The hosts told us they got "slammed" tonight and thus they were not seating anyone else for the rest of the night. I get that, if they are busy and can not handle the load that is OK. We simply went somewhere else. Less than 20 minutes later our friends show up and got seated and served in a timely fashion. I don't mind a business turning me away for a valid reason, but don't lie to me and tell me you not serving anyone for the rest of night and then proceed to serve others later on. I can understand a restaurant having bad night and maybe food is not up to standard or the service is slow. I can not accept being lied to. read more
