I used to live in the area when this was Brody's diner. We stopped here when we were visiting some friends. Let me say, both of my husband's and my breakfasts were so delicious. July 2023. Roadtripping through. When I saw it was all day breakfast, I said yes. I love breakfast. I don't know what the other low reviews were about. Staffing has been hard for any establishment these last few years. This place was packed when we arrived at the back end of lunch rush. 3 servers. People rotated in as others were leaving. The interior design was local art put up for sale. Lots of country motif. Different themed wreaths and unique things. I saw something different on the menu. I asked the waitress what "scrapple" is. She tried to describe it with a look on her face that had me smiling. Then she asked the cook as she walked by. She said, "If you haven't had it, don't order it. You won't like it!" We all had a good laugh with that. I googled it. Being from the Midwest, I had to know. "It is traditionally a mush of pork scraps and trimmings combined with cornmeal and wheat flour, often buckwheat flour and spices. The mush is formed into a semi-solid congealed loaf, and slices of the scrapple are then pan-fried before serving. Scraps of meat left over from butchering, not used or sold elsewhere, were made into scrapple to avoid waste. Scrapple is primarily eaten in the southern Mid-Atlantic region of the United States. " I took the cooks word and passed on it. I got a delightful breakfast, and hubby got the meatball sub, which he enjoyed greatly. The waitress was great. The food came out hot. They were busy, so it took a bit, but that was expected. We ate our fill. I also was super curious about the homemade Whoopie Pies that we had to get one to go. It was awesome, too. Make the stop. I had eggs, sausage, hashbrowns, and toast. The eggs were cooked perfectly but the sausages tasted like it came out out of a warming bin. The hash brown were frozen patties like you get at McDonald's. Finally, you only had two choices for toast, white or wheat. read more

Fantastic place!!!! Cozy inviting atmosphere, great food and the best people! I sat at counter for awhile both times I was there. Waitresses super accommodating and this place obviously delivers consistently b/c lots of regulars stop in and are treated like family. The food is fresh and a great value for the money. Don't even pull in. I went in as my son had travel baseball nearby. I had expected to order eggs and bacon. However the waitress said they had a chefs special of crap stuffed flounder. I I figured that sounded nice. What showed up was a 2" x 3" piece of gray matter. It was so over cooked I had to saw a piece to eat it. The stuffing was a gray mush that had no crab or shrimp flavor. The vegetables were brown and dingy. As I drove away I saw the back kitchen door and it looked so gross I regretted ever stepping foot In the establishment. read more

Great burgers and fries ...and onion rings! It's hard to find onion rings to suite me. These are large thick rings in smooth batter. Just the right amount of crispy on the outside and slightly sweet. This is a family owned local restaurant that is the main stay of Centre Hall located on Rt 45 before the intersection with Rt 144. That Corner has a Sheetz on one corner, a Snappys across the street, a bank and the VFW building occupying all four corners. The Earlystown Diner serves home made food in good size portions at fair prices. No one walks out of there hungry. I love to go there for breakfast and get their South Western Omelette with home fries, and English muffin and coffee on Sunday. They have daily specials to keep things interesting. I also like their hot roast beef sandwich special they run on a regular basis. Get there early before its sold out! They have a large local following but everyone is welcome. They have a good sized free parking lot, and offer their great food to go too! read more

This is the perfect don't judge a book by its cover example. From the outside this restaurant looks like a trailer and isn't inviting. Meanwhile, a walk through the door brings fun, upbeat waitresses loaded with personality and food that matches their energy. While it may look like you're going to get a cheap, low quality, traditional diner experience, rest assured, that isn't on the menu here. This spot generates far better than average breakfast entrees. In fact, I'm positive you'll want to return. We will. And, if you're a fisherman in route to target trout on Penns or Spring Creek put this as a must-stop breakfast spot. For anyone looking for a hardy meal there's few better places around that serve a home cooked meal that rivals this. Why? For starters everything is made from scratch. They even have homemade bread, in addition to wheat, white and rye. While I was boring and ordered the simple bacon, eggs, hash browns and toast, my friends were more adventurous. For the record, the eggs tasted farm fresh, the bacon came out crispy (just like I ordered it) and there were no complaints. However, my friends got the better end of the deal by being more open. One ordered the biscuits and gravy, which clearly was made on site and enough to fill up a truck driver. What we all enjoyed most was the french toast. For an affordable price it was a treat and not the typical average meal you'd get at the Waffle Stop of Cracker Barrel. As for the scrapple it's not my favorite, but I know it's a mainstay in PA. The chipped beef shows itself on the breakfast menu and a side of it comes in a form of gravy, but it's not the same stuff the normal gravy is made out of. The beef had enough flavor that it didn't need any gravy, in fact. If there's any room left in your stomach don't be afraid to try one of their cinnamon rolls. They are also made on site along with the sweet tea, which is mixed with pure sugar cane like they do down South. It's destined to bring your energy level up. I go here every day for breakfast or lunch. The food is great and the wait staff are overwhelmingly friendly and helpful. That's not to say you might catch one on an off-day... they're most often short-staffed and they are always advertising for help. For those reviewers who complained about the cost, they need to know that this restaurant, like many others, has seen their costs more than triple over the last 2 years. I've had to readjust my own thinking about what things should cost in today's dollars , whether it be a slice of bacon or a pair of snow tires. Excellent little homey diner where everyone knew each other. The menu is seriously extensive, you won't lack for great choices. The chicken steak salad is topped with fries. If I am not mistaken, the fries were subtly dusted in flour and then fried and seasoned boldly. This French fry fan approved. The chicken was thinly sliced and very juicy and flavorful. The meatloaf was delicious, and smothered in a beautiful brown gravy. The mashed potatoes and gravy and fresh coleslaw was wonderful. The service was spectacular. The serving portions were hearty and prices are reasonable. What is up with the average 4 star review? This is the home cooking you seek. read more

All of our food was delicious! The reviews on Yelp won't lead you wrong. We ordered the mushroom cheese steak sandwich, BLT club, sausage & gravy over biscuits, mac & cheese bites (from the kids menu), and grilled chicken. Everyone cleaned their plate. My daughter ordered the homemade cherry pie and got a huge piece. It took 3 of us to finish the pie. We were just in town for the day, but we wish we could go back. read more

We had breakfast here on Saturday. It was an outstanding experience. The place was cozy, the staff was friendly, and the food was straight up home cooked comfort food. We split the buffalo chicken omelette, my husband wanted it, I was slightly suspicious of what it would be like but it was awesome. The sauce had a nice tang to it, without being overly spicy, and it was filled with big pieces of chicken. It came with home fries and we had the homemade toast. You have to try that as your toast option if you like thicker slices of bakery fresh toast. We also had the hungry mans platter. This was 3 eggs 2 ham 3 bacon home fries or hash browns, we got the hash browns and they were crispy delicious squares, 4 pieces of toast of 3 pieces of homemade toast, a pancake or French toast. We got the pancake and it had a nice vanilla Flavor. All around it was an awesome experience and we'll be back. We love finding a new favorite spot !! Trust me they deserve your business. read more

I have visited the Earlystown Diner about half a dozen times now. It's a diner with diner food and diner atmosphere. It's not a fancy place and it has that neighborhood atmosphere where most people know whoever is sitting at the next table. The food is good. I'd say above average for most diners and the portions are large. Whether you get pancakes or a burger or a full dinner, you won't leave hungry. Reuben: so good, def opt for the platter so you get crispy crunchy fries and perfectly tangy sweet coleslaw Meatball Sub: was a special of the day, yum. Chicken mushroom cheesesteak: solid flavors on a perfect sub bun. Even the chips that come with it taste good lol Buffalo chicken wrap: I'm not normally a fan of buffalo chicken but I don't know if it was their ranch, this was also amazing. My family is visiting us from out of town (Louisiana) this week. After a wonderful tour of Penns Cave, we wanted a local place to eat. We have been to Earlystown Diner several times and I told my sister they have good food and the service is very good. After ordering the Philly Cheese steak sub, my sister did not realize that it came with a sauce and asked if she could get one without the sauce, but keep the onions, cheese, peppers, etc. We thought it was no big deal, however when the second sub came out someone that worked there said at the counter where you pay "if she doesn't like the second, she still has to pay for both" We were taken back by such a rude comment where several customers heard what she said. I approached our waitress Lisa, who was very nice and gave good service about the comment. She apologized for the comment and I asked her to please tell the owner that we were not happy. Not only do we will live so close, and we know many people who eat there, but we have many friends that ask us about where to eat when they come into town. That was a rude comment and I would never be able to treat a customer that way and less we forget that customers in any business pay our wages. JB read more

Been here 3 times. It's definitely a "locals only" kind of place. People are yelling from table to table at each other and it's just not very friendly for new people. The food is very good and the prices are okay, but there's a middle aged brunette woman who is just so damn unfriendly and often rude, that you don't even want to spend your money there. I think she must be the owner because she is always behind the counter and runs the register. She's said a couple of things that led me to believe she was the owner, too. Definitely slim pickings for good local places to eat in and around State College. I'm not a fan of the chains, but they seem to be your best bet for consistency and friendliness. read more

I was searching Yelp for a particular restaurant that we had eaten at before in Center Hall but could not recall the name and it did not show up on the map. We assumed it was closed. I found the Earlystown Diner instead so we took a chance - and it was good. As we approached the door, my husband saw two young servers at the counter react to having customers show up just an hour before closing. My husband gently called them on it and they apologized explaining that it had been a really slow evening. Regardless, I have to say they provided very pleasant, attentive service. We felt happy leaving a nice tip for our server. There's some cool rural landscape art on the walls, too, much of it for sale... My husband got a ham and cheese omelette with a side of French toast. I got the French toast with a side of bacon. We were both very satisfied with our portions. We left satisfied and happy for the fortunate mistake that brought us there. As it happens, we passed the restaurant that I had been searching for when we passed through town. It was open. I guess it was just meant to be. I have bookmarked this restaurant so that we can find it again on our next trip. read more

What type of business owner are you? You tried to shame an individual with a food allergy by having your waitress give the customer a sarcastic pamphlet which basically insinuated that the allergy was fake. THEN you charged this individual for the meal that another customer had already picked up the tab for. When called out on it, you said you didn't have the waitress give out the pamphlet. The owner NEVER apologized, admitted to taking two people's money for the same meal or offered to reimburse either person until AFTER being called out on social media. read more
