Bike experience and confidence is helpful. The good news is that there are so many bikes on the street that they have become part of the driving landscape and car drivers are less likely to not see you. The price is cheap, bikes were well maintained and there were bike stations everywhere I wanted to go. Will definitely use Hubway next time I'm in Boston.

When the only weaknesses of a service are an under-developed infrastructure and the potential…read moreignorance of users who believe they're beyond the application of standard terms and conditions, well sir, you've got a pretty stellar thing going. The Hubway, for the uninitiated, is a network of community bikes meant to be a feel-good alternative to public transit. It is not, I repeat NOT, a bike rental for a day of joy riding. Just as you wouldn't hop in a cab and take it around for grocery shopping, dinner and to catch a flick, you should not consider Hubway for long-term use. It's plastered on every bike, at every station and contained in your rental agreement. Complaining to the contrary is just silly. In fact, the key to its success is the short-term nature of use: 30-minute rides mean a constant flux in inventory, which means greater availability to all. The current price structure is $6 for a day-tripper, $12 for a three-day run (oh hey, long weekend), $20 for a monthly pass and $85 for a full year. All of these memberships have the same terms: unlimited 30-minute cycles, with an up-charge for times beyond. Be mindful of this. Find stations and refresh the 30 minutes often (pop your bike in, get a new code and take it out again). If a station is full, you can easily request a Time Credit from the terminal and get 15 minutes to find another station. Purty smart. Also, using a tracking app like Spotcycle or Biximo to plan your course and know what's full - luckily, there's usually another setup nearby. Some stations build up bikes; others are seemingly always naked. I'd hope this is being evaluated as they expand. And of course, as the number of stations tally up, Hubway only gets more effective. It'd be nice to see some sort of timing function (a stamp on your paper code, perhaps), so you're not relying on your iPhone for those returns at the wire. Finally, a printed confirmation for a bike return? I know the green light flicks on, but if there's ever discrepancy, there's no real record for the user. The wheels themselves are durable, functional 3-speeds that ride purposefully casually (read: slow). It's really an amazing service, and in three(?) years, has made a tremendous impact to the local commuting scene. Even as a bike owner, I'll be using Hubway often.

These are often not reflected in the app or website. So you end up walking 10-15 minutes to a station and then can't use a bike or end up biking around trying to find a working dock at the end of your trip. For instance I just tried to get home from work. First station had two broken docks so couldn't get a bike out. Second station had four broken docks but fifth gave me a bike. Then went to three different stations to find a working dock to return (with many full stations where I couldn't even try.) If you report to customer service they may or may not respond within a week. (I walked by the same broken bike for over a week after reporting it. Simple flat tire and wasn't fixed.) Same for account issues. Took over a month to receive key with multiple calls, emails, lies ("oh we sent it out" "well now we sent it again") before finally receiving. If you are standing at a working dock with working bikes go for it. But don't count on this service for anything unless and until they learn to accommodate current volume.

Then you need to "park" the bike and what they don't tell you clearly is that you need a NEW code to unlock your bike. So I paid $8 for a 20 minute ride that put me far enough away that I needed an Uber to get back. They didn't answer the phones on the weekend and they didn't reply to my chat. Again, great, great idea - terrible user interface.

I was told to come back tomorrow. I tried calling the next day, but nobody answered the phone so I showed up they didn't remember me. I told him I had purchased a scooter yesterday with my coworker, and then they went to look for it and they said it still wasn't ready and they needed to charge it . I came back the following day called again. No answer showed up didn't know who I was again reminded him an went to get my scooter ready for me to take one problem, though there was no charger with the brand new scooter. He could not find it. So he gave me a charger from behind the counter fast forward to today, May 5, 2026. I tried calling again no answer so I drove in. Doors were locked. Lights are on went to the front and back entrance. No sign of anyone one last check I see the guy who sold me the scooter in the window. I motion to him to come over. He comes over. he lets me in. I tell him about my scooter, he tells me to bring it in. I told him the back brake is no longer working, and my rear tire was making a grinding noise. He told me I could leave it to fill out my information before leaving. I asked him when he thought somebody would be able to take a look at it and he told me about a month. He stated the technician wasn't in today and that they had a backlog of scooters that needed to be repaired, which he pointed to in the corner and then told me there was multiple down in the basement of the same model. I told him that wasn't an option for me to wait over a month and that the scooter is still under warranty for another five months he tried to refer me to a scooter shop in Cambridge, which I live nowhere near and not paying for something that was under warranty. I then asked him what to do and he told me to call Segway the scooter company. And then again referred me to the scooter shop in Cambridge, which I had to reiterate that was not an option and I am not paying for something that is still under warranty. I asked him for Segway's number which he told me he did not have and to "Google it". My only dealings with this place twice have not been good and not the best customer service to say the least. Scooters were $1100 with tax and are under warranty for another five months and they are telling me I have to wait over a month to even get it looked at. Unacceptable!

Because of the misunderstanding they offered us a 50% discount for the future, which we were excited to use. We planned another trip up and when I called, Steve advised me to book the reservation and he'd apply the discount afterwards. We rented 2 e-bikes for $200, and had a nice day riding around the north shore. At the time we picked them up, Steve mentioned that he owed us the discount. We dropped them off at the end of the day and everything seemed good. Unfortunately it was never applied I've heard zilch from Steve since then. I've emailed multiple times about it and gotten no response. At this point it's been a month. Presumably since we've paid he just doesn't care? In the end, we had been willing to pay full price the first time around, but it's really disappointing to get a bait-and-switch like this.

When the shipment arrived I found the workmanship to be very good, a solid bike for sure...although a bit on the heavy side at around 30 lbs..... But it was well made for sure.... Sadly, there was some cosmetic damages that happened in the shipment, but the folks at Dynamic went beyond what I was expecting and rushed new parts to me and even offered to pay for any labor should I want to take it to a local bike repair shop and have them do the installs. As it turned out my job relocated me to our other facility right across from the train station. So all I have to do now is drive to where I get on the train and then walk across the street at the other end.... No need for the bike now.... Thankfully since this change took place within the 30-day allowable return period I was able to return the entire bike, replacement parts and all......The credit was handled within a few days after it arrived back to Dynamic...Patrick and his crew were GREAT to work with and were understanding and helpful with everything.... EXCELLENT customer service!!!
