Regular blue bikes rider. Great idea to improve access, fitness, decrease traffic. However the actual service sucks. Bikes are decent but a large portion of bikes and docks are broken. These are often not reflected in the app or website. So you end up walking 10-15 minutes to a station and then can't use a bike or end up biking around trying to find a working dock at the end of your trip. For instance I just tried to get home from work. First station had two broken docks so couldn't get a bike out. Second station had four broken docks but fifth gave me a bike. Then went to three different stations to find a working dock to return (with many full stations where I couldn't even try.) If you report to customer service they may or may not respond within a week. (I walked by the same broken bike for over a week after reporting it. Simple flat tire and wasn't fixed.) Same for account issues. Took over a month to receive key with multiple calls, emails, lies ("oh we sent it out" "well now we sent it again") before finally receiving. If you are standing at a working dock with working bikes go for it. But don't count on this service for anything unless and until they learn to accommodate current volume. read more

First, this is such a GREAT idea! However, the user interface is BAD! You get a 24 hour pass. You can only keep the bike out for 30 minutes. Then you need to "park" the bike and what they don't tell you clearly is that you need a NEW code to unlock your bike. So I paid $8 for a 20 minute ride that put me far enough away that I needed an Uber to get back. They didn't answer the phones on the weekend and they didn't reply to my chat. This company just isn't ready for commuters. I took the train to North Station. Thought I would hop on a hubway bike to work in Southie. When I got to the Hubway station I found ZERO bikes. Just a whole lot of nothing. So I walked to the North End.....broken terminal, bikes can't be rented.....so I walked on to Seaport and Atlantic Ave. Then rode the bike on to Southie. Bike is nice, rides easy, could use more high gears to build up speed going down hills, but all in all a nice bike. I get to the Bike rack and the rack is broken and it won't take my bike. I had to go to a different one. In it's current form, I would advise people against using it to commute unless your work doesn't care when you show up. read more

Great idea, docks too often broken and poor customer service. I would just echo the other reviewers. I rode BlueBikes (can't find them on Yelp, but it seems to be the same company). I spoke with a nice woman supervisor named "K," but she was dismissive of the broken docks and kiosk ("just go to another station". The next station was where our family was trying to ride to, had the docks/kiosks worked.). The upshot was that we paid for four 24 hour passes and only were able to use them once bc of Bluebikes equipment malfunctions. It's too bad, bc biking is a great way to see the city. Hopefully they'll get their act together. It sounds like others have had very similar issues. read more

WE rented 2 bikes for a total of 15 minutes. Returned the bikes to a docking station, received text message "good job" returning the bikes and that they are docked successfully. Than we get multiple texts that we did not return the bikes and also getting charged for a bike we returned months ago!! Customer service is in on the scam and send blanket messages but never addresses the issues and cares to resolve. Get your act together Hubway.....we won't be using your bikes again!! read more

This terrible company probably rebranded because they have terrible customer service. BLUE BIKES, formerly Hubway, was a nightmare. I rode a blue bike from the station near my house to the station outside Harvard Kennedy School. There were two docks available both were broken. Rode to two more stations in Harvard square, one said two docks were available...there were none. I called customer service and was told there was nothing they could do and they couldn't call someone to pick up the bike because they communicate with those people via email. I also saw two other people biking around looking to dock their bikes. Two hours later in 90 degree heat and I'm NEVER doing that again. Horrible customer service and they need more docking stations or less bikes at each station. read more

One of those things that are really horrible but useful because there's no better alternative. A lot of the bikes and docks are broken, and you find out only when you bike all the way there. Many docks also run out of bikes during popular traffic times, so you need to be strategic about planning when to grab a bike. read more

Basically I rented a bike with my friend and nowhere on the bike rental machine does it tell you that you have to dock your bike every 30 mins. It tricks you by saying it's a 24 hour pass. Their marketing strategy is duplicitous. I thought that they would charge me $6 for a full day rental, but that's only if you return the bike to a hubway station every 30 min and get a new bike. Without knowing this, I was charged $92 for a 6 hour bike ride. Returning a hubway to a station every 30 minutes is very inconvenient. As one can understand, I'm very angry. read more

I don't even know where to start. The reviews so far for Hubway are mind blowing. Have any of you tried commuting in the city through any other mode of transport? Hubway is incredibly user friendly, is constantly restocking bikes, and provides several (that means more than one) apps that tell you when a bike dock is full or empty. I commute daily (that means every day) from Boylston to UMass Boston and have never run into an empty or filled dock that was not a five to ten minute ride at most to another useable dock. The people who have so far reviewed Hubway are either some sort of corporate terrorist bent on taking down the only form of cheap and reliable transportation in the City or just too vitamin D deficient to be able to operate a phone and some handlebars (that means get out and take another ride). WORST EXPERIENCE. Returned a bike to the dock, got the green light and left. Checked my app 4 days later and they've been running the clock. Tried to resolve it with customer service and they're saying they'll charge me $1,200 to replace the bike even though it was stolen in their possession after the return was made. They're also refusing to close the ride or close my account. They've been wildly unhelpful and refuse to do anything. Completely unethical business practices. This place is only great IF you park your bike very early in the morning and you need a bike during the day. Because of it's location, all the docks are filled up by 8 am, however, Hubway seems to be almost on top of it and has a van emptying the station around that time (sometimes you might be a little too early) and then in the evening, at about 4:30 all the bikes disappear and you're left with nothing, well, maybe a bike tagged as broken but you can't get it out of the docking station. read more

Joke company that also charges your card with a security deposit even though half of their bikes are busted or poor quality. Terrible experience. We rented bikes and rode them for a half hour, then went to dock them at a station. The station screen did not work, but we had already docked the bike so we were stranded. We called and were instructed to go to a different station, which was broken as well. Basically we ended up hot, standing in the sun, stranded. Called again and had to fight and talk to a manager to be refunded and not be charged extra fees. read more

General idea if Hubway is great - there is plenty of bikes and bike stations. Bike stations are in convenient locations, monthly and yearly pass price is reasonable. However quality of bikes is horrible. Bikes being horrible does not include that they are heavy and unstable, but pretty much every bike is broken. I have been using Hubway to commute from Cambridge to Boston for the last week. Out of 7 bikes 5 were broken - 3 had broken gears, 1 made crazy screeching sound moving and last one made crazy sounds when using brakes. read more

BEWARE. Predatory credit card practices. When you use your credit card you will be charged for violations of terms and conditions, even if there is no way to meet the Ts & Cs due to their lack of docking space - NO EXCUSES!!!. I assume the business model here is not built on renting bikes but rather on charging for violations and betting that you wont stay on hold for hours on end with rude customer service people to get your money back. Doesn't allow renting more than two bikes with one credit card, so my two friends and I were unable to rent because we only had one card between the three of us. Incredibly inconvenient and irritating system. Tampa, FL has a bike share system called 'Coast Bike Share' that's exponentially more convenient. I suggest Boston gets rid of Hubway and incorporates this bike share company. read more

This was the most horrible experience ever. I was going to rent the bike for the first time for all of ten minutes. I did all of the credit card stuff unaware it was going to take 100$ in security deposit which I needed later that day for food. After all of the credit card stuff was done it wouldn't give me the code or anything to unlock the god damn bike. So now I'm walking around Boston LATE bc I don't have a bike and down 150$. I called to get my money back and said it would take a week and they were the rudest people I have ever talked to in my life. NEVER AGAIN. DO NOT RECOMMEND!!! read more

Its great if you can get a bike in the first place. The hubway stations that I use are constantly empty when I need to get to work or get back home. I understand that those are peak hours and that hubway guys try to re-fill empty stations, but they are not on top of things. So, until they work out how to better stock their stations, Hubway is not a very dependable everyday-use biking system. I think I will soon end up buying my own bike. read more

(and i don't use that term lightly~ they made a very specific impression on me) totally not user friendly because they make money on every minute tu waste. trouble with codes, terrible customer service, hidden fees, $356 for 2 24hr bike passes. (202 will be refunded in 10 business Days~ pretty sure the kiosk said 3~5 days) . fees were incurred because there were no parking spaces available at 3 separate bike racks, because i had to waste my precious time i had hoped to spend biking with my daughter around the city waiting online for customer service when their machines didn't give me the right codes, also the number on the kiosk was also out of date so you call and receive a message to call another number.they say the f ees are legit and don't bother trying to appeal because they've already made up their mind "you can try but a note has already been made in your account that the fees are legit." i guess they don't believe in a little thing called due process. she also suggested that when i couldn't find any spots to return the bi kes i should have contacted them again.. sorry but the customer service was already obviously a joke so i decided to bike around looking for other available spots rather than waste more time in which i was being charged. someone told me afterwards a similar things have happens to her and she has been made late for appts and missed trains because of no available spots to drop bikes and she was also charged an arm and a leg. theyre obviously making a killing, they could easily take off the illegitimate fees, (leaving the ones that were legit) and it would be no sweat off their backs. they just don't care about their consumers. i will never give them another dime. as i said. . corporate slime. read more
