Holiday Inn Express Somerset - Our Room at Holiday Inn Express Somerset, PA

We've stopped in this areas several times during our trips from MI to MD. This time around we tried…read morethe holiday Inn express. The room was near perfect. The bathroom sorely needs an exhaust fan. It was super humid after I took my shower. The refrigerator was very spacious and the beds were comfortable. The door locked as it should, which helps me feel secure in the room. Breakfast was also impressive. Sausage gravy, biscuits, pancakes, cereal, muffins, bacon, sausage, eggs, and more. Might even be the highlight of the hotel. The pool and workout room were rather disappointing. The pool was so cold thst we only stayed in for 10 minutes. There were also little black spots floating in it. Not enough to cause concern, but still strange. The workout room was large and had 3 different machines (treadmill, elliptical, and bike) along with freeweights, a bosu ball, and a foam roller. There is a main TV and smaller tvs on each machine. I couldn't get any of them to work so I stopped by the front desk. According to the worker, none of the smaller tvs work, only the main TV. When turned on it says "this device hasn't been registered" meaning none of the work. There are clearly some kinks they need to work out with the pool and exercise room. Once they do, this will be a 5 star place ro stay.

Me'h exterior, pretty much no grass on site. The whole town is a tangle of rear entrances and one way driveways that make it difficult to enter the grounds. Of key note, the entrance of the Penn Turnpike runs in front of the property, has no entrance to the hotel, and you must enter the toll highway and come back from the next exit, 30+ miles away. Lobby seems to be in the middle of reno with lots of construction supplied stored in the open. Breakfast was good, mattress and pillows just average, lost of hot water and AC. Price is high for the location, mixed amenities, and local traffic pattern.

However when we arrived, which was well after the allowed check-in time, we found no one there and also the street, parking area, steps and sidewalk were all covered in 6 or more inches of snow. We phoned her and she was rather rude. She then came to the inn but at that pint we were not able to wait for her to try and clear the snow. We told her we would find lodging elsewhere--she agreed to a full refund but then never gave us refund. She eventually did refund us but not full amount. We should have gotten full refund. It is hotel/lodging responsibility to provide clear/safe passage to their establishments. I would never recommend this property.

It has great access to walk the town and restaurants. Was told when I called prior to making reservation that breakfast was made there and brought to room, not actually the case. You have to walk about a block away to get breakfast. Food was good, but this was misleading and should have been advised upfront so we could decide if this would work for us. (Accommodations were made about a little over a week before our arrival). I would suggest is a brighter light in the main bathroom upstairs. Food at Kitchen on Main restaurant was amazing. Would recommend going there to eat, service was great.

The staff was friendly and welcoming, which made checking in and out a pleasant process. The beds were comfortable, and the room itself was clean, providing a decent spot to rest for the night. I also appreciated the body wash, shampoo, and conditioner dispensers in the shower--a nice touch that's more convenient and eco-friendly than the usual tiny bottles, something I wish more hotels would adopt. However, there were a few drawbacks that kept this from being a standout stay. The pool was a bit of a letdown--it had a strange smell, which we also noticed when taking showers, so it might just be the local water. Still, the pool itself looked a little murky and was definitely in need of relining or repainting to freshen it up. On the plus side, they had a hot tub, which is a rare find in hotels these days and a nice bonus for a quick soak. The breakfast was average--nothing amazing, just standard fare like eggs, sausage, and pastries that got the job done but didn't leave a lasting impression. Overall, the Comfort Inn & Suites was fine for a quick layover, with a clean room and friendly staff, but the pool's condition and the uninspiring breakfast kept it from being more than a middle-of-the-road experience. It served its purpose for our one-night stop, but we'd probably look for other options if we're passing through Johnstown again.

This…read morewas especially meaningful for our family, as it was our first vacation after my wife battled breast cancer, and we were looking forward to a much-needed opportunity to relax and make positive memories together. Unfortunately, our experience was extremely disappointing from the moment we checked in. The room itself did not meet expectations, including an unusually small television for a suite. While that was disappointing, it was not the main issue. The following morning, we attempted to use the jetted tub that was one of the primary reasons we booked this room. As the tub filled, brown water containing visible waste material came out of the faucet and into the tub. We immediately went to the front desk to report the issue. The employee offered us a second room, but when we checked that room, the exact same problem occurred--brown, contaminated-looking water coming from the tub. At that point, we requested a refund because the room we paid for was unusable and the situation was clearly not isolated to a single room. The front desk employee told us the matter was "out of his hands" and could not provide a refund. Rather than showing empathy or attempting to help, he responded with attitude and frustration toward us despite the circumstances. With no reasonable solution offered, we had no choice but to pack our belongings, leave the hotel, and spend hours of our vacation searching for alternative accommodations. This caused significant inconvenience, stress, and wasted valuable family time during a weekend that was supposed to be special. Clean water and basic customer service should be the minimum standard for any hotel. The condition of the rooms and the lack of support we received when reporting a serious issue were completely unacceptable. We left extremely disappointed and would not stay here again.
