Jake was fun, energetic, smiled and you could tell that he enjoyed his job. Rollin, not so much, maybe he was having a bad day, not really sure what was going on with him but to me he didn't seem that he enjoyed his job and was not very personable. Thank goodness we had Jake to take care of us. It a cute little place, they don't really have much for food, that was OK with me because I wasn't there to eat anyway but I do always like looking at menus. I'm thinking maybe very small plates or grilled cheese is what they could make on their Panini press. Happy hour was pretty but sitting at the bar the plants were way too long and we're hanging in our face, that wasn't so much fun. Maybe they needed either to be trimmed back or to be brought up more towards the ceiling. Anyway it seem like it could be fun and it is a place for locals to hang out. While I only came here in the evening for cocktails, their coffee menu looked so good that I thought about (for two seconds) getting a coffee instead of a cocktail. I came with a group of 6 and we were sat in the cozy communal seating area. No problem for us, we like new friends! Luckily for us, we came in during happy hour, and were able to snag some cheap dranks. I saw that old fashioneds were on their happy hour menu and couldn't resist getting it. I'd say that after 3 old fashioneds later, I made the right choice. It was well made, not too sweet, and they added a few extra orange slices because I asked. Our group of 6 split a few light bites: olives and nuts and I have to say that even those were delicious. I'd love to come back to try more of their menu next time I'm in town. The aesthetics in this place are hard to beat. When you enter, you walk in to a beautifully plant-full space with natural and warm lighting and the enticing aroma of coffee. This place operates a little differently than many coffee shops, where you're greeted when you come in and someone helps to sit you and take your order from your seat/checks in on you throughout your time there. Service was top notch, the baristas came to you at your tables and took your order and brought it back to you. They constantly came by and filled up your water and to check in to your needs. Okay. Hudson Hill is the best cocktail bar in Denver. It was my go-to place for the four years I lived in Cap Hill, and it is still my go-to place even now that I live in University Hills. The owner is so kind. The drinks are amazing. The Negroni is - dare I say it - perfect. The cocktail list changes a lot to reflect the seasons, which is so fun! And GET THE GRILLED CHEESE. Just DO IT. It is SO TASTY. My only qualm is that I wish the outside patio area was spruced up a bit. The inside is so chic and cute... kind of a bummer that the outside is just some picnic tables. Oh, boy--what a great place. I love the look. It's hip and modern, like a coffee shop straight out of a design magazine. Luckily, they back up that style with substance. Staff were enthusiastic but not overbearing. The coffee is good. We opted for a caffe latte made with their homemade syrups. We also shared a grilled cheese, which was unique but delicious. They don't appear to have a full kitchen, so bartenders/baristas prep your food too. Our grilled cheese consisted fo several of the delicious cheeses found on their cheese plate, pressed on a panini grill between a baguette from the excellent La Fillette bakery. Odd twist: they slice the baguette and put the cheese on the OUTSIDE of the baguette. This lets the outside of the sandwich (the inside of the baguette) get nice and toasty.
