Came in to check out the selection earlier today, had a great selection of meats not seasoned and unseasoned which all looked fantastic and very affordable! Picked up a 1lb pack of beef brisket burgers and 1lb of chorizo. Cooked the burger and it came out amazing! Nice flavor, good textured meat. They even had deer antlers for a great price for the dogs! Can't wait to try out the chorizo and other meats next time around.

Luckily, there was no line, so I was able to order right away. Both the indoor and outdoor seating areas are really nice. If I hadn't been on the road, I probably would have stayed and hung out a little longer, but I ended up getting takeout instead. The Tex-Czech sausage was one of the most delicious sausages I've had at a BBQ restaurant. I absolutely loved the melted cheese inside the sausage. The brisket also hit the spot, and the sauce was amazing. My only wish, or small complaint, is the portion size. It feels like shrinkflation may be part of it, and it's definitely not cheap. But for a once-in-a-while treat, Micklethwait is absolutely worth it.

This spot was a standout on our Austin BBQ tour and completely lived up to the hype. The brisket and sausage were both incredible, but the brisket especially stole the show. It was easily my favorite in Austin. The bark had the perfect texture and flavor, while the meat itself stayed unbelievably juicy and tender. Every bite was exactly what you hope for when you think of great Texas BBQ. The sausage was just as impressive, packed with flavor and cooked perfectly. You can tell there's real attention to detail here! If you're putting together a BBQ tour in Austin, this place deserves a spot on your list. I thought it was odd that they would be closed on weekends when people have the time to shop along with being closed before people get off work. But those hours make sense when you realize they produce for distribution, not dine in. There's almost 30 reviews so far, but I was surprised that not a single one of them included any photos. If you're coming to this part of town, parking is always a concern in this area. The good news is that there are about eight places to park at here, otherwise you'll have to park in the street, but at least there's no kiosks. As soon as you pull in, the air is filled with that familiar smoky aroma. However, once you step inside, you suddenly realize that this is not a place you can dine in. Basically the first 10 feet of hallway is where the customer service takes place. There is a cold case with all of their sausages on display, including a little beef jerky, and that's it. I have to admit I wish they had brisket and ribs too. They do make a tamale-based sausage for Christmas as a seasonal item. The prices are very reasonable and there is no tip screen. This is not just a grab and go operation, their sausages can be found in virtually every H-E-B. So the good news is that you can find them here or at your favorite H-E-B. But unfortunately the BBQ, which should be the star of the show, just didn't quite hit the mark for me. I came in hoping to try one of their lunch specials, only to find out they had recently discontinued them. I almost left but the staff kindly honored the deal anyway, which definitely turned things around in the moment. I ordered the chopped beef sandwich with garlic parmesan fries. While the food wasn't bad, it lacked the depth of flavor I expect from Central Texas BBQ. Even with sauce it didn't deliver that rich smokiness or bold seasoning I'm used to. That said, maybe I just chose the wrong dish. Their menu does have some intriguing options like crispy duck, ribs, an elk burger, and a full bar. I might give them another try during happy hour or if I'm nearby, but I wouldn't make a special trip just for the BBQ.

Pickles and red onion were a nice touch. Overall, a different spot than the norm and worth a visit. Prices are by the half pound and generous.

First off the reservations were pretty open mid-week; I had booked for Tuesday several weeks ahead of time but then had some plans shift and was able to change my reservation to Wednesday just a couple days ahead of time with no issues. We walked in through the front as the back entrance wasn't really obvious from the parking lot (which is quite small), but that was cool as we got to walk by the deli counter and see the meat and pickled veggies etc that were for sale. Our server was great, very helpful in suggesting items, explaining the menu, and answering any questions we had. On her suggestion we started with the sauteed mushroom appetizer but also requested the black garlic butter to be added on the side (I don't think there was an up charge) and this was a great choice! The mushrooms were tender but with a nice bite and super flavorful. We also got the grilled oysters- I forgot exactly what was in the sauce it had miso and something else, but it was so rich and flavorful! I couldn't decide what was the best between the two apps they were both amazing. The husband ordered the antelope over regular fries (as he doesn't like sweet potatoes) which they were happy to accommodate. It was delicious- tender and perfectly cooked with the chive butter on top. I had never had antelope before and found it very pleasant, not very gamey but with a slightly different flavor than beef. I got the quail over grits with a creole sauce and sauteed kale- amazing! It comes with two quail that I think were spatchcocked- the only bones were in the legs and wings so you could eat it easily. The grits were creamy and the sauce with the kale and quail was delicious. I was able to finish my whole meal but was pretty stuffed at the end! Our waitress encouraged us to get a dessert but when we declined brought us out a bowl of chai ice cream to share as she said she wasn't going to let us leave on our anniversary without a treat! All in all a great experience, only complaints are that they don't serve cocktails (there are plenty of local Texas liquors to choose from!) but we did enjoy a glass of wine, and then went next door to Vic and Als after dinner for a dessert cocktail!

We also got the marinated beets to share with our entrees, the group liked it. For dessert, we ordered the Strawberry galette with buttermilk ice cream, and it hit the spot. The best part was probably the service. Our server was very attentive with good timing. We didn't have to wait long to order anything, and she was very nice with a sweet smile. Onion rings had a nice crust to them, I'm not a huge onion ring girl, so I just had one - two but apparently one of the better ones that people have had if that's up your alley.
