This place is a hidden gem in Austin! I will not go anywhere else for my steaks. They also have tasty sandwiches that rival any in Austin. Check them out!

The Cooper's Cheesesteak. Cooper, you magnificent fellow, you left the world a better place with this sandwich!
    Michael B.

Went back to try 'Cooper's Cheesesteak Sandwich'. I don't know who Cooper is, but he's a very happy man. While completely different than a Philly Cheesesteak, this may actually outshine most incarnations. Instead of an Amoroso roll, the house sourdough is a soft, doughy pillow cradling strips of tenderloin steak with onions, peppers and melted provolone. This is a must-try if you visit this hidden gem of a place! Check out my earlier review re: seating and times to visit. This place retains its score of a 5 out of 5 on the 'CTJ Scale', as noted below. 5 out of 5 stars: Come-to-Jesus good. Would be OK passing away after finishing a plate here. 4 out of 5 stars: Come-to-Mary good. Would be OK being seen eating here by Mother Mary. 3 out of 5 stars: Come-to-Joseph good. Would be OK having a beer here with Jesus' Dad. 2 out of 5 stars: Come-to-the-Apostles good. Meh. Wouldn't have my last supper here. 1 out of 5 stars: Come-to-Nobody good. I wouldn't have my penultimate supper here, either.

Seriously the only place in town you can find veal cutlets or scallopini. No other place in town has it they only have ground veal we stopped in never been here before. Staff was amazing, A local quaint set up. We were able to grab a decent little bottle of wine some deviled eggs and broccoli salad which were both amazing and veal cutlets for our dinner tomorrow night. Thank you Lee's meat market for saving the day and coming through with what we needed!

Finally! I've been meaning to hit this spot for what seems like forever. It kept popping up in my feed and I'd try to re re re bookmark it. I got the opportunity to try it recently and man, that beef tenderloin is something to write home (er... yelp) about. My salad was covered with at least 1.5 lbs of tender delicious beef tenderloin. We also tried the pimiento cheese (baller!) and the deviled eggs (a-ok.) They've got a ton of catering options and meat ready to go. I'll be back to try those offerings and though I thought they were a little pricey, definitely an option for local prepared foods for your event.

I also wasn't much of a meat eater back in those days, so I mostly had tried their sides. Now we're both on keto, so we go for just the meat. The meat was some of the best I've had lately! If I had one criticism, the brisket was just the slightest bit dry, but it had the perfect amount of fat to still make it taste good, and the smoky flavor was perfect! The turkey was moist, and probably my favorite part of the meal. We didn't order sides, but the included pickles were better than standard. It was rainy when we went there, so everyone was packed inside. There were barely enough tables. Their outside seating is not covered. There was no line, and my husband had finished our order by the time I had shaken out my umbrella. The air conditioning was a little too cold for a rainy day. The parking lot is all designated handicapped parking, but we got street parking right next to the building. Since we live on the east side, Micklethwait is convenient, and it has earned a place among our favorite places to go eat!

Luckily, there was no line, so I was able to order right away. Both the indoor and outdoor seating areas are really nice. If I hadn't been on the road, I probably would have stayed and hung out a little longer, but I ended up getting takeout instead. The Tex-Czech sausage was one of the most delicious sausages I've had at a BBQ restaurant. I absolutely loved the melted cheese inside the sausage. The brisket also hit the spot, and the sauce was amazing. My only wish, or small complaint, is the portion size. It feels like shrinkflation may be part of it, and it's definitely not cheap. But for a once-in-a-while treat, Micklethwait is absolutely worth it.

I thought it was odd that they would be closed on weekends when people have the time to shop along with being closed before people get off work. But those hours make sense when you realize they produce for distribution, not dine in. There's almost 30 reviews so far, but I was surprised that not a single one of them included any photos. If you're coming to this part of town, parking is always a concern in this area. The good news is that there are about eight places to park at here, otherwise you'll have to park in the street, but at least there's no kiosks. As soon as you pull in, the air is filled with that familiar smoky aroma. However, once you step inside, you suddenly realize that this is not a place you can dine in. Basically the first 10 feet of hallway is where the customer service takes place. There is a cold case with all of their sausages on display, including a little beef jerky, and that's it. I have to admit I wish they had brisket and ribs too. They do make a tamale-based sausage for Christmas as a seasonal item. The prices are very reasonable and there is no tip screen. This is not just a grab and go operation, their sausages can be found in virtually every H-E-B. So the good news is that you can find them here or at your favorite H-E-B. I almost left but the staff kindly honored the deal anyway, which definitely turned things around in the moment. I ordered the chopped beef sandwich with garlic parmesan fries. While the food wasn't bad, it lacked the depth of flavor I expect from Central Texas BBQ. Even with sauce it didn't deliver that rich smokiness or bold seasoning I'm used to. That said, maybe I just chose the wrong dish. Their menu does have some intriguing options like crispy duck, ribs, an elk burger, and a full bar. First off the reservations were pretty open mid-week; I had booked for Tuesday several weeks ahead of time but then had some plans shift and was able to change my reservation to Wednesday just a couple days ahead of time with no issues. We walked in through the front as the back entrance wasn't really obvious from the parking lot (which is quite small), but that was cool as we got to walk by the deli counter and see the meat and pickled veggies etc that were for sale. Our server was great, very helpful in suggesting items, explaining the menu, and answering any questions we had. On her suggestion we started with the sauteed mushroom appetizer but also requested the black garlic butter to be added on the side (I don't think there was an up charge) and this was a great choice! The mushrooms were tender but with a nice bite and super flavorful. We also got the grilled oysters- I forgot exactly what was in the sauce it had miso and something else, but it was so rich and flavorful! I couldn't decide what was the best between the two apps they were both amazing. The husband ordered the antelope over regular fries (as he doesn't like sweet potatoes) which they were happy to accommodate. It was delicious- tender and perfectly cooked with the chive butter on top. I had never had antelope before and found it very pleasant, not very gamey but with a slightly different flavor than beef. I got the quail over grits with a creole sauce and sauteed kale- amazing! It comes with two quail that I think were spatchcocked- the only bones were in the legs and wings so you could eat it easily. The grits were creamy and the sauce with the kale and quail was delicious. I was able to finish my whole meal but was pretty stuffed at the end! Our waitress encouraged us to get a dessert but when we declined brought us out a bowl of chai ice cream to share as she said she wasn't going to let us leave on our anniversary without a treat! All in all a great experience, only complaints are that they don't serve cocktails (there are plenty of local Texas liquors to choose from!) but we did enjoy a glass of wine, and then went next door to Vic and Als after dinner for a dessert cocktail!

I would have tried the food as well, but I had dinner plans elsewhere and it's a little pricey so I didn't get anything. That said, the guy next to me got one of their steaks and said it was one of the best he'd had, so that's high praise! I got a small glass (like 2 ounces) of the mead which is $5. It's expensive for how little you get but the flavor is just lovely -- as good as any dessert wine I've had! I could definitely drink a glass of it any time. They have lots of tables inside but the parking is a little limited outside. The day I came there was plenty because it was early and it was still pretty empty inside (just one or two other groups there), but on a busy night I imagine you'd end up having to get street parking nearby or something. Bathrooms were immaculate in here though, and the ambiance is nice! Not "super fancy," but definitelty more upscale than casual. Overall it strikes me as a nice date spot! A little expensive, but I'm sure the food is great, and can confirm the drinks are definitely very nice.
