I've been wanting to come here for quite some time, but their hours that they are open made that hard to do. I thought it was odd that they would be closed on weekends when people have the time to shop along with being closed before people get off work. But those hours make sense when you realize they produce for distribution, not dine in. There's almost 30 reviews so far, but I was surprised that not a single one of them included any photos. If you're coming to this part of town, parking is always a concern in this area. The good news is that there are about eight places to park at here, otherwise you'll have to park in the street, but at least there's no kiosks. As soon as you pull in, the air is filled with that familiar smoky aroma. However, once you step inside, you suddenly realize that this is not a place you can dine in. Basically the first 10 feet of hallway is where the customer service takes place. There is a cold case with all of their sausages on display, including a little beef jerky, and that's it. I have to admit I wish they had brisket and ribs too. They do make a tamale-based sausage for Christmas as a seasonal item. The prices are very reasonable and there is no tip screen. This is not just a grab and go operation, their sausages can be found in virtually every H-E-B. So the good news is that you can find them here or at your favorite H-E-B. Probably one of the top five or ten independent sausage makers in the United States, if one excludes the thousands of locally owned Italian "pork stores," found in historically Italian-American city and town neighborhoods, which usually make only Italian Sausage varieties, and do not make anything smoked. They are great in their own right. Every variety of sausage I've had at Smokey's-Hot Link, Andouille, Boudin, British Bangers-has been superb. The spicing is perfect, there is nothing added that doesn't belong in a sausage. The Boudin is the best you can buy in Austin, and on a level with real deal Louisiana-made Boudin. The Texas-made Boudin found in most Austin supermarkets is mediocre at best, and to my knowledge no Austin supermarket sells Louisiana-made Boudin. I have not been to Stuffed Cajun Meat Market, but I am going to assume that they would be the only other Austin source for great Boudin (gotta get there soon). Smokey's is as good as anything you'd find in Breaux Bridge or Opelousas. Smokey's British Banger sausage is indeed strictly a banger, but I was pleasantly surprised to discover that this sausage appears to be modeled on British Cumberland Sausage, which is not just any banger. In England, the Cumberland is universally revered as the top dog sausage (pun intended) and in fact has "Protected Geographical Indication" that only allows sausage made in Cumberland with specific ingredients in a specific way to be called Cumberland Sausage. It's quite peppery (from black pepper) and has a generally robust and complex spice profile. I've never tasted anything in this country that comes this close, and who could imagine that a sausage maker in East Austin would nail it as closely as Smokey's does. If you've had a greasy, bland banger in England or in the U.S., be prepared for something very different. The retail shop is tiny, and is really set up for purchases alone, not for browsing. The folks there could not be nicer, too. Stop by the store if you are in the area and buy some sausage. KUDOS to HEB, which recently started to carry a variety of Smokey Denmark sausages. Buy some Brats or Hot Links and throw 'em on the grill or in the pit. Smokey's may be a Vegan nightmare, but Austin is very lucky to be the home of this artisanal brand. read more

I found Smokey Denmark's due to the review from a trusted Yelper, Rooster. I have been looking for a local venison processor with good recipes, good packaging and reasonable prices for some time now. I like the people here and found them to be a solid purveyor or meat and meat-based products. I tried several versions they sell over the counter (summer sausage, link sausage, Boudin, etc.), and while I liked all of them - the summer sausgae was REALLY good. As for the deer I dropped off for processing, I requested the following; - Link sausage - Buck Sticks - Summer sausage (it rocks!) - back strap (cut to requested thickness) and tenderloins - both tenderized! I really liked their vacuum packaging and markings - which is important if you are going to freezer-store your meat for a while. Smokey Denmark did all of this for reasonable processing fees - and they do NOT co-mingle your meat with someone elses (unless you're into that...and then they can probably do it for a fee). ; -) If you find yourself in East Austin near 5th - or need a new venison processor - check them out. Hey Austin! You do know that Smoky Denmark's have been smoking their meats since 1964?! So why you still standing in that other sausage/bbq line all morning for when you got an Austin born & raised family operating this sausage gem?!!!!! Came here to purchase sausage links for a barbecue some friends were having over the weekend. No line to purchase sausages at 11am with super quick and friendly customer service. Such a clean showcase of their sausages right as you walk in that allows you to take a gander at all of the sausages packaged with stamp dates on every single of them. From breakfast sausages to traditional, Smokey Denmark's has the best of the best of local sausage links. The cashier was knowledgeable about all of the sausages and recommended 3-4 sausages to take with us for our barbecue. Super helpful and appreciated on the recommendations as they were all a hit at the friends get together. Hey! Did you know that Smokey Denmark also sells their sausages at Sam's locations in Austin? They sure do! No price mark up either. The Sam's I went to, in the middle of the week, ran out of Smokey Denmark's sausages therefore I was forced to come to the meat market and purchase in person. This wasn't a bad thing though. I enjoyed the friendly service & a variety of sausages for purchase on the spot. read more

I am picky about my weenies, but these local ones are delicious. The seasoning and fat content are perfect. The perfect amount of that artificial MSG flavor... mmm-mmm good. That explosion of liquid fat as you bite into it. The perfect porkiness that isn't covered up by too many flavors. All of these factors make these one delicious weenie, and a local one at that! I love sausage! I discovered Smokey Denmark's thru Yelp and can't believe it took me living here 28 years to find them. They are located on E 5th near Justine's in an industial/warehouse area. The staff was friendly, helpful answering questions even offering ideas for preparing. I ended up with pepperwurst sausage, boudin, a little gouda cheese and a small package of jerky and it was $12.50! I wanted to buy some bacon but as it comes 5lbs to a box I decided to wait. Totally forgot I was meaning to get breakfast sausage. Maybe it was subliminal and I have my excuse to go back a little sooner. I questioned about the boudin since places seem to frequently use liver which I can't stand. I've had it without so was aware that it doesn't have to have it, however finding it is really hard. My first question was if it had liver or not....she assured me it didn't. Search for boudin is over, it's at Smokey Denmark's! Can't wait to go back and try other sausages and get the bacon to split with family. Seriously, find the time to get there as they are only open M-F from 7:30-3:30. read more

We recently have Smokey Denmark's out to our brewery, Adelbert's Brewery, and it was awesome! They bring their smoker and truck out so you can get the full experience. The food is very reasonably priced ($3 dollars for wraps, $5 slider, ribs were roughly $14/lb but it's ribs and worth the money) and pairs great with our beers which our patrons enjoyed. Personally, I tried the beer brat and creamed corn - Delicious! If you are out and see Smokey Denmark's don't hesitate to try them. If you need a truck for an event, they were super easy to work with! Their team is super friendly! Can't wait to have them out again! read more

Boudin!!! The sausage which gets in yo face about your lo-carb diet! I know about Smokey Denmark's because of their sign hanging at the Shoal Creek Saloon. The Boudin served there comes from Smokey's and it is THE BEST I have ever had. I realize that this is a completely subjective statement from someone who has very little experience with the Louisiana delight. Randomly stopped by after eating BBQ at John mueller and we are glad we did. We bought beef jerkey and jalapeño cheese sausage sticks to bring home to California. I had a taste of these delicious meats the day after we returned home. The jerkey was soft and the seasoning was on point. The sausage sticks had a nice cheese, jalepeno and meat ratio. We live in Plano, whether going to Austin or driving through Austin a must do is to stop and get case of sausage to take home with us. It's perfect for grilling or great with kraut. It's our favorite, nice and lean, favorable, plus I like their natural casing. We like the beef with pork, jalapeño cheese or the Cajun boudin all are exceptional. They have their food truck beside their store that has great BBQ and have picnic tables under large shade trees to enjoy your BBQ, a very relaxing atmosphere. First rate operation and products. I've ordered most everything on their menu at some point or another and have always been quite happy with the taste. My favorites products remain their breakfast sausage and the jalapeno & cheese kielbasas. FYI, their breakfast sausage makes killer breakfast tacos that will make you no longer able to stomach the taste of the slop sold by your neighborhood grocer. The staff is as friendly and helpful as it gets. They don't treat people like a number and will take as much time as you need to help you filter through their extensive menu. Best of all, any wild game you bring in goes in its own tub for processing. What you bring in is what you get back--- unlike some of the other local operations. I recommend Smoke Denmark's to any hunters interested in processing wild game or, any non-hunters simply looking to buy some product (they have pre-packaged meats at the front counter) for a weekend BBQ. read more

Dropped a deer off for processing. This was my first time using Smokey Denmarks. The turnaround time was longer than I expected, I guess I should of asked at the drop off. Expect a 5-6 week turnaround time. But the final product was worth the wait. The steaks cut perfectly, and the smoked sausage were made to perfection. Excellent packaging for storage.
