100% worth the hype. The barbecue here is elite. And all of the sides we had were just as good. Is the wait long? Yes. But there is a reason it's so crowded. People know. The staff is super friendly- they'll talk to you about the menu while in line, update the board on what's still available if you go later in the day. And they have a whole menu of "anytime eats" that you can order directly from the bar without waiting in line. Been here three times. From the "anytime eats" menu, would highly recommend the chopped cheese brisket sandwich- absolutely divine. On Thursdays they do chicken fried steak which was VERY good- but I found myself wishing I had just waited in line for action bbq. Onion rings are some of the best I've had. And the cornbread is a next level version that beats out fine dining restaurants attempts- hands down. For bbq, I've had brisket, sausage, pulled whole hog, and Tri tip. I think the Tri tip is a sleeper hit here- it was melt in your mouth tender and still had that wonderful smokiness. The brisket was.... Brisket. Very good. Great bark. Didn't really stand out, IMO. But it was what you hope for with brisket. Sausage as well- very good. The pulled whole hog rivaled the best of the Carolinas. Smokey, tender, rich. Just delicious. And I guess this is what surprised me most- how two bbq dishes from different regions (CA for trip tip and NC for whole hog) stood out as excellent dishes here in Texas. Parking is limited in their lot but street parking in neighborhood available. Came on a Monday evening and the "what's available" board helps with just setting expectations early on. We got a tri tip, onion rings, miso glazed carrots, chili Fritos, the burger, and I couldn't leave without the banana pudding tiramisu. Yes the dessert is about as naughty as it sounds, definitely sharing size. I've probably talked about the sweet treat more than anything else. The tri tip was cooked perfectly, it melted in your mouth, so good. The burger also had great seasoning to it, was rarer than what I would have likely but still quality meat. Onion rings had a nice crust to them, I'm not a huge onion ring girl, so I just had one - two but apparently one of the better ones that people have had if that's up your alley. We were all in line for BBQ but should have been in line for the burger. Not only is the burger better than BBQ, there's a separate area to order non BBQ dishes. There was never a line there. Go straight to the bar and order a burger, onion rings, fries, and many other non BBQ items. You can also order these in the BBQ line but you'll be waiting a very long time. I remember liking the BBQ but not thinking it's a top tier. Most cuts are obviously good but in a way that you expect them to be. I've been wanting to try Leroy and Lewis Barbecue for a long time, and I finally had the chance to stop by. I visited during dinner time and got lucky with the only parking spot in the back of the building. The environment was great and relaxing, and they also have a little bar where you can grab a drink, which makes it a cool place to hang out. Definitely my favorite bbq restaurant I've ever been to! Apparently our 45 minute wait was very short compared to normal. There was a floater employee asking if people had any questions about the menu so things would keep flowing once you got up to order. When we did order, the employee was friendly as well. It's a well-oiled machine. Our family of 5 adults ordered practically everything on the menu and it was all top notch! I have tried the whole hog (omg so so good), tri tip, flat iron steak, jalapeño sausage, Caesar slaw, glazed carrots, hash, barbacoa, frito pie, chorizo papas, potato chips, pork tenderloin, the cheesecake (omg so so good) and the banana tiramisu. Now I'm not a BBQ connoisseur, despite being a born and raised Texan...but I think it's safe to say, Leroy and Lewis know what they are doing. Solid BBQ options (I had brisket, beef cheek, and jalapeño chorizo sausage) that'll satisfy anyone searching for Texas bbq but also some interesting options for those not looking for a meat coma (Frito pie, burger). I'll be honest and say none of the sides really seemed to catch my eye (besides the Frito pie) and they don't have the usual sides you might want but they've got daily specials and it won't be hard to find something you'd like. It's spacious and while there is a wait for the BBQ, they do have a separate line for the "any time eats" which is practically no wait. Easy enough to get drinks while you're waiting and the line was shaded if you were outside and had spots where you could sit down when you got inside. I will say it did feel a bit warm/muggy when you were inside but not unbearable. They had someone come out to hand out menus to people in line and also take drink orders so A+ service. Like most great bbq spots, I about an hour-hour half to put in our order but unlike other spots, I found that they cleared tables quickly and I didn't have to worry if after all that waiting if id be able to sit to enjoy my food. Travelled to Austin and our number one priority was barbecue! Parking was a little challenging as the parking lot is really tiny. We had to drive around the neighborhood during a weekday lunch time to find a spot and walked around 3 mins. I also stepped in a fire ant hill and got bit so watch out for the grass around the area lol... PSA: Do not let the line outside fool you!!! We saw there was only 3-4 people outside so we decided to park and walk together but oh boy were we wrong. We got in line and the staff came out to let everyone know that it is an hour from the door to the front of the line. There was a drinks counter to get drinks and the hot food menu (basically anything besides the meats), so people enjoyed drinks while in line, which was nice. I also appreciated the staff's frequent update about meats that were left and the approx wait time, it seems like the beef cheek was about to sell out shortly after us so we were lucky! Food - Beef Cheek: SO GOOD, MOIST, TENDER. Definitely a juicier and fattier cut than the brisket but it was beautifully smoked and full of flavor! (While it is really really good and I definitely recommend, you shouldn't get too much of it as the richness of the flavor would get overwhelming and a variety and contrast would make it even better.) - Brisket: Loved it. We got 2 pieces and one was moist and one was lean. I preferred the moist one as it was kinda in between the lean and the beef cheek in terms of juiciness and tenderness. - Jalapeno Cheddar Chorizo: We wanted to try just a little bit but didn't realize we had to get a whole sausage. We are glad we did! It was so juicy and had nice flavor and snap. Definitely a nice change of pace alongside the brisket and beef cheek. - Miso Glazed Carrots: Hmmm... It was good but nothing really mind-blowing. I read that it was a "must get" and it really wasn't, imo. A few weeks after our stop at LeRoy and Lewis, I finally have time to catch up on my mixed review! I'll start by saying I've loved LeRoy and Lewis for years, especially because of their cheddar cheesecake I tried back in their truck years. Now my husband and I are both on keto diets, and eat out a whole lot less. He suggested going out for our dating anniversary - bbq and a movie on a Friday night. I was open minded, and said sure. I knew popular bbq on a Friday night would be crowded and sold out. Sure enough, we got to LeRoy and Lewis, and they were busy, and sold out on most of their top items. My husband had to park a few blocks away and walk back in the rain. An employee was extremely helpful going over the menu and showing us what things didn't have many added carbs, and even looking up specific ingredient lists for us. I haven't seen this level of service at a restaurant in decades! We found a few things we could eat - prime rib, chicken, the burger (without the bun), and smoked mushrooms. I figured we'd just make the best of it. However, my husband was now in a mood because he couldn't get the brisket or beef rib that he came to try. I ordered enough prime rib and chicken to share, but he was stubborn and didn't even touch it, leaving me to finish off more meat than I wanted. My husband ordered the burger, having heard glowing reviews. However, it was beyond rare, to the point that it was bland and mushy, save for the overpowering crust of black pepper all over it. All we could taste was the black pepper, in a way that made me not want to put pepper on anything since that meal. He said that he could taste lighter fluid on the smoked mushrooms, but the one I tried was pretty good. I think my husband was mostly mad that he fell into paying a lot of money for something other than the food he wanted. I could have told him that this is part of the "top" Austin bbq experience, but I also could have told him that the "top" Austin bbq experience is something to plan for, and not something that just falls in place on a Friday night. I'm only coming back when I'm not on keto so I can get their cheddar cheesecake again... and their smoked cookie, and several other sides that were teasing me! You can skip the BBQ line, too. Is a $10 burger pricey? Sure. In 2026, though, what you get here is clearly on a different level. Mind you that the "Big Arch" that the McD's CEO labored to take a single bite of is more expensive. What you get here is excellent. Simple construction with flawless execution. Soft potato bun, grilled onions, and a reasonable slathering of their burger sauce surround the patty, which is literally draped with a classic American cheese. The star of the show here, unsurprisingly, is the meat. You get a thick patty that is smoked to a sweet spot somewhere between medium rare and medium. The even cooking is impressive to behold, and the smoke flavor permeates every bite. On the exterior, they achieved a beautiful, peppery crust that lends just the right amount of char to further flavor the experience. Despite the thick patty, the burger is surprisingly not messy. One thing I've come to expect from a thick burger is juices everywhere and racing against time to eat it before the juices turn the bun into a soggy mess. Not here. Take your time and savor it. While this is too decadent to be my go-to burger, this is absolutely something I will indulge in from time to time. Somebody a lot wiser than me once posited that "How you do anything is how you do everything". The same passion and craftsmanship that have earned Leroy and Lewis the highest praises for their barbecue is on full display here - in burger form. Every single interaction was exceptional and everyone there wanted to make sure that you had a great experience- rare these days and appreciated. Star of the show was the food. I got the brisket, beef cheeks, sausage and burger: Beef cheeks- I will get these every single time. Tender and packed with flavor. Sausage- my 2nd favorite of all time anywhere in Texas or beyond. It is everything I want in a sausage. Brisket- really good and perfectly cooked in my mind- not sure how it could be topped Burger- I'm torn on this one. It was very flavorful but I felt that the patty was too thick and therefore the cook on it was more rare than I'd like. Personal preference and not a deterrent to try it or for me to order it again. I was in Texas for the first time and I wanted to try the Texas BBQ. This place was packed and the waitress explained that it had Michelin Stars for 2 years in a row for their famous beef cheeks. I got 1 meat plate with beef cheeks, cole slaw, and miso glazed carrots. The beef cheeks were very tender and melted in my mouth. However, I did feel that the flavor was a bit too salty for my liking. I think the BBQ sauces were pretty okay. I wish the flavor couldve been less salty. The dessert we ordered was banana pudding tiramisu. It was very good! I liked that it wasn't too sweet and had real bananas that gave tiramisu anazing texture and flavor. read more

Worthy of the Michelin stars! We waited over an hour but it was well worth it! Once you get to the counter, the service is prompt and the only wait appeared to be burgers as well as to go items. The beef cheeks were perfectly seasoned and so tender I didn't need the knife. The pimento cheese sausage was an excellent surprise - a little spicy with a nice creaminess from the cheese that only complemented the pork. BBQ: 5/5. Absolute top-notch brisket. Incredibly juicy and tender. The carrots and cauliflower were the stars of the show. As a BBQ meat lover, I don't usually order many veggies, but these were my two favorite dishes (after the brisket). Line took around an hour on a Friday afternoon. Worth the wait! read more

Beef cheek is very tender, brisket is in the middle. Flat iron is too lean. I suggest to skip barbacoa which is like ground meat, not good quality one, and oily. Waited for one hour and half, 90 minutes. Not worth it. read more

Leroy and Lewis is pretty good BBQ. I was impressed with the tri tip(I don't normally like tri tip but theirs is quite good). The sausage was pretty average. I loved the kale coleslaw. I was not a big fan of the potatoes. My bf got the Barbacoa and I'm pretty sure he got food poising from this - so that was not ideal. They were sold out of brisket (they usually sell out of this by like 2 or 3 I guess). read more

We arrived at opening time (11am) and we were in line for about 1.5 hours. Not bad for a Michelin star rated BBQ joint! Well worth the wait! The brisket was full of flavor and cooked perfectly and the sausage was fantastic but the star of the show was the beef cheek. I was amazed at how much flavor was in this cut of meat. The consistency was moist but not too fatty. The pappas were amazing and the chips were crispy and fresh! The staff was very friendly and helpful. The only disappointment was that I did not grab any of their desserts! Word is, they are also amazing! I will have to try next time...and there will definitely be a next time! read more
