If you are looking for period items to help with your restoration I would definitely check out Hudson Valley. They have an extensive selection of practically everything. And all very well organized. I wouldn't describe their prices as a bargain, you will have to pay well for your find. read more

Alright, you NEED to know about my new favorite place in Newburgh... well, perhaps my new favorite place in the Hudson Valley, or even New York! On the hunt for salvage and antiques, Hudson Valley House parts popped up in my Yelp search. I saw that it was close to a coffee shop down the block that I was hoping to check out and this made for quite a lovely afternoon break on a recent weekday (not a Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday, though, as they are closed these days). First things first: give yourself some time to spend here. On the day I went, I was told that they had just received a new shipment. There was a lot of stuff to behold, and I may have even needed to crawl through things to seek all of the treasures that caught my eye. I was especially taken with the selection of vintage sinks and tubs, but then I looked up and I found her... a dreamy white chandelier with little deer heads that looked like it would be at home at a Rothschild Illuminati Ball. Mine! (well, mine when I have the funds for it. I'm just staking my claim now. And you better not buy it out from under me because I WILL hunt you down). I loved all of the lighting fixtures. They were beautiful and unique. As another reviewer mentions, the owner is brilliant and kind. He gave us an impromptu Hudson Valley history lesson and now we have all kinds of exploring to do. No hard sells here, just helpfulness and an ardent passion for antiques and history. I was admiring the intense wall paper behind my chandelier and he told us about the very storied origins. This is what I love about antiques most of all, the stories behind each piece of furniture, fixture and textile. Architectural salvage? This store is fabulous.... it's a well curated assemblage of architectural salvage, lighting, and antiques. The owner is lovely and very helpful should you be looking for anything in specific. What a wonderful addition to Newburgh's growing Broadway corridor. The store has an amazing variety of materials for renovation, and the owner, Reggie, seems to know a bit about each and every item. He is generous with information, but not pushy. He is knowledgeable about restoration methods and resources, clearly passionate about Newburgh's restoration projects and welcomes each person who enters his store with grace. We are renovation (slowly) a single house, so we aren't big fish (or spenders) - but he has just been a tremendous resource for us - both the materials from his store and his knowledge of renovation and craftsmen. Went here to look at the inventory. Was pretty excited to find a cool location near our home. The stock was great but the service was lacking. We asked the owner about installing Dbl doors - if he could recommend someone who knows this type of door- our home was built in 1870 and want the original style of door reinstalled. He was vague at best and when he finally did give us a name it was like we should know the guy since he lives in our town. We get it- it's a small job- but is it? And who are you to decide what a contractor will or won't do. I have money to spend on the slightly over priced things in your shop. But won't be back. I gave 3 stars for the inventory. read more

I stopped by yesterday on the recommendation of a local restaurateur who shops there regularly. I relocated from Park Slope Brooklyn 3 months ago and furnishing a large house from scratch. I wanted a freestanding bath tub for one of my bathrooms. Not only did I get a beautiful brand new cast iron claw foot tub for below retail, they squeezed me in for next day delivery. Recommended a plumber and then some. The kind of welcome that a new neighbor needs. Truly impeccably unheard of service. I never write reviews, to busy. Yet if your looking for used, new, eclectic or the best brands, from all over the world, HVHP has it all. I can't wait to go back tomorrow! (JM) read more
