My girlfriend and I stopped in to grab something and ended up looking at the Christmas trees (of course). We found one we wanted but it wasn't on the floor. The app said it was in stock, so I asked someone to help me find it. Long story short, we had 4 different people helping us with this tree (all happily offered). This sweet lady, Joan, ended up finding it ,and Thomas brought over an entire pallet of them, personally delivering us one. The following is strictly in regard to the selection of lumber and the physical appearance of the lumber department. I wasn't there for anything else, ...so it would be disingenuous of me to comment on a product line or any aspect of service and competence of staff in areas of the store that I didn't frequent. Now I don't consider myself a professional contractor by any means, I'm more that 'Jack of all trades, master of none' type. However, I don't need to be a beaver to know good wood. Being an old guy who grew up in a different world, one where men worked on their homes and were responsible for maintaining the homestead inside and out, I've become quite dispirited at the current state of American 'Manhood.' Now comes the review of the Newburg Home Depot. This particular Home Depot has never been known for its top-shelf lumber, but the chance you'll get something useable hits around the 75% mark. That was until the recent administration decided to turn this country into a 3rd world state. First I had to make my way through at least 23 recently arrived 'migrants' blocking the entrance near the lumber entrance babbling away in their native tongue and unwilling to step aside for a man to pass. Right off the bat, my blood pressure began to rise as I was forced to navigate my way past the deluge of coughing and hacking men, I could only imagine who had what. Then I went into the lumber isle in search of 10 straight 2X4's. After an in depth 1-hour search, I fund 1. I'm getting a little ahead of myself, so let's back up... 'the lumber isle'. To say that the stacks of lumber were neatly displayed would be a complete lie, it was as if a giant came into the store and tossed all the various sizes of stud lumber onto the floor like 'pick-up sticks.' Now I can't fault the staff, there weren't many to start with and the HORD of migrants flinging lumber around was more like a hard of grandmothers at a white sale at the local linen store would be too much for a staff twice their size. Just writing this is disconcerting, knowing that it will never get better. I'll refrain from bantering on about the social situation this nation now faces as it applies to the quality of service, product availability, and price. So let me just get to the point in a more direct way. #1 the quality of wood gets a -100. The price-to-quality ratio gets a -100. The appearance of the store (Lumber department) gets a -100. The 'This Is Bullshit' factor gets a +100. The ease of finding someone to assist you gets a -100. The ease of entering and exiting the store without having to fight your way through half-parked driverless autos and trucks gets a -100. ...and so forth. Now I'd held off on posting this because I figured everyone could have a bad day, so I stretched this review over a week. I gave this Home Depot 5 days and 5 attempts over 3 wood deliveries to change my mind. However, every day I showed up I was faced with the same result. So I placed an order online WP #10546795 like I have before. I have a long driveway and every driver before has unloaded the materials in front of my garage. So in this order I ordered 13, 80 lbs bags of concrete mix. Mind you that the weather is cloudy and has been raining on and off. This knucklehead delivery driver unloaded the pallet by the road and never even walked up the driveway and rang the bell. How in the heck am I supposed to know it's there. To boot the phone number on the pallet order sticker is an old number that has been updated at the store. So if the driver called he should've known that he did not get in touch with me. Would love to confront that lazy or incompetent driver. I'm only giving three stars because this is the first time I was this disappointed. All because of this driver. COVID19 RISK. - A week ago, I was in the paint dept. An employee was wearing his mask improperly. I pointed it out. He pulls it over his nose. I walk past about 5 minutes later, his mask was down again. - yesterday, I'm in hardware dept. Someone asks if she can help. A rarity in Home Depot! I said yes, you can by wearing your mask properly. She asks if I need help with the hardware. I say no, and repeat again that the way to help me (I'm 66) is by wearing her mask properly! She says that SHE is reporting ME to management for threatening her!!!! Talk about black is white and white is black. Fool me once shame on you. Fool me twice shame on me. Fool me a third time? I went shopping at Lowe's this evening but I needed to get two quarts of paint and match two colors in Behr paint, HD's in house brand so ... back to HD I go and guess what? Both people at the paint counter are not wearing their masks properly. And, when I asked for help in the hardware dept, a staff member got within 2 feet of me, I had to back off. I complain at the checkout counter again. She argues with me "you were here last week! ...", and, since she was obviously disbelieving, I show her pictures I took to prove my point of the two staff people wearing their masks over their mouth and chin, leaving their noses exposed. Her response? ."You can't take pictures of them! They are minors! And they are behind the plastic screen!" Well, first of all, those plastic "screens" don't do jack. They are a PR, not science. Secondly, it's perfectly ok for these same "minors" to put the lives of 66 year olds at risk because following the health orders of NY State are too inconvenient for them? Excuse me? It is typical of minors to ignore health guidelines: If they are minors, TRAIN THEM properly! The rules are: indoors, everyone must wear a mask. Maybe staff thinks that big box stores are so cavernous that they don't need to follow the rules. But if enough people don't follow the rules, then aerosolization eventually spreads the virus - that can survive for up to three hours in the air - throughout the entire conditioned space. Home Depot apparently has a systemic problem with providing strict COVID19 training of their employees at this location. His response? "You can do that. Not a problem." As someone who is at risk due to age, this IS a problem. I am never going here again. Received horrible customer service via the phone. Had to go into the store and the woman "Shirley" working in customer was still rude and didn't know her job well enough to assist me. Had to have a store manager come and resolve my problem. Considering Home Depot's competition is across the street I probably should take my business else where. In Newburgh there are 2 choices lowes or the Home Depot. There are other hardware stores and countertop stores around. But for chain stores those are the 2 options The store itself is just like everyother lowes location. They have everything you would need for home improvement. This lowes does tend to be more expensive than the Home Depot. We had to look for an employee to ask a question. Once we got up to the front where the check out was. 2 employees asked us if we needed help with anything. That would have been helpful before checking out! But. They were nice. This location does have a big parking lot there is a 24 hr security guard that drives around. I don't know why but they have one. You can walk to the TGI Fridays and barns ennoble. Overall. One complaint that is consistent in many of the reviews is the difficulty in finding someone to help. I stopped in for some supplies on a Saturday afternoon while rebuilding my garage wall. We stood around for several minutes in the lumber department with a question about paneling and nobody came around. We had to separate and walk around until we could find an employee. They were scarce. We ended up finding an employee who was extremely helpful. I never caught his name, but he was knowledgeable on all of their products (not just lumber, but other sections too). He was polite, creative with giving us ideas, and all around helpful. I've always had good encounters with the staff here. They are mostly all courteous, knowledgeable, and seem to enjoy their jobs. I have worked for large companies most of my career. One of the unfortunate things with large companies is that they don't typically empower their management to make happy customers. We put in a whole new kitchen and we really had a bad experience. Half our appliances didn't show up and when we called them the answer was oh the truck company we use sometimes the appliances disappear off the truck. So you're sending people to our house to deliver appliances that steal stuff off the truck. Did not make us feel comfortable. We bought Samsung products. We've only had them for two years and it's all falling apart and we spent money on it. The metal is peeling off the wheels in the dishwasher already broke the bins in the refrigerator already broke. We are only three people in the house. These products should be lasting longer than that we should've kept our old products. No one is responding to me regarding these issues either. read more

We had ordered appliances from this store back in Jan. We live in PA in a gated community, this time of year it's spring thaw and all trucks entering the community need a weight receipt. Delivery was turned away at the gate for not having the receipt. When we contacted the store no one knew where our appliances were, and repeatedly asked us to call their third party delivery team. No one had answers, and now two days after our "delivery" no one called us back, and no one had answers for us when we called. They were completely rude, and wanted us to go pick up the appliances, which at this point still no one knew where they were! This team at the Newburgh location are incompetent, rude and unprofessional . After the nonsense we were getting fed, we called the Home Depot home office and within ten mins they knew where our appliances were, and gave us a new set delivery date. After that we got a phone call from the Newburgh store with someone yet again telling us they don't know where the appliances were. Once again Home Depot has proven that customer satisfaction in not a priority. This is not the first time I have had such an experience with Home Depot, upon contacting customer service about a defective ceiling fan, I was assured a replacement part was on its way to make me a satisfied customer.. a week or so has passed so I contacted customer service and discovered the part was on back order and not shipped. A courtousy call would have been the correct response to let me know of the seat, instead I left my fan apart and waiting for this fix. Instead they have proven the customer is not our concern. We stopped in here for a baby gate. We're actually getting a puppy and this Home Depot is near the breeder. Probably the most clean Hone Depot I've seen. The guy was driving around on a Zamboni thing cleaning the floors constantly. We got the gate and right before my father went to put it in his car, a black guy can through the doors and ran outside. The staff didn't really do much about it. They tried calling out to him but didn't do much. The staff could've been better and that's the reason why this place gets 4 stars. Visited today to deal with a slow moving shower drain. I got some excellent advice and customer service from Mike, and another gentleman who had a brace on his left arm, who is employed by the store, but was not currently working at that time!! My husband and I are transplants from California and have found many of the people here to be harsh, abrupt and less than what you might call "helpful." I purchased a riding mover which was scheduled to be delivered today. At the time of the purchase, I asked that it be tagged so that it wouldn't be resold. Well, guess what happened? You guessed it. It probably wasn't tagged and it ended up being sold out from underneath me. Anyway, . . .after five hours of lost time, endless double-talk and lies from at least five associates I left with nothing except a invoice that stated I had paid in full for a rider mower they couldn't replace. Mind you now. That wouldn't be so bad, but it's extremely hard to find riders at this time. That stated, as a patron for 25 years, I asked the manager if he was willing to provide me with a gift card to compensate me for my time, effort and the incompetency I encountered. He informed me that he couldn't because it wasn't Home Depot policy to do so. Bottomline: Buyer beware. If you're purchasing a large item that's in short supply, consider how you're going to get it home yourself. read more
