I called them because of their commercials painting the picture of them being an honest, respectable family company. I had a burst water pipe and my two toddlers were without water. I told them my situation and they said I'd have to wait 2 days for them to come and "estimate" the final cost and it would cost $60 just for the estimate. Anyone who has kids knows you can't go two days without water. I reiterated the seriousness of my situation and the lady on the phone treated me with callous disregard and reiterated that they WOULD need cash up front, but offer financing IF I qualify. This was unacceptable to me. I grabbed a shovel, went outside and started digging. I found the problem myself. It was a broken coupling at the meter. I took the coupling to Lowe's and they showed me the exact parts I needed. The final cost was $58 (including candy for my babies) and several hours of digging. I had it fixed that very evening. I feel sorry for the people who absolutely need to depend on this company. The city of Kingsport confirmed no leaks and turned my water back on before bath time. I feel like I did the right thing. Price gouging SCAMMER! If I could give negative 5 stars I would! Dont EVER use this company. Called for a toilet reseat, they told me I had to replace my toilet with a new one, then tried to charge me $2200 for the replacement! After arguing with the manager on the phone over the ridiculous price he refunded me $900. Then they said I needed a new water heater -50Gal Direct vent gas heater- and told me it would cost $5700 for the entire job!!! I told them to take a hike, went to lowes, bought a new heater for $1850 and their installers did a great job and it cost me $2100 total. $700 to patch a tiny PEX water leak. $3000 to replace a water heater. Fool me twice, shame on me? I realize now that they definitely overcharge. I'm also worried that the quality won't hold up over time, but I can't comment on that, yet. They are available quickly, same day for us, but what happens is they make the job seem very difficult, then provide the estimate which feels high but has been justified. They charged $60 just to come out to look at the problem. We were informed we needed a new water heater and the cost was absolutely outrageous! Let me preface this review with the fact the work was done at my grandmother's house and an estimate was given and the final price was true to that estimate. They could have walked away and found a different plumber. The following were the charges: Fill valve and flapper $204.74 -(est $25 for hardware from Lowe's) this is not installing a whole new toilet. This is just replacing the hardware inside the tank Commode emergency shut off valve and supply line $187.22 -1 valve and a supply line (est $20 for hardware from Lowe's) Lavatory emergency shut off and supply lines $314.82 (est $40 for hardware from Lowe's) -These were the two lines going to the faucet that she supplied Client supplied faucet sink $279.32 -This is literally 2 bolts and connecting the drain plug. (10 minutes of labor for a novice) All told they were there for a little over an hour start to finish. At the end of the day, this company took advantage of an older woman who wasn't savvy about what things should cost. I have no problem paying a plumber a premium. They have a business to run. But there is no justifiable reason they should charge this much other than they were able to get away with it. I called and spoke with a manager, Billy, who started off nice enough until I asked him to justify charging almost $600 for installing a faucet that had already been purchased. At that point he informed me that they were in business to make money and they had to pay for background checks and preemployment drug testing. ***CAUTION: Elderly Lady Charged $1100 To Fix "Running" Toilet*** Unfortunately, this is a true story that occurred just before Thanksgiving. My 83-year-old widowed Mother-in-Law felt that her toilet was running excessively so she called Steve Huff Plumbing. She was rewarded for this call by being charged $1100!!! Please see below for a breakdown, according to an invoice for which I called to obtain. 1. Service Charge: $89 --she said to the best of her memory that the plumber was there for approximately 1-1.5 hours. 2. Toilet "tank rebuild": $612.88 --the most expensive toilet at Lowe's is $279; therefore Steve Huff Plumbing charged her over $300 more for plastic parts for the tank than the cost of a high-end toilet set. 3. Replace "emergency stops on the hot side" (i.e. shutoff valve) of kitchen sink: $424.77 --the plumber offered a "free" kitchen sink inspection (although she did not call about this and had no complaints). His inspection found that the shutoff valves needed replaced. These are less than $15 each at Lowe's, but Steve Huff Plumbing charged her right at $400 for these parts (keep in mind the service charge was just $89!) When we found out about this, we called to obtain an itemized invoice. I've emailed them twice to ask if a simple typing mistake could have occurred that would explain an $1100 charge for her calling about a "running toilet". We have received no response. She is devastated because she lives on a fixed income and that unexpected $1100 expense completely alters her ability to pay bills, buy groceries, and shop for Christmas. She is also very embarrassed because she made the phone call that led to this. We decided to ask a couple of other plumbers what these services would cost at most. Independent of each other, they both said less than $250 in worst case scenario. We NEVER complain about service-oriented work. We know how hard people work and respect their skillsets. Times are tough for all of us and we are happy to pay fair prices for work. This was excessive and not right. Again, we are not the type to complain, but we do not want this to happen to any other elderly folk who are looking for help. I had a water tank and thermal expansion tank replacement done in my laundry room. I live on a one level 55+ community condo. It was a standard job. I failed to do my due diligence though by not receiving at least three estimates as is recommended. I was told they would only give me a 20-30 min notice before they arrived. I am a single mom so I took off work to make sure I was home because I had no one else. Loss of pay. Rescheduled my sons dr's appointment too. AND meanwhile money is literally going in the ground as my issue was a leak at the meter on my side. Absolute price gouging. 300$ for cutting a peace of pvc with sawz-all. Then Quoted 2k in labor for the one-two hours needed to finish the job. I have used Steve Huff before And the prices were high at that time. But, they had great products, got the job done in a reasonable time, replaced anything I was concerned about, and they make sure to call to confirm appointments/let you know when they are headed your way. So, at the time I bit the bullet. fast forward 1 year. My septic Tank needs a new pump. I spent a week getting quotes, information, making calls, and doing research. So, out comes the salesman, yes i said salesman, I spent 20 minutes saying 'No' to all the random trash they wanted me to pay for. Then this guy they sent had ZERO answers of his own. he was at my home for 2 hours. In that time he spent 80% on the phone because he had ZERO answers, he also took a sawz-all to a pvc pipe so he could remove the old pump. This cost me almost 300 dollars. 10 minutes for uncovering the tank, 10 to cut 2 wires and a 2 inch pvp pipe with a power tool, 20 minutes spent trying to upsell me, and over an hour on his Cellphone 'Finding the new pump' was 300 dollars. If I assume he was actually working the whole time that's 150$ an hour. All of this bothered me but did not get me to the point of writing this review. Its when This young man came to me to tell me that he can only find one pump and its a 2 week wait. So, I took a copy of the quote and started making calls myself. Not only did I find a pump 15 minutes into making calls But I also found out how much these guys cut into their customer's pockets. Steve Huff's team planed on charging me 2250$ to put 4 feet of pvc on a pump, attach it to the old pvc, and plug it in. The lady Angie or Angela was very rude on phone, would not ask anyone what is typically included with that. All she would say is" tech has to look at it" then decide if they can do it or reschedule. I called and scheduled an appointment 3 weeks ago after moving into a new home and finding that there was major issues with active leaks in the crawl space - requested for someone to come out and repair ASAP unable to use water or toilet in two bathrooms. They put me on a "cancellation list" to come out sooner if available. After waiting for weeks, they called in the afternoon the date they were supposed to come out and told me they needed to reschedule for 5 days later. Extremely unprofessional. I was clear when making the appointment that we could not use two of the bathrooms and there were constant leaks which apparently had been going on for a long time and rotted the floor. We just moved to the area and was duped by their "good reviews". We have 1 toilet downstairs that overflows and does not drain like it should. It even bubbles when another drain is clearing. When we moved in, we had to have squirrels evicted from the attic, so we figured the vent pipe was clogged. The person who came out refused to even check the vent line because he said"I've seen this problem countless times and it's never the vent pipe" He instead pulled the toilet and checked the plumbing under the house. He quoted us over $4k to redo all the plumbing to " fix the issue" We requested a second opinion and they sent another person out who told us the same thing. I instructed them to at least check the vent pipe. They sent a guy into the attic as there was no visible vent pipe from the outside. He said that he found them in the attic and there were no issues and they were vented to the chimney. They again refused to actually check the vent lines. I had another company complete the plumbing as specified by these guys and the issues still persisted. I myself climbed into the attic only to find 0 vent lines in the attic. These guys are conartists and only want to charge you massive amounts of money on fictional problems. We fixed the plumbing under the house because we trusted their experience, but we were taken. The rating is due solely to not honoring their Satisfaction Clause and their despicable response to my request to come back out. The person who answered my call responded back to me with 'It is not our fault because our analysis of your home showed that the water pressure was too high - 90psi and we will charge you $90 to come back out to look at the problem'. What Deceit! What Garbage! Background: I own and run a company of 80 employees and do not have the time to work on electrical, plumbing, building things etc, like I used to. I call contractors. I used to do my own plumbing and still have my old tanks, flaring tools etc. I have two kitchens with the same identical dishwasher and fridge models, plus 4 bathrooms and many other fixtures. In all of 12 years of '90psi' operation, there were no 'TOO HIGH PRESSURE' issues. One faucet, purchased at Big John Close-Out is the only faucet I have ever had any issues and was not a problem to fix. Point is - I am not an idiot and I do NOT take kindly to someone handing me a line of bunk. about 'pressure'. I work with formulas to calculate pressure in my normal line of work. Steve Huff Plumbing was called out to my home to change out the filters in the Whole-Home Filter system because the last time they did this same function, they over-tightened the bulb too much and I could not easily (even with the use of an extension bar) remove them myself without pipes bending. While asking them out to take care of a problem that THEY created the last time they were out, I also asked them to check the copper water pipe connecting my upstairs dishwasher. Something had leaked and I had to shut the supply off to that dishwasher weeks before. They replaced the copper pipe with a 'flexible' water line. They told me that they turned on the water supply and noticed no leaks and asked if I wanted to check it - I replied 'no' - I had to get back to my work. After all, they already stated they saw no leaks. I went upstairs later that morning and ran the washer. Hours later, I came back to a huge, enormous puddle. My son discovered that a plastic shut off valve, a part on the dishwasher and that also connected directly to the water line, had cracked - this was the original fault. I am not implicating SHP to cracking the part. It was never the water supply line! My son ordered a $20 dishwasher part online, replaced it - ran the washer many times since - problem solved. I was charged a replacement fee for a line that was never needed - again, mistakes made, I am not angry about the mistakes. I am angry that they obviously did NOT check for leaks before or after installing the new line because the washer part the line connected too was the fault and it was already cracked from weeks before. I am angry that the imbecile who answered my phone call argued with me that it was the 'water pressure' at fault. I am angry that SHP would not honor their 'Satisfaction Guaranteed policy' when it was CLEARLY THEIR fault for not even reviewing their own damn work! I paid $252.28 on Sept.10.2021. I will not try to collect this back - keep it. As for the MANY hours again spent mopping up the mess, the many hours spent fixing the problem that, at the very least, their incompetent staff could not even so much as diagnose (no -I do not expect them to repair my dishwasher, I expect them to tell me where the leak came from). Pretty much the same comments as most others here. The work and plumbers are above grade but, despite a long explanation of why they are so expensive by the plumber, no amount of words or services could explain away the completely outrageous pricing or the stress they put on up-selling services and extended warranties. I needed the work done and they had me over a barrel, but I've learned my lesson. Even by deducting the never before seen price he said the water heater cost, their labor charges came out at approximately $300+ an hour. I say "approximately," because he only presents a total change quote, instead of a detailed breakdown of the charges. Finally, after ripping me off for hundreds of dollars, the plumber made a show of leaving me with a complimentary pen, a refrigerator magnet, a magnetic shopping list pad, a post-it note pad, all with their name and contact number on them. Ran a snake down a clean out plug in a 2" line for a slow drain. Took less than 1 hour, no parts. Charged $300 which was way over priced. Would not recommend. While here, I got a quote for a leaky bath tub faucet just for curiosity sake. Quoted it for $925.00. I just about laughed out loud. I repaired and rebuilt the entire tub's faucets myself in a couple of hours for less than $17 in parts and a $15 dollar tool. read more

What crooks!!! They charged $404.64 per studor vent to install. They charged $107.64 to install P-traps each. And worst of all repaired a 1/2" water line that was leaking very slowly at the elbow between open beams in the basement and charged $546.57 for that. Add in the service fee of $129 and I had a grand total of $2724.69. Stay clear of the these crooks unless you like flushing money down the drain. read more

However, the cost of a recent, simple repair job was beyond expensive; it was outrageous! Less than $20 in parts and 20 min in labor was $300. As a longtime customer, I wanted to give them a chance to make it right. I talked with their manager about my concerns. No offer to adjust the bill, no offer to give a partial credit toward future business, just thanked me for my many years of patronage. Steve Huff Plumbing is pretty good for plumbers. They advertise working week-ends and after hours for the same price as 9-5 people. And they do! The woman that answers the phone is polite and professional. The only problem I ever had (and I use them all the time -I have rentals) is one time the plumber came out and smoked like a chimney. Not in my house, but in my driveway (threw his butt on my lawn) and smelled up my house with smoke smell. But I told the company about it and he doesn't service my properties anymore. read more

Everything from our initial phone call through the service was polite, timely, respectful, and reasonable. The plumber showed up on time, was great about explaining the issue to me and even called the manufacturer to order replacement parts at no cost to me. Bad experience. While Matt was very courteous, the price was outrageous to change out a bathroom faucet at $627.00 and some change. I can pay 2 winter heating bills for that amount. So I declined. We had a slow pencil thread amount of water coming out the hot water side. He declared the faucet was bad. So I purchased a new faucet and installed it. Guess what, problem was still there. It was the follow up call that really took the cake. The twit from Huff's office asked it everything went ok and I explained what I had done and the problem remained. Her response was "I guess we'll never know because it wasn't installed by a professional". That blew it for me. It isn't rocket science folks, contrary to what would Huff have you believe. I do believe I have installed more water heaters, kitchen and bathroom faucets, and irrigation systems that some receptionist in his office. This was far and above not my first rodeo. read more

In my experience (3 times), they do excellent work and are very professional. But their prices are at least 50% more than other reputable plumbers, and sometimes a lot more than that--e.g., $1950 to replace a water heater, when a later quote from another plumbing company for the same heater was $1250. Estimated $690 to replace a possibly malfunctioning pressure regulator valve; I got the job done for $150. Repaired pinhole leak in pex pipe for $425--took about an hour. There are bells and whistles that add to the cost, such as texting photos and info on the technician, and they do arrive on time with an "on-the-way" heads-up call; but these aren't nearly worth the high cost. Their "10-point inspection" is mainly geared to finding mostly unimportant things, working fine, that they recommend you fix--at a high estimated cost. They seem to target an affluent clientele who don't know much or care about cost. My previous plumber had just retired and I didn't have a backup, and these jobs were emergencies.
