Course was in very good shape. New GPS range finders on the carts, except ours did not work. Restaurant staffers excellent/friendly as usual. Course employees courteous, Grounds keepers paused to let golfers play thru, Have to complain about not being able to cancel when it's cart path only, , We're a group of seniors, and some of us cannot play cart path only, We understand that rain happens, and it's important to protect the course, but it was a surprise when Hughes Creek said credit cards would be charged for our guys that could not play, This is the first time we've encountered a course policy where golfers cannot cancel when carts are restricted , If that is going to be the case, I cannot recommend playing here if you need carts, read more

Service was excellent, starters were cool, but extremely disappointed because despite all the rain we've had in the last month or two the course wasn't being taken care of. I don't think they're puting any money into it. The sand traps are like hitting out of concrete. Its really disappointing . Its been eight years since I've played here, and this is nothing like the way I remember it used to be. You're charging 52 bucks a round during the week and, they should be spending more money into doing maintenance at this place. Lots of patches, and various holes, where there's bald spots and ground under repair, that needs to be fixed.. Putting greens could be better. Layout is nice but always was. Just need to " Feed your Lawn!" Along with fixing the traps ... and upgrade your golf carts. Clearly they are on their last legs. Very slow. read more

Unbelievably disappointing!!! Overpriced for extremely poor course conditions. It's like they gave up on maintaining or caring for greens, tee boxes, or even the cart paths. The surface of the moon has less craters than the tee boxes. My golf ball look like a game of plinko from hitting all the divots on the greens. I know rocky country roads in better conditions than the cart paths. Make sure to bring a back brace. I didn't see the food cart once. The ranger lied and said there were multiple complaints about our group on pace but the group behind us couldn't catch up. The carnival funhouse bridge is more level than their tee boxes. I would've donated my overpriced green fee to buy them sand for the carts to tee boxes and fairway divots. For the first Saturday in August, you'd think the greens and fairways would've been mowed. The worst management I have ever seen. Me and my friends had booked a 4some and the guy running the tee times had booked a solo to play with us. I had gotten there 2 minutes before my tee times. The solo and my three friends had already checked in. When I tried to check in the man wouldn't let me out because there were already four people checked in for that tee time. You have got to be dumb as a fucking rock to pair a solo with a 4some knowing that you can't have more than four people out there at once. Un fucking believable. read more

The course is beautiful but it's in absolutely horrible shape. It also has 10 minutes between tee times so you are constantly on the tails of the people in front of you and being run on by the people behind you. For the price you pay, you'd think they would keep it in better condition. Play somewhere else. read more

Extremely inconsiderate and callous. My 85 year old father-in-law asked to follow his 14 year olds granddaughter during her golf tournament on a Thursday at 4pm and they refused to let him ride in a cart to follow her. I've heard nothing but criticism about the new management, and it appears to be true. Let me start out by saying I like the golf course, I think it's laid out well and for a novice golfer it is a little challenging and fun. Now for my review. I have been golfing there every week for about three years about 27-36 holes a week. In the past the staff was very nice welcoming and flexible and I felt that they were happy I was there and they appreciated my business. Golfing there was also affordable for the average person, especially when using a golf app, that also included some discount codes. You can say By By to all that with the new management, last time I was I didn't feel welcome at all. I didn't feel that they appreciated out business because we booked out tee time through a golf app. His comment was we don't get any money from this booking from a golf app ? We arrived about 40 minutes early and there were had a lot of open time times before our time time but refused to let us early because we booked our time time on a golf app. This made no sense to us because there were no golfers going out or waiting to go out the 1st tee was empty. On top of all that the prices went up about 25% to 30% and the discounts are now limited. I know this company runs Tanna Farms & Settler's Hill so I guess they think they have a monopoly for that area so they can charge what they want and be rude. Thanks for nothing read more

Decent course with its pros and cons. Here is my take on it: Driving Range: Nope Putting Green: Nice. Decent size, in good shape. Gives you a good idea what to expect out on the course. Course: I love the first hole. Nothing better than ripping driver off the tee into a fairway that's 30-40yds below you and watching the ball roll to the front of the green (or on if you are lucky!). Course has a couple of areas of big elevation changes. 1, 9, 12, 18 all come to mind quickly. Pretty open course that I think is best suited for the average golfer than the advanced golfer. I don't remember there being GPS on the carts, so know how to figure yardages. Water coolers were available. Pace of play is slow though. Expect 4.5-5 hours to play 18. Rarely do I see a ranger on the course and when I do and say something about it, I get the standard response "well, that's typical". No, it's not. Staff: All in all, I think the staff is pretty nice. I think the indifferent attitude they take on being able to change things is a cause of concern, but it hasn't kept me from the course. Yet. Price is decent, you can usually get on for roughly $30. Overall: Definitely a second-tier course in the area. Many other choices that are better to play, but it has its place. I think this would be a great place to take a teenager or younger child to learn how to play. read more

New owner and operations couldn't run a lemonade stand. Over the top rude and disrespectful people here. New rates are a joke and the way Hughes plays does not justify this cost. They shut down the restaurant because they can hardly run the golf course. We played 9 and asked for Rain check to finish last nine. Course was in shambles couldn't find a golf ball grass was so long. Weeds along path and long grass around WHITE marker steaks. I complained and asked for a rain check on back nine they denied my refund and and a rain check. Don't even think to give your hard earned money to these people. read more

Very wide open course, great for a novice to work on his or her game. Well maintained. Great view from the 19th hole.

I would give this course negative stars, a partial star, or zero stars if any of them were possible. I played this course because I had a Groupon to ride for $14. I paid at least $15 too much. This course is NOT well maintained. I wasted more time looking for my ball than I did actually hitting it, because when you watch it land in the fairway and bounce into the rough, it becomes an "abandon all hope ye who enter here" moment. Rough can be tough to hit out of, since that's part of the game, but you should still be able to FIND your ball. I lost a dozen balls on that course and at least half of those were to the rough. Out of bounds or water I can deal with. In the rough next to the fairway somewhere I can't deal with. Then there's this matter of my hitting a beautiful shot onto the green and when I got up there my ball had mysteriously vanished. This course absolutely punishes you even when you hit a good shot. It's not worth the money I paid and keep in mind that my cost to play was only 1/3 of the normal cost because of the Groupon. If you gave me enough money to pay off the U.S. national debt I still wouldn't go back. read more

I have never experienced more rude employees on multiple occasions. I had a starter throw my credit card and the golf cart at me because it was 5:00 PM and I wanted to hit nine. I guess he wanted to go home but as far as I know it still stays light Until 8:30. This man was so rude he should have been fired on the spot! I was off the course at 6:20. Had other instances similar before. I live in Elburn and will never go back! No wonder why golf has taken a hit in popularity Do yourselves a favor there are many other courses that welcome you business at any time, don't go here! read more

I play Hughes Creek in a weekly league during the summer so I'm quite familiar with it. The course was build on farmland with a minimum investment by the original builder. Nothing was brought in, (sand, peat, etc) to soften the rich bottomland it sits on so in periods of dry weather it becomes quite hard. During a normal year the fairways are in decent shape. You won't find bare spots away from cart paths. Greens are mostly decent size, run true, and typically in decent shape though they can be frustratingly hard, not holding a long iron many times. If you're looking for a terrific golf experience you'll be diappointed. This is a park district owned course so you'll not find luxury there. If you're looking to get in 18, at a place the average golfer has a change of scoring well at, for a minimal investment this is your place. read more

You know, I do like this course, but the issues it has really takes away from the enjoyment of it. Rocks on the green... bad. If you're going to sand the greens, use sand that doesn't have rocks in it. Once the sand disappears, all those little rocks stay behind, so that every hole's greens now has tiny rocks everywhere. Hard to put through those suckers. Normally I like a "ranger-free" round - but come on, if you're going to let a four-some of under 12-years-of-age-boys out on their own to golf, you really need to have someone to push them along and make sure they're not disturbing other golfers. Front nine is low, so when it rains, expect standing water. Back nine is higher ground and flooding is not that much of an issue. And what is up with the concrete port-o-potties? Has the county not heard of the wonderful invention of running water? No GPS. A few blind shots here and there. Not too many pesky trees to get in the way. Rough can be thick though. Play can be slow here - I would *never* again attempt to play here on a weekend. I have in the past spent over 5 1/2 hours on this course and have learned to avoid even thinking about playing here then. Bar personnel - quick, cheery and polite. Mr. Proshop young-man-doing-this-as-a-summer-job - polite and efficient, so kudos for that. Price was right on a weekday at $30, which includes cart. Like I said - I do like the course, but it could be a more enjoyable place to play. read more
