I enjoy going to HuHot as everyone can get what they like. Mongolian is a great way to bring different people. As stated from others, the lines are a bit outrageous however. We did not get there until 1:30 thinking the business lunchers would be gone... the line to have our food cooked was about 15 or more people. That really takes more time than I would consider "allowable" for an enjoyable lunch. I also found that even after putting more than enough of the sauces in the bowl that I had to supplement with soy sauce and chili sauce. That made everything feel a little mediocre. I would have liked a little more punch to the flavors and sauces... you cant just "put more on it" and have the flavors come out... the sauces just burn off. Service was adequate. Overall I just had a mediocre "meh" feeling for the place. read more

Tried this place for lunch. I didn't think it would be so busy. It is good food with a good selection of items to put in your bowl. An especially good selection of sauces. My was over left on the grill a little too long because there were so many people. The keep the muscles in the shell which caused broken shell bits in my food. What a great place! My wife and I went in on a Friday night expecting a long wait. We got there and there was a long line, but with just 2 of us, we were at a table in 5 minutes! My wife is gluten and dairy intolerant, they made sure to take really good care of her by cleaning the grill of any trace of gluten and dairy. They had a very friendly staff and hard working crew. The only reason this is getting more than one star is for the overworked understaffed servers and cooks. They were trying their hardest to keep up. Beyond that the food was incredibly sub par for the price. The beef tasted like freezer burned steakums. For what is given the price should at least be $5 cheaper. The egg drop soup was incredibly salty and the wait for food from the cooks was 21 minutes. Management, hire more staff, make the food quality better or drop the price. It was one of the most disappointing meals from a restaurant I've ever had, and I've eaten at the Country Kitchen in Lampasas, TX. I don't understand how this location is best in State. read more

Visited last nite with my mom. We were told at the time of seating that they were out of beef, and no other beef would be available. Place was almost vacant in seating area, but there was a 12-15 min line at the grill for cooking food. When food was placed on grill it hardly seemed to sizzle, which tells me the grill was at too low a temp. The food did not get covered while on the grill to help cook the veggies as other Mongolian grill places do locally here in UT. Hot and Sour soup was luke warm when served at our table, another "not good" sign. Mom's shrimp was totally undercooked. Food handlers were seen touching ingredients without hand protection. When we arrived home, both of us immediately started having stomach issues and they lasted for several hours. Very uncomfortable feeling! I've only been to HuHot once, and I'm anxious to go back. There was a little bit of a wait while in-line to get the food cooked, but that was understandable due to it being a Friday night. The food was pretty good, but the execution was strange in my opinion. It's all-you-can-eat, which I've never seen before for Mongolian BBQ. This causes problems as it's pricier than other restaurants of a similar style ($15 a person) and then it causes a log jam as the lines can get long as people go up for seconds, etc. Beyond that, for some reason there's a wait staff, which means there's tips needed when they bring you water refills, rice and a salad, all of which are either unneeded or could be delivered at the food station. It seems like extra cost for no good reason. Would I return? Eh... likely not, unless I really wanted some Mongolian BBQ. read more

The non sanitary environment and cooking practices they used while we visited made it so I couldn't eat a fork full of my dinner. They cook on a big central oven top surface common in these places. A number of us had our food cooking while the two guys attending the food proceeded to scrape the grill sending burnt food shrapnel and liquids flying into our food. He didn't seem to care even though he clearly noticed. Additionally, all of the garbage would collect in a catch basin around the outside of the cooking area and they would use the same spatulas they cooked the food on to scrape that food slip that had been sitting who knows how long down the garbage chute and then right back to flipping your food with that same spatula. I have honestly never seen anything like it. They then clean the food stuck on to the spatula by scraping it on the edge of the basin where slop all collects. The whole cooking area was simply awful, floors dirty, and clearly hadn't been cleaned since they opened that morning. The cooks were slipping all around the floor while moving. I was disgusted and I've eaten in some places that make a normal person cringe. The food might have been good but I couldn't get past what my eyes saw to try it. No way I would recommend this place without significant changes. read more

I have been here before. TURN BACK THE CLOCK!!! Dirty with grill cooks that were outright loud, obnoxious and silly. The mess around the grill and on the floor, atrocious. They are going to make someone very ill My cooked chicken was raw. The soft drinks that we were told were included in the meal . . . $3 x 2 The desert that was a courtesy "because it is your birthday" . . . .$8 All told it was a $40 dinner for a really really really bad experience. The health department needs to shut this place down The management needs to be court martialed for the poor service, and mis-information that lets their employees rip off customers. Huhot has been one of my favorite Mongolian grills for quite awhile and needless to say I was quite disappointed in this trip. We had family from out of town and decided to meet here to discuss family business over a nice meal. The restaurant was pretty busy and there was only one or two servers. Needless to say service was excruciatingly slow. I really felt bad for our server. The restaurant was a terrible mess. The line to get your food before the grill was an absolute mess! There as food everywhere and with the shortage of servers it didn't seen there was anyone to clean up or straighten up. Being in the food service business as I have for 35 years I sometimes look at things a little more critically as some but tonight I honestly was so shocked at the condition of the restaurant. As we got to the grill I noticed it had been quite awhile since the had cleaned the grill. When m daughter, a vegetarian, got to the grill and handcuffed her food to be cooked she told him it was vegetarian and he proceeded to put her food in the middle of the grill, still uncleaned. We left and went back through to get a new plate for her. This time through i pointed out that she needed her vegetarian meal cooked in a cleaned area of the grill. I also asked if he could clean the grill before cooking my meal. After grumbling and muttering under his breath he cooked my meal. I really hope that this experience was a fluke and not the beginning of how things are going for huhot. It will be a while before I go back. read more

I have been to many so-called "Mongolian-style" restaurants around the country and this is, by far, the worst. The selection of options is not bad and sauce variety is great! However, the preparation is deplorable. The cooking stone is not seasoned at all and the cooking method is scary. Once you take your bowl to the stone, if is has been cleaned, they dump your bowl out in a manner that spreads everything toward the center, leaving all of your sauces boiling away from your food. They might stir your food once or twice as everything boils away, leaving none of your custom flavoring in your food. Then, your food just sits on the unseasoned stone, cooking into a stuck-on amalgamation. When you finally do get your food, it has been scraped off the stone and you get the burned and overcooked stuff and half of your noodles. Outside of eating here last night, my greatest regret is not capturing pictures of this ugliness to share with the world. Advice to management: Season your stone. Train your people. Sit back and watch what is really happening and ask yourself if you would eat your own food. It was not good. read more

What a great find. I love Mongolian BBQ, and these guys do it right! Huge selection of veggies, amazing sauces, all you can eat! So many vegan options, and plenty of meat for the carnivores. Trying to find decent "Mongolian" food cooked on the walk properly is a hard find here in Salt Lake. Getting your food together is the easy part, the part that's depressing is hearing the cooks how miserable they are with their job. Instead of paying attention and cooking the food properly they end up over cooking your food. Not a big fan of crunchy noodles off the walk grill. My last visit on 5/13/17 made my son vomit up his food when we got home. We will not be visiting for a while. It's too bad. read more

My wife and I had late lunch today at HuHot. It's Sunday, 2pm and yet pretty decent number of diners. It's my wife's second visit, my first. I love the open concept place. It's very spacious and pleasant looking. The food is great and I really love the sauce combinations. I used the recommended measurements as my base then added other sauces. Turned out still very tasteful. Service is great. I do have two inputs, first the handles of the sauce ladles are longer than needed and I always hit the glass cover every time I pour my sauces onto my plates. Second, the bowl could be made a little bigger or have another price range for one that's bigger. Overall, I'm delighted with the service, food and place. We'll definitely be back! read more

This place is pretty Awesome as far as Mongolian grills go. I loved the selection of sauces from mild to hot tangy to sweet and they have recipe cards to help you out. The meats are frozen when the staff puts them on the grill. This is not exactly a recipe for culinary success.

This place is disgusting. The food tastes terrible and the restaurant is filthy. Do not eat here. I feel violated after eating here.

If you have the time and patience then this is a place to try. They have many choices for meat and great amount for the vegetables section. They area where you pick the sauce for your creation can be intimidating for first timer but grab a recipe card to guide you. Now comes the part where you have to wait for your meat to cook. Sometimes it take a while to get through this process. It a traffic jam for food. After you get though that then you get to eat your creation and hopefully you did a good job. If not then you will have to repeat the whole process. So this lunch and dinner is going to take time. If you are an engineer or some type of organizer then this is a great place to practice your trade. You have to try to get as much in your bowl to make the process worth while. If you do not then you will eat your food quickly and have to start again. The other part is remembering what you did once you find that recipe you created. Let me start out by saying that my wife and I LOVE HuHot (see my review of a HuHot in Des Moines). We were so looking forward to taking our family here because we had talked it up so much over the last 5-7 years. We even called our family in Des Moines to give them the good news that we finally have one in Utah. Well, as you can see from the rating, all of us were disappointed. The only reason I didn't give it one star is because I know it can be so much better and they have the awesome drink selection. I don't know where to start because so many things went wrong last Saturday night we were in there. First Issue - not a big one, but one that could easily be corrected. The person that shows you to your table should do more than just place a stack of napkins and forks on the table and walk away. If you have to wait for a seat (when half the place is full) the least they could do is set out the place settings - I don't really understand what they are being paid to do if that is all they are trained to do. We could have easily found and open table and grabbed napkins or forks from central location. Also, for a group of 7, it would be great to get more than one food menu and more than one drink menu. Yes, I know, "if you would have only asked we would have brought you more" but you know what, this is the type of thing you shouldn't have to ask for. Second Issue - a huge one, better trained staff (cooks, waiters, line staff, etc.) There should be one, if not two people, dedicated to the food area to ensure it is stocked properly, try to manage food cross-contamination and make sure the area is as clean as it can be, the sauce section included. This should be all that they do and are concerned about. This should be something that someone with a little focus and dedication can manage. If they don't or can't, find something that will. Yes, there were many selections that were either out or were so badly mixed up with other food items that we chose not to get that topping/item because we didn't want what else was in there. The cooks. One in particular, need some serious customer service training. I was in line and of course those that are waiting for their food need to move around the grill to get your food on the other side. We'll this cook kept yelling (yes, yelling - on a side note the other cooks knew how to communicate to customers but this guy did not) at the line to move down. We were moving and he kept yelling. I spoke up and said that we were moving and his response was a typical snide middle school type of response trying to mock me in front of everyone. Everyone in the line looked around like, did he really just do that? I was irritated along with everyone else so I took out my phone can snapped a picture to help with this review. Sure keep this guy on, I'm sure he can take food off a grill like no one's business but he really shouldn't be in the food or any service business if he treats customers like that. While I would never say to fire the person, I can almost guarantee you that if this isn't addressed and taken care of he will give you more problems than he's worth. In my customer service business, I can tell you he would have been fired on the spot, no warnings, no questions asked because you never ever talk to a customer that way. I did speak to the manager about this (all I can assume is that it was Michael that responds to these reviews) but don't know if anything ever happened or if it's being taken care of. The waiters. I won't name him here but our waiter, a really nice guy, really shouldn't be waiting tables. We waited for 50 minutes just to get Mac n Cheese, KRAFT Mac n Cheese, for my son. After bringing it up with him and then also letting the manager know when he came by to check on us, it was finally delivered after a few more minutes. Also, a simple "sorry for the wait" or "our apologies it took so long" etc. would be been nice as well from either the waiter or the manager but that didn't happen. Six others in our party had already gone through the line, eaten their first dish and were in line for seconds by the time the Mac n Cheese came out. Also, the salads that come with the meal also took 50+ minutes to make to our table. That is just unacceptable. And that's not all, our waiter (again, he's a really nice guy) started to talk to us as we asked for the check. He started to talk about how he would never eat anything in here. I couldn't believe it. My dad grabbed my arm in disbelief as our waiter said "if you held a gun to my head I wouldn't eat anything over there (pointing to the food are)"....not once...but twice he repeated this!! I still can't believe it as I write it. I wish I would have pulled out my phone and recorded it because we were amazingly shocked. Michael E, if you're the manager, I'm sure you'll read this and if you recall I did bring several of these items up with you. I hope you make the necessary adjustments. read more

This is a great place for a party, a date or casual dinner with friends. There are literally hundreds of combinations at the buffet Mongolian grill of meat, veggies, noodles and sauces. And there are more than 100 beverages available (I had the raspberry Sprite Zero). The recipe cards before you step up to the grill help you to find fun combinations that honor dietary preferences or restrictions. Being a gluten-free gal, I appreciated the amazing array of options for gluten-free eaters as well as the very conscientious grill staff, who cooks allergy combos separately and safe from cross contamination. I came here for a work Christmas party, and it was my first time ever to a HuHot. The place was full of families with young kids, running all over the place and very loud and busy. The food was okay, but definitely just processed and cheap buffet-style quality. I actually enjoyed my appetizers more than the actual bowl. I probably won't be back, but the two stars are for the staff and their ability to handle large groups of people and maintain a positive demeanor. read more

This restaurant is perfect if you have been thinking to yourself "I like Stir-fry but, don't like getting my food SO fast. If only there where a way to make a basic noodle meal take 90 min..." As a bonus- you get to hear the cooks talk about how well people are tipping and ignore you, until there is a normal amount of space between people and then one of them will bellow "ONCE AGAIN, everyone please move all the way around yo the right." Chill dude. Half your grill is empty, and there are half a dozen bowls sitting on the wall waiting. You get to be annoyed we aren't crowded elbow to elbow when that grill is running efficiently enough for it to matter. Waitress who is in charge of drinks and the check was pretty hard to find too. Food is good if you make it right, but seriously just don't go on the weekend. read more
