Not as good as I thought it would be. Waited 15 mins to be seated and my husband and I were the only ones waiting. We saw plenty of seats but was told we had to wait. Then when we did get our table we went to get our food and it was one bowl at a time which was fine but they didn't have a lot of meat available and the noodles were all gone, so that was another 10 mins. We usually enjoy coming here, but tonight the place was a mess. Our waiter must have doubled as a cook, because he had half a dinner on his clothing and shoes. The buffet area was filthy, with food from some trays spilled and mixed into others. Sauces were full of floating particles of food. Even the grill area was a mess. HuHot has a good environment for a fun night out with the interactive dining and cool style, but I'm afraid that is about all it has going for it. I have been to this location several times because our friends LOVE it, I give it my best chance every time, but always leave disappointed. The service is okay. I have never had terrible service and never had great service. I do love the drink menu and how you can mix and match any coke product with a variety of different flavor add-ins. My husband and two year old son are great fans of the egg drop soup. I have one major complaint about this place, which I am surprised has not been brought up in more of the reviews. It doesn't matter WHAT sauce you put in your bowl, or how much, or whether it tastes good or not, because without fail it will get boiled off once put on the grill and you will be left with dry, clumpy noodles. I do not understand why the cooks aren't trained better to actually MIX the sauce in with the rest of the dish as soon as it hits the grill. They are always in such a hurry that they just dump your bowl on the grill and leave it. All of the sauce just runs all over the place and then sizzles into nothing, and then they decide to mix it when the sauce is all gone. I find it very annoying. I have even added nothing but sauce and a little bit of noodles to my bowl, to the point where it was like a soup, and my noodles still ended up dry because the cooks at the grill did not care about their job enough to do a little mixing. The other thing that really bothers me about this place is the cleanliness. Especially on a crowded night, you are waiting in this huge line with a little countertop in front of you where countless other bowls have dripped. You basically drag your bowl across a sticky, saucy surface and there is no way cross contamination isn't happening every which way. This is scary to me as the meat in the bowl is not yet cooked, so all the sauce that is getting over every one and every thing could be extremely unsanitary. They do have wipes at the cooking station when you hand off your bowl, but I have found the napkin compartment to be empty more often than not. They don't put salt on your table, you have to go to the "community condiments" station where there are only a few bottles of sriracha and salt that are to be left at the station. The main part of this restaurant that is lacking terribly is the grill. The cooks need to be properly trained, invested in their job, and better groomed to keep their hair/bracelets/whatever completely clear of the food. It is also quite disturbing to see them scrape a pile of leftover scraps from several different bowls and just scoop it into this "trough" that seemingly never gets emptied until closing time. I can tolerate eating here, but it is not something I would choose if our friends were not in love with the place. read more

The egg rolls were tasty. The pasta...not so much. The cook had dirty hands when he took my food. Then, when he poured it on the grill, he never really mixed the food causing the sauces to burn off without infusing into my noodles. This also caused the chicken to scorch on one side. Sorry HuHot. I like the idea of your restaurant. And previously I've had good experiences. But last night February 13th 2018 was not one of them. The server was friendly. The hostess was friendly. But the filth of your restaurant made it impossible to enjoy my meal. When we arrived many of the containers for food were nearly empty. After pointing this out to the hostess, they refilled most of them. Some were not refilled. I expect some items getting into other containers as people dish up but many of the containers were just a combination of everything around them. And you had to be careful not too lean on the counter because it was so dirty. When you got to the sauces counter it was in dire need of a wipe down. It was difficult to reach over to get the sauces without touching the filthy, messy counter. The two guys cooking last night did not keep their counter clean either. I was not impressed by their cooking skills. The food was not chopped and turned and mixed well. Continuing to the last section where you can put on toppings, the floor was filthy from all of the spills and it remained that way the whole time we were there. While I like to make my own dish and have it cooked on the Mongolian Grill, I don't know that I'll be going back very soon if at all. Too messy/dirty for me to feel comfortable there. read more

After my kids begging to go to the HuHot I finally broke down and took them. Big mistake! The food was mediocre, the bowls you pack your food in were way to small and the facility was a mess! Besides the food in the displays being mixed up, their sauces all over, their floor was so sticky that when I left my shoes were sticking to the sidewalk. Plus... it really didn't help when our server had no personality. She was just there not really wanting to provide any service. i will have to say it took a while to go back. we were actually contacted by the owner of the company Michael after our review and i will say he is a smart businessman. good job Michael. it is because of your service that we returned. we went back in april and the service was a complete turnaround!!! there was not a gaggle of teenage girls chatting and goofing off, they were gone, but the employees that WERE there were VERY professional and helpful. FOOD POISONING! I can not believe how terrible our experience was at this establishment. We figured since it was crowded it would be "safe" as far as not getting sick is concerned. I was WRONG! I have been throwing up for 3 hours ever since I got home. I should have known within the first 5 minutes of being here I should get out. My first bite was the most putrid rotten thing I had ever eaten in my life! I spit it out immediately and it took all my strength not to vomit. Our server noticed and came over to ask, "how does everything taste?" I told her the item was rotten and she should take it off the line immediately! She took my plate and apologized. After that she avoided us completely. My bf said his tasted ok, nothing great but not rotten at the very least. It is absolutely filthy. Food all over the floors, food and liquids on ever imaginable surface. There were sauces all over the counter tops and floors. I leaned against the wall while waiting for the teens at the grill to" cook" our food and my jacket got completely soaked in soy garlic sauce. Cross contamination everywhere. The guys at the grill were wiping the spatulas on their jeans! The grill top itself was absolutely filthy! They made jokes about giving people medium rare chicken cause it had.more flavor. This place is a disaster and I would never ever suggest this place to anyone except my enemies and I would never come back. Our server told the manager my experience and he briefly walked over while asking all the other tables at the same time, "everything ok over here folks? Everything ok over here folks?" Not even stopping for a response. I kept rinsing my mouth out and I was in the middle of spitting the water out of my mouth when he walked by quickly stating...not asking, "everything's ok over here folks" zoooom bye... I'm from out of state and only visit Utah a few times a year and try to visit here when in town. I rated 5 stars the last time and I give it 5 stars again on my visit last week. I don't understand the negative reviews. The buffet area was always clean, the grill was always clean, the waitress was a delight, and the griller wasn't sweating as one person said. Yes, the sauce does run down into the center of the grill if you add too much (which you should do) but not one of my four trips to the grill ended up burnt or overcooked. Maybe the management has read the Yelp reviews and changed things. If people are turned off by watching their food get cooked then they should never eat out because you should see what goes on behind the closed curtain in most restaurants. First time eating here and loved it. The concept was really fun and the prices are great too. It was our cheat meal so I didn't care but I'll go back during the week and still be able to stick to my whole30 diet. The topping options are great and they kept the buffet area pretty clean. We got the mixed appetizer with egg rolls, Wong tongs, and crab things. It took a while for them to come out. The server said the cook is slow back there. The sweet and sour sauce that came with it was amazing. They didn't give enough so we asked for more and she never brought it. We gave up asking since oir swrver disappeared. The all you can eat and watching them cook it was great. Service was ok. Our waitress disappeared for a long time and we had to get up and ask a different server for drink refills and our check. i never even knew this place existed until we got a mailer sent to us. we decided to try it out on a friday night and it was not a very good experience. first off there's always a long line to put food in your bowl and then have it grilled. they need more grills and a more effective line. it loops around in an odd way and people are confused on where to stand. second they had a wedding party come in about 15 minutes after we arrived - over 100 people! if they're going to take such a large reservation they should close the whole restaurant done or have a separate grill for them. the line became ridiculous and the restaurant should have been better prepared. however i will say that all the staff was very friendly, and i was very impressed with that given how busy they were. the exception was one of the staff members on the grill. i said i was gluten free and the girl said to hold on. she told another staff member and he said, in a very irritated tone of voice, "i don't have time for this." i'm sorry, but it is not my fault that your restaurant overbooked itself. i hate being a difficult customer, but i am still a customer and your hostess assured me that you can accommodate gluten free guests. i realize that they were overworked and we all have those moments of frustration, but it's not professional to say things like that out loud where your customer can hear you. it didn't make me feel welcome and made my dining experience end on a very negative note. the food itself was average. i filled my bowl with beef, mushrooms, onions, and different sauces. their sauce selection was huge and it was fun to try different varieties. the best was their most popular sauce - the one with coconut milk and peanuts in it. they do have an allergy sheet they can give you so you can see which sauces you can eat so that was helpful. we also had the egg drop soup, which was included, and it was so disgusting. we both took a spoonful and shoved that bowl to the side. it lacked flavor and was too runny. i'd avoid their soup and try their salads instead. overall average food that wasn't horrible. however it wasn't good enough that i would want to come back. read more

Just...no. This place does not know how to handle a large group at separate tables. People at booths were definitely getting more attention. To compound matters, we were told that the white rice would be ready in ten minutes, we waited, thirty minutes into that, we ask again and the rice is another twenty minutes from being done (spoiler alert, we don't get the rice). Servers are overwhelmed and understaffed, the egg soup is mostly corn starch. The IHOP next door would have been a better choice. At least, I'm fairly certain you wouldn't leave the place wet in a hurried drink refill. read more

The food is really good, service has always been just right for my liking, and typically will have a chance to talk with the Manager who is always walking around. To wait in such ridiculously long lines, the food would have to be way better than what I could get at a normal restaurant (you know, sit down, waitress comes, takes my order, brings me the food). A group of 7 of us, from work, got there about 11:30, made it through the line in fairly good time. Nothing to complain about. But, by the time we were ready for a second trip through the grill line, it was so long that, those who did decide to make the trip through, it literally took 20 minutes. And, you will need two trips through the line because the one small bowl limit per trip gives you so little food on the first trip through, a second is required ... if you want to actually get your $10 worth. Ludicrous business model. Can't imagine that people voluntary subject themselves to such an experience twice, unless they miss the DMV lines of old. read more

I had such high hopes. Looks like a great concept as far as the marketing and set up but the execution is very disappointing. First, we weren't even greeted when we walked in, just led to our table. I was suddenly overcome with a chuck-a-Rama feel as I was surrounded by dirty tables...actually chuck-a-Rama is cleaner. We then headed to the bar to fill our bowls. There was food spilled all over the counter and floors, the sauces were a mess...dripped everywhere and I'm sure cross contaminated. Next, the grill...the counter around the grill was sticky and messy and there was food everywhere. Are you noticing a theme? Maybe they are short-staffed because clearly they were not staying on top of clean up. As we sat down to eat, we were surrounded by unbused tables. My meat was so over cooked it was like beef jerky and some of my noodles were burnt crispy. I am really hopeful that managers or owners read this because these are all issues that can be easily fixed. I'd like to give it another try but not a chance in its current condition. Absolutely the worst Mongolian Grill I have ever been to and I have been to two other Hu Hots before. Extremely slow service. They have the smallest bowls I have every seen at a Mongolian grill and they have signs everywhere saying not to do two bowls at once but you can barely put anything in the bowl so every 3-5 minutes you have to go up over and over again to get more. The cooks don't have a clue what they are doing and totally over cook the food so all the sauce is cooked away and the noodles on the bottom get crispy. It also makes for an extremely long line waiting for your food to cook because they cook it for so long. The sauces don't taste the same as the other HuHots that I've been to either. read more

Tonight was very delicious. All of the food was flawless. It's hard to critique them on the food though, because I compiled whatever food I wanted. What I can compliment them for is their awesome staff. They were all extremely friendly and helpful. The only flaw I had was the soup. I payed for it, but then hardly ate any of it because we immediately were told we could go to the grill. I feel like if we were to get the soup/ salad earlier, then go to the grill, I would feel like I actually got my money's worth. The soup/ salad was overshadowed by the delicious grill. This one is a bit dirty, the cooks don't know what they are doing, the grill was not the right temp to cook, and the wait staff inept even though the place was half empty. This restaurant was disappointing in several ways. The service was poor, as we got our soup when I almost had finished the main course. Our server said they had to make more soup. Possibly. The buffet line was messy and vegetables needed to be replenished. The pork had the texture of leather, but the beef was fine. We had to wait a while for our check and then for her to bring it back. I ordered a piece of cheesecake which cost $6.49 and was still frozen. I think it came from Costco and it was not a large piece. Definitely overpriced as were all the desserts for the type of restaurant it is. The restaurant was not very clean either as their was trash and food on the floor. I love Mongolian BBQ and was excited to try this place out. First disappointment was the service. We had never been to HuHot before and it would have been nice to have a better explanation of how things worked or what was included. We missed out on the awesome coke machine because we weren't notified that beverages were included, the waitress made it sound like they were additional and dinner itself was pricey enough. Service staff overall I think needs to be better trained in how to provide good customer service. I did like the Asian salad that came with the meal. The noodle and vegetable bars where you load up your bowl were a bit messy. You often get different vegetables mixed in with each other. It would work better if they were spread apart a bit. The bowls were too small and you need to overload it in order to get a full plate, which probably contributed to the messiness of things. We then had to wait in line for 10-15 minutes to have our food cooked. I have been to other Mongolian grill restaurants and don't recall ever waiting that long, even on a busy night. I wasn't a huge fan of the sauces. They felt really heavy to me, and to be fair, it could just have been the way I did the sauce, but I went twice and both times I was disappointed. I am currently sitting in a booth at HuHot on State Street and about 104th. I have been here before and understand how the restaurant works. This has been the most disgusting experience I've had. The food stations are a disgusting mess. Food bins are empty and many have bits and pieces of other foods in them. While I was in line, filling my bowl, I actually watched a little boy (about 6 years old) reach into the noodle container and grab a handful of cooked noodles with his hands instead of the tongs. The sauce station is caked with sauces and food is floating in most of the sauce containers. I walked to the hostess station and told her what I just wrote above and she asked if I wanted to talk to a manger. I honestly told her that I just wanted someone to clean it. She asked where I was sitting and that was that. No cleaning, no restocking the food, to attempt to make sure the children in the restaurant were being watched. In fact, in the time it took me to write this that same little boy went back for thirds with NO ADULT SUPERVISION. YUCK. read more
