I love Hui Lau Shan so much! This location is in MKT which is a cute shopping center with plenty of restaurants, cafes and cute stores to explore. The establishment brightly lit with cute decor. The cashier was friendly. Hui lau Shan never fails to have delicious, perfectly ripe mango, luscious coconut milk and sweet bursts of pomelo that add a wonderful textural element. The best thing is nothing is too sweet and you are able to get your dessert fix without feeling too guilty. My diagnosis: this is the place for amazing mango desserts! read more

(+) Held over decor from the previous tenant, which is bright and very open (+) The items are all very good, made with mango-themed everything with sago and pomelo, reminiscent of HK dessert spots (-) Prices are very steep. While I do enjoy the drinks and desserts, and the whole entire area is very popular, I personally cannot justify paying these prices. So if you've got money to spend on a sweet treat and it's not breaking the bank for you, then by all the means, this is the place for you. Fresh, hand-made mango drinks and desserts! A different type of dessert but very delicious and fresh. There's a lot of different drinks or bowl options. The toppings are very interesting. It reminds me of vietnamese dessert drinks (which I'm not a fan of), but it's much better! Nice service, cute interior. Will come again if I'm in the area! read more

What should I get for dessert in MKT? Hui Lau Shan has risen toward the top of the list ever since they've replaced the Yumcha. Their endless menu of everything mango-related has quite the appeal, even for those that don't go feral for mangos. If you've visited the Hui Lau Shan in Chinatown, you can expect similar quality and taste at this location. I'm not much of a sweet tooth so I typically order the mango yogurt. It balances out the sweetness and texture of the mango below. I like to mix the mango yogurt together, but drinking it as is tastes fine as well. Alternatively, the coconut jelly with mango can also suit people that prefer mild sweetness. My only gripe with this place involves the cleanliness. The floors could use a mop every once in a while. Also, I know we're nearing peak humidity in Houston right now but geez, the gnats absolutely swarmed the floor tiles near the door. A couple of gnat traps right outside the door should do the trick. read more

A great addition to MKT! As a mango lover myself, there are so many great options to satisfy your mango cravings. We came during the afternoon so there wasn't much of a wait although, the MKT parking lot is always packed. A decent amount of tables inside to sit at. I love the modern decor. The staff were friendly and quick with service. The menu has a variety of handmade drinks to their mango dessert bowls. The mango chewy ball and the pomelo and mango with sago are my favorites from the menu. What I like about their desserts is how light and sweet it is. The mango is always fresh and not too sweet. Their mango mochi is also good if you want something dry. I love the texture on the mochi. I've become a fan of Hui Lau Shan. Hope to see more locations open up. read more

We got the mango romance so we could try a little bit of everything. My favorite item was the mango mochi. It was so good I bought a 6 pack to go. The mochi is so soft and the mango is so fresh. If you like mango and desserts that aren't too sweet, this place is a winner. read more

It's got that modern decor with a steady stream of K-pop music vibes. Menu centers around mango in all its juicy glory, with a variety of dessert bowls and customizable drinks with topping add-ons. It's fruity and refreshing but can be on the sweet side for sure. Oh my goodness, this was really heaven on earth, especially if you are a mango freak! They had a variety of mango flavor, desserts, and I decided to go for the pomelo mango treat. I'm not sure why they served it to me in a cup and straw, when I had wanted a bowl type of dessert when requested, but nonetheless, I did still enjoy the drink! I will say, I wish they would have indicated how the customization work i.e. increase or decrease syrup, sugar, amounts, etc. but that was not described. The people were very nice, and the feeling of the place was very family oriented. Maybe I will ask a little more questions next time, as the drink is pricey enough for you to get exactly what you want! read more

This place is like heaven for dessert lovers with variety of options with tropical fruit flavors and especially mangos! My absolute favorites are the mango pancakes, and egg waffle with mango ice-cream. Located inside MKT Heights - the most happening area in the heights these days, this place is perfect for your sweet tooth needs after some good food around here. It does have the feel of modern boba and dessert cafes with good seating area. There is plenty good space to sit around MKT Heights and enjoy your food if prefer as well. Where they lose a star is on the service side - the staff is cold and could use some training on being better. I for one was annoyed when the casher decided to force exit me on the receipt screen while I was trying to enter my email for e-receipt - saying I was taking too long! Food (mango with coconut noodles) - This is a perfect after-dinner dessert (especially after visiting De Gama Canteen, in lieu of your craving for mango lassi). It's NOT TOO SWEET, light, yet sneaky elevated flavors and texture. After eating a heavy meal, my cousin and I were wanting something light and refreshing for dessert. We stumbled upon Hui Lau Shan on DoorDash. First, their packaging was so cute! We tried the jumbo pomelo& mango sago first. It was just what we were wanting. Light, fresh, and not too sweet. The mango pudding's texture was rich and dense. The cream to pour on top gave it just the right amount of sweetness. Not pictured was the mango yogurt drink that we couldn't stop taking sips of. I ordered the mango pudding. it was very good. I wish the portion was larger. my drink, although I forgot the name, was a mango puree on the bottom with a very creamy yogurt on top. I blended the two and it was really good, creamy and thick. really enjoyable this drink. they have a nice variety and it takes time to decide. The inside is nice but small so seating is limited. I a table is an available when you walk in, grab it, get a menu and go to the counter to order. I do plan to go back and try something else. read more

If you love all of the mangoes then this is your spot! Idk where they find the mangoes, but they are literally the best. You can't go wrong with any option on the menu. All of the flavors blend together well and overall not too sweet. My favorite is the mango with pomelo bowl. The regular size is a good size, but I can definitely finish that one myself. If you're sharing, I would go with the large. This location is within MST. If you've been to MST you know you can have all of the parking or none of the parking. Depends on the day. The location is ideal for working or a small gathering of friends. You can also take it to go and go sit on the back side of MST or walk around. Overall this is my favorite dessert spot. read more

The space has high ceilings, a clean and airy vibe, and just enough seating to feel cozy without being loud or crowded. We loved the window display of desserts and drinks.The staff were kind and patient while we browsed and placed our order. We tried the mango chewy ball, which was bursting with real mango flavor. It came with a generous serving of mango, chewy mochi, and creamy ice cream. Next up were the mango pancakes, filled with the perfect ratio of cream to mango soft, fresh, and delicious. I loveee mangos and I LOVE HLS! So happy I don't have to venture out to chinatown to get these desserts now that they're in my neighborhood. We went on a Thursday evening and the line was like 20ish min long! it was nuts. I guess we weren't the only ones that wanted "not too sweet" dessert. We made friends while in line, so that helped. Delicious! I love mango so naturally I needed to try this place out. Taste was great. Service was fine. Ambiance was really nice. I went with a group of 6 adults on a Thursday night around 8:45 pm and it was still fairly packed but we were able to find seating. The jumbo mango and pomelo and sago was huge. It can feed 2 hungry people and maybe 3 or 4 people just looking for a touch of dessert. It's a watery bowl, so it's potentially weird to share with someone you're not willing to kiss. I love their Chinatown location so I was excited to try their newly opened location in the Heights! This location is beautiful and clean inside, with plenty of seating and cute photo ops. Of course, all their mango dishes are super fresh, with high-quality sweet-tasting mango and toppings. This location took the place of a previous boba shop, but luckily the design language already fit in with their Chinatown location. I was really pleased to hear that Hui Lau Shan opened in the heights, particularly MKT, as now I can get this when in the loop. I ordered my usual A3, which tasted pretty much as it does every time. It's not mango season now, but I'm glad they can get decently sweet mangoes still. Inside, there are several tables for groups to sit at. It is well lit and very clean. read more

Currently my favorite dessert place in Houston - so excited they opened in the Heights as I live kinda far from Chinatown. They didn't change the interior decor from when it was Yumcha - I kinda wish they had added their own touch to it and made it a little more distinctive from the previous business. Got my favorite drink - D4 mango and coconut with sago. Tasted good as always although I took off one star because I wish they had put in more sago. I usually avoid visiting places during grand openings due to long waits and slow service, but a peek inside and the store looked very calm, so we decided to try it out. There were about 10 people in front of us, but the line surprisingly moved very quickly and we got our order even quicker. I've been to the Chinatown location a few times before, so I can attest that the quality and taste is just as delicious here! They are currently offering a grand opening promotion today and tomorrow (5/26) where you can get a free drink of choice with the purchase of any 2 items. We got our usual mango chewy ball dessert and decided to try the coconut jelly with mango and the mango pomelo sago drink. I think the coconut jelly is now our favorite dessert there! The coconut jelly is creamy and smooth, silken almost like tofu with a hint of sweetness. It also came with toppings -- chewy balls, crystal jelly, and of course delicious mango chunks!! The inside is much smaller than the Chinatown location, but it was still nicely decorated. Love love loveeee this place. Had it the first time in California so was excited to see they had opened a location closer to me than Bellaire. I got my usually which is the mango, coconut juice & aloe Vera jelly. It is by far my favorite drink here. They have a bunch of different mango desserts tho and honestly you can't go wrong with any of them. The shop itself is cute, would be a fun little hang out spot. This place is so brightly lit inside. Have your sunglasses handy. The service was pretty quick. Within 6 minutes we had our delicious fresh mango desserts. The mango and coconut with sago is such a refreshing treat. The mango chewy ball was a nice surprise because I wasn't sure what to expect. I always come here all the time! It's always great however I feel like their quality went down a little bit. Also in case you don't know - if you're looking for authentic mango sago this isn't really that. This is more of an icy slush mango sago version! But if that's what you're looking for than this is great!! I recommend the mango sago coconut drink! read more

When I asked questions, there was a language barrier, and the staff member behind the counter was unable to clearly explain what the items were in English. This can be especially frustrating for customers with food allergies or dietary restrictions. In the U.S., I would expect all flavors and ingredients to be clearly labeled so customers can make informed choices. Even if staff members are not fluent in English, having accurate labels for flavors and ingredients would greatly improve the customer experience. The desserts themselves are excellent, but better product labeling would make the experience much more enjoyable and accessible for everyone.

We ordered the Totoro Taiyaki which was filled with Ube custard & served with a scoop of ice cream of our choice. Our order was prepared promptly, and we enjoyed our dessert while watching some clips of Ghibli movies and trivia videos. The experience was adorable and interactive, and I'm looking forward to seeing what other themed cafe's Popfancy pulls off next!

We also saw different kinds of siopao and planned to come back later to buy some before heading back to San Antonio. We tried the ube white chocolate chip cookie first, but honestly we weren't totally satisfied. It tasted more like a regular white chocolate chip cookie with purple coloring and didn't really have much ube flavor. I also tried the chicken empanada. My cousin didn't like it because it was sweeter than expected--we were both expecting it to be savory. There seemed to be caramelized sugar in the outside of the pastry, which probably added to the sweetness. I still like it, though it was definitely sweeter than what I'm used to. Red Ribbon's chicken empanada is still my favorite. Later that day before leaving Houston, we came back for the siopao we planned to take home. We finally decided to just buy a couple pieces for ourselves, heat them up in the bakery, and try them fresh. When we saw the price for a four-pack, we were honestly disappointed. It felt expensive for the size. The siopao wasn't huge, and while I like the dough, there wasn't much chicken filling inside. For the portion, taste, and quality, it felt overpriced. Overall, it's probably not worth making another trip back for us. We did enjoy the cassava ube suman, and I like the chicken empanada, but not enough to drive all the way to Houston just for those. If I live nearby, I might come back to try other baked goods, but based on this visit, I'm not sure the rest would impress my palate. I still give them credit for cleanliness and customer service, although we did notice fruit flies on one of the shelves and reported it. The staff was friendly, and the bakery itself was welcoming. At the end of the day, since they're a bakery, the expectation is great-tasting, quality, mouthwatering Filipino breads, pastries ", and kakanin. While some items were enjoyable, overall it just didn't quite live up to the hype for us.

I was a little bit underwhelmed with the Biscoff one to be honest. When I first cut into it, it was so thick and bready that I got confused for a second and said "um... where's the cinnamon? Is this just bread??" Eventually I DID get to the cinnamon part though. But that outer layer was all bread. Perhaps it was how bready it was or that I found the toppings slightly underwhelming but... yeah. Still yummy though but not my fav. My husbands though - his was amazing! But also incredibly rich. I saw a pic of a peach cobbler one of here and it looked phenomenal. Perhaps that'll be my next one. Regardless, we gobbled them both down and had no issues. Would def come back when in the area. Wish they would open up again in Austin! :)
