I came to Teahouse to study for my final exam. From the outside, it seems like a tight space, but upon entering, there were already several places to sit, and a hallway in the back led to even more seating spots, which I thought was a neat feature of this location! The service was friendly, and I ordered the Taiwan Pineapple fruit green tea with 100% sugar. Surprisingly, the sweetness was quite subtle, and so was the tartness of the pineapple, though I did appreciate the little chunks at the bottom. The tea also wasn't very prominent. While I consider Teahouse one of the more affordable boba shops in Houston, I had to give it four stars because my fruit tea was bland and watery. Not bad, but nothing special either. Teahouse is more of a place I would visit if I need a late-night spot to study and don't want to drink coffee. read more

Was pleasantly surprised to find out that they have a "Spring Happy Hour" on Wednesdays in April through June from 4pm to 6pm! During this Happy Hour all drinks are 50% off. Awesome! What's NOT awesome is the fact that I was only given 50% off ONE of the two drinks that I ordered.. and when I said something to the employee taking my order that the total didn't add up, she just stared blankly at me. She also did not give me the discount up front, I had to say "isn't it happy hour right now?" for her to apply the discount to one of my drinks... Seems like she is new so if you're headed here for some boba, be patient with the staff! I just took the L on this because I wasn't expecting it to be happy hour, but in the future I plan to speak up better when something isn't right about my order. This place has been here for many years. I do remember back in the 2000's they had a much bigger menu and places to hang out with board games. The menu is now slimmed down, but still larger than most places. It looks like they are now using their main room for banquets. However, the drinks are still good and service is fast. I used to come here a lot while in college to sit and study and drink boba. They used to have a very cool arowana fish I loved watching. And I loved that they had baby boba pearls. Sadly I've visited two diff teahouse locations while visiting Houston again. Both times the drinks are not good. I got the house milk tea with boba. The drink is very bland and the boba pearls are bland and rubbery. The taro coconut is tasty but very sweet. They've done away with the couches in the back area. Now it's tables only with a weird street looking wall in the middle of the room. Not sure what they're trying to go for but it doesn't work decor wise. This place is open till midnight which is pretty amazing nowadays with the only other places that are open this late tend to be bars and shadier establishments. They also have a pretty back room seating area for studying or whatever to go with the front seating area. I think it's the dumbest thing to ever be invented and it's like drinking diabetes in a cup (60g or so carbs??) and anybody who regularly drinks it really needs to get their bloodwork done and make some lifestyle choices so if you're a bubble tea person who is interested in how good their bubble tea here is, you can ignore the rest of this review because I won't be much help. I am however a big regular tea fan. I mean I used to REALLY be in it and I'd complain about not having enough tea specific shops and everybody was focusing on coffee instead so I think it's awesome that there are teashops now.....BUUUUUT somewhere between me really being into tea and the pandemic, I got into coffee and I was craving some cappuccino the night I went here. Only problem is that every espresso drink they had here apparently has sugar in it and as I mentioned in my bubble tea rant, I'm not a fan of sugar so it was odd that they wouldn't actually just make espresso like a coffeeshop would and instead would use a powder that had sugar in it. I guess this is the equivalent of a coffee shop using powdered instant tea for their tea. Anyway, I figured I'd just get a plain iced tea which really seemed to disappoint the young man taking my order but as it turns out, their black iced tea is actually really good too. My daughters really enjoy coming here--they love the tapioca tea and always look forward to getting their favorites like strawberry, honeydew melon, or watermelon. They've also tried the dragonfruit lemonade, which is super refreshing. I've tasted several of their drinks and they're consistently good. The drinks themselves are very mid compared to other boba places but they definitely do their job of satisfying a milk tea craving. There are numerous locations for The Teahouse, but I'm pretty certain this Montrose one is the most popular one of them all. As one of the city's most celebrated local chains, the brand in general does a really solid job of showcasing a nearly unmatched variety of teas and fruity blends. In terms of abundance, it screams Texas all the way. Before getting to the plethora of drinks, I think it's worth remarking on the plethora of space. This place is way bigger than it looks from the outside and the strip mall location doesn't really signify what kind of space this is. The front counter where all the ordering / action is, is always bustling with activity. There's the sound of the machines whirling in the background, music playing from TV, and people lining up left and right. There's a good bit of seating in the main room, which is pretty ideal for small'ish groups and a bit of people watching. Walk a few steps past the kitchen and the lounge is the real deal. There are couches, sectioned off spaces, and plenty of room for groups to mingle or for a private study session. The WiFi is good and the ventilation is great. As far as the drinks go, I'd be hard pressed to think of something they *don't* offer. There's a dedicated section of green teas, fruit teas, black teas, and even a number of oolong specialties. Then there's actual coffee, blends / smoothies, and even cream tea. They have a fresh heaping of fruits displayed every day and I think that's where their strength lies. Honey dew is one of my favorite flavors and they do it well here. They infuse fruits with the teas and I think passion fruit with black or green tea is also an easy choice. If I'm feeling indulgent, I'll go with a fruity cream blend, such as taro, peach, or mango. The prices are standard but my biggest beef is the service. I've had drinks that were poorly made (lid not sealed, too much ice, etc.) previously and sometimes they're so understaffed the wait can be a little long. As a result, I try to stop by when it's during their non-peak hours and usually the experience is pretty good. I'm still constantly filling up my loyalty card and hoping to score my free drink soon. read more

We had parked in the free shared lot, so, it was easy to just go over and get some refreshments! August in Houston is super humid and hot. Any kind of liquid will prevent dehydration. Extremely disappointed by this location. I have always had a great experience with the other Teahouse location, but I came to this location during the BOGO offer on the 1st Tuesday of the month. Not only did they take each order extremely slowly(about 15 minutes to order), but they also took over 25 mins(after the order was placed) to make the drinks. The other locations usually offer BOGO for multiple drinks, but at this location, the "Manager" was only allowing the BOGO to work for a single drink. Every other location allows for multiple BOGOs so this was very frustrating. He also allowed for some people do more than one BOGO offer, but he prevented others from doing the same. It definitely seemed unfair and unreasonable. The most annoying part was that he didn't even tell me that the BOGO only applies to one drink and took my order for several drinks slowly, then finally in the end, he told me the total amount without including the BOGO deal for the drinks. He did not even tell me as I was ordering that the BOGO would only be applied to one drink. Such a huge waste of time, especially to come here in the middle of a workday for such horrible service. After waiting 25 minutes for the two drinks I ordered, they looked very bubbly (almost like sparking water was used instead of green tea) and did not taste the usual tea I buy. I also asked for "less ice" so of course, they added no ice and left some of cup empty. I was completely let down by the service and treatment at this location. 40 minutes to get some boba tea seems absurd. I'll stick to the other locations of Teahouse to get my favorite tea made properly and quickly. read more
