Great hidden gem that is a great local spot that is friendly to tourist. Don't let the simple and unassuming set up scare you away because the food is so worth it. The service is welcome and fast, the menu is simple with only 3 options but you won't be disappointed, the chicken is so juicy and flavorful you will love it. The ribs are so tender and tasty you wish they would have given you more. I am so glad our tour guide too us here. We loved it and oh yah the view is breathtaking!!

Parking was a bit confusing so we parked in a spot near the front canopy. Another truck pulls up next to us and says aloha and delivers some of the supplies for the day, cool. We grab a table and wait for them to open. About 15 minutes later one of the cooks (white guy) asks us if that is our car and then demeans us for parking there. We apologized and immediately moved the car. This was still a good half hour before they opened. His shitty attitude really ruined the vibe. He was a jerk the whole time. I tried to ask him a question about the place and he just ignored me. The people running the front made up for his attitude but to him, you need to work on your attitude. I get it, you may hate tourist but you rely on them for an income so adapt or do something else.
My first thought....INTERESTING! Huli Huli chicken is located near the end of the road to Hana and is worth the stop. The food is outstanding. If you have never eaten Huli Chicken you are missing out on a wonderfully moist marinated bird that is then smoked and bbq'd. It was delicious!!! The side of Asian salad was mild with just enough sweetness and sourness to make it delicious. The side of macaroni salad was as good as the chicken woman ingredient I won't mention because you've got to try it. We guessed and were correct but it was so mild. I'd like to experiment this at home and try to duplicate its protein ingredient. Ribs were equally outstanding and fall off the bone. Fantastic staff who are friendly. Be forewarned, this is a cash only business so be prepared. A definite recommendation to go-to when in Hana, HI.

Huli huli chicken was a great experience! The food was delish and the staff were really friendly! We ordered the combo plate with huli huli chicken and kalua pork/cabbage. It also came with white rice and mac salad. The whole plate was amazing and even though I saw every person in front of me pour a bunch of soy sauce on their chicken it really did t need it at all. It was so flavorful and tender and juicy! We also tried their lemongrass tea and it was really refreshing!

Really really good. The cornbread was good as well, so it's worth trying. However, the price of a combo plate was literally an arm and a leg. Pretty expensive.
Quick lunch break on the road to Hana and I finally got my hands on huli huli chicken! We got there maybe about 20 minutes after they opened but it looks like they were still getting some things set up. Between the four of us we ordered two plates of chicken and 1 plate rib combo. I honestly wasn't sure what to expect, but the chicken was so tasty and literally cooked to perfection. The white meat wasn't dry at all. BBQ is a bit of a hit or miss since the sauce can sometimes be too sweet, but that definitely wasn't the case. The portions are very generous. The ribs were also quite good, but I think I prefer the chicken over the ribs! They have plenty of seating and you're right next to a small beach. Portable bathrooms were pretty clean as well. Cash only!

Second visit and still as good :) Get the combo cos you don't want to miss the ribs either. Orders are simple - a specially made chicken and ribs with some salad and rice. They have some drink options too - all canned. Best part is you get to sit beside / on the red sand beach and enjoy the food. Lots of seating space and parking available. Not so great part - it's pretty far away but comes before the oho e gulch stop :) Must stop :)
Huli Huli Chicken really hit the spot after a morning hike in the sun. We got there 15 minutes after opening and there was plenty of parking and a short line. I got the Huli Huli Chicken Plate and my husband got the Combo Plate (with both chicken and BBQ pork ribs). Flavors were good, fairly simple and nothing too mindblowing, and the meat was cooked well. We also got fresh fruit (banana, coconut, abiu) and a banana bread bite. The fruit tasted good -- especially the abiu, as it reminded me of fruit I would eat in the Philippines -- but the banana bread bite was just okay. I was hoping to taste more of the sweet banana flavor. The red sand beach is beautiful with picturesque views of the waves!

We had to try this chicken spot on the road to Hāna. We got there a little early and they were still setting up, so we explored the red sand beach. Crazy waves there, I would not want to get in the ocean too far from the beach. The place is like a stand but they had several different types of seating. Outdoor, indoor, and a tent with seating. We got in line and ordered from the cashier. They only take cash since service isn't good. We ordered a pork and kale plate and a combo plate. Everything was delicious! The chicken was very tender and flavorful. The pork and kale was a little bland but once I added some soy sauce, it was really tasty. Would recommend to anyone who is traveling the road to Hāna! read more
Well, this was the place that we were told we needed to check out and we were glad that we did. It was part of our tour of the road to Hana. The chicken was delicious and I was surprised with the cold macaroni, but I was told that is traditional. I would definitely want to try a Huli Huli chicken recipe when I get back. I think the view was the most impressive part. Sitting and watching the waves crash against the rocks was a scene from out of a movie. read more

No vegetarian options other than the sides. However, our carnivore friends heard so much about it so we stopped by for them. We did end up ordering the macaroni salad which is pretty darn good. The Huli Huli chicken is really good according to our friends. The restaurant is almost road side stand by the beach with some picnic tables. Plenty of parking so come on by and give it a try. read more

Was lucky enough to try their Huli huli chicken, they only had a few left when we arrived. It is cash only, so beware! I loved the smoky flavor of the chicken and we had such a pretty view of the red sand beach while eating. Definitely try if you are in the area! read more

I was really excited to try this famous chicken. Whoa was I in for an underwhelming treat. The chicken had absolutely no flavor. It was moist, but tasted like a boiled chicken. What a waste of $. Keep driving. read more

Came here around 12-1pm on a Monday and there was a line. About 1pm - no line. But they ran out of pork ribs and combo plate. In my mind, there are at least 2 types of huli huli - ketchup based and shoyu/sake based. Personally I'm more akin to shoyu/sake based. That shit is da bomb. Right by the beach. No joke get here earlier rather than later even tho that can be hard and expect a line bc Gordan Ramsey was here with Chef Sheldon. So its gotta be good. read more

Very popular chicken spot at beautiful Koki Beach! Came here to pick up a few boxes after hiking the Pipiwai Trail. Arrived a few minutes before opening at 11AM, and there was already a queue forming. A tour van arrived shortly thereafter. Recommend getting there as close to opening as possible. The nice staff member did advise us they do run out by early afternoon, and they close when they're out. I liked the sides, though the chicken (to me) was slightly underdone. I'd also ordered one combo plate with the chicken and kalua pork, but didn't discover until back at the house that they gave me two ribs instead of the pork. The ribs had good flavor but had lots of fat (and messy, which is why I typically don't get ribs). Would have still preferred to try the kalua pork. Guess it got missed between the person taking the orders and the person preparing the boxes. The chicken portion is enormous; you can either share it or have leftovers. CASH ONLY $$$ read more

This place was completely mid and didn't live up to the hype I saw online about it. First of all the chicken tasted literally exactly like a Costco rotisserie chicken. It had little seasoning and no sauce. The ribs were yummy but tbh I've had 10x better ribs made by my mom. They poured sweet baby rays bbq sauce on top which I could've bought myself at the store. Then they ran out of the macaroni salad even though we got there 1.5 hours after they opened. So they gave us literally the spring mix lettuce from Costco and topped it with Olive Garden Italian dressing. Again, I could've bought this all at the store myself. No toppings on the salad either. Just lettuce. We paid about $30 for all this and it was NOT worth it. I would not come back here, I wish I could've tried a better more authentic Hawaiian food place. 2 stars because the service was good and the people were friendly. read more

This spot was featured on Gordon Ramsey for a reason! Their Huli Huli Chicken is BOMB!!!! Honestly the best chicken I've ever had- the flavor, tenderness, portion, it was all amazing. We also got to try the kalua pork with cabbage and omg that was to die for. Everything was so delicious and probably one of the best meals I've in Maui (period)!!! If you do road to Hana, this is a MUST stop! Please support this family! They are amazing and deserve all the credit to this amazing food! FYI- Cash only!! read more

I'm just a chicken enthusiast. I ordered the Huli Huli Chicken plate, it comes with papaya salad and white rice. The chicken was absolutely amazing and so easy to eat since they slice it a bit. It would've been nice if it came with a sauce for the rice but it was overall a filling meal! I was hungry and devoured the whole plate. I enjoyed my meal with a stunning view of the ocean and red sand beach. They have a lot of seating all around the beach. Only issue with the seating near the ocean was one red bench. It had screws sticking out all over the place. There's even a couple little swings on a tree in front of the water. There's lots of parking and even some porta potties. read more
While on the Road to Hana with family, we decided to make a stop at Huli Huli Chicken again. We came closer to opening time so most of the menu was available this time around for us despite being busy as ever. We got two Huli Chicken and Ribs combos for $50 which was a little steep but its a lot of food. We found a picnic table with a great view of the water a few steps away to eat. The Chicken was tender and juicy like last time. The ribs were pretty solid. The meat came off the bone and the sauce wasn't too bad either. The rice and mac salad really filled the rest of the plate and were done well. If you have cash and are looking for a meal on the Road to Hana, this is still a go to stop. read more

Well I'm going to be one a just a few that don't give a great review here It was fine. Maybe location makes it better. It was cool to eat at the side of the beach Honestly the chicken was just fine no better than the hundreds of other roadside bbq spots in America. The ribs were ok not as good as the chicken. When we arrived and saw a long line, we know the food would be great. The line moved quickly and the food exceeded our expectations. There is plenty of outside seating. This place is cash only. My only complaint is the care of animals on site. There were a few dogs walking around and they were filthy and stinky. One had a huge cut on its elbow that was bleeding. When we asked about them we were told they were workers dogs and it was fine. I was very worried for them and have still been thinking about them daily. read more
Happiness= reality -expectation. I didn't expect too much coming here. We ordered the mixed play with ribs and chicken and they started taking meat out of a cooler because it's not cooked on sight. When I started eating it, the chicken was so moist and flavorful and the ribs fell off the bone. I was absolutely shook and in for a treat. Saw this on a Gordon Ramsey show and had to stop by! On the road to Hana, it's located on the side of the beach. Very windy lol, so I recommend eating quickly since your chicken will cool down fast Flavorful, moist, and huge chicken. Its skin however is quite soggy, but it is packed with flavors though. It comes with a scoop of rice (cold) and some greens (love the dressing, I believe it is seasame) The shop itself is basically a tent with a cooler to keep your chicken warm. You can grab your own soy sauce and chili sauce when paying. Nice spot to chill on the way to Hana. Beach view with a fraction of the price. But if you ask me if I would go here if it is not for the location, my answer is no. It was good, but not something crazy read more

My man and I went here yesterday when we did the road to Haena. To say the chicken was delicious would be an understatement. We got a combo with chicken and Kalua pork with cabbage. The view was to die for. We sat in the shade behind the stand. Highly recommend stopping at this place on the way. One combo with plenty large enough for the two of us. The chicken was super moist. We also got there at about 1130 when they were just setting up and the chickens were on the barbecue. Highly recommend and we will stop at Hulu Hulu Chicken again in the future. read more

A stand by the beach open 11-4. They have all the plates ready to hand out. The chicken was very moist, flavorful and smoky. The rice was cooked perfectly. The salad could have used more dressing. The plate is big enough to share and it was perfect for a rainy day! read more

Read so you can save your money! I've tried the huli chicken, so you don't have to. Like many other comments, I'm not sure what's the hype around this place. The rotisserie chicken from Costco honestly has more flavor and tastes better for less than half the price! The chicken is $18 (cash only btw). Keep driving and wait until you head back into town for some real good food! read more

We would come back to Maui just to eat here! This spot on the beach provides a scenic place to have a meal. We had the chicken and rib combo, and both were falling off the bone. We also enjoyed having the owner's dogs around who would patiently sit with you so they could snack on the bones of your meat if you decided to share! read more
