High marks for this local Locust Point institution since 1984 (possibly named after the hit TV police show Hill Street Blues) but a local saloon going back to 1889! Sort of in the middle of nowhere/not much happening, Hull gives low-key service, tasty food, great desserts at a relatively cheap price for it all! We adored our appetizers of chicken dumplings and fried coddies (a very Baltimore/Baltimore County thing) with crackers and mustard and mussels in white wine with absolutely delicious soft pretzel sticks topped off with warm lemon pound cake with whipped cream. Stopped in here on a Saturday and it definitely gives dive bar - in the best way! We started with their mussels which I think was our favorite thing we got! The sauce was delicious and they came with huge soft pretzel sticks to dip! 10/10! I had the fish tacos which were blackened salmon and I thought they were pretty good. Happy Father's Day! Our first visit to HSB. We have been riding our bikes past here for the last year & kept wanting to stop. My wife chose it for Poppa day. We joined our daughter for great brussel sprouts! My wife had the HSB salad with grilled shrimp. Clean plate! My daughter had the Philly cheesesteak & said it was good. I had the Buttermilk Chicken Sandwich on a brioche roll. It was juicy & delicious. I had one in Buffalo a few weeks back & this was 100 times better. The fries were good too. Walked here for dinner and was shocked at how amazing the food was. The restaurant is very quaint and almost hidden. Small interior and had European vibes. It was a little busy, but we had great service. The carb dip was absolutely amazing! This is a must- everything about this appetizer was delicious, especially the bread. We have been here twice in the last 4 months (visiting from the west coast at Christmas and now) and the food has been great. First time we were there, we had the crab dip with pretzel bread which was awesome. I ordered the crispy fried chicken sandwich, and talk about huge - the chicken was twice the size of the bun. My son-in-law had the shrimp salad sandwich, and it was not at all what I was expecting....it had full size shrimp pouring out the sandwich. So that's what I ordered this time (along with the crab dip and pretzel bread which was a no brainer)...so good. My husband went and picked it up. I also ordered the lemon pound cake for desert and it was so moist and delicious. Of course while my husband was waiting for the food to be ready, he gravitated to the cookies and brownies at the table. The prices are extremely reasonable for all the food you get. A wonderful neighborhood bar. Fantastic client service. I love these people. So key If you want a good time. I only go for evening festivities but I hear they do a good brunch. The food is good for bar food and they actually have some eclectic dishes like pho and pad thai! The only pho in our neighborhood (not very authentic) but I still live it as a delicious Clear broth soup. Salad is always very fresh. Grilled chicken Caesar salad is my go to. A rustic bar on one side, and a formal white table clothed fine dining experience on the other (aka the Commodore Room). This review is more about the bar which is more like a 3.25-3.5 stars, not 3. I love it here b/c of Hank (the bartender who works Wed. Fri and Sat nights) and the relaxed atmosphere that whispers "shhh, sit down, stay a while" and so I do. The places strength is the country-home je ne said quio and Hanks good music selctin', fun natured cheery attitude coupled with a transient Veitnamese influenced menu. The beer list is small but it is a full bar. Resurrection and Loose Cannon are regular's on tap as are Guiness (dark and blonde) mostly b/c there is a big Irish Flag atop the bar so it was once an Irish Pub and these may be vestiges from that day gone past. The food menu has its shining spots but is, to me, its weakness and the reason for why it is not more of a 4-star place. First, its highlights: one select nights, the menu takes on a Vietnamese nuance from the chef (who I am told is Vietnamese) and so you may find spring rolls, pad thai (very good) and pho (beef or chicken). The spring rolls and pad thai are worth having and worth repeating but the pho is more like a chicken soup than real pho. It is a nice change to the menu and a great finisher after a day of eating poorly or drinking excessively. I have had some of their other food in the chili, wings and sandwiches and sadly, none have impressed me to point of looking forward to eating there, UNLESS is something Viet-inspired. The rolls are fresh and more authentic as is the eye-catching and mouth-watering pad thai (w/ shrimp) We have never eaten in the attached Commodore Room so I am not sure if the menu is different and therefore should not be judged by this review. The vibe and mood in the place makes up for its menu, in my opinion, if you are looking to just decompress, watch some TV (the volume is NOT on so it is NOT a sports bar in any way), or listen to some tunes, which are often playing in a volume that can be heard by all (as it should be, in my musically-driven opinion. There is a jukebox and table shuffleboard so that fun lovin' party feel is a nightly staple even if there are only a couple folks in the place b/c the music is loud and the bar-goers & workers are friendly. Maybe someday live blues music will be played here to give its name even more mmmph! read more

This is a place where the locals hang out... because Locust Point is a peninsula, you kind of have to go out of your way to get here. I've only ever been to the bar but the service is always friendly! I don't recommend the crab cake, it's pretty dry and not the best in town. We came for a breezy Friday night meal, and left shaking our heads at the range of choices of delicious food. The garlic shrimp appetizer rivaled Tio Pepe's but at a working man's price. My wife had one of the specials -- a bed of greens with blueberries and grilled clementines topped with panned-seared diver scallops. To die for! I had Old Bay wings and, as a native Baltimorean, the coddies. Having grown up on this home town dish, I found these to be the best I've ever eaten, light and full of flavor. This modest but mighty bar has now become our local favorite. We went in on a Wednesday night and it was PACKED! There is a dedicated bar area and separate dining areas. We dined in for dinner, not knowing the restaurant hosts a Trivia night on Wednesdays. We decided to participate and we are so glad we did. Definitely come for the Trivia Night, everyone gets really into it and there are prizes for the winner. The restaurant seems like it is always filled with this high energy, so if you like that sort of environment, definitely check it out! And if you don't, still come because the food was great! I ordered the Wednesday special, which included meatloaf, mashed potatoes and a side soup (either their house gumbo or the soup du jour). I chose the soup du jour which was chicken curry soup. Let me tell you, that was the best chicken curry soup I've ever had. It was creamy and the perfect level of spice. For me, this was the star of the special, and the fact that the meal was $15!! The meatloaf and mashed potatoes were simple but very tasty. Sometimes, simple is better for classic meals like meatloaf and potatoes. Without a doubt, one of the worst restaurant experiences I've ever had. Went here about three years ago with my parents and husband for brunch on Father's Day. We were seated near a fireplace which periodically exhaled dust and dirt on us. A large group was departing when we arrived and they apparently decimated the buffet. With more than an hour left on the buffet, nothing was ever refilled. It was slim pickings to try to cobble together a meal and what was there was awful. Water refills were not offered unless requested. It appeared to be a family operation (complete with minors behind the bar) and I can imagine that is the only reason the servers were employed there because it certainly was not due to competence, grace, excellence or talent at their position. We could not wait to get out of there and will definitely never return. read more

Have been here a few times and had fine experiences, but last night after we were sat we waited over 35 minutes before even getting waters. We went inside to try and track someone down but couldn't find a single waiter, there wasn't even anyone behind the bar. Another table next to us who arrived after eventually walked out. Eventually the waiter came out and apologized saying there was a big party inside - we eventually got our food, but every burger was over cooked. Our waiter was very nice but he was clearly stressed. I understand restaurants are short staffed right now but we would have preferred them to tell us up front, or not seat us at all, rather than seat us and leave us for so long. read more

I know it's not that fair to write a review based on one visit, but I also know I will be back. This place is homey and sweet. On a rainy afternoon, the bartender served us at a table towards the back of the restaurant. From the other diners to the service, everyone was kind. I started with a Resurrection from The Brewer's Art, and ordered the roast beef ciabatta. This sandwich was SO GOOD. Holy moly. Everyone at my table enjoyed their food and their beer. We tried out the Sunday brunch, and it was quite good! They put out a yummy display of coffee cake, eggs, bacon, sausage, beans and rice, asparagus with a tasty creamy tomato sauce, meatballs, salad, pasta salad, and fruit, among other things. The highlights: the blueberry pancakes brought to your table are fantastic. Like maybe I would return just for those pancakes. They are just a little bit crispy around the edges with lots of blueberries. Yummy! They also cooked the bacon just right, and the meatballs and beans and rice all had lots of flavor. The lowlights: Orange juice seemed a bit watery, coffee cake tasted dried out to me, eggs were just so-so. Overall seemed a bit overpriced at $16.95 per person. read more

3.25 Stars I really enjoyed the coziness of Hull Street Blues and the atmosphere - very much a neighborhood darling. The thing is, you need to come to the brunch buffet at a reasonable time: I am thinking as early as 10:30/11:00 to really enjoy the delicious food. Otherwise, it sort of stays there for a few hours and gets dry and rubbery. Each of the buffet items are very tasty but it can take some time before some of the more popular seafood items like crab cakes, oysters, mussels, and salmon are replenished. Very friendly staff, lovely interiors, and reasonable prices. Other than that - the reason why I really enjoy Baltimore so much is because of places like Hull Street Blues - these are the kind of places that people want to believe exist. read more

This place is tucked away within walking distance of Under Armor HQ. It's very small, not really good for large groups. This is primarily a local neighborhood bar for the Locus Point locals. I was very impressed with the service here. I really wanted to try the conch Salad but it had peppers in it. But the server told me that it was pre-made and I couldn't have the peppers removed. He assured me that they were big enough for me to pick out if I wanted to AND....he would let me order another salad if I didn't like it. Sure enough, the salad was actually really good! Even with the peppers. I was able to get the big pieces off to the side and was able to get a good meal out of it. The server was right! Morale of the story....these guys know their stuff. Wow! We all really wanted to like this place. Started out with great service and good coffee, went south pretty fast For starters, we ordered the brunch buffet, mistake. The food was really subpar, rubbery eggs, soggy home fries, just really poorly done. Nothing worth a return trip. The made to order french toast was only delivered after we asked for it a third time and the line cook tried to hide that they burnt it by putting the burnt side on the bottom. We were looking to hammer some blue crabs on this busy memorial weekend Saturday. Of course packed everywhere so we ended up coming to Hull street because they're simply available. Since they're available we're a little skeptical, came in around 7 and only 3 parties are eating, so still skeptical. Turns out they do not serve blue crabs until late June. OK, so we were a little disappointed but eventually it turns out to be one of the best meal we have in Baltimore! Ordered steam shrimps and mussels both fresh and great! Crab dip was OK had better. Then we ordered rib eye, crab cakes double and linguine with clam sauce all awesome! The sides homemade mashed potatoes and zucchini are great! And nice nautical decorations with family pictures! Of all the places that qualify as "neighborhood joint", this is IT, and I say that with a LOT of love. I spent a decade in the restaurant biz "back in the day'', and to watch a crew like this handle the brunch buffet, regular customers, "first-timers" while trying to fix the satellite dish all at once for the ALL important NFL game...it's a treat. My brunch companion was late arriving...GPS WILL fool you getting here, but the choices on the brunch buffet were impressive. Eggs, fried potatoes, fresh fruit and seafood as well as carved ham..NICE. Later, I good naturedly needled the chef about the flank steak being gone from the buffet.
