29th street tavern is a classic dive bar. i came here around 9 pm on a friday and it was completely packed. after about 10 mins, a table freed up that my friends and i snatched (group of 5). the drinks are exactly what you would expect from a dive bar (good thing) and i was satisfied with my angry orchard. the food here is quite good. reasonably prices and everything tastes fresh. great spot for classic american food that won't break the bank. i got a blt with fries, which definitely satisifed the craving. their fries were great if a little undersalted. on busy nights service is a difficult thing to gauge, but for what it is it is definitely satisfactory. highly recommend if you like dive bars with good food. read more

Now that my beloved 'Cheers' (aka 'Brewers Art') is no more, it appears w/o even trying, that '29th Street Tavern' has become my 'go to' spot. It's very much a 'local neighborhood bar'. There's no flash. There are no gimmicks. It's a local bar to go grab a drink and you're not in the mood for the trendy packed spots. It's very unassuming and great neutral space. Anyone can show up, any time. Everyone's welcomed. You can have a good convo w/o having to scream thru it. MASSIVE PLUS *smile*!!! From a musical perspective, all sorts of genres pump thru the system and the ability to make selections is much better than other bars, which is great. It's even better when your selections are getting other people to enjoy the music and their time there, as well. Always a crowd pleaser. Aside from a fully stocked bar, there's a great beer selection. I happen to LOVE ciders and there's always an excellent choice available. The bartenders are always welcoming and accommodating. People come to unwind and have a good time w/o any pretense. I really enjoy the Tavern for that reason. read more

Avoid. Went here with eight of my employees -we were going to make it our weekly spot as it is close to our location. The staff was so rude and the bartender was making fun of customers within ear shot of us . The food was blah and all of our drinks were made wrong -glasses had lipstick marks . We are all former bartenders so we can see through the BS) . Suffice to say we will not be making this our weekly spot. read more

Bartenders are mean and incompetent on every level. Maybe spend less time dying your hair blue and spend more time learning how to make a drink. I witnessed the blue haired bartender drink from a bottle of very expensive whiskey with the spout still on it, then she served an elderly customer a drink from the same bottle. EWWWW! They were pretty tasty and I love the fresh cut fries. The portions were good. And my boyfriend loved that resurrection beer was on the menu. Would definitely return. read more

The Foreign Legion/VFW post vibe is pretty cool, went on a Tuesday night around 9 and even though the bar was full we only had to wait 5 minutes for a table for two. The bartenders were polite and cleaned our table quickly, considering the place was packed they were doing an amazing job. The Buffalo Garlic Parm sauce for the wings was clearly home made and without realizing it we were there on a Tuesday making the wings only 9 dollars, the blue cheese is very mild but worked well with the sauce. The shrimp po'boy was large enough to split and was comparable to a sandwich from New Orleans in quality. I was tempted by the club but the turkey isn't the style I like, otherwise I could easily see myself trying more of the menu because it's clear the cook was skilled. The rail ginger beer and rum was inexpensive and well made and their selection of beer while currently missing a few key dark beer items was not bad at all, they included some draft beer options as well outside of the standard light beers and National Bohemian. All in all I would see myself returning when I head to the area for Ottobar events to try more of their food menu, just remember to get there somewhat early before the kitchen closes at 10. read more

This is an excellent neighborhood dive bar. The prices are reasonable and the food is very well executed, classic bar food. The deviled eggs were particularly good; they taste like something you get at a family cookout. Sunday afternoon around 1pm on March 1st. Called to place a carry out order phone is ringing no one answering. So I decide to walk in, it's busy. Looks like there is only one person taking orders. Lady is bussing a table so I wait until she's at the counter to just say "when ever you can I'll place a to go order, no rush" She goes loudly and rudely "oh, yeah!!!! Everybody needs help!!!!!!" So I walk out. I've just spent the whole weekend my self waiting tables in a busy restaurant. I understand what it's like when it's busy or understaffed, but you can say I'll be with you when I can. To just basically push people out because you're overwhelmed is awfully rude. I did a shift by myself this weekend as the only one on and wouldn't treat people this way. read more

We went on the early side, and I think all three of us got burgers -- but the burger that was on special, the smash burger. So, so good. I also love their selection of beer, and the cozy, homey atmosphere. Definitely plan to visit again when I'm in Baltimore again. read more

Walking into the restaurant I expected better, the atmosphere gives off tavern to a T, but after sitting down our experience turned sour. After the waitress took our order, our food came out incorrectly and she proceeded to argue and give us "life advice" about communication. Very poor service and rude waitress. I have been hearing great things about a neighborhood bar in Remington.. I had just finished breakfast (dnt judge me) and decided I'd grab a quick cocktail. They dnt open until 11, so I was a tad early, so I took a walk around the neighborhood.. I returned closer to 11:30.. The bartender Zach thanked me for coming back and said I could grab a seat anywhere.. I chose the bar!!! A table had already been seated, and Zach was hard at work.. He was a bit short stafdes but managed to still provide his seated party & I wonderful attention.. I ordered a green tea shot, and it was the punch I needed but not too strong... This place is a great hideaway spot from your typical bars. It's asmall but a mighty restaurant. With daily specials throughout the week (burger, wing, cheesesteak night etc), you're able to enjoy great quality food on a budget. The beer selection is pretty vast. The bar also makes great cocktails. 29th st Tavern is a place for everyone. I'm a sucker for outdoor dining so I love there's an option to sit outside. Be sure to have a credit card handy if want to eat out as they require you give the bar a card to be outside. Now I'm not sure if this is enforced always but seems to be when we are there. I'm not too fond of that as it caught me off guard but from a business perspective I get it as patrons can walk off and not pay. The service is always impeccable. The servers are patient and kind and very knowledgeable about the menu. Make sure you order the Deviled eggs and crab soup!! read more

I'm a sucker for a cute lil dive. This spot is exactly that. Very much a neighborhood bar. The drinks were cheap and strong. Don't expect a list of fancy craft cocktails. They have plenty of beer and spirits though. It's self seating at the bar or in the small dining room area that has a few two tops and four tops. They also have outdoor seating. The bartenders make a good effort at running to each of the tables to take your order. I asked for a dark and stormy because how can you go wrong with rum and ginger beer? It was the perfect thing to warm me up on a fall evening. We also got the loaded tots which were just OK. They came wrapped in aluminum foil. The cheese was really caked onto the foil and the tots didn't really keep their shape making it hard to eat. I'll definitely be back for drinks but will probably avoid the food unless something REALLY jumps out to me on the menu. That said, this place gave me a good vibe overall. read more

I haven't tried their food yet, but I loved getting drinks at 29th Street Tavern. It has a classic pub feel that is hard to find nowadays! It's a little small, a little dark, with lots of brick and wood, TVs, and a homey feeling. I'll definitely be back for drinks - and hopefully for food next time too! I had a cheesesteak sandwich. ! I truly enjoyed how tender the steak was, lightly seasoned. The roll was fresh as well as all the veggies that accompanied. Fresh cut fries are my absolute favorite and what attracted me to this place. They were perfect! The service was prompt and the bartender who took our orders was pleasant. From the outside, it looks like a dive, but the inside is a cozy bar with plenty of tables and chairs. We sat outside, which was perfect for a beautiful day! We have ridden by this restaurant for a long time, and today we stopped in for lunch. The restaurant was quiet. Our server came over right away. He never did tell us his name and was just matter of fact. My husband wanted to try their cheese steak sub. He ordered his with the shaved sirloin, provolone, and a little mayonnaise. He swapped out the French fries for a garden salad for $1.00. I decided to try the powerhouse wrap. The wrap was filled with hummus, feta, avocado, carrots, radishes, cucumbers, lettuce, bell peppers, red onion and tomato. It was very filling. We both enjoyed our lunches. read more

Consistently great (and very affordable) food and drinks. It feels very home-y, the staff are all very kind, always good tunes on, and seems like a great spot to catch a game. It's small though, and I get the feeling the kitchen is too because you might end up waiting for your food at times. It's worth it though and the Monday-Wednesday specials are very good deals (burger night, wing night, and cheesesteak night respectively). Outdoor seating when the weather's right. The cheesesteak was legitimately delicious (I lived in Philly previously and I'm very picky about cheesesteaks) and service was attentive. Dang, that was a good blue cheese bacon burger! A prime beef patty, yummy bacon, really good cheese (and I'm a blue cheese snob) on a good, firm bun. Even the tomato was better than your average 'out of season' 'mater. (Yeah, I'm a Md. tomato snob too) I asked for it medium rare, and darned if I didn't get it that way. My best friend, a chef, got the au jus and was exceedingly pleased, commenting that the gravy was pleasing at the onions were caramelized the way he likes them. Both came with house cut, double fried fries that were crispy from start to finish. And as per my preference, it wasn't a huge pile of them. This place was recently renovated, and is now in new hands. I liked the old place, but it was grungy. Good food, friendly people.... but grungy and basic. The 29th managed to keep all of the old spirit, but make it feel better. The neighborhood is changing for the cleaner, and the bar needed to follow. It still feels absolutely like a Remington neighborhood bar. The prices all felt right. You can go totally basic Baltimore, or you can get adventurous. There was an old hand at the bar, training a total rook, and they were wonderful. My friend the chef, and I watched a delivery of ingredients come through the door, and agreed that they get quality fixin's, not the cheap stuff. (I contemplated running away with a big case of butter) Ok, here come the inevitable complaints. The rook didn't know the answer to a question. So she asked the old hand. That's ten, maybe fifteen seconds out of my life. The second complaint is that I tried a new hefe that I didn't like, so I got a different beer. read more

If there was ever a bar I wanted to be a regular at in Baltimore, this is the place. Decent sized bar, plenty of seating, indoor and outdoor, servers going around promptly, a sizeable beer list and modest food menu, and a few TVs that I look for going to a bar. I went with a group of about ten, and we each had different orders; I had the chile Verde tacos, which I wasn't expecting much, but when I bit into it, the chicken was flavorful, and the gooey texture of the melted cheese told me these were legit. I also had the Tavern Tots, their take on loaded tots; once again, they win with the gooey cheesiness and the flavor with every bite. Wash it all down with a couple of 4 dollar tall drafts of Boh, which won me. This place is our new spot. A few blocks away, friendly service, great bar food and of course, good beer. The best word to describe their approach to beers on draft is: simple. Of course like a true Baltimore bar should, they have Boh on draft. Other than that, they have one other beer, for those that was something with a little more punch: Monument City's 51 Rye, which is an excellent local craft beer. Not sure if this one will rotate, but I hope not! I am a fan of this concept, makes for a quick and satisfying decision. For those that are looking for different options, they have a selection of bottles as well. The food here is surprisingly good and thoughtful. When you hear the word "tavern", I usually think greasy bar food, not that it's a bad thing, but that really isn't the case here. While they definitely do have that, they have other options that you wouldn't expect. I ordered some tacos and was really just expecting some good but crappy tacos, I was wrong. These were outstanding. I highly recommend them. I have obviously also tried the honey ghost bone in and boneless wings, both banginnnn. Tots are great, cheesesteak is great, fries are great.
