We stopped by Kooper's Tavern during our Baltimore getaway while trying to beat the heat, and it ended up being one of our favorite casual stops of the trip. The vibe was cozy, relaxed, and full of personality especially all the dog artwork on the walls (don't tell my cats ). Our waitress, Sadie, was incredibly kind and helpful from the moment we sat down. She highly recommended the truffle fries with the aioli sauce, and WOW!!! she absolutely knew what she was talking about. Those fries were honestly the standout of the meal. The smell alone was amazing when they hit the table -- perfectly crispy with truffle seasoning and Parmesan cheese, and the citrus Parmesan aioli really took them over the top. We ordered the fried chicken sandwich and the Sully Smash Burger with bacon added, cooked perfectly medium. The chicken sandwich was perfectly crispy, hot, juicy, and flavorful. Everything came out fresh and satisfying without feeling overly heavy. Great food, friendly service, cozy atmosphere, and definitely somewhere we'd return to next time we're in Fells Point. I visited Kooper's Tavern a few days ago because I was craving a burger. I ended up ordering a smash burger, a beer (their signature lager), and Old Bay chips. The beer was great--definitely a highlight. The burger, however, wasn't smashed at all and felt pretty basic, aside from their secret sauce, which added some flavor. The chips were good as well. The spicy margarita is truly spicy, the way it should be, will give you fiery poops the next day, burn your bootyhole. Trying out another neighborhood spot we walk past with our dog. It's a cute spot with lots of dog paintings and good background music and easy to have conversations. We ordered 3 different dishes to share and only one was good which was the crab cake. Not a very big crab cake but had chunks of crab and good flavor. The gumbo tasted like gravy with a few pieces of sausage and other stuff. The cream of crab soup was all cream and no crab and no flavor. Stopped in for a nice evening meal whilst just walking around Fells on a pleasant weeknight. They were very busy but we managed to snag a two top outside. What I deeply appreciate about this place is they are dog friendly on the patio. So many places in Baltimore make it difficult for those of us who would like to include our furry family with us when we go out. Will bring my pup next time. Solid bar/pub fare. We came here for brunch after spending the earlier morning hours exploring Baltimore. We had the buffalo chicken Caesar wrap and steak frites. Everything came out quickly and was pretty hot and fresh and full of flavor. We didn't have reservations but they did have room to seat us and the restaurant did fill up pretty quickly. We were staying in Baltimore for the weekend and decided to come over to Fell's Point for a few hours on Sunday. This place looked appealing for lunch so we decided to give it a try for lunch around 11:30. At that time they had both the brunch and lunch menus available. The lunch menu had plenty of appetizers, soups, salads, burgers and other sandwiches and entrees. I decided to go with the Cobb salad. It looked and tasted great. The restaurant was still quiet before noon, and offers a bar area, an outdoor patio, a dining room towards the back, and high top seating up front - we chose the high top seating. I had the Philly cheesesteak which was not one of the better cheesesteaks I've had in my lifetime, but it was fine and was accompanied by Old Bay chips. Service from Cristin was also okay, noting that he seemed to be doing double duty between serving our table and handling tasks behind the bar. Pricing for my wife and I averaged just under $30 per person all in, including a drink, tip and tax. 'Twas visiting my old coworker upon his move to downtown Balto, and he said we shall meet on the waterfront and find a place for dinner. We met right in front of a nice sunset view and a patio belonging to one Kooper's Tavern. I offer the following in favor of Kooper's: A very strong on-tap beer selection, backed up by bottles if you really need - but you don't. Small but varied food menu. Crab soup was packed with crab meat from top to bottom. Outdoor seating if you want, a nice dark interior with televisions to set the mood of an upscale bar inside more reminiscent of overseas. Friendly chatting with the bartender for a good portion of the evening. Just a couple of downsides here. The crab soup was a bit saltier than I'd like, although that may be the way people like it. The crabcake was far from the meatiest I've had, though at least not the breadiest. Somewhere in the middle, and a little small for the price point I felt. Verdict: Not perfect, but when you're in Fells Point, do you really expect more than you'll get here? I wouldn't, and I'm glad I Kooped. read more

My grilled spicy black bean burger (the Calvin) was with 99.9% of certainty a frozen MorningStar frozen spicy black bean burger they thew on the grill. Not that I don't like those because I buy them from the grocery store. The website states all made from scratch. This was not. I got it without the BBQ sauce which I love a weird combo of foods made so sense. Should have asked or should have been made aware that this item was not made in house. The service was solid, and we kicked things off with a couple of extra dirty martinis and a glass of wine. All the drinks were excellent (the martinis especially hit the spot). For a starter, we tried the crab dip. It had good flavor but was just okay overall--mostly because it was surprisingly light on actual crab. Same story with the Maryland crab soup and cream of crab soup "half & half" that the bartender recommended. Fun idea, decent flavor, but again... where's the crab? The star of the night was the Ronan burger. Cooked medium rare exactly as ordered, and honestly one of the better burgers we've had in a while--juicy, flavorful, and done perfectly. Overall, Kooper's has a great atmosphere and strong drinks, but the crab dishes were a letdown, especially in a city known for doing crab right. Not sure if we'll be back, since there are plenty of spots in Baltimore where the crab dishes actually deliver the crab meat you expect. read more

We chose to share a bowl of chili which came with tortilla chips. The chili was unique in that it had a bit of a sweet flavor. I used to frequent Kooper's Tavern a lot when I used to live in Baltimore and I'm glad to report that nothing has changed. Their crab cakes and crab cake sandwiches still hit (not the best in the city but good) and the orange crushes are delicious. Everything is priced well in my opinion and I love that they have outside seating options. Staff was fine, we did feel forgotten about a couple of times but I can imagine that's because of the back and forth that the server has to do as well as they may have been a little short staffed on this day that we came. A group of us came here from work for a team lunch. We were greeted upon entering and seated upstairs. We all put in our orders with the server and someone got the Nachos appetizer to share with the table. It was a huge dish and everyone was able to enjoy some of it. The chips were crispy and had lots of flavor with the melted cheese, bell peppers, onions, and jalapeño peppers. I really enjoyed the Fish Tacos I got. They were perfectly cooked and the jalapeño ranch was so flavorful. Everyone seemed to enjoy their dish. I've been here a couple times in the past but it had been a while so it was nice to come back and have a great experience again. My friends and I walked into Koopers with no reservation. They assembled up nicely at the bar upstairs where service wise we were well taken care of. The bartender was amazing. I would come see her again no problem. The food was just ok. I heard great things about the burgers. I am currently on a mission to locate the best in the city so I happily ordered one that menu wise sounded delicious. I got the morning Mcguiness. The cook on it was perfect. Medium cook with pretty soft bread. For me the problem was the flavor. It lacked a little in the area. It also didn't have any sauce on it. The fried eggs could have easily been an over easy to create more flavor. Thankfully I had ketchup on my fries and was able to dip my otherwise dry burger. While visiting Baltimore my husband and I stopped in here because we were walking around the bay. We sat at the bar and the bartender, Lynn was super friendly and attentive to us. My husband got the Koopers Yellow Lab Lager and it was good and flavorful. I got a spicy bloodmary. I liked that the bartender asked how I wanted it spicy with horseradish or jalapeños. I wanted it with Tabasco sauce and she added it no problem! They were having brunch at the time so I got the Lox and the works. When the food came to me I had to assemble my bagel myself. This wasn't necessarily a bad thing since everyone likes their bagels their way. The salmon that came with it was good and seemed fresh. On the menu it says the lox and the works comes with fresh fruit or potatoes so I got the potatoes. The potatoes weren't bad but they came out cold and tasted like they had no seasoning. Also, I got charged on my bill for them even though the menu said "served with potatoes or fresh fruit". The bartender took it off no problem. My husband got the gumbo and it was delicious. I ordered a burger and asked for lettuce and tomato rather than the toppings as described on the menu. I didn't get it. I didn't get the salad dressing for my salad either. Because there was no available waiter in sight I just ate what I was given to me. $5 extra for the side salad instead of fries by the way. When we got the bill I noticed they actually charged me $1 for lettuce and tomato on my burger!!! (Which I didn't even get). Now I don't care about the $1 but by now I had reached my boiling point! I was angry and had made too many concessions so I did actually complain and let the manager know about the bad service and $1 for something that should be free - and I NEVER GOT! He didn't care and gave me the excuse that there was only 1 server on. I don't know but maybe as the manager he could've stepped up and helped???? Luckily, they were able to see us promptly, and we ordered food and drinks. The fall cocktail menu is excellent, with a mulled wine and apple cider Moscow mule. We all enjoyed all of the cocktails. I ordered the fried chicken sandwich on the recommendation of the server, and was debating on getting the fish and chips, though he said it tends to run a little bit oily. Unfortunately, the fried chicken sandwich was quite disappointing, with the chicken being under salted and underseasoned. I personally would prefer the bacon to be crispier.
