I used to go to Hully Gully when it was on Imperial in Downey. I love 80s new wave and Rock en Español. Most likely I will be going solo to this one since my circle of friends live in San Fernando Valley and I live in the South Bay, and it's somewhat close to me. There are plenty of clubs that play 80s, but not many left that play Rock en Español when I started clubbing in the late 90s when it was in it's peak. ​ read more

Some old lady complained about us not touching some wire which we complied with (and didn't even touch to begin with. We literally just pointed out that it's hanging low) and then she came up to us and said "get the eff out, get the eff out" she actually said the eff word. We didn't make a scene and complied and left but she was as completely unprofessional about the whole ordeal. Power tripping to say the least. Def do not go this place if you're trying to have a good time, it wasn't necessary for the staff to cuss us out as we instantly complied but again, it was some old lady power tripping when we complied in the first place. Hully Gully misses the mark for me. For starters, the parking is super unclear and there is very little of it. I've heard they charge on some days, which would be okay, because at least someone can point you in the right direction. The night we came, the bouncer at the front just kept pointing in a random direction and seemed irritated when I wanted him to clarify. Next, the drinks are either watered down or done with a super heavy poor. No middle ground. You're better off just sticking with beer if you can, cause they can't screw up just popping a cap. Regardless, everything is outrageously overpriced. They serve food, but there is no way in hell I'd ever try it. For the music, they do Latin in the back and 80's in the front. The 80's was hit and miss and the DJ the night we went couldn't get through a complete song to save his life. I think his friends were there, because he was definitely playing to them and stopping whenever they wanted something new. Not cool. They did have a Prince impersonator that was pretty funny, but then he scrambled off before the end of the song and we never saw him again. We think he was part of the show? The dance floor can get super cramped cause it's a small space. With the cover, the expense drinks and the fear that your car will get towed because you parked in an unmarked lot... If I can give this place zero starts I would. Starting off, there was no security when we entered or bag checks. Which means anyone could bring ANYTHING in. So this place lacks safety measures. There is a cash cover charge which is understandable. The place is pretty big. One side has the dance floor with some table and the other side of the room is pretty much darken and empty. They did have a taco worker in the back that was selling. But they honestly let anyone in. This guy kept harassing my group the whole night. We complained more than 5 times about him to security and nothing was done. It's like we are trying to prevent a fight from happening but they cant be bothered with helping. Then knowing they don't check anyone before coming in just leaves you feeling helpless during confrontation not knowing the other person has a weapon or not. Pretty disappointed. I'm a child of the '80s, so is my wife and my brother and sister-in-law. The music they played was 90% Rock en Español and10% 80s music. And-- the '80s music wasn't even played until the end of the night!! The DJ was terrible. We called twice to ask how much the cover was. It was a Saturday night. We were told it was $10 all night. When we got there, they told us that because there was a band that evening it was $15, but it was $10 before 10:00 p.m. After talking with the owner, she finally honored the $10 cover charge because we had driven so far to meet up with our relatives, and because we were given incorrect information. Drink prices were reasonable, but you can only use cash. You can't pay with a card. Yeah, I have no need to go back here.... I'll find another '80s place that actually plays '80s music! read more

Oh how times have changed...wait, not this 80's club. Music, venue, and pre-HVAC. Park behind Jack in the Box; It's free. The bouncer will pat down the guys and scan everyone's ID. Shuffle through the door and pay your cover charge to the seated woman. Expect it to be hot and sticky going through the first dance room. The DJ was not that good in room one but the bartenders were good at pouring drinks; cash only bars. There is an ATM on the other side of the first bar. Tables and chairs are in the back of the room and you can order food and drinks from the waitress. I can't comment on the food since I have not indulged. Venturing to the back hallway, you'll pass the bathrooms and finally head to the 2nd room, which plays better 80's music but just in Spanish. This room has one good feature besides a second bar: a large fan! There's a pool table, too. If you go to the back doorway, you'll stumble upon the patio with a few tables, no chairs, and some buckets to throw your cigarette butts. A posted sign on the patio door demands you to close the door for the neighbors...located directly above the club. This is not a great dive bar and my first experience will be my last, mark my words! A good friend of mine chose Hully Gully as the location for her 25th birthday celebration. She expressed that they place 80's music and Spanish rock which I enjoy dancing to. It was $5 before 9:30 and $10 after. This being one of my dearest gals, I was down. The drive wasn't bad at all, there was hardly any traffic and I found the place very easily. Parking, was just as easy to find since some office for Los Angeles department of education was right next door and they have a large parking lot with no charge.The entrance to this dive bar looked very nice after seeing what the inside looked like. The place is large with two rooms. The room right from the entrance played 80s music and the second room to the back with the patio area played Spanish rock & 80's music. The aesthetics of this place is very eclectic! There are beer poster up on the walls, disco lights flashing and the people were dressed in a range from fancy to a shirt and jeans. This is by far the only bar that I have stepped foot in where the beers costs more than hard liquor without it being happy hour. A Stella cost $8 while a soda water was $5. Majority of my friends didn't enjoy any of their mixed drink. They could hardly taste the liquor and they couldn't put their finger on what soda was mixed in. They also use the same glass for drinks. The bartender in the Spanish rock room didn't change out my friend's glass until his 4th drink. I thought that the music would save this place but even that was a failure. The DJ played unknown 80s music until the place got a little packed. He was holding out of the good stuff because maybe he didn't have that many to play. My friends and I didn't dance almost until 11:30. The Cure and Morrissey did eventually play but there was a good block of songs that just played. This place wasn't worth the $10. We have tried other 80's clubs but NOTHING tops Hully Gully. Hully Gully is my little piece of 80's heaven for the following reasons: 1. Ample parking that is close to the entrance 2. There is always enough room on the dance floor to really get your dance moves going 3. Friendly staff 4. Great music 5. Im sorry but this place sucks.. First of all, they dont pat you down when you come in, so who knows if anyone is carrying anything on the way in. Second of all, the bars are cash only. They have an ATM, but thats it. Lastly, the music is good, wont complain, but the space is kinda confind in the sense where the ceilings are really low. I guess they also serve food, cause i did see a menu, and a kitchen open. The day i was there, the cover was 10 bucks, which is outrageous i think. 5 bucks would of been ok. Anyways, the day i was there, a fight broke out, and lasted a while before any staff showed up..I say staff, cause i didnt see any security in the building. Has potential! Nice little dive. Ample dance floor and nice light and sound system. Went on a Saturday night! They had a Smith's tribute band which was pretty ok. Drinks are pretty watered down and they use low quality mixers so my tequila sunrise tasted like a cheap tang mix of some sort with almost no alcohol!Also they don't accept credit cards??? Cash only! Tables were dirty, sticky and uneven. When we first called in some lady told us the cover charge would be $10 all night but when we arrived, they said it was $15 and they didn't budge or cared to address nor hear my complaint. DJ was playing for himself! We asked him to play all genres of 80's like freestyle (madonna, stevieB, culture club, Prince, cover girls etc...) he nodded yes but never played our request and played spanish rock, euro, punk, new wave 80s which is ok but not if you overdo it & never mix it up! Take note Hully Gully's!!! Step up your game! If you polish up a bit you'd have yourself a pretty decent little spot! $15 is way too much for a dive bar! Came to celebrate my birthday here last night with a few friends. I loved the music and every song that came on I just HAD to dance. Shoes were off in 20 minutes and I was already up on stage by my third drink(the drinks were a bit strong). There was also only one bartender. Really?! They stayed true to their word and I was let in for free but the friends that came in after 9:30 had to pay $10.00. YIKES...That's a lot for a place that is more of a bar then a full blown club. The bathroom situation was pretty bad. LONG line to use it but that's the issue any place you go. The mens bathroom door was open so you could see when they were peeing even if you were trying not too. All in all I had a ton of fun and my only true gripe was the unbearable heat in this place. Staff is extremely rude. Music was great! There is a older white last bar keeper that called security when we tried to move tables closer for a larger group. Paid to get in just to find out that atm doesn't work, got a pass to leave and go to the bank, security refused to take it at first, made me "prove" that I was inside and got the pass even though my group was inside. They should retrain their staff to be on the same page, if passes aren't accepted than why are they given? I drove over an hour to this place to celebrate a friends birthday. I would not recommend this place for groups, they are not accommodating. read more
