no food served the drinks were okay but the ladies were so nice. but when you're with good friends that's all that matters.

This used to be a tiki lounge. Now It's definitely a real dive bar. The drinks are cheap so it is a legitimate dive bar. The girls wear very short shorts, I guess you would say, that work here.

Its a chill spot. one or 2 bartenders are in a asshole mood sometimes. But i guess because if they don't shake their ass they dont get tips LMAO Anywho, Misty and Roxy are great..

Me and my fiancé went to this bar last weekend. It was a bartender there by the name of Jessica. That was so rude. I had never been so disrespected in my life. All because I asked her for two tequila sunrise's with easy ice. She made it but filled the cup with ice anyway. You can tell she had been drinking. So I proceeded to tell her that I asked for easy ice. She then Rolled her eyes and made a someone else drink. Then came back to us. She begin to make another one for us, yet again filled with ice. I said remember we wanted easy ice. Then had the nerves's to call us out of our name and say "Manigga" And said this is my shhh I can get you kicked out of here. Woww. I said you know what we don't want you to make our drink. We will go to someone else. She said this is my shhh. I can get you kicked out of here here. So the other bartender made it by the name of Marleen. Whom was very sweet. Yet Jessica still was starting drama w me on the side. I walked away and ignored her. I know a drunk when I see one. Marleen was trying to calm her down. Marleen came to Apologize to us for her behavior. Jessica She begin taking shots w one of the customers. Judging by her attitude I don't know which number of shots this was. So she went to the security. I guess she was mad that I was ignoring her actions, being the lady that I am. An made him really kick us out. Even after Marlene tried to tell him we were not doing anything. Mind you I had already met Marlene in the restroom. Didn't even know she was a bartender until this activity. That's is not okay w me. The manager still has not reached out to me.

Over 20 ice cold beers on tap. TV's everywhere for games and fights. Killer jukebox too.

I just kind of wished there was more tiki art in the main room where the bar is. But that's just me being a maximalist! I love tiki goth haha. There was an awesome playlist going and the service was great and attentive. We got the burger and Thai tea chicken salad sando. It was an amazing deal for all the food we got! It came with fries or mac salad. I ended up eating half of my husbands fries because unfortunately the mac salad was very underwhelming. It was very bland. We also ordered to virgin painkillers and they hit the spot! So good! All in all, this place was a cool vibe and we definitely recommend visiting. If not for the amazing lunch special, come for the live music to get a full on alt tiki vibe going on for a good time.

We parked in the multi-story parking garage behind Hamburger Mary's. Secret Island is a little over a block away. You can make reservations on OpenTable. It has a bit of a speakeasy entrance, as it is not plainly marked. Look for the staircase going down with greenery around it and the Secret Island sign downstairs. Go right at the bottom of the stairs and there is a little walkway where you see a very cool tiki display. It you stay there long enough, the lights will flash and you will hear thunder. Walk a little further and go through the door to enter. I was blown away by the atmosphere and build. Kudos to Bamboo Ben! It is dimly lit with a ton of cave wall, bamboo, thatch, netting, tiki lights, floats, skulls, tikis, and other décor. The bar is loaded with bottles and looks great with dark blue and green backlighting. The bar top is wood with deep cutouts that are filled with clear epoxy. The booths in the main dining area are little tiki huts and even have clouds overhead. There was great tiki music playing the whole time. A few times an hour a thunderstorm hits. The lights dim, lightning flashes with thunder sound effects, and red lights illuminate cracks in the floor that looks like lava veins. There is also a photo-op "Pele's Throne" which is a big lava rock surrounded chair. We sat at the bar and had the coconut shrimp appetizer ($12). The shrimp were breaded and cooked well, and had a coconut sprinkle on top. The spicy dipping sauce complemented the shrimp well. I started out with the Drunken Monkey (Makers Mark 46, Jamaican rum, banana liqueur, cinnamon, allspice, Angostura bitters, normally $19, $17 during happy hour). It was somewhat bourbon forward with a little funk from the Jamaican rum. I definitely got the cinnamon notes with a little banana and allspice in the background. She started out with the El Capitan Hook (Del Maguey mezcal, pineapple, banana liqueur, Luxardo cherry liqueur, lime, $17, $15 during happy hour). This was smoke forward with light pineapple and banana flavor. I had the Hula burger ($18) which was very good with a lot of different flavors from the various toppings. It came with a decent amount of fries, and was a filling plate. She had the pineapple bowl fried rice and added with BBQ pork ($17 + $5 for pork add-on). It is served in half of a scooped out pineapple and had a good amount of rice with pork and green onions on top. It had a good mix of teriyaki sauce on the rice and BBQ sauce on the pork. Next, I had the Rum Runner (coconut and blended dark rums, banana liqueur, raspberry, grenadine, pineapple, orange, lime, $18, $15 during happy hour). It was very pineapple and coconut forward which overpowered all of the other ingredients. She also had the Let That ManGo (white rhum agricole, coconut, mango, lemon, $18, $16 during happy hour). The primary flavors here were mango with some grassiness from the agricole. We were here from about 6pm to 8pm on a Wednesday night and it was pretty dead with only a few other people in the place the whole time. They do have a stage in the back with live music acts, so it is probably busier when there is entertainment and on weekends. Our first bartender was Alex who was nice but we barely talked with him. Manager Pedro took over the bartender duties later on and we had a great time chatting with him. Service was great from both of them. The drinks are a few dollars above average, but if you come during happy hour, the drinks are several dollars off. Happy hour is currently all day Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Sunday, and Thursday through Saturday from 5pm to 8pm. The food was good, the drinks were ok to good, and the atmosphere was great. Normally, this would probably be a one and done, but I really liked the build and would like to come back when it is busier, maybe on a weekend.

I also learned about these old fashioned stove/bbq thingys that used to be around in all the bars. I guess now it's totally considered a health and safety hazard so they don't use it any longer. What a shame. I bet some killer steaks came off of that grill. They also had karaoke! Yay! I was sooo gonna give them negative stars when I thought you had to pay by the song to sing. However, I found that it is free at the Hawaiian Room. I guess the KJ just charges at some other, way lamer location. What really makes this place a must see dive? The pièce de résistance was their "B" rating from the health department posted prominently behind the bar. Don't believe me? Check out the photo I posted on the review. But who really cares right? Unfortunately, the air conditioning wasn't working that night, and it was really hot inside. We sat in the corner at the bar, and one of the bartenders was nice enough to turn the fan on the bar toward us. I appreciated the effort, but at that point it was basically just moving warm air around. We also ordered French fries, but they never came. We asked about them and were told the kitchen might be backed up. After we finished our drinks, we were ready to leave because of the heat, so we asked about the fries again. They went to check, but there still wasn't an answer as to when they'd arrive, so we canceled the order. I don't want to be too hard on the place because the drinks were good, the bartenders were friendly, and the broken AC may have just been an unfortunate situation that night. We actually went to Twisted Tiki because Mission Control wasn't quite what we remembered, so I'm not sure I would make a special trip just for Twisted Tiki based on this visit. That said, we're fans of tiki bars, so if we're in the area again, we'll definitely give it another try. Hopefully the AC is working and the French fries make it to the table next time!
