I have been going to Human Designs (long beach) for 20 years, and Ron has helped me for the last 25 years. Twenty-five years ago, I had major accident and broke my left leg and my doctor recommended me to wear a leg brace in order to not fall and break the bone consistently. My doctor recommended me to Human Design for the leg brace. Ron is very knowledge in his field and always went out of his way to accommodate me. As time went by, my condition got worse due to post polio and my knee cap has worn out due to repeated use. I went to Human Design asking Ron once more for help, and he thankfully recommended me to Dr. Baumgarten who was confident that he could successfully operate on me. Other surgeons said that there was no "cure" for my medical situation (polio). The surgery was so successful that I deem it a miracle. I am now able to walk at home without a leg brace, and do not feel pain in my knee. This really was life changing. I am sincerely thankful to Human Design and their personal staff as well. Don't do it. Just go somewhere else. I went to this facility in December of 2020 for custom insoles that my doctor wanted. They advised I could pay all at once or once I got them in 2-3 weeks. I told them I'll just pay for it now. Insoles come in at the end of December, I get fitted and they sent me on my way. I take them to my doctor in January of 2021 and the doctor said they didn't listen to their instructions so I had to go back to get them redone. I get the new pair a few weeks later and again I'm sent on my way. Over a year later I get a statement from them saying I never paid for the insoles. Turns out the lady only did the copay and not the total. Not once when I was there did they say anything. So I paid the invoice on 8/26/22. Fast forward to 1/20/23 (a Friday) I get not one but 2 invoices from them for the same amount for the exact same price as I paid for last August. I call all the numbers on the forms and could not get anyone on the line. I leave voicemails (and have yet to get a response.) Then the next day I got another statement and on Monday (yesterday) I received another one. I'm up to 4 statements for the same thing and no one to speak to. The CHQ billing department number goes straight to VM. Save yourself the headache with this place and go somewhere else! read more

Very unprofessional and unreliable place. People with disabilities are sent here for help and the least they could is go a little over and beyond like actually answering phones calls and informing their patients when shoes or prosthetics become unavailable, YOU guys should call to let us know. Not the patients who have been waiting and now we are just finding out the news , then to be told that we can choose a shoe from a site they work with to only now be told they can't do this because they are under new ownership. EVER HEARD OF COURTEOUS calls, emails and mails about this change ? So unprofessional. Hire new people, get them trained. These people are literally the face of your now new company . Show that you guys care about your patients. You're literally dealing with people with mobility problems, disabilities,missing limbs etc all at your mercy so show that u care! read more

If you're sent here for an urgent situation, like needing a custom brace due to a fracture. Don't go here. They never have appointments available. I was going to give 2 stars but there was one specialist there that noticed the ridiculousness of waiting 5 weeks to be fitted for a custom brace and squeezed us in. Thank you! We were just going to pick up the brace and have our orthopedic doctors office help mold the brace because they wanted us to wait over 5 weeks for an appointment. Our doctor put in a stat order and they ordered and had ready the brace in a reasonable amount of time. When the brace came in, they told us it would be 5 weeks until a specialist could see us to fit us. What? We will be healed by then. They are changing their name or got bought out. They will no longer run as Human Designs going forward. read more

Human design, there's always a 25 minute wait on the phone, I have left several messages and no one ever called back. I hate I having to live with needing to go hear. I have got too change from this company. the worst serve in California. The do not care. they answer the phone and just put you on hold for long periods of time I see why one of the office closed. People worry about AI, but you have humans that will not work, lazy as ever. In eight hours they may answer the phone once. someone please refer me too a better place. read more

I skeptically decided to give this place a try after it was recommended by a therapist. First of all, good luck on finding parking. It's limited street parking on a busy main street and in a small residential area. It makes no sense that a place that offers prosthetics isn't assessible for people with disabilities. After my experience I believe every awful review about terrible customer service, fraudulent billing, and disorganization. Second, the staff is unprofessional and disorganized. I sent this staff all my insurance information and when I arrived they had no idea about a secondary insurance. I had to tell them to go back through their emails. The front desk girl, Naitica, took my identification card and insurance cards. I was there for an hour and she NEVER thought to give them to me nor bother to call to let me know it was still there (and I don't live close) They just were never going to contact me. Furthermore, when I raised this issue to the manager, she lied and told me they did call me. For the record, I had no missed call or voicemail. Also, if Nautica was gone the next morning when I picked it up, how the hell would she have even been able to ask her if she called me? Do yourself a favor and go elsewhere. This review is long overdue. I've been coming to the LB location for over 10 years. If it wasn't for Eric's expertise in prosthetics and Andrea's incredible knowledge of insurance companies, I wouldn't have all that I have now. From my very first visit, HD really empowered me as an amputee to get back out there and fight for what I deserve: a full life without limitations. When I first came here, my prosthesis was old and I'd still use a cane from time to time because I had no idea my alignment was off. Eric has worked with me over the years to resolve A LOT of the issues I was having. Today, I have no idea where the hell my cane is. Don't need it! None of this happened overnight (I suck at maintaining my weight) but Eric has always been patient and ready to help. Now as a new mom, I get to lift and hold my baby without the fear of falling or dropping him. As an AK amputee, that's a big deal. I owe a million thanks to this place. read more

Horrible service. Not at all what it used to be. They called me almost two year after, telling me that I owe them money for something it was paid in full and 100% out of pocket. They keep calling, and after two years I have no way to provide a receipt, but also they are unable to really prove I owe them money, which I'm 100% sure it is not the case. And now it is impossible to contact a real office assistant or technician at their offices (if they still have one). All the calls just go straight to an India based call center. Not to mention also, that the last set of orthotics they provided were not made in-house, so they are just a mere intermediary. Do yourself a favor and go to a serious place. read more

I had questions with 2 knee braces I purchased and billing questions. I called and left messages with the billing dept. but no call Back. I finally spoke with Rosie who confirmed that she'll look at my invoice and call me back. After 5 days I attempted to get in touch with Rosie and again, left her messages again. After 10 days and on hold for 15 minutes. I finally spoke with Rosie. Who was no help in resolving my situation. So I'm told I still have to pay for these braces that didn't fit appropriately and they are not willing to do anything about the bill Or take back merchandise they supplied that didn't fit appropriately. I'm more disappointed that I had to constantly chase to get in contact with her and then to know she couldn't do anything for me. read more

I went to them in extreme pain and no one was sure if they would be able to help. I had a fractured sternum and I went there and the person who helped me was so patient and so understanding. She went to get a certain brace and I put it on and it immediately relieved some of the pain and I started to cry. She was very knowledgeable and knew exactly what to get and was willing to trade it later if it was the wrong size. The office staff was amazing in making the appointment and got me in as soon as they could within I believe three days of when I called. Thank Goodness I was referred to them. I *never* use yelp, but the service I just received from Dominique S. was so above and beyond any customer care experience I've ever encountered in my entire adult life that I had to share about it. Not only did she offer tons of transparency and information about the process of being approved by insurance, she offered lots of hand holding and advice about actionable items to expedite my process throughout the entire affair. Additionally, she was excellent at following up and extremely patient and encouraging - she should literally teach courses in how to care for your clients. read more

This is for the review of how the front office/receptionist that handled my daughter's case. Took my daughter in for a brace fitting on the 19th of this month. Everything went smoothly. Jimmy took the cast for my daughter's brace and he said the brace should be ready in about 2 weeks since there was Christmas coming up. He said to make an appointment for about two weeks but I didn't necessarily had to make an appointment with him since he would be on vacation so i can just see Peter when I come back to pick up the brace. Made an appointment to come back on the 28th at 9am with Peter. I asked the front desk girl about payment and was told that my insurance covered 75% and I was responsible for $300 plus. She said I can either pay a deposit then or just pay the full amount when I come to pick up the brace. Told her I will just pay when I come back on the 28th. I asked if she will call me if the brace wasn't ready so I don't waste my time driving over.She said yes. Fast forward few days. I receive a call from the receptionist on 23rd of this month stating that I had a appointment coming up soon but I actually needed to pay for the brace partially before coming in to pick it up. I was confused since this is not what she told me at the office. I told her that I will call her back since I didn't have my wallet on me. I called back the office 20 minutes later and asked for the girl who had called me earlier and then they put me on hold for about 15-20 minutes. I hung up the phone since I couldn't be on the phone for much longer since I had to go back to work. I never got a call back. Now, my appointment was on 28th at 9am. I drove all the way to Long Beach with my child in the pouring rain. I check in and the girl that was there before calls someone up to see if my brace was ready to be dispensed. She gets off the phone and she proceeds to tell me that the brace wasn't ready. She said I need to pay partial or full amount for the brace... I was livid! So I told her I called her back on the 23rd and you guys put me on hold for 15-20 minutes. She apologized for that, however it didn't make the situation any better. Plus when she had me on the phone the week before, she didn't tell me that the brace wasn't even going to be ready on time. She said they didn't even send the cast out to be made since they were waiting for my payment! What the hell?! No one had the right sense to call me over the phone to provide this important piece of information?! They could have told me from the beginning, the second time when they called me on the 23rd or perhaps give me a call on the morning of the appointment that was scheduled to say.. Hey! Don't bother coming into the office to pick up the brace since it's not ready! In the end, I paid for the full amount and was told it won't be ready for another two more weeks and I had to come back again! So I wasted about 2 hours of my life driving back and forth in the pouring rain to Long Beach and also went into work late for this stupidity. Note to management: major gap in your process and communication. Fix it. read more

A year and a half later we are receiving invoices (addressed to our minor daughter) with no explanation of the charges (no date of service, service provided etc.) I am meticulous in paying bills and cannot remember ever receiving a bill save one that was paid at the time we obtained a boot from them. Initially they are telling us insurance will cover certain percentage and you just need to pay this much to brings the customer. I have had the worse experience with this company. They are sending me a bill from three years ago and when I call to try and take care of it I get hung up on. They are rude, unprofessional and do not return back phone calls. Rosie and Kimberly both were not interested in helping me. I even emailed them for assistance and nothing. Chris is my orthotist and he has gone over and beyond to make sure that I get back to my old self before my car accident! We have had several sessions to tweak my orthotics and he said he will continue until I reach my goal of running again. When I am discouraged, he ensures me that our goal will be met. In regards to the office staff, all of the ladies are excellent, but Mary is exceptionally awesome. She helps me 90% of the time and she is very accommodating when scheduling my appointments, and when answering my insurance questions. I will definitely keep my future business with them. read more

They send you to collections even if you paid. Then the collections harasses you and doesn't resolve their own mistakes. They hang up, don't call back and send threatening letters, even though I have credit card receipts proving payment in full. Never using them again, and I am warning you not to as well. read more

NEVER EVER go on a TUESDAY. They have 4 measly spots in their parking lot, so on sweep day there is NO WHERE to park. You would think that a prosthetic place would have better parking and access. This place is terrible. I have referral from my neurologist to get my daughter with a very rare condition called hemi mega encephalopathy, which affects the brain and cranium, But place canceled my appointment 3 times back to back the day before I was scheduled. The appointments they offered after cancelling were usually about 4 weeks out. Now my daughter is approaching 11 months and may not be able to be fitted with an orthotic. Which as per my neurologist was imperative to her proper gross motor skill development. I hold this place responsible for affecting my daughters health and well being. In my life I have never experienced a lack of compassion for an infant with a such a severe brain abnormality like my little girl. I would definitely avoid this place if you love your kids. read more

We would not recommend this facility if you are looking to fit your baby with a helmet. Initially, I was confused why I had to go to another specialist's office for my post-op knee brace (ACL tear, ugh!) But after having a thorough conversation with my practitioner (Eric) I felt confident I was in the best of hands! I play college volleyball and have been really worried about my injury. I wanted the best knee brace for my sport! Eric was so helpful and fitted me with the brace my doctor recommended. He also said to come in if I needed any adjustments. Now I can sleep at night knowing my son's will not be made fun of at least not for the shape of their heads. Thanks to ERIC and the Star-band helmet . I was blessed with twin baby boys, 1 baby was born with Plagiocephaly (flat head) and 2nd baby had a square head. I was told by the Pediatrician at around 8-12 months we can start looking into specialist. I took it upon myself to do some research I found if baby is 3-4 months old they can wear a helmet for only 2-4 months. I was so happy to hear of the short time they had to wear the helmet not to mention my husband _was not a fan of the idea!! 3 1/2 months later WOW what a difference no longer a flat heat it is nice an round and after 3 months no more square head. DAD is so proud and a big believer. If you or someone you know is born with a funny shaped head (not so funny) inform them not to worry just yet do your homework.I had a few issues with Insurance but it was well taken care of by the office staff and always with a smile. My brother was fitted with a artificial leg just below the knee. The staff was great. the man who worked with us is a true professional. The leg was great even though my brother has some problem areas just below his knee. He keep it for 3 years with adjustments as needed. A few days ago he received a new prosthetic because of his leg shrank some and it is even better. Great office, people and help available if you need it AND free adjustments to get it fitting correctly. they make appointments the day we got it to come back and make sure it fits perfectly. We received 5+ star service here! My daughter fractured her heel bone and needed to wear a post op shoe. No one (and I mean NO ONE) carried pediatric sizes. She has a fairly small foot and the smallest size at the pediatrics office was much too large and wide. On top of this its Wednesday afternoon and we were leaving for a vacation on Friday. We needed this shoe ASAP. Fortunately our orthopedists office recommended that we call Human Designs. I called and the girl who answered the phone was very helpful. I explained the situation and she said I needed to make an appt for a custom fit but that she couldn't get me in until Friday (too late for us). I must have sounded upset about the situation and was asking her for any other possible medical supply stores that may carry her size in LA/Orange County/San Diego. We needed this shoe! :) Someone in the background heard her talking to me and said they could squeeze in a fitting "today" right after lunch and that they could order the shoe to be delivered to them the next day. Yes! We go there right after lunch and then we met with Leo. Such a nice and patient person who took amazing care of us. He tried 3 different shoes and finally the last one fit perfectly. We didn't have to order a shoe and left with my daughter in the right size shoe. In the short time we were seeing Leo the staff had already checked with our insurance. Unfortunately our insurance did not cover the shoe but the price was quite reasonable. No price gouging here. The office isn't fancy but I did see that they were doing remodeling. I got the impression that their focus and main clients are older, disabled people. They were very efficient and I saw patients moved in and out with care. Leo took great care of me. First, he asked me to explain everything about why I was there. Then, he measured my leg and luckily they had my unloader brace in stock and I was able to get my fitting and go home wearing my brace. But that is not why I am giving 5 stars. I am doing that because Leo was the first person to give me any hope since I started this knee oa journey. I had to ask for my brace, my doctors did not suggest it, but they did say my pain was only the beginning and that I needed to make friends with my cane. But I was stubborn and I am so glad I was, because once I got to Leo and the brace worked, he explained it is a corrective brace and that there is hope of me not only getting rid of the cane but the brace as well. He also gave me detailed instructions about how to use and care for my brace and my knee, and instructed me to come back in any time if I have questions or need adjustments.
