Foodies will love this place! It's such a great experience walking into this Victorian house restaurant. Definitely gives you a historical Eureka feel. The food was amazing. Good wine selection. We had the escargot, yum! Had the table side Caesar Salad, where they cart out a big beautiful bowl and make it for you right at the table! Very good, especially if you like garlic. My main course was the lamb, cooked to perfection with a tasty sauce. The meal came with quinoa and braised greens, both really good. My boyfriend had the surf and turf, phenomenal! The dining room was really nice, had a atrium/al fresco kind of feel, with big windows allowing you to see the garden and the bay. I had the chocolate espresso torte, delicious and decedent. The espresso flavor was very subtle. Boyfriend's cheesecake was great too! Service was on point even for a soft opening. This place will do well and is a much needed addition to Eureka's restaurant scene. read more

A very impressive restaurant that delivered a thoroughly enjoyable and reasonably priced celebration dinner. The oysters on the half shell were very tasty kumomotos, the fish&chips and fish tacos were tasty, the fresh halibut done Asian-style was both well conceived and well executed, and the filet was marvelous! Lucked into this restaurant while road tripping. It had been a minute since I had a decent meal (and glass of wine). My husband and I both ordered soup-his was clam chowder, mine was tomato bisque, both were excessively peppery, but ok. He had a rib eye that was cooked to perfection-I was jealous and stole a good portion. I had the special, which was a seafood pasta dish. It was good, not great. The service was a little scattered and sometimes slow, but our server was very nice. I understand it's a fairly new restaurant, so I am sure the kinks will work out. Biggest drawback was the noise from a large drunk table nearby- the acoustics in the place were bad for that. Maybe an area rug or something that absorbs sound...the location itself was very lovely though and I was glad to have found it. read more

Meat is cooked perfectly. Basic French bread with oil and vinegar for the table which is not good enough for a restaurant trying to be this caliber. Service is waaaaaay too slow for the prices they charge. Wine suggestion was good for table. Expect to pay $80 to $125 per couple. read more

Nice place, very enjoyable staff, and the good was mostly good. Cheese platter was excellent, Cesar sails for two was great, filet minion and mashed potato was excellent, sturgeon was cooked perfectly and the side of rice was disappointing, like eating small pieces of styrofoam. All in all, definitely well deserved 4 stars. read more

We had a delightful meal here last evening. Arugula salad was bright, crisp and plenty for two to share. My husband had a filet mignon and said it was one of the best pieces of meat he'd had. The demi glace and mashed potatoes were delicious. My duck breast was wonderful, with a cherry infused reduction that was not too sweet, just complemented the perfectly cooked, tender meat. We finished with a lovely creme brulee and left very well satisfied. It was our first time here but we'll be back. read more

Nice setting on the Bay. When your dinner salad looks like it was prepped at noon, it's a sad start to your meal.....all in the party agree. I ordered fish and chips, good plate, but did not look like the serving on the website plate. I asked for malt vinegar for my fish, the server wasn't sure they had any........ well, someone came from the kitchen with a new bottle of four monks. Will rethink eating here again. read more

Tried Humboldt Bay Bistro for the first time last night....talk about EVERYTHING on point, down to the butter for the bread. Stopped on the way through Eureka and I was not disappointed. Great food, great service, and the building this restaurant is situated in is really cool (Note the staircase in the lobby that climbs into the ceiling, reminiscent of the Winchester Mystery House). My wife and I ate there last night. We had the crab cakes and calamari fries as appetizers. Both were excellent. The calamari fries were perfect, not at all rubbery. The crab cakes were delicious, authentic dungeness crab, no filler. I had the duck and my wife had the fish special which was opah. Both were great, particularly the fish. Very few restaurants seem to be able to cook fish perfectly, this was perfect. read more

Ok, short sweet and to the point. Wine, beer and sake. Don't think about a martini or a Manhattan, that won't happen. You will get a decent selection of wines and beer. The food is excellent, but not everything on the written menu was available. No French onion soup? It's on the menu, but not available. If you are lucky you can get one of the front window seats with a great view. On the downside, was the service. We arrived at about 5:30pm and did not leave until about 8:45pm. Most of the time was spent waiting for service, this should have been an hour and a half dinner at most. We had drinks, crab cakes, clam chowder and an entree. No dessert. Service was slow to say the least. This may have been just our server since we were able to watch other couples come in, eat and leave while we sat there. We had no time constraints, but taking this much time seems bad business. On the upside, if having a 3 hour dinner is your thing, this is the place to go. read more

Humboldt Bay Bistro. Prepare to be amazed ! From the first moment to the last. This feels like visiting friends who just happen to have a lovely restaurant on the Bay and who just happen to make incredible, tasty food and know what they are doing. Everything has been thought about. No other word for it: the ambience is sweet. The wait staff feels like a doting family but one who lets you breathe ! Want a non alcoholic cocktail to start? Try one of the Herbal Elixir Mixtures mixed with juice and club soda. Or anything from the bar. Appetizers are unique and imaginative. For dinner: Fish and Chips takes on a whole other meaning at the Bistro. As in: incredibly, indescribably GOOD !! FRESH !! Really quite brilliant. If freshly caught halibut is offered in place of cod--'take it !! Unusual, fresh, imaginative salads ..Entrees that are delicious and successful. Special touches everywhere ! French onion soup had no flavor. Ceasar salad was sour. Steak has too much fat and gristle. Waitress forgot parts of our order.

Went here for our anniversary dinner. 6:00 reservations. Got a drink at the bar and took it to our table. waited a little long for waiter, ordered appetizer and dinner. Finished our mussels, ( very good) and waited for soup and salad, and waited, and waited, dinner arrived. I told the waiter, I guess it's a little late now, but we never received our soup and salad. He said Oh, you didn't? How a bout I comp you a desert? We didn't want a desert and said so, he then looked at my husband and offered to comp him a beer, he chose to have a glass of wine. I looked at him, nothing, I wasn't offered anything. When he came back I ask that both of our glasses of wine be comped. They were. To be honest the food was very good. Here is the rest of the story, We ran into friends before we were seated, without our knowledge, for a anniversary surprise they wanted to pay for our dinner. They told the waiter to charge our dinner to them, paid for it and left. We didn't know, and our dinner tag came and we paid and went home. When we discovered the double payment, it took our friends a month, several phone calls and a some effort to get reimbursed for our meal. There was no apology, compensation or regret for any of it. Was disappointed in the waiter and the follow up customer service. I posted on their Facebook page, and within 15-20 minutes my comments and the comment of a friend that read and responded were gone, no longer on the site. I understand they don't want negative posts, maybe they should have messaged me with an apology and a free drink for all 4 of us. Would have gone a long way with little cost to them towards good public relations. read more

This place is a "must avoid". Food and service were both below average. And hey, I am not interested in even average fare when I go out to eat. Wait staff was nice enough but couldn't remember to bring our wine nor bread. Restaurants that don't bring drinks (pure profit) right away are not going to make it. Thankfully, we only ordered off the starter menu to sample their culinary capacity and we were under impressed. We tried the crab cakes, calamari, and the "table-side" caesar salad ($18). The crab cakes contained a generous amount of crab but they were soggy and oily and scraped haphazardly onto the plate. The calamari were also soggy, oily and uninspired. The caesar was brought to our table already prepared. When I asked why it wasn't prepared at the table as indicated on the menu, I was told they couldn't get the cart into the dining room! Okay...so how was the caesar? Think McDonalds on a ceramic plate. The dressing was bland, the parmesan was preshredded (rather than grated), and as with the other dishes, there was no attempt to provide an appetizing presentation. Dressing up your dishes is like dressing up for a job interview or first date...first impressions matter --- especially if there is no substance. And there was little substance in the starters we tried. read more

Where do I even begin. Christmas Eve/Birthday disaster. Was surprisingly not over busy that night so was shocked about the terrible service. Waiter forgot appetizer, never offered salad. Waited over 2 hours for our dinner (we were told we accidentally got orders behind the party that came in after us). When it arrived everyone in my parties food was hot except my filet. Sent it back without eating since already waiting too long. Calamari that was brought earlier was cold. My husband asked if it was fresh and the waiter said yes, they pound it daily only for the chef to emerge from the kitchen holding a box of frozen calamari steaks to "prove" not imitation. After this we asked to get the check and our waiter said "sure" and threw it on the table. In review, he failed to take off my filet that I took one bite out of and sent back. When my daughter went to talk to the manager, found out it was actually our RUDE waiter Tyler. He ultimately removed the uneaten meal from the ticket after arguing about it. As we walked out... best part he was in the back ground in a Chinese bow as we left. I waited to post this to discuss with the owners to try and make it right. They got back to me, but did nothing to make it right, except ask us to come in again. Not risking another terrible experiences and another $300.00 bill. Terrible customer service and RUDE manager. They will not be receiving your business again. read more

We went on Sunday night, it was our office Christmas party. The waitress was extremely friendly and courteous. The food was excellent. Several orders of the filet, from rare to medium were ordered. Each one was cooked perfect. The onion soup was a bit under salted for my taste but that is an easy fix and is better for a wider range of pallets without ruining the flavor. Chicken Marsala sauce was not the normal color expected but flavor was fantastic. In other words, don't let looks deceive you. I am kind of a clam chowder snob and chose salad, however others at the table really enjoyed the clam chowder. The lobster tail was cooked to perfection. The drawn butter was served with a tea light candle butter warmer which added class to the meal. I would change only 1 thing, not put brown paper over the white table clothes. The rest of the staff helped out and took care of any needs we had. As for time, we intentionally slowed down our waitress so that our party could visit between appetizers and meal. read more
