After finishing a five-mile hike at Peters Canyon, me and my honey decided to stop by Humboldt Juice Bar for a little treat -- and WOW, I didn't know this amazing acai spot was this close to home! My honey went straight for the coconut base, which I had never tried before. He let me sample a spoonful of his, and OMG... I'm officially obsessed. I've always been a half-and-half girl (acai + chia seed pudding forever), but this coconut base has changed my whole life. From now on, I'm a coconut-base girly and I'm not looking back! The bowls are super fresh, the flavors are so clean and satisfying, and it's the perfect reward after a good hike. We already agreed this is going to be our new after-hike routine -- he gets his sweet bowl, I get my coconut moment, and we both get to enjoy the cutest little local spot. Humbowl is still as great as ever with their bowls tasting amazing and their aesthetic store, but this time around what was missing from a perfect experience was the service. Usually the workers are very happy and generous but the two workers today did not look happy to be there. When I said thank you to the first worker who cut my fruit she didn't smile or reply and only looked my way. I said thank you to the cashier and again she just walked away without acknowledging my appreciation. Coming all the way out here is always a fun experience to get some flavorful acai with unlimited toppings, but today's experience made Humbowl a little less magical. Açai bowls ALWAYS come to mind after a hike. It's literally the only time I go out of my way to get one. After a long hike at Peter's canyon, my friend and I came across this place in a small plaza in Orange. Immediately, we saw a good number of people eating outdoors, and a small line inside. There were two employees inside, who seemed a little busy making togo orders. The menu was simple: açai bowls and drinks, with a pretty robust grab n go section stocked with health foods. We went with the açai bowls, which allowed us to choose a number of bases, which I went with acai and chia pudding, fruits like strawberries and banana, and nuts and seeds like pumpkin seeds. What stood out to me was the price, which wasn't as bad, and definitely on par with spots like Blue Bowl. The taste was okay, but I do wish the açai had a bit more flavor! Three bites into my bowl this morning, I realized there was no chia pudding. Oh No! (Totally different product and food experience without the chia pudding. In my opinion anyway.) I had not been asked if I wanted chia pudding, but I told one of the employees I had forgotten to ask anyway to put the blame on me. I asked for a side of some chia pudding and was told that was not an option. I asked if my bowl could be remade and was told I would have to pay for another bowl in that case. I saw the pattern quickly developing so I didn't bother to ask for a refund as I assumed I already knew the answer. Maybe I should have offered to pay for the normally included ingredient even though I had purchased a bowl less than 5 minutes prior and had not left the premises? Maybe that would have been a solution? If these are the owners policies, your policies should be revisited and your employees should be empowered to resolve minor issues like this. If this was the shift lead's on-the-fly decision, sometimes it is better to give a few ounces of a normally included ingredient to the customer regardless of who forgot to ask or what ingredient policies may be. All small businesses need as much business as they can get these days. Speaking from years of restaurant experience, simple situations like this have simple fixes that will keep customers happy and coming back for more. Customers leave disappointed with their experience and your product when little problems like this go unresolved. There is never a lack of customer options and competitors in the food world. Once I tried here, as amazing as blue bowl is, not only is this place is closer to me, but their coconut base is truly superior to every other BYOB acai bowl place I've tried. Their açaí blend was pretty good, but H O L Y S H * T, their pitaya blend was ABSOLUTELY FREAKING DELICIOUS. Easily the best I've ever had. The granola wasn't too shabby either. $14 may seem like a steep price, but they offer unlimited toppings and it was easily the best bowl I've ever consumed out of all the açaí bowls I've ever had.
