    Ramen in the making
    Jenn R.

Such a fun little spot! They have shaved ice and DIY ramen. We tried both when we went. We tried the mango and strawberry shaved ice. Both were tasty. They also have a wide variety of ramen flavors and toppings. The staff were also friendly and helpful with explaining the process and helping us make the ramen. You pick out the ramen packet, select which toppings to add, then place in this machine that dispenses the hot water. Really fun and different!

Amazing delicious new spot right by my house! The vibe of the place was very modern and clean. By far for service, it was excellent! Definitely will be coming back!

Went here for the second time and the workers are all so friendly and kind! :) Great bingsu, high quality and the fruit is always so fresh. Today my bf accidentally dropped one of the bowls into the trashcan when he was putting a tray away, and Daylene immediately came over so sweetly and got it, saying it was no problem. She was so kind, genuine, and light about it, warmly wishing us a good night. Definitely coming back for the amazing dessert and welcoming staff. Thank you so much for creating such a lovely experience!

The shaved ice was perfect for a hot day! The owner and employees were very nice! Servings were also very large.

Wow, so good! Great ratio to fruit to shaved snow! Come here, friendly folks! They recommended the strawberry and mango combo!

I ordered the Butaton ramen which had everything I like! Minus the bean sprouts. Pretty good bowl of ramen. The noodles were PERFECTLY al dente. The broth was good, but maybe a tiny bit too salty. You could definitely feel/taste the collagen in the broth which was nice. The pork belly was a bit tough and dry though. Portion wise it's pretty small. At first I was considering doing the lunch special where you can add a beef or chashu bowl for an additional $6, but I thought, "Nah, that's going to be too much food." I guess in the end it worked out. I was the perfect level of full/satisfied. However, if you're starving I would definitely recommend doing the lunch special. It's a nice space to dine at for sure! I enjoyed watching the cars/people flow through the Orange Circle while I was eating. Service was fast/friendly. No complaints there. A little steep on the price versus portion though. This meal was almost $24 after tip for a bowl for ramen. Overall, not bad! I've had much better elsewhere, but out of all the local spots I've tried around me so far, this one is definitely one of the better ones so far.

We got an order of hot sake, spicy miso ramen, and hanuman ramen. Spicy Miso Ramen- You get chashu, soft boiled egg, bamboo shoots, bean sprouts, and green onions. The meat is tender, broth has a good amount of spice, and the egg and veggies make it hearty. Butaton Ramen- The chashu practically melts at the mouth. The broth is creamy and savory. You get egg, woodear mushrooms, bean sprouts, and green onions add a variety of textures and flavors. House Sake Warm- At 7$ a bottle, this was a steal! It's smooth and hits the spot on a cold day. Great experience overall!

A Legendary Slurp - Gone But Never Forgotten It is a true…read moretragedy for the Orange County food scene that Hakata Ikkousha in Costa Mesa has closed its doors. This wasn't just a "ramen joint"--it was a masterclass in authentic Fukuoka-style soul food. The Broth: Liquid Gold The standout was always their Signature Tonkotsu broth. You could literally taste the 30+ hours of labor that went into it. It had that distinct "frothy" texture (the bubble of the bone marrow) that you only find in high-end Hakata shops. It was rich, creamy, and carried a deep umami funk without ever being overly greasy. The Hits * Black Tonkotsu: The roasted garlic oil (mayu) added a smoky, dark complexity that ruined all other garlic ramens for me. * God Fire: For those who like to sweat, this offered the perfect balance of heat without sacrificing the integrity of the pork flavor. * The Karaage: Genuinely some of the best fried chicken in the area. Massive, juicy thigh meat with a shattering, thin crust and that addictive spicy mayo on the side. * Customization: I loved that they let you pick your noodle firmness. "Hard" was the only way to go to ensure that perfect snap with every bite. The Atmosphere The Costa Mesa location always had a great energy--functional, clean, and unpretentious. The staff were always efficient, greeting everyone with a loud "Irasshaimase!" that made the experience feel truly authentic. It's heartbreaking to see such a high-caliber spot leave the neighborhood. If you were lucky enough to eat here, you know we lost a heavy hitter. To the team at Ikkousha: thank you for the memories and the best bowls in the city. You'll be sorely missed! Note: For those still craving that specific broth, their Torrance locations are still holding it down--definitely worth the drive to keep the dream alive. Come back to OC! !

Our server wasn't very personable but also not rude or terrible. I felt a little rushed even with a small menu. Being that I had never been there before, I wasn't sure what to get so I pretty much just blurted out whatever. What we ordered: 1) Black deluxe chicken paitan with pork - the broth was so tasty, it was absolutely delicious. The pork slices were generous, however, it was DRY. 2) Pork chashu - for my kid. They loved the broth as well and also felt that the pork slices were dry. I wanted to give 4 out of 5 stars, but I am going to hand them a 3. I loved the tasty broth, but the pork was too dry. How could you mess that up as a ramen restaurant? The portions looked a little smaller than what I am used to paying for much less money. That photo of my black deluxe chicken paitan with pork is very deceiving. It looks like a lot, but it definitely wasn't. I usually can't finish my bowl of ramen in one sitting and take the other half home. I barely had any broth in there, and being that the broth was very good, I was disappointed to run out of it before I was even done with the noodles and meat. Would I return? Sure. I liked the food. It's not a place I would go out of my way to eat at, but if I was around the neighborhood and wanted ramen, I would dine there again.
