We were excited to learn that there was a new French restaurant that didn't require traveling to the city. I wish I could say I was excited after dining there for the first time but I have to say I was left somewhat disappointed. I can overlook most things, but when dining out i go for the food. And the food was just OK. We started out with cocktails. Two of us ordered from the unique signature cocktail menu and one of us just decided to have their usual Kir Royale. Of these three drinks, the Kir Royale was the best. Neither of the others thought that their drink was so great that they would order it again. A young man showed up at our table with three small dishes, asking, "Are you familiar with amuse bouche"? Yes I am. I don't need an 18 or year old to try to make me feel like he knows more than I do. It was condescending at best and just pretentious. He explained it was compressed cantaloupe with a mint oil and a touch of salt. If I had closed my eyes, I never in a million years would have tasted anything except a little bit of salt and a little bit of water. It was flavorless. For appetizers, we shared the snails, the rabbit poutine, and the foie gras. Both the snails and the poutine came with a sauce, and the servers almost insisted on pouring the sauce over the appetizer. One of us opted to stop the server because why would you bring it on the side and then not let me elect how I want it on there. That just did not make sense. There's no theater here you're just pouring. The snails were served in a vol-au-vent and were kind of lost in the too tall puff pastry. Both the snails and the poutine were lacking some serious flavor. The best bite of the appetizers was the piece of foie gras which was served on a comparatively mammoth-sized sleepy zucchini bread and with pickled local strawberries. I didn't care for the combination and for the price, the two bite piece of foie gras was not worth it. (understand you can drive 3 miles to a restaurant that puts more of it on a burger for that equivalent price.-plus you get an 8 oz burger). The pickled strawberry did not work either. We also order the "bread service." I don't like paying for bread but was intrigued by the bone marrow butter upsell. For $20 you get 5 slices of bread, some salted butter, and at most a tablespoon of bone marrow butter. Skip it. Not worth it. For entrées, we ordered the salmon and the duck for two. The salmon was supposed to be seared, but the presentation side looked more like it had been steamed or poached. Perhaps they seared the skin side, but this particular diner did not like salmon skin, so that was lost on it. The diner did not like couscous, which was the side that came with this dish so they asked for the pomme puree as a substitute. The potato purée was also lacking seasoning and of course we got charged $8 for the substitution even though this potato purée is a side for other entrées. The server who took our order recommended the duck. I'm a big fan of duck so our other dining partner indulged me and shared this entrée with me. The duck came with two breasts, two confit legs, baby carrots, cooked in duck fat and a frisée salad. This was probably enough for three people because we took home 1/4 of a duck breast, a whole leg and plenty of carrots. The duck breast was well rendered of the fat, and the skin was crispy. I like a medium rare duck breast but the underside was very rare as if it was never flipped in the pan. The leg was delicious (probably tossed in the deep fryer before serving to crisp the skin) but the carrots were heavy with fat. Very little frisée was served (almost as a garnish ) and it really needed more of it that acid from the dressing to lighten things up. Again the server tried to pour the sauce that came with it over the breast without asking if I wanted it first. I stopped them because I know how much I want and I know where I want it. I don't need you to do that for me. One cocktail, one appetizer and one entree per person was $100 per person on average. No tax in DE Service here is amateurish with training. I have already cited a few things. The waitress who took our order poured water for each of us spilling a significant amount when pouring one glass, said I'm sorry I misjudged. Bad depth perception, she said and continued on with her opening spiel which we got to hear in almost the exact same fashion as she greeted other tables. No offering to change the tablecloth of its two foot diameter circle of wetness. She just kept it moving. We came dressed business casual. We were the best dressed there. Lots of shorts and casual wear. This is not a fancy place. People appear to come as they are. I just did not get that I want to come back here feeling. Service was not great. Food was just ok and not ok for the price. Atmosphere is more American bar than French bistro. I am not super charged to go back. read more

Came to celebrate our daughter's birthday, and this was our first time here. We started off with cocktails and ordered the rabbit poutine, bread & butter, and the tartine. The rabbit poutine was very good. The meat was tender and we loved the fries with the cheese curds. The tartine was tasty and we liked the whipped ricotta. The bread & butter came out warm and we loved the cultured butter. For our entrees we ordered the steak frites, crab ravioli, and the half rack of lamb. The steak frites were a very large portion and cooked perfectly, and we loved the crunchy fries. The crab ravioli was delicious and we also loved the clams. The Lamb was also prepared perfectly but we didn't care for the seasoning. For dessert we had pistachio brûlée and sour cherry ice cream. The ice cream and brûlée were very good and the brûlée was large enough for both of us. It would be five stars, however, the cocktails took a while and we were not informed the butter for the steak frites would be an additional $6 and $9 dollars. The entrees were already $44. The restaurant is beautiful, and the service was excellent. We loved our bottle of Cab Franc and also the Amuse-Bouche. Our daughter also enjoyed her comped birthday dessert. Definitely one of the best restaurants in Wilmington. We tried a broad swath of the menu: tartine, fois gras on zucchini bread, beet salad, steak frites, salmon, roasted carrots, zucchini. The good: I loved my cocktails (corpse reviver & ward 8). The fois gras appetiser was delightful. Steak and fries were perfectly done. Everything tasted good, full stop. Very nice inside, totally appropriate for date night and special occasions. Comped dessert without asking because of slow service. The bad: It was too cold (bring a cardigan), and I think our food cooled off faster than appropriate because of the cold air blowing. The middling: My companion was not wowed by her cocktails (clover club & miami vice). The co-ed bathroom is unnerving if you're not prepared for it. Getting menus, getting drinks & apps, getting offered dessert menus after we were finished eating, and then getting served dessert were all slow (although this was Saturday night and we were comped dessert as noted above). Lastly, it's one of the more expensive places in Wilmington. (Bite for bite, La Fia downtown is as good and more reasonably priced. But more cramped than La Fête.) read more

This restaurant is gorgeous. The decor and everyone has a style especially the hostesses. This really elevated the whole ambiance and the customers dress for the occasion. The food we had was fine. The mussles and frites were good, I would have thought the fries come with the sauce but they didn't. The risotto was slight malt under seasoned. The beet salad was really tasty! This resturant is always thorough when it comes to allergies. They have a hard time with the two server communication aspect. I've been here twice and both times they seemed one beat off from each other. Also for having two servers they don't check on you often enough. That could also be a communication/timing thing. (if you think someone else was there or not) we only ordered one drink because we didn't want to wait after we finished our food to order another. The drinks here are fantastic though. We dined for 2 hours and only was able to order one drink and apps. We probably would have enjoyed more but personally I didn't have to time sit any longer. Only open 5 months and wow La Fete sure impressed. We were a party of 5 tonight and we were impressed with the service dedication we witnessed from the entire staff. It was a true team vibe. The food and drinks were thoroughly explained to the most absolute detail. The bread and butter all homemade and absolutely delish. Tomato soup, lentils, oysters, escargot and salad all incredible. Wonderful ambiance (love the decor) and cocktail menu. French martini was so good! Our servers were very friendly, attentive and knowledgeable about the menu. Ordered the beef tartar which was delicious. Steak fritte and rack of lamb entrees were perfectly cooked and seasoned nicely. The chocolate mousse was (almost) too pretty to eat. One area for improvement would be the handling of seating request by host & hostess. Our table was obviously in a very high-traffic area next to the bar pass service station and bathroom walkway, and although we immediately politely asked about sitting instead at one of the 3 other 2-seater empty tables in the same section (it was a special occasion for us) we were told no they were reserved? Table 2 away from us sat empty the entire time we were there so was disappointing. A bit more flexibility or an alternative seating option would have made experience significantly better. read more

They wished me Happy Birthday upon arrival and gave me a birthday card! The decor is so beautiful and elegant. Even the restroom. It certainly brings an upscale feel. Next time I would like to sit at the semi circle booth tables. You need more than a party of three for those. My favorite dish was the Beef Tartare, Foie Gras Mousse, and Glazed Carrots. I would go back to have the Beef Tartare again, and try the Oysters and Dry-Aged Duck. The Porn Star Martini was delicious. Their drink menu has a lot of variety. I'm happy this new spot came to Wilmington. It's nice to have "Fine Dining" options close to home. I've been a couple of times now and really enjoy the beverage and food offerings. Overall, the service is pretty solid but always falls off a cliff at the end. Takes forever for the team to ask if you'd like dessert/after dinner drinks (they sometimes ask, sometimes don't), and takes a while to get the check. Both times our party was just sitting looking around wondering when it would come. Especially when coming for special occasions, it becomes awkward. This place can definitely be great, I like what they're going for but the service should be more prompt for the price. I look forward to seeing how they grow into sometime truly excellent. read more

I really want to love this place, and I'm hoping they're just working through some new-restaurant hiccups, but I felt generally meh about both my experiences at La Fete so far. The highlights: - Love the vibe and decor here, definitely a great atmosphere for date night or girls' night - Extensive cocktail menu sorted by cocktail era. I was thrilled to find a Jack Rose, one of my favorites, and La Fete's rendition was delightful. They also offer several mocktails and low ABV drinks, several of which my friends enjoyed - The Ratatouille appetizer. Perfection. The entrees I've tried were fine. Salmon has a nice crispy skin with a lemony couscous that was a solid choice. Friends enjoyed their steak frites. I didn't love their fall themed gnocchi; I was surprised to find that all of the gnocchi were fried. I also wished that the butternut squash played a stronger role. But the biggest concern? The service, though very friendly and helpful, was incredibly slow. My first dinner took 3 hours and I never even really had a chance to order a second cocktail (in part because I was worried I'd hold the whole group up waiting for it). On my second trip, we were more efficient in ordering and skipped dessert and still spent over 2 hours there. I did enjoy catching up with friends, but definitely would never try to book here for dinner before any other scheduled obligation. Overall, I'll try eating here again, but going to give it some time first. read more

We recently came for a dinner on a Friday night and we had a 7:15 reservation and were seated very promptly despite the restaurant being pretty much full. I'm not sure if this was because we were with a teen, but it was much appreciated. We had two main servers and both were incredibly attentive and welcoming. The service was absolutely 5 out of 5 and this was great. The main issue was that the restaurant was so loud I could only hear about 60 percent of what they explained about the menu, the drinks, and the food. Akin to La Fia in downtown Wilminggton, you need to order bread and butter here as an appetizer. There were two types of fresh bread with the heavy French butter. One bread was good but the other was really middling. As for the food, we ordered two main dishes and a mussels frites. The salmon was excellent, the steak frites were fairly good, but were medium rare side despite our asking for it to be more medium well to well. The mussels were well-prepared, but the butter sauce was incredibly salty and I was surprised at how the salt content was dialed up way too high. The fries were good. We also ordered two desserts and the chocolate mousse was pretty good, but too dense. I ordered an apple tart and it was not to my liking in terms of taste or texture, despite the clearly homemade ice cream being a good accompaniment. Despite the unevenness of the meal, we would come back. I hope they continue to make changes on the menu in terms of different entrees and more seafood dishes. read more

La Fête was an outstanding dining experience all around. I will touch on a few key points that made it stand out. I will also mention a few hiccups I noticed, but being such a new restaurant it was expected. First, I will talk about the atmosphere of the place. The restaurant was gorgeous. Lots of wide open space and minimal use of any walls. You could see the bar, kitchen pass and most of the tables. There were live plants and beautiful tile floors when you walked in. The silverware was very nice and all the dishes were unique and beautiful. Lots of uses of the color green and gold with some wood accents. Felt very relaxing, but elegant inside. Upon entering you are greeted by the hostess and what I assume is the GM Scott. Scott was a very pleasant guy. He was welcoming and warm. He had a firm handshake and great eye contact. Scott made you feel comfortable and like he could handle any issue you may encounter in your meal. Next, I will touch further on the service. Scott greeted us and seated us, then handed us over to Brandon and Carly. Brandon was a pleasure. What an energetic, kind and hardworking person. He clearly loves his job and hospitality. He helped me navigate the massive, but super unique and fun cocktail menu. The cocktails are split up by different eras with a few from each represented. Then they have their own house made cocktails with their own twists. Brandon helped all of us pick the perfect drinks. He took very good care of us. Carly was fantastic. She is a lovely young lady and has a great confidence. She explained the menu thoroughly and made wonderful suggestions. Both her and Brandon helped my guest avoid dishes and drinks containing pectin. She provided quick and efficient service. She made sure we always had water or anything we needed. Carly and Brandon together were a dream team! Now onto the food. We ordered the entire hot app menu to share and added on the salmon rillette. We also ordered the entire dessert menu to share. Everything we tried tasted fantastic. I will touch on a few standout dishes. Chef Kyah who made all the desserts and bread, did an unbelievable job. She killed it across the board. Made for the end of the meal to end on a high note! 1. Bread and Butter, the spelt sourdough was lovely. Nice crust and chew. The brioche was soft and melted in your mouth. The butter was amazing with the little bit of blue cheese mixed in! 2. Charbroiled prawns. Out of this world good. Big meaty and sweet prawns. Great char and seasoning. Sucking the head is my favorite, thanks for leaving the heads on! 3. Escargot Vol au Vent. First time trying escargot and I really enjoyed them. Soft and tender with a mild sweet flavor. The pastry and sauce were nice. 4. Moules frites. My favorite dish of the night. The mussels were sweet, tender and plump. The sauce was so bright and acidic. Dipping the crispy salty fries in that bright sauce was outstanding. What a treat! 5. Ravioles du Dauphiné. Second favorite dish of the night. One giant ravioli made up of little baby raviolis. It was unique and tasty. The corn filling was sweet as could be and I absolutely loved it! 6. Pommes Dauphiné. These were amazing. Crispy and soft inside. Tons of flavor. Reminded me of a smiley fry but 100x better! 7. Orange Crepe Cake. My second favorite dessert of the night. Tender and delicious while remaining light. Nice orange curd flavor and the marscarpone whip was smart. Very nice dish. 8. Chocolate Sorbet. My favorite dessert of the night. I love sorbet and chocolate sorbet was absolutely killer. Smooth and lucious. It had some salt sprinkled atop. Nice touch. Loved it so much! 9. Chocolate Mousse. Yum! This was rich and delicious. The madelines were a nice touch and played well with the cold mousse. 10. Raspberry Tart. This was fantastic. Buttery crust that melted in your mouth. Tart raspbery filling that played well against the meringue. Really enjoyed this one. Finally, to touch on some hiccups. We came on a Monday for a 6pm reservation and there were 3 of us total. They had 1 bartender working and we waited sometimes over 15 minutes for a drink. The service overall was fairly slow. We ordered 8 hot apps, 1 side, 1 cold app, and 6 desserts. They split it into 3 drops of food plus the dessert drop. We left just after 9. I felt a 3 hour dinner was far too long. Hopefully as staffing increases these wait times will decrease. Also the spaghetti alla chitarra looked a bit like mush. The parm on top was melted over as if it sat under the heat lamp far too long. That dish was disappointing as the flavor was there, but the presentation and execution were lacking. All in all, La Fête was a great dining experience and we will be back to experience them again as they hit their stride and the menu changes with the seasons. The dressed oyster with rosé sorbet was such an insane combo and it comes together beautifully. I don't eat chicken but my girlfriend ordered the Roast 1/2 chicken and she said, "this is literally the best chicken I've ever had in my life" and we are huge foodies. The Parisian gnocchi was cooked perfectly and the sauce it was in... my god, so good. Everything else we ordered was a very easy 10/10, steak frites, salad lyonnaise, and the tomato soup. We had a 5:15pm reservation but got there early (super early birds) and went to the bar for a drink. Everyone was very welcoming. Our bartender was very friendly and made us delicious drinks. We transferred over to our table, ordered 4 apps and the Branzino for 2. Brandon + Marcos were excellent and very efficient. Prawns with the heads (3) accompanied with a sauce on the side was very good (wished there was one more). Foie Gras - delicious, although bread could have been toasted a little more. Ratatouille with pancakes were superb and the star of the evening was the escargot with pastry puff. We were practically full after the appetizers but somehow made room for the Branzino served table side because it was so darn delicious. I did have two tiny bones in a bite but I didn't mind it much. All of the drinks & food was amazing and we will definitely return. It was a great date night and La Fête exceeded my husband's expectations (he was very reluctant to going) & I was very happy with our dinner experience. Amazing food and service! Walking into the restaurant the ambiance gives you a comforting and welcoming vibe with a definite upscale and class. The service was amazing, we had the pleasure of meeting Grace who made great recommendations of wine and drinks to pair with our apps and entrees. My partner dropped her silverware and within seconds a new one was on its way! We began with the oysters which were recommended by Grace and definitely a must have. They were the perfect size, because when it comes to oysters size matters. The beef tartar was the best I've had, and I always order the beef tartar wherever available. For entrees the chicken was amazing a perfect choice, crispy skin texture and meat was juicy and tender. We also had the ravioli and ratatouille paired with Mexican firing squad cocktail and a glass of white wine. Dessert was chocolate mousse which is a must go to for chocolate fans! First time diner at La Fete. The ambiance for the restaurant was happening and the bar was beautiful. Once we got the table, the waiter read the entire menu which was a little strange. He did suggest a few dishes but it was almost like he thought we had never been to a restaurant or forgot how to read. We had the Gnocchi Parisienne as an appetizer. The sauce was terrific, but the gnocchi were small and crisp like they were warmed up by a salamander or broiler. Not very appetizing. For a main course I had the steak frites. The steak was excellent and the béarnaise sauce yummy. The problem was the frites. They were pieces versus whole fries. And somewhat crisp on the outside but soft on the inside. I would guess they were frozen and not fresh. For $60 a person before tip and drinks, dinner was not worth it. I would go back for drinks at the bar and skip the restaurant. read more

This is an all around great restaurant that's as good if not better than the downtown offerings. I stopped in on Sunday afternoon before going downtown to a concert. The team ( Brandon and Carly) was attentive, had command of the menu and could provide detailed info regarding ingredients, chef's intent in pairings and overall feedback from previous customers. The interior is fresh and provides a great backdrop for a delicious meal. My steak was a perfect medium and the "Frites", fried in beef tallow, made for a memorable meal that I'd gladly return for. My partner's Tomahawk pork chop was equally deserving of an encore. We started our meal with the dressed oysters that had a unique citrus flavor that was truly unexpected but delicious. We completed our meal with the Crepe Cake Suzzette and raspberry tart accompanied by a freshly brewed cup of fine coffee. I wanted to know their source for the coffee but neglected to ask. Had a reservation at 6 pm. Seated immediately and given menus. The waitress took the order for water and then disappeared. Fifteen minutes later, no water, no waitress. A table was seated next to us after we were seated and had their water delivered and order taken (albeit by a different waitress.) We left and don't know if we'll ever return. We were sitting ungreeted for about 20 minutes, which is nothing to complain about, but I personally found it odd because we were sat immediately with a reservation. I wouldn't mind waiting in the lobby for a minute to give the servers time to catch up. This feeling was further solidified when it took us another 30 minutes to order appetizers and another 10 to get our drinks. When I finally looked at the time we had spent there, we had been sitting for an hour and a half without even putting in our entree order. When we were eventually greeted, our service was amazing and very attentive to a person in our party with allergies. Our server made it very clear what the person could and could not have which was greatly appreciated! But challenges arose again when our server informed us after 40 minutes of waiting for our entrees (we had been there for 2+ hours at this point) that our food was delayed and should take about another 10 minutes to come out. She apologized profusely and we reassured that it was fine and not to worry, but when it finally arrived, half of the tables orders was wrong. Most of us at the table have worked/are working in the food industry so we understand that things happen, and we didn't want to make things more difficult, so we just decided to let our server know, but to keep the food so we could just pay and leave. This restaurant has the potential to be great! The food was flavorful and they had a plethora of options so anyone could find something on the menu to try. The ambiance felt really nice and inviting, and their drink menu was really cool (they organize it by the time period in which the cocktail was made!), but our experience at La Fete was a little bit of a let down :( read more

We are vegetarians, were planning to order the potato gnocchi however they did not have that available and had "run out of it. " So we are just having a dinner of all the side accompaniments - no hot meal for us. Would not recommend to other vegetarians. read more

Just popped in for a drink and a quick bite at the bar. Atmosphere is wonderful, but kind of loud for intimate conversation. Staff was busy so maybe that's why there was a lack of personability. The amuse-bouche was seasonal, but I've never been given a sip versus a bite. Would love to come back and try more food options as the drink was a little disappointing.
