My wife and I found this restaurant highly rated on Yelp. We were going to the Kansas concert at the Grand Opera house. It was an easy walk to the Grand and highly rated so we were game. It's on the first floor of a hotel. We were greeted then shown to the restaurant. We had reservations at 6pm and sat down immediately. The vibe in the restaurant was great. We were greeted immediately by our server and a trainee. I ordered an old fashioned and my wife ordered a specialty cocktail. Both tasted great however, wait for the drink was excessive. The bar had an afterwork crowd and it appeared a bit understaffed. For my meal I ordered grilled octopus for a starter and I think it was one of the best I've ever had. Tender, savory with a really flavorful sauce. My wife had the Ricotta focaccia. Loved it. For dinner I had the pasta with mushroom and truffle. It was amazing. Temperature was perfect. It was hot, creamy and amazingly flavorful. My wife had the bream fish dish. She enjoyed that as well. For dessert we had the almond/chocolate tort. I have wanted to try this restaurant for a while. We go out weekly with our friends and people in my building on the riverfront. We tend to be more casual however my niece wanted to celebrate her birthday. Our server Eileen was very pleasant. We were also brought to the table by Mia who was so personable and explained the menu. First, is the constant yelling to the men who were preparing meals by I think was the chef. He was overseeing that meals were prepared but I kept thinking he was arguing with someone. My easy peasy drink was great. I had the lobster linguini, I think there were 4 nickel size lobster pieces in the linguini , linguini was not Al dente, overcooked, and the flavor was non descriptive. If I served it , even on a weeknight at home I'd be apologizing. My husband had the durado , he said it was so so, my sister thought her meal average and named several other places we had eaten that she would prefer, my niece had the pork , no rave review. The flourless chocolate cake was good. I was told cheesecake ok. The price was moderate, but I have paid a lot less for a lot better. When I read how the meals were prepared and ingredients I thought we were headed into a very special dinner. They were a great spot for our larger family brunch on short notice. The restaurant and hotel lobby are gorgeous and very retro. They also had a really fun brunch menu, the only thing lacking was the execution on some of the food. It was all good but not amazing. The eggs Benedict was unique with the extra fluffy hollandaise but it was overly citrusy and salty. I liked that it had the option of a side salad. We also got the beignet to share and they were way too dense to be called a beignet. It was a powdered sugar scone. Good but not a beignet. Ambiance is amazing, really comfortable and pleasing to the eye. Service was good. We arrived after the lunch crowd, about 1pm, and we were seated quickly, it took a little while for someone to approach us for our beverages. We both got the Wagyu beef burger and it was done as requested, medium rare. Taste was good but seemed a little dry even though our fingers were covered in oil. I understand that Wagyu is a more lean form of ground beef so I will say it was as I should have expected. Overall an enjoyable experience, the courtyard was cute and a nice place to sit. Very cool ambiance/vibe and nicely spaced out restaurant (hate an overly crowded space where you feel like you don't have elbow room with the table next to you). There was a nice patio area but it was a little warm so we stayed inside but on a nice day it would be gorgeous to enjoy your meal and drinks out there. We visited on a Sunday afternoon. I had the eggs benedict, a gin cocktail and glass of white wine. The eggs benedict were good but they are served on a bisquit that was a little dry and for my tastes, a little thick at over 1" thick but the potatoes/home fries were REALLY good and crispy. The cocktail was really tasty and fresh and not overly sweet which I really appreciate. Only thing I'd ding the restaurant for was we used the valet parking because finding parking on Market Street can be difficult and the parking garage on Orange was closed that day and since we were in during the brunch window, we weren't told that the valet guys leave and change shifts during the window we were leaving so we followed the directions to get our car back and after waiting about 20 minutes we came back in and asked about that and were then told, that the Valet employees were between shifts and would start back up at 4:00 (for the dinner shift). If we had known we would have stayed inside and maybe had another drink or at least stayed at our table and waited in the air conditioning. So just a communication thing that the restaurant should have advised us on. I'd go back though to check out the night fare. read more

The atmosphere is great, service was wonderful, drinks at the bar before dinner were very good as well. I genuinely can't say enough about how beautiful this restaurant is. Just very cozy, romantic. Definitely a great place for a date or cocktails after work. But let's get to what we're here for... The food. I would give this place five stars, but there were some food items that were just flat out not very good, and I do have to say something about the pricing. This is a mid to upscale restaurant, so that's what you're paying for. Now let's get to the good and the bad of what we ate last night. Let's get the bad out of the way because there weren't too many bad options. $16 - Potato Quoins: So I'll tell you right now you can definitely skip the Potato Quoins. They are literally dense hashbrowns with a dill crème fraîche sauce. They were really oily, and didn't have much flavor. $18 - Pan Seared Scallop: No, your eyes are not deceiving you. That is a singular scallop lol. You are paying $18 for one scallop to come out on a thin rice cake with a brandy sauce. And to make matters worse, it was very average. Definitely a waste of money, would not recommend. $28 - Fettuccine: You can pass on this one as well. You could probably make better fettuccine at home (and boxes of it for the price lol). The sauce tasted watered down, and the shrimp tasted very "fishy". No food poisoning to report though so maybe the shrimp just wasn't super fresh. $24 - Lasagnetta: This one isn't really ranked as bad on the list, but it's not one of the better dishes either. It was pretty average. Again, not worth $24, but it was good. The béchamel sauce was delicious, but overall the majority of the table thought that wouldn't be one we would've ordered again. OK, enough with the heavy! Let's get to the good stuff! $24 - Crispy Octopus This one wasn't bad enough to be put on the bad list, but it's also not great enough to be the best dish of the night. I would say if you're an octopus fan and come hungry, go ahead and get it, but otherwise you can get better octopus elsewhere. I've had better, but it was different. I feel like if it was a little more tender, this would be a must get when you come here. If they can just enhance the flavor, a little bit, this would be higher on the list. $32 - Pappardelle Now, while earlier, I said, the price is a little ridiculous for the portion size, I still stand by this. However, this was one of the best pasta dishes of the night. So is the price justified because out of everything we got it was the better dish? Still no not really, however, if you're going to the restaurant to eat pasta and are fine with the pricing, you have to get this one. It's creamy, with a hint of sweetness. They make a great ragu. $26 - Casoncelli This was the second best pasta dish of the night. If you don't know what casoncelli is, just think of it as an Italian potsticker haha. This dish melts in your mouth, and this restaurant definitely knows how to use it sage. They put it on a lot of their dishes, but they perfectly crisp it and it really enhances the flavor. $28 - Crab Cake This was something we were hesitant on ordering at an Italian restaurant, however, by all accounts, it was delicious! Nothing special to say here. It's just a damn good crabcake haha! $18 - Burrata Piadina Now this... This was probably my favorite dish of the night. I was expecting a flatbread, but the way they serve it. It's more of almost like pita bread, and you scoop the burrata and sauce on it. The flavors were just amazing. The tahini gave it a kick, and the cucumber balanced it out perfectly. A great combination of crunchy and soft. If you want an app for the table, you have to get this one. So overall! This was a great dinner. We had a great experience, Service was fast and well paced. Now that we practically tried the majority of the menu, we will definitely be back making the adjustments from what we know now. I would say your safest bet for your first time here is to stick to the appetizers and then maybe share one of the entrées. That way you don't completely put a hole in your wallet, and you're not disappointed if you get something bad. Oh, I almost forgot! We chose to valet the car because there was almost no street parking. Valet with tax came out to about $23. read more

My husband and I had dinner at the Quoin Restaurant (the restaurant inside the stunning Quoin Hotel) this past Saturday, and it really was a fantastic experience. We started with a tuna crudo with melon that was bright and absolutely delicious (one of those dishes that you fight over the last bite of). Then it was two portions of their Grilled Gem Lettuce Caesar (with sourdough croutons and Parmesan), which was a great version of the salad I love. Next, it was their mafaldine pasta with Manila clams, pistachio, serrano, and lime, which was delicious and unexpected (lime and serrano on Italian pasta? but it works!). For our main, it was the chicken and herbaceous gnocchi with gigante beans and cipollini. This is one of those dishes that proves people wrong when they say chicken is boring. Chicken is boring when it's not that good but it's a standout, a jaw dropper, when it's good. And this was very, very good (tender gnocchi, crispy skinned but entirely juicy chicken, and I will never complain about a cipollini onion or gigante beans). We had one more side - their Maitake mushrooms with bagna cauda and truffle vinaigrette. The mushrooms were cooked beautifully - left in big chunks and seared hard. Unfortunately, our eyes were a little bigger than our stomachs, and we didn't save room for dessert, because they sounded great (the table next to us ordered two). We also enjoyed our drinks (cocktails for my husband, mocktails for me since I was the driver home to Baltimore after our dinner). The restaurant is beautiful, too - the hotel is historic and was renovated wonderfully (maintaining so many historic touches while making it entirely comfortable). The service just added on to what was a great meal. I can't remember our server's name, but she was just wonderful - friendly and helpful. Overall, it was a fantastic meal. Very nice restaurant connected to a boutique hotel & a speakeasy in the basement. They do have valet parking if you aren't able to find a spot along the main drag way. We visited the speakeasy in the basement (Simmer Down) for a pre-dinner cocktail then went up to grab seats at the bar. The restaurant isn't very large but has ample seating & you did have a view of the kitchen & all the dishes being prepared. The bar area was large and full when we visited. We were greeted quickly & throughout our visit the service was very good. They were busy, but yet attentive. Ordered two drinks that were delicious (Elysian Martini & a Sidecar). All of the drinks were interesting & intriguing. Ordered the fig piadina as an appetizer & it was delicious. The crust was soft & the flavors worked well together. This was the perfect size for an appetizer & was shared by 2 people. For dinner, we ordered Pappardelle & the Wagyu Flank steak. Both dishes were fabulous. They were also a great small meal portion (don't expect an overflowing plate). The flavors were great & the presentation was lovely. Wasn't planning on dessert but saw the Quoin Sundae with olive oil gelato & was intriguing so we went ahead and ordered that. Wowzer! It was delicious! It was such a light & refreshing dessert that wasn't overly sweet. The grapefruit sorbet & the other additions to the sundae were fantastic. A great place to eat. Would visit again. My friend and I came here for dinner Friday night. The hotel apparently used to be a bank and got turned into a hotel/restaurant. Inside it is very beautiful. We took the elevator to the top floor to check out their rooftop bar! Very spacious and not a lot of people. It was still happy hour so we ordered some cosmos and were told they would bring it to us outside. We waited at good 20 mins for our drinks which is a bit odd since there wasn't that many guests at that rooftop. We had to rush to drink our drinks, pay then head downstairs for our 6pm reservation. We were greeted by a friendly hostess and shown to our table. We were seated at this curved booth where they took the table out so it's easier for us to slid in. It was odd but I guess a good sweetheart table that we could look out (oh a table to lock us in if we decided to run away haha) Our waitress was very nice and explained the menu since it's both our first time there. We got some drinks (drinks are excellent here btw! But pricey) an ordered a bunch of food to split. For appetizers we got the crudo and grilled octopus. Crudo was excellent tart but savory. Melt in your mouth. The octopus had a great char the octopus was on the saltier side. It was painted with hummus, chickpeas and celery which was a bit old but took away from the salt. For a pasta we got the squid ink with calamari. Calamari was cooked beautifully but the past itself was way too lemon. The lemon taste took over the whole dish and we couldn't taste the other components in the dish. The branzino was our entree for the night and was presented very nicely (like the rest of the food it looked very nice but each seem to have their own issues). Branzino was good but a bit on the salty side as well. For a restaurant that didn't have that many people it took forever to get all our food. Our waitress did a great job with up selling (got the drink at dinner and an extra appetizer because of her) but we had no room left for dessert. It was very pricey meal overall but I get it it's supposed to be upscale. I expected more I guess if I'm paying a bigger price tag? It does look nice to grab a drink and some bites for happy hour but that's about it. read more

The food and service was amazing ! We got the focaccia bread as an appetizer. The ricotta was so creamy but had some heat from the calabrese honey. We got the pappardelle in the duck ragu and wagyu flank steak as entrees. The duck ragu is one of the best pasta dishes I've had and the steak was cooked perfectly and had a nice char on the outside. We got the potato quoins as a side they were very crispy and you get a lot of them. We ended dinner with the sticky toffee pudding with the ginger ice cream. A nice atmosphere, especially If seated near the open kitchen where the thrill of meal prep keeps you salivating-ly entertained. The service felt personal, whereby my cup was always full- the gentleman pouring felt like the PRINCE (the purple one) of sommeliers. The food, however, more hit or miss w/ dishes like the Crispy Octopus having the nicest firm texture (highly recommend) & other plates like the Tortellini, DOA, cold & somewhat mushy. The small plate costs are high for this type of inconsistency. I also found the flavor pairings a bit muted for my taste. The opulent lower level bar/lounge makes you want to hang around after dinner; I'd be a liar if I didn't say I had a nice time. But this foodie needs the dishes set before me to match the aesthetics- the high promise of the menu price & description, in order to to be satisfied. read more

Very very strange experience. Went for Sunday night which is the limited menu as shown. First of all, the ambience is beyond lovely. The drinks, the wines and the appetizers were stellar. I tried to order the only vegetarian entree on the menu - artichoke pasta - and they ran out so turned it into a wild boar pasta instead. I asked for something else vegetarian and they had no options other than what I already ate. The place has unisex bathrooms. And they can't make offer a vegetarian entree - are you serious? They offered to make me a salad after I just finished a Caesar. Beyond ridiculous. I'm sure it's lovely on other nights but this visit was like a strange time warp and you have one chance to make a first impression. I left not eating dinner when we really wanted to eat and drink more. A shame. But guess what? They did bring the wild boar pasta out to the vegetarian - see photo. We were in town visiting GF's family and met up with one of her old friends for dinner. She is very well acquainted with the area's food scene and provided a few options for us to look into for our dinner together. The Quoin won the ticket mainly because it provided the best vegetarian options. Supposedly, it is owned by the same people who own W. M. Mulherin's in Philly which I absolutely adore. This was on a Tuesday evening during the holiday season on a particularly cold day and there were plenty of tables available. The ambiance is warm and inviting. I really like the interior aesthetic which includes an open concept kitchen. We sat at the bar and the bartender provided excellent service throughout. The cocktail menu was creative but I didn't know most of the ingredients listed for many of the cocktails. Not only am I a foodie bitch, but I also have previously been a bartender and have quite the bar at home so I am typically on the more educated side regarding cocktail ingredients. They must have made some of that shit up lmao. I kid. I ordered something with gin, lillet blanc, lemon, and some other shit and it was very good. It was so good, in fact, my two dining companions proceeded to order it for their next round and then one of them followed it up for a sequel on our third round. I like to switch it up and ordered their tequila cocktail (this is one where I don't think I recognized any of the other ingredients) and this one was disappointing. For some reason, there was only one menu for the 3 of us to share, which was a challenge. If you are a vegetarian that doesn't like mushrooms, there is one dish that isn't an appetizer to order so that was an easy decision for me. I gave the reigns to my dining companions to order the rest and supported their decisions: proscuitto pizza fritti: for some reason, we were all expecting an actual pizza here but this dish is just fried dough with a pile of proscuitto and a drizzle of balsamic and something white, presumably the stracciatella. The fried dough was good as you can't really fuck up fried bread but otherwise this was quite disappointing. maryland blue crab crositini: not for me but GF and other dining companion enjoyed. When asked now, GF says "delicious". She provided more details last night that I swore I would remember but as probably everyone saw coming, I do not. grilled gem lettuce caesar: I tend to not be particularly partial for grilled lettuce but this was better than my previous experiences. The dressing was tasty and this was a nice way to shovel some veggies down there. potato quoins: spectacular. fantastic. crispy on the outside. warm, luscious, and deliciously seasoned potato on the inside. The accompanying dill creme fraiche really hit the spot. Must order in a restaurant named after this shit. For my main I ordered the campanelle, the only vegetarian dish without mushrooms. I'm grateful they even offered this because many restaurants just assume every vegetarian must eat mushrooms. The campanelle is served in a pecan pesto with delicata squash. This was a highly unusual pesto and while I think the original basil is the OG, this was an interesting twist. Providing bread for the table is a lost art and would have been an excellent vehicle to soak up the extra sauce. The portion was also quite generous. The pasta itself could have been a touch more al dente. GF ordered the tortellini with a truffle sauce. When asked, she says "DELICIOUS" more emphatically than for the crostini. She adds that the truffle flavor was applied well, not overpowering. Her main criticism is that the portion was severely lacking. She actually ate at least 1/3 of my pasta because there were about like 5 tortellini on the plate. It did feel a little skimpy given the $24 price tag. Other dining companion ordered the half pound dry aged burger. She reported at the time that it was overcooked above her request for medium. This was served with quoins as well instead of fries. We had a very enjoyable meal here, excellent food for the most part but a few details that could be ironed out if they're looking to provide that perfect dining experience that the prices on their menu suggest. read more

Dined on a Friday night around 7:30. It wasnt too crowded. The restaurant is very nice, dimly lit and looks upscale but casual attire is acceptable. The menu is on the smaller end with crostinis, small plates (which include a couple salad options) and larger plates. There are some vegetarian options but not much if you are vegan. The server also noted that some of the plates could be prepared vegetarian. The food was good and the ambience was nice. We also headed downstairs after our meal to the speak easy in the underground level. Very nice place for drinks and conversation. A fireplace in the back and music playing. Quoin - A Millennial Yuppy Bar Overpriced drinks and food, small portions, nice decor, dim lighting, hard-to-find bathrooms, and fairly good waitstaff. My eggs Benedict were abysmal. The eggs were soft-boiled, not poached. And they were not even large or extra-large eggs. They were quite small, almost like duck eggs. And they were served whole - round and firm, so they kept rolling off my plate when I tried to cut them. The "Canadian bacon" was a micro-thin wispy slice of ham. The hollandaise sauce was watery, and the tiny drizzle I got couldn't have been more than 2 teaspoons. Finally, this travesty was served on biscuits, not English muffins. My portions were so small that I ate an hour ago, and I'm already hungry. There is no sign indicating where the bathrooms are. They are hidden downstairs, so they are not handicapped accessible. You have walk down two VERY dark hallways find them. There are no Men's and Women's bathrooms. The facilities appear to be unisex - but there's no sign telling you that. The facilities are just a row of booths with toilets in each booth. There are two handicapped-accessible booths, but they aren't labeled as such. The remaining booths are so small that to get out of them, you have to straddle the toilet while you open the door to get out. When I use the bathroom, two of the three soap dispensers were empty, which made me wonder if the waitstaff washed their hands with soap before returning to work. Prices were 50% higher than usual for food - and small portions. Cocktails were twice the price of usual mixed drinks. There was an excellent variety of boutique cocktails available, with many different flavor combinations you don't usually see. But $16 for one cocktail is a pretty steep price. The Coke I got was served from a can, not the fountain. And if you like Coke, you know that nothing beats the fresh-tasting fountain-poured version. So even that was disappointing. We (we are seniors) had an early reservation and asked to be seated in a quieter area but ended up close to both the kitchen door and the open kitchen which is very noisy. The waiter was attentive but kept thanking us for our patience because the time between ordering and in between courses was quite long. The wines were very good. I had a Wente Cabernet. The charred Caesar salad was excellent as was my husband's swordfish. My flank steak was closer to rare than medium rare and was extremely chewy and without flavor. I left most of it on the plate. The waiter said he would inform the chef . The hostess asked us about our experience and said she would make it better the next time. I doubt that we will return. Just not for us. read more

We ordered the octopus, tuna tartar, ricotta tortellini, swordfish, grilled Roma beans, and the whipped ricotta. Every dish was absolutely perfect! Our drinks were nice and strong. Good quality stuff. The complimentary bread was sourdough and the butter was nice and creamy. I ordered the clams casino which were pretty good. My entree was the Cornish hen. It was a little dry. It was served over sweet potato. The kale was very salty. But once you incorporate am of the flavors into one bite, it was decent & savory. The service was great! The ambiance was nice-- it was dark, convivial but it was a bit hot inside temperature-wise. The cocktails were really nice, Earl of Grey and a vodka drink I forgot the name of. The pappardelle was delicious, didn't get a photo. I wish it was entree sized. I recently visited The Quoin Restaurant on December 31st with my sister, eager to celebrate New Year's Eve. While the venue's aesthetics were impressive, our experience was marred by several issues. Upon arrival, multiple staff members questioned the presence of my service dogs, requesting certifications and paperwork. According to the ADA, businesses may only ask if the dog is a service animal required due to a disability and what tasks it has been trained to perform; they cannot request documentation. This lack of awareness was disappointing and increased my anxiety. Additionally, comments from other patrons about the presence of my service dogs at times made us feel either unwelcome or pressured to permit people to pet them. Mind you my service dogs are well trained and tethered to me 100% of the time. I'm also a teacher and they are in the classroom with me at all times. This isn't their fault or mine. We left before 9 PM, unable to enjoy the evening as planned. It's disheartening that a venue with such potential lacks understanding of ADA regulations and inclusivity. read more

We stopped into The Quoin for a quick brunch prior to our Amtrak train from Wilmington station. There was not much open on a Sunday afternoon in Wilmington. We were in abit of a time crunch, but the service was prompt, and that put us at ease. The restaurant was really nice! They have a beautiful open kitchen with wood fires. It is a soothing sight. The decor is stylish and modern. Even at brunch, it was dimly lit in there. The waitress took our order right away. We ordered avocado toasts, home fries, bacon and orange juice. The food was quick to come out, and everything was very fresh. The avocado toast was really good. I also loved the side salad. The bacon was standard, but the home fries were really awesome. They were perfectly crispy and had flakey salt. They give ketchup in tiny single-use bottles, which was cute and sanitary. Overall, we thought the food was delicious! We would come back again if we were in the area. They give you the option to pay your bill via QR code through the Toast App, which is very convenient and quick. read more

I always have the best experience at the quoin! Our second time here and it is our favorite special occasion restaurant. The food here just makes you happy. The menu is set up in 3 courses and the delivery of each course is expertly timed. The menu is seasonal and is always changing but I will say every pasta dish here is a no brainer, you have to get at least one! To start we ordered the Maryland Crab Crostini and it was phenomenal! Perfectly executed with lump crab but still well balanced with a creamy sauce. For the middle course we ordered 2 seasonal pasta dishes and the flavor profile of both blew me away! If I ever see wild boar ragu on their menu again I would order it in the blink of an eye. For the final entree we ordered the pork shank which came with the best kale side I've ever experienced. A pro tip from the water was to order a small first course item to come out with the entree to have an additional side which we of course did! The potato side was a perfect addition coming with a lemon dill sauce. The food is good but the vibes are even better! A beautiful mid century setting with a grand bar and great dinner music. The wait staff changes your plating and silverware in between each course. This is such a great dining experience if you're comfortable with the price point. The three star rating is just for the restaurant ambiance and menu design. The restaurant is beautiful. The menu, on paper, is perfect. Besides the drinks, the execution of the menu is severely lacking. It's like the chef wrote the menu and walked out without training anyone. We were 10 mins late and the host was like - your reservation was at 6pm. I'm not sure what we can do. He literally said "we might have to pivot". It was just an odd way to handle our tardiness. My pasta, texture wise, was great but it was salty and so greasy. Another pasta dish was too buttery and was barely warm. Dishes came out at odd times (not too far off each other but enough that it was awkward). Our waitress insisted that the plates were meant to be shared even though they are small portion sizes. She also moved our dishes around the table, telling us, who ordered what, even though we were supposed to be sharing anyway (diff people brought diff dishes to the table at diff times). She brought to go containers for us and when we hadn't put our meals away, she insisted she do it for us, and then placed the big bag right in front of my husband on the table. Kinda rude. We also had a difficult time getting more drinks at the table. Def a place to go for drinks, at either bar, but as for dining, not a great experience. read more
