Imo a restaurant only gets 5 stars if they do something better than anyone else out there, and Hummus Cuisine deserves that distinction. These were easily the best falafel I've ever had. Honestly, other falafel are pretty much ruined for me. So light, so crispy on the exterior, so soft and flavorful on the inside. You SHOULD drive 30 minutes for these falafel. The owners of the truck (at least I assume they were the owners who served us) were so nice, too! You could tell they had a lot of passion for what they do, everything homemade, and the falafel weren't fried until ordered. The location itself is very "Austin", the grassy/gravely side of a parking lot. It was incredibly windy the day we went, so we actually took the food to Lustre Pearl's south location to eat, which probably gives better "vibes", but there are a handful of picnic tables next to Hummus Cuisine, so you can eat there if you like. I had a craving for gyros and found this food truck. They have good food but not enough of it, especially for what we paid. Prices have gotten pretty steep for barely any food nowadays. When I would order gyro wraps/sandwiches in Chicago you would get a pita stuffed with meat falling out plus fries and a drink and wouldn't pay over $10. If I were to have gotten some fries and a drink with it then it would have been better but all you get is a skinny long wrap and thats it. The service was great, the food tasted good and the lady was nice greeting us with a smile but not worth going back and paying that amount for just that. read more

It's hard to put into words how great this was. My husband and I ordered takeout from here on a Wednesday evening and both ordered the Shawarma plate. It's the best we've had in Austin. The meat was delicious, and was well balanced with the tahini, tabbouleh and hummus. And they give you a ton of pita to go with your plate. Went here last night and was charged 12% for using my credit card. They added $1 to each plate ($12.50 each instead of $11.50 which is an 8.7% upcharge) and on top of that they added a 3% service fee ($.75), so the total was $25.75 instead of the listed price of $23.00 ($25.75/ $23.00 = 12%). Beyond that, I've had almost all the things on their menu and it's all rock solid. Their felafel is some of the best textured I have ever had. I returned again and sat for quite a spell enjoying the calm and quiet on a beautiful day. The owner, one of the kindest people I have met, was just opening up the business for the day. I ordered some kebab and he suggested preparing it slightly different than I originally planned. This is where it gets interesting. In Lebanon and throughout the Mid-East, balance is everything with food. The method the meat is cooked can have a direct impact on the amount of meat that is used, as well as condiments as I learned from grandmothers and workers in those areas. Any type of bread adds a dimension as does anything else. This, in my humble opinion, is why often people are sometimes put off by Lebanese or Middle-Eastern food, as piles upon piles, to have a large looking quantity, rather than focusing upon the individual bite, is more of an Americanized style. You will notice this when you eat and eat and eat and still are not satisfied. A smaller, more balanced serving of this style of food is essential to really just stop, and chew each bite many more times to enjoy the flavor. I am quite keen on this little place. My suggestion is to not decide what you want, until you go up to the window and chat with the owner about flavors that interest you in food and let him build from there. There is a lot more pickling in the Lebanese style, just as an example. I also got the opportunity to meet the owner's charming wife, who was bringing in some items made AT HOME rather than from a food distributor corporation's 18 wheeler. A Lebanese meal can last all day, and on special occasions for all weekend, so slow enjoyment is the key. Don't rush and don't wolf down your food. You will not be sorry. read more

So, I must say I am quite disappointed and will not be a return customer. In fact, I would recommend Arby's for gyros and Sabra for hummus. Better price, better taste, just better. Ordered the gyro kebab pita, the gyro plate, and the hummus and pita. The gyro meat itself was quite tasty. However both the hummus and the sauce were quite sour, and not in a good way. The sour sauce in the kebabs permeated the kebabs and ruined the meat flavor. The plates were OK, but again, too much sour sauce and sour hummus. The pita seemed to be halfed, so flat like a tortilla. The meal just wasn't enjoyable. On top of that, the portions were really small for the price. read more
