I went to Nasha with my sister for a New Year's lunch, and it was my first time there. I didn't realize beforehand that it's an Indo-Mexican fusion spot, but we were excited to try a variety of dishes and share everything. We started with the puff samosas, which were surprisingly large and very filling. The crust was perfectly crispy and packed with a generous amount of flavorful filling. Since we're vegetarian, we had to double-check a few items--some curries are made with chicken stock (for example, we wanted the Malvani egg curry but couldn't get it because of that). The staff was helpful in clarifying what was vegetarian. We ended up ordering the Millionaire's Curry and were able to get it with tofu for extra protein, along with jalapeño naan and rice. The portions were more than enough for two people who weren't super hungry. The naan was really delicious, with nicely crisped edges, and the curry was rich, comforting, and full of flavor. Overall, everything we tried was delicious, the portions were generous, and we appreciated the flexibility for vegetarians. Definitely planning to come back and try more items next time. read more

This is the Indian restaurant you've been looking for. The most amazing, flavorful chicken tikka masala I've had since I moved to town. It's delicious, the takeout was prepared quickly and the chicken was succulent. I ordered the vegetable samosas as an appetizer. They were crispy in the outside, soft on the inside and perfectly seasoned. I loved the spiciness of the mint chutney and the sweetness of the tamarind sauce. Will be ordering here again and again! We absolutely love this place and this time we introduced someone else to it. It's so good! They have such a clear culinary point of view and show a deep-seated passion for their menu. Our waiter took good care of us and made solid recommendations. The food came out in a timely manner. We started with a pitcher of delicious margaritas and some amazing samosas. Then entrees, followed by a shared dessert. Soo good! Their Indian food is great but we tend to stick with the IndoTexMex fusion because it's so unique. And we love the vibe here. The food is very good, their issue is the serving sizes. I got the chicken curry verde. It comes in a dish with exactly 6 chunks of chicken, 4 bell pepper pieces, and the sauce. It was easy to count since it was so little. And a side of rice. It felt like I was mostly just eating rice, and for $18 I would like more substance. I don't think it would hurt them to add a few more pieces of meat and veggies into the curry. The lunch special on the wall seemed to be the same thing except it also came with like 5 other items for the same price, so maybe only come during lunch? read more

Last Friday my friend and I did a strength and track workout at 6:30pm, and we were very hungry afterwards. We wanted something Asian and also wanted to try a new place in South Austin. I suggested Nasha, since another friend mentioned he had gone there recently. I was also curious, since I always pass by there on the way to Gold's gym. The idea of fusion Indian and Tex Mex intrigued me. There were lots of gluten-free options on the menu. I chose the Onion Pakoda appetizer: sliced onions batter fried with chickpea flour and spices, served with mint chutney. It sounded like a tasty Indian variation on onion rings, which I can never have because of the glutinous wheat-based coating. The server said it was a large portion, and she wasn't lying! It was a heaping serving that could surely satisfy my post-workout appetite. The battered onions were so tasty, and the mint chutney was the perfect accompaniment. Though I was hungry, I couldn't finish it all. The server brought me a takeout container, and I was able to enjoy the rest the next day. The onions held up nicely in the microwave, and I paired them with a homemade hamburger. The restaurant is clean and bright. One nice touch is they serve water in silver cups. How has this Indo-Mex fusion restaurant existed for so long without me knowing about it?! We stumbled upon this place while we were in the nearby area and decided to try it out. And oh my gosh, the food was soo good! Paneer tikka masala enchiladas! What a delightful concept. The tortillas were stuffed with well-seasoned shredded paneer, crunchy and topped with the most flavorful tikka sauce and fried onions. I absolutely devoured it. The chicken tikka tacos were also delicious but really, the enchiladas stole the show. I have noticed that many a times, fusion food seems more like "confusion" if the the combined flavors do not complement each other but that was not the case here at Nasha. The dishes were a perfect combination of the best flavors from both cuisines. There was only one staff member behind the counter who also doubled as the server, but service was still quick and we didn't feel unattended at any point. THE BIG: Located in South Austin in the same shopping center as Yoshiko ramen and jet's pizza. It's also conveniently across the golds gym I go to every sunday for work outs. Parking lot available. Indoor and outdoor seating available. THE BLACK AND WHITE: I came here with the wife and a few friends to grab a bite to eat and connect. Service is typical, you get to choose where to sit and then you order at the front and the food comes out. We got the veg puff samosas, tofu saag, paneer tikka masala, naan, kheema masala and chicken biryani. All had great flavors. My favorite was the paneer tikka masala with a close second being the tofu saag. THE FINAL BAMBOO: Overall damage done here was ~$90 for 4 people and a ton of food. The most unexpected surprise you will ever find. Normally, I don't think fusion restaurants are all that good. It's what typically happens when you try to satisfy a wider population while making the food rather average. This restaurant is a wonderful exception to that rule. The appetizers are very creative and bring together flavors that you normally wouldn't think go together. The Tikka queso on criisp naan bread is tremendous. The samosas are also excellent. The quesadillas fit the style of the restaurant and they are made with naan bread is also very good. I sampled the coconut, Indian curry, and thought it was great. This cuisine is not found here in Austin very often, and is more indicative of what you would find in for Eastern India. The restaurant is probably best visited in non-peak hours because there are only a few tables inside. There are some tables outside as well. The service was great and the price is reasonable and this one is well worth the five stars that yelp permits. Today's my birthday (hooray 51!) and my coworker treated me to lunch. We decided to try Nasha and I'm so happy we did. The waiter suggested the lunch special and so we went for it. The curry of the day was Saag, which we learned was a spinach-based dish. I decided to go with lamb as my protein. It was delicious. The waiter described it as a medium spice and I'd have to agree. It wasn't "chug water" hot, but I did find my nose running a little. I'd say the perfect spice level. The plate was enough to feed 2 comfortably and each item was in its own compartment on a large round aluminum plate. Beautiful presentation (I uploaded a photo). Salad, Fried veggies, cabbage, garbanzo beans... and a mint chutney to tie it all together. Served with 4 big pieces of naan. All for $17. Beautiful and clean restaurant. First off, I really like the cute little outdoor area. Kinda takes you out of the fact that you're in a small shopping center. Second, the parking area is kinda small here but I imagine one can park closer to Gold's Gym. This place is, for all intents and purposes, a counter-serve restaurant. You go up to a counter to order and the employees bring out the food and water. Getting more water / paying the bill and all that requires you going up to the front counter. The expected tip is a minimum of 18% and the prices are a bit higher than one might expect by about 30-50%. All of that said, this place was high on my list to try out and I "finally" got around to trying it out. I was surprised just how much I liked it! Basmati rice is something I'm still getting used to personally and it is the main thing that keeps me away from Indian food but when you have tasty food to overpower the taste then it all works out. My lamb enchiladas were noticeably smaller than the chicken but still a nice portion size as you can see in my picture. There was a nice little spice to this dish and the guac-pico-lettuce mix was fantastic. I was taken away by how much I liked it. Similarly, I'm usually not that into most curries except a few Thai curries but the Millionaires Curry was really darn good. I'm so glad we got a Nasha on South Congress. I had heard good things so we went there for date night. They have a nicely decorated patio though it was too hot to enjoy today we sat in the dining area by the bar. Service was very attentive. We enjoyed $2 off happy hour drinks which seemed to include most drink menu items with a few exceptions. I enjoyed a Smoky Paloma and I definitely recommend it but be careful it's hot! The lamb samosas were very crispy and big. We wanted to try their Tex Mex so we got the Tandoori chicken tacos and then we got Lamb Tikka masala. The tacos are a new favorite with a surprisingly addictive flavor combination. The Masala was buttery and perfectly seasoned. To top it off we got jalapeño naan. This was one of our favorite parts . I have found myself rather recently obsessed with Indian food so while on a work trip Yelp helped me locate some nearby options, Nasha's downtown location was among those but I noticed a second location so on my following visit, while off SoCo, I knew Nasha would be getting a visit. I am happy to report that this new location in no way disappointed. Coming in for lunch on a Thursday, I found a pretty empty restaurant, only a couple of tables were occupied. The entrance to the business is on the back end of a shopping center, entering through their patio dining. The server greeted me, handing me the menu and telling me to feel free to have a seat while I perused the menu. When my mind was made up, I went up to the counter to place my order: Paneer Chana Saag with Garlic Naan and an order of Veggie Samosas to start (shout-out to the server for helping me decide between that or the Tikka con Queso and not steering me wrong). After a very brief wait the Veggie Samosas arrived and they were wonderfully over-stuffed, hot, fresh, and delicious. They were served with two sauces both of which were enjoyable. As I finished my first samosa, my entree arrived along with my side of garlic naan. The dish was a perfect mix of creamy and spicy, just like the samosas it was served hot, fresh, and delicious. Start-to-finish, every part of my lunch at Nasha exceeded expectations. The food was wonderful, as was the service and I can't wait for my next trip to South Austin so I can pay Nasha another, well deserved and delicious, visit and try even more of their incredible looking menu. read more

A nice fusion surprise restaurant near us! I've never heard of a Tex-Mex Indian food fusion and it did not disappoint. The menu options are creative with a balance of both flavors. We tried 2 appetizers and shared the enchiladas. The Tikka con queso was pretty good. The Indian crisp (papadum?) that is served with it is so thin it kept breaking. Its not thick enough to hold the dip. The samosas were delicious! They were hot, fresh, crispy, and flavorful. Quite large too! I enjoyed both of the chutneys served with them. The tamarind chutney was sweet and the mint had a spicy kick. The lamb enchiladas were pretty tasty. I thought the fusion worked well here. I'm glad it's located on our side of top. I'm usually pretty picky with Mexican food and don't eat Indian food a lot so I was a bit nervous to try this place. I was pleasantly surprised with how good it was! The tikka masala sauce over my enchiladas was really good!! It had such a nice flavor and the chicken in the enchiladas was really well cooked. I'm a big fan of basmati rice so I thought it worked really well. I think this was a well developed fusion dish. I had $24 enchiladas at another place the week before and this was way better! I also had mango lassi, I thought it was good but it was my first time trying so not sure how it meets other people's standards. The restaurant was pretty empty when we went but we got served pretty fast and the food still came out hot. I knew this was going to be a fail when I looked at my chicken biryani and saw how pale the rice was. Also, I only counted 8 small chunks of chicken in the sea of flavorless rice. I ordered this dish "Desi hot" and there was not even the slightest hint of heat. At $17, this is one of the most overpriced/underwhelming dishes money can buy. The only reason this isn't a 1 star is because the food did not make me gag (though I did almost break my teeth a few times on massive cardamom pods.) Don't eat here. Go to Asiana, Tandoori Lounge, Jaipur Palace, or literally anywhere else for that matter. read more

I'm absolutely delighted there's a new Indian restaurant down south and they offer weekday lunch Thalis! Nasha is this Tex-Indian inspired restaurant with fresh ingredients and unique recipes. Some Indian classics like Channa masala and biryani exist on their menu. I opted for a chicken thali and it came with chicken verde masala. It was a unique blend of Mexican and Indian cuisine but tasted nice enough to want to order again. I also really enjoyed the channa masala--for me that was the standout. I wonder if they serve channa masala with bhatura as that's my guilty pleasure. I wasn't a huge fan of the cabbage dish but it's personally because I'm just not a cabbage fan in general. The naan was super nice and I absolutely loved the portion they gave overall for the thali. I had plenty left to take home. Well Nasha is in our opinion the best Indian food in town and over the years it has managed to become a quintessential Austin experience. We've eaten at Nasha 1 many times, but decided to try the new location, Nasha 2 down on S. Congress a couple of weeks ago. We did not know what to expect. Turns out they serve the same amazing food as Nasha 1, but with a modern decor that manages to avoid being impersonal and is instead really quite welcoming. We started the meal with papadam (crunchy lentil chips) with the green chutney-- an amazing and spicy combination of green chilis, cilantro, mint and a few other spices. Papadam can also be paired with the tomato based salsa which is nice, but we both prefer the green. One cannot omit the creative beverages; It's an excellent place to bring friends to enjoy happy hour. I had my usual cardamon margarita which is a really fun drink! Phil really enjoys the curry leaf margarita the best. As for entrees, Biryani with panier is generous and bursting with flavor. Phil loves the Shahi Korma which is creamy with a masterful spice mix and a few slivers of ginger on top to give it just the right punch. Of course most dishes can be ordered with varying spice levels to suit almost anyone. We brought a friend who loved Nasha at first sight too, she had the tika masala which is kind of the house specialty with a rich creamy sauce. Hot garlic naan really complements the entrees. If you're lucky you might meet the owner who is an amiable and interesting man. Nasha on S. Congress is a remarkable spot and well worth a visit. We will be back! read more

I keep wanting to like this place, but it just isn't it. I've eaten here quite a bit (partly because of peer pressure). I'm not an Indian food expert, but I know the that the Indian food here doesn't taste as good as more authentic Indian restaurants. The spices and textures are different. The samosas are doughy and the spices just aren't right. The fusion items are better than the pure Indian items because, then it feels okay that it doesn't taste like Indian food. Also the service is just okay. I can tell that the employees are trying, but they don't want to be there. As far as ambiance, all of the decorating feels as cheap as possible. Like tables are made of a plastic that looks like distressed wood. It makes me wonder if they treat the food in a similar way. read more
