Best Shawarma truck ever! Made trips to Austin with my kids just to eat here! Definitely recommend.

I first discovered Tx Shawarma through Lunchdrop and have now been back a total of four times, including bringing my girlfriend and my parents because I loved it that much. That alone says a lot. The sauces are incredible, the chicken is packed with flavor, and the rice is on point. What really sets this place apart for me is the ability to customize your salad and get sauces on the side rather than having everything pre-loaded, which a lot of other shawarma spots don't offer. Generous portions too. The food truck park it sits in also has free, decent parking, so no stress on that front. One thing to be aware of: I have found sharp bone fragments in the chicken on more than one occasion, which is a real safety concern. It may just be a byproduct of how the meat is carved off the spit, but it is something to watch out for. We also received free baklava once as a little treat from the guy running it, which was a genuinely nice gesture. Not my personal favorite dessert, but the hospitality was appreciated. Highly recommend giving this place a try. read more

The yellow basmati rice was delicious and the salad was very refreshing. Flavors were good overall, but the meats were dry and overcooked. The white sauce helped add some moisture. The Beef Kabab Plate came with two skewers, while the Mix Shawarma Plate came with gyros and chicken shawarma. The salad included diced pickles which was interesting and added a nice contrasting acidity. Dolma ($5.99): This came with four pieces of dolma, pita bread, white sauce, and hot sauce. The dolma was better than expected, though I personally prefer falafel. Hummus ($5.99): Delicious and paired perfectly with the soft pita. Baklava ($3): A generous sized pastry that was okay. TX Shawarma is consistently delicious: fresh, homemade, satisfying Halal food. I can't stop ordering the gyro, a hefty wrap (it has to be about one pound) that comes loaded with tomato, cucumbers, tzatziki, and lamb. My husband has an addiction for the chicken shawarma platter because the house made pickles that come with it are a little different every time, and so delicious. "The pickles make it!", he always says. Ordering online yields great results, but for a real treat, go to their location in The Thicket food court so you can grab dessert from Artipasta, or cheesecake or tacos or Vietnamese to go with your shawarma! read more

We were turned away during lunch and told they were not taking orders even though they were "Open" and other customers were getting food before and after us. I made an order through Lunchdrop for work. My first visit was great as you can see from the review. I wish I could say the same about this order. All I received were small hard pieces from the bottom of the tray, no slices, bits and pieces. It's like they scraped out the tray for my order. It was inedible and I tossed it. They should be ashamed to serve such food. read more

Really disappointed with the chicken meat in the shawarma. Rubbery, almost inedible and rice was crunchy as if not cooked all the way through. Spices were all delicious otherwise. Falafel and dolmas were great! read more

I tried this truck once and it was phenomenal. The mix shawarma plate was really good. The gyro meat was succulent and seasoned to middle eastern perfection while the chicken shawarma was also juicy and slightly charred which enhanced the experience. The rice was perfect and if you don't like the salad well my friend you need your head checked! Most have tried a Gyro before and this ranks up there with the best. The lamb was perfectly seasoned, the pita soft and pillowy while the cold crispy lettuce, tomatoes and tzatziki sauce hit all the required notes. As for traditional sides the hummus was tasty and not dry as chic peas can be if not careful. I opted to try the Dolma stuffed grape leaves (stuffed with rice) and reminds me of some of the best Greek Dolmas I've ever had. I highly recommend giving this place a try if you want to be adventurous and experience Greek/middle eastern food. If you are experienced look no further to curb your fix! Bravo! read more

I had been meaning to check out this food cart area since I moved here and finally did. I was a bit surprised to only see three carts so that was disappointing but we knew what we were coming for so it didn't make much of a difference. Anyway, we were also surprised to see that this place's dishes were all under $8! What a deal! I got the shawarma salad, and we also got the dolma and hummus on the side, which each came with some pita. The salad was more meat than salad, and a movie of it, and while tasty wasn't really what I was hoping for or expecting. The meat was a bit salty and I really was hoping it would be more salad. In any case it's a great deal and very tasty just be aware that if you're trying to be healthy and eat something light even the salad isn't really the way to go read more

Lunch is SO affordable. Like $8 per person for their plates. I love their falafels. They're delicious, perfectly moist in the middle, tasty and flavorful, and surrounded with a crispy outer shell of goodness. Veggie eaters rejoice! I ordered the falafel plate and it was so yummy. The saffron rice is DELISH and I love that my plate also came with lettuce, tomato and cucumbers. The weird part for me was the pickles. I'm not opposed to pickles, but the pickled flavor was a bit off for my plate. The portion size is great for lunch. I saved mine and I basically had a late night snack later that day. It's a solid spot where you can expect to be full and flavored up. However, it doesn't beat some other falafel I've had from spots like TKS up north and Bay Area falafel in CA. They're located in the same location as other food trucks like Manoli's ice cream (YUM. They have soursop here...I mean c'mon!!) and another truck. First time having TX Shawarma, a student opine works here and he kept telling me to come visit him at work so that he could make me a delicious meal! He wasn't there today when I went to visit but the food at least what I had ordered was delicious!! I've had a fairly decent amount of Shawarma from around ATX but none tasted this fresh. I tried this food trailer out for dinner. They are located in the South Austin Food Trailer Park. There is easy ordering online. I placed a pickup order for a lamb gyro and a side of falafel. The order was ready to go when I went to pick it up, and the gentleman working the truck was really friendly. The gyro is really really good. I had seen prior pictures where I thought maybe there were too many vegetables - not the case! Between the sauces, the impeccably seasoned lamb, and the fresh vegetables, it was absolutely wonderful. To be honest, I wasn't even planning on eating here but the other halal cart I wanted to eat at was closed, so I turned around and ended up here. And to be honest, I'm very glad that I did as Tx Shawarma has some of the best meat over rice plates I've had in the city, with a price point that is unbeatable. I really dig the mix plate over rice - spiced lamb/gyro and tender chicken breast over rice that's warmed up on the griddle for that slight char, a heaping amount of turmeric rice, an obligatory accoutrement of salad, and of course that white sauce. Although I could go for a full plate of just the gyro meat, I have to note that if you're more of a chicken type of person, theirs is bar none the best in the city as I rarely get chicken breast that's cooked well, in nice strips and not dry (and that's without help from the sauce!). Other places tend to have chicken thigh, which is fine, but is finely chopped, which I like on the gyro for that hashed crisp feel, but not so much for the chicken. Regardless of what you get, there's plenty of food to go around - easily 1.5 meals unless you're starving. They have a location with some other great food trucks down south, so would definitely recommend stopping by for a meal! read more

I am a fan of this kind of cuisine and I frequently order the combo plates. I wanted to give this place a try. Tx shawarma is a mediocre place. I ordered this meal from Ubereats and it was mediocre at best. The gyro was extremely flavorful and the addition of pickles was very clever. However, the meal overall was missing something flavor wise that you can get at another establishment. The fries were also decent but nothing special. The gyro was 5/5 but the chicken I wouldn't give full stars as it was not as flavorful as I hoped. Overall, I think I would go to another food truck first before ordering the combo plate, but if I was craving anything with gyro I know this is the place to go! read more

Great shawarmas! I tried the chicken shawarma wrap and it was delicious! The chicken was well seasoned and cooked perfectly. The combination of sauces that they use compliments the marinated meat and veggies in the wrap. If I could change anything about the wrap... it's the pita. The pita is the thick and fluffy kind. I like my pita bread thin and soft but they are very hard to come by in the US. I got to try the fries and felafel as well. The felafels were a bit on the salty side but the texture was really good. The fries were nice and crisp and came with a great garlic sauce. We'll be definitely going back for more! Great find! read more
