**HEALTHY AND TASTY FAST-CASUAL MEDITERRANEAN STYLE CUISINE **
NOT A FAN OF THOSE OTHER PLACES
I don't know about you, but I'll grab something at Chipotle or Moe's maybe once every four or five months. Believe me, I want to like what's served there, as it seems to be a healthy choice, but the limited options, and mediocre taste keeps me away.
On the other hand, if I'm in Holbrook, and looking for something to eat, Hummus Mediterranean is a favorite place for me. And the concept here is simple fast casual - like Chipotle or Moe's - but it's maximally upgraded.
WHAT'S IT ALL ABOUT?
So now when ordering, the three menu options are rice bowl, salad bowl, or pita sandwich. However, that's the where the simplicity ends. Because one of the beauties of this restaurant, is the vast number of choices available to customize your meal. And to be honest, ordering for the first time can be somewhat daunting. But once you figure out what the heck's going on, you'll love creating a different tasty feast each time you visit.
But most importantly, what really makes this restaurant shine, is the quality of the food. Let me tell you, there is no cafeteria style crapola being served here. The meats are tender, savory, and seasoned well, and the salads and vegetables are super fresh. In addition, the other prepared items, such as rice, falafel, and fried zucchini - to name just a few - are delicious. And then to top it off, a free serving of tasty hummus, either plain or flavored, is included with each meal.
But now, even though the food here is delicious, the main concept of this restaurant is healthy eating. And you'll probably notice the pictures of athletes and Bodybuilders behind the counter. And whenever I visit, I'll see customers that are obviously training for bodybuilding, MMA, or sports (like the younger me) - or - dieting to lose weight (like the older me).
WHATS GOOD HERE
- The falafel and the fried zucchini are great vegetarian
options.
- All the meats are good, but I like the chicken or lamb
gyro best.
- The chick pea salad, eggplant salad, pickled cabbage,
and sauteed green beans are really tasty sides.
- You can ask for a toasted regular, or whole wheat
pita to go along with the salad or rice bowls.
- Definitely check out the refrigerator section where
they sell different healthy snacks such as their
famous overnight oats (Google this).
- The spicy tzatziki sauce or the spicy feta are fantastic toppings, if you enjoy spicy.
- You have to try the free serving of chocolate hummus, which tastes like a healthy chocolate pudding.
THE SERVICE/DECOR
The servers are friendly, and will help guide first-timers through the ordering process. As there are many ways to customize your meal, and some limits to the number of different ingredients that can be added to each order.
The restaurant is relatively small, with a few two-seater tables to eat-in, however, there are more tables available on an outdoor patio. Visually it's clean, and decorated in a utilitarian way. And a lot of space inside is taken by the numerous refrigerated display cases, holding prepared meals, overnight oats, and desserts.
PARTING THOUGHTS
So if your training, trying to gain weight, attempting to lose weight, looking to eat healthy, or just want a tasty meal, Hummus is the place. And with all the different available options, it's possible to eat here multiple times per week without losing interest. And by doing this, as a bonus, you'll be healthier also. So what's not to like?
