Del Rio certainly has Tex-Mex covered. But if you are hankering for quality BBQ, then Humo Prime is your place! Had very good brisket, pork, and sausage, as well as beans and dirty rice on the side. Finished up with some banana pudding. All excellent! The staff was very friendly, and talked this first time visitor through their different options. My only complaint might be that they are popular enough to sell out of certain items. So don't wait around! If I find myself in Del Rio again, I will be sure to make a return visit. I live in Colorado so when I think of Texas BBQ, this place is what I think of! No line so quick service, friendly and informative staff. We both got the Texas trinity: brisket, center cut ribs, 1 sausage link and 2 sides. I got the Mac n cheese and jalapeño creamed corn (pictured), my husband got the Tex-mex beans and potato salad. We each got a side of pickles but you could get onions or jalapeños. We also got "Texas twinkies" which are jalapeños stuffed with brisket and wrapped in bacon. They have 3 homemade bbq sauces that were all fabulous! But the meats were so flavorful and fall off the bone that you don't need sauce! Price was reasonable for the large amount of food. While in town, I did some soft searching online for great places to eat in Del Rio, and Humo Prime Barbecue kept popping up. Not wanting a chain for dinner, I opted for something more Del Rio specific. I hopped in the car and took a little cruise. I pulled into the parking lot and had to double check my address. This place is tucked away inside a residential looking neighborhood, and fooled me at first. It resembled a house at first, so it threw me off. There were no cars in the very small parking lot. I parked and went right in. I walked into an empty restaurant with a cozy, no frills, table and chairs set up. Simple, yet welcoming. I bellied up to the counter and I was greeted promptly. The kind lady behind the counter asked if I had been there before, to which I answered no. I perused the simple menu on the wall. I had my heart set on brisket walking in, so that was the easy part of the equation. What side to pair with it, however, was a difficult choice. This is your typical meat by the pound place, but they also had plates and specials. $5 Texas twinkees were today's special. I opted for the $20 one meat and one side combo. I told the young lady all of their sides look delicious and was not sure which one I was going to pick. I asked for a recommendation, and she informed me the jalapeño cream corn and Tex Mex beans were her favorite, but they all were delicious. "Would you like to try the sides?" she asked with a big smile on her face. Yes.... Yes please. I tried all of the sides, but that did not help my decision. The jalapeño cream corn was amazing. Creamy, and the jalapeño had a nice taste, and no kick, perfect balance. The rice was a little spicy, but delicious. The beans were amazing. Green beans, delicious and not out of a can. The sides were all amazing. But the one I went with was the Mac & Cheese. Generally, I do not go for Mac & Cheese because the clumpy texture, and I am not a fan. However, this Mac & Cheese was very creamy and velvety, and the spiral pasta gave it a premium taste. Very delicious. Also, for good measure, I had them throw on a pork rib on the side to gauge it against brisket. I paid for my food and got it to go. Generally on to go orders, I do not tip, but this trip called for it. Especially after letting me sample the sides. That is not typical of barbecue joints. On the way out, they have a table with different sauces. I tried them all and I went with the regular sauce and the spicy sauce. I got back to my hotel room and went right to work. The brisket was amazing. It melted in my mouth and tasted amazing. I then ate the rib and it was fall off the bone tender. The Mac and Cheese was amazing, and I did not have one complaint. When my travels bring me back to Del Rio, you can bet Humo will be on my short list. I am very picky with barbecue and consider myself to be a snob when it comes to Texas barbecue, so for this place to make my short list impresses me. I would easily put this up against the big name barbecue places back home near San Antonio. Next time I will go for broke and get all the sides. Very delicious. Stop by if you are near here. So yum!!! This place must be new; we found it to be an excellent pit stop on our drive through town. The brisket jiggled. The rib meat bones fell out. The green beans were green. BBQ as it should be!!! The vinegar-based coleslaw was amazing. And the pickled onions. And the house-made pickles!! Actually everything was tasty. The service was great; we went it during the afternoon lull and he gave us samples of the sides and general details about the food. He really took pride in everything being freshly-made. Outstanding, they are killing it. Stopped at a few BBQ places on vacation, one of which had awards plastered all over the wall, Texas Monthly writeups, etc. - nothing as good as Humo. Brisket excellent, jalapeno cheese sausage with the biggest hunks of cheese and jalapeno - excellent. Ribs excellent. Coleslaw - I hate coleslaw but my wife got some and it was absolutely delicious. Had slivers of apples in it and some other things that I don't remember. I've never had anyone convert me on coleslaw until now. Talked to one of the pit guys there, he said they are trying to come up with tasty things with their own spin to stand out from the pack. I mentioned that my wife is vegtarian but still likes to try all the sides with me. He said - oh, I happened to make some vegetarian chili this morning for the heck of it. It's not on the menu. She had that and said it was incredible. We're in a BBQ rennaisance right now, everyone can do brisket, ribs, whatever. The places that interest me the most are ones like Humo, and there aren't a lot of them, places that come up with delicious, unique, unpretentious food up and down the entire menu. Stopped in at Humo BBQ on our way back to San Antonio. There aren't enough words to describe how excellent the food is at this traditional Texas style BBQ joint. Everything we tried including the Brisket and smoked Turkey was delicious. They had a myriad of BBQ sauces to choose from and even their pickles and marinated onion were full of flavor. Stopped by the to pick up some dinner. I will say the service was good and the staff was very nice. We got some brisket sandwiches and sides. They brisket was good but a little dry but had good flavor. We also noticed there was some very odd after taste maybe bad smoke or some sort of chemical. The potato salad and Mac and cheese are good. My wife was not a fan of the pickles but overall it was a good experience. We will be back to try some of the other stuff on the menu. read more
