I hope that what Tarantino did for Uma Thurman I could do for Lou's Pizza with my pics. Futile attempts at capturing perfection. The pizza is wood fired - and has that delicious charred crust that drives that fact home. My first night in Del Rio, I ordered the Supreme. It was delicious- the only drawback for me was the way it was topped. The heaping pile of fresh ingredients was tasty, but made the slices hard to handle. You truly needed to fold these in half to keep it all together. Subsequent orders (my one night off of the week treats) were create your own pizzas. Same ingredients, same mind-blowing results. The first CYO pizza I got was likely in my Top 5 Pizzas ever. If you knew me and my addiction, I mean, history with pizza, you would realize the significance of that comment. I wanted to simultaneously savor and inhale this mad monstrosity of flavor. The salty ham, the freshness of the veggies - all of them combined for an unforgettable taste experience. That CYO combo ended up being my go-to. It could be my go-to if I could only eat one kind of pizza from only one place for the rest of my life. Located right off Veterans. New and clean inside. When you walk in you can smell the wood fire, but it's not smoky or overwhelming or anything. They had several tvs on different channels and had some pleasant music that wasn't too loud or inappropriate. The space was welcoming and clean. Walked in I was greeted, and I told the guy I had never been here so he explained sizes and specials and helped me order what I needed. They had a beer fridge for bottled beer so I decided to order and dine in. Pizza was quick and tasted yummy. I really liked the char on the bottom and the bubbled bits. I do not think this kinda Pizza will last a delivery or reheat so best to eat in or do pickup and enjoy asap. Something was a tad salty. Not sure where that came from. From the entrance, the windows look dirty, the place is so dark you can even see how clean your surroundings are. I was in Del Rio this weekend for business, the wife and I were craving pizza so picked this spot as it was near the hotel. We were extremely surprised at the quality and taste of this pizza. We ordered a basic cheese pizza, the thin crunchy wood fired crust was some of the best we had. The pizza sauce was light and did not overwhelm and the cheese was melted to perfection. I absolutely love Lou's pizza! The sausage and pepperoni are so flavorful. My aunt enjoys the gluten-free pizza (made w/cauliflower) - which is the perfect size for a personal pizza. We've always had good service when we eat there. I love that not only does Lou's Pizza taste fantastic, Lou gives back to the community. He's gracious and generous. As soon as you place the order you immediately emailed saying it's canceled and will be refunded in a "couple" days. Like most places, they can't deliver onto the base, so I called to see if they can deliver to the gate, "sorry we don't deliver out of city limits" then why partner with someone that says you do? I asked if he read the reviews, he said "No", I recommended him to read the reviews, he just looked away, not interested. The owner, charges for a cup of water, unheard of, after the look in my face, he decided not to charge the cups of water, one dollar each. The pizza we order, had no tomato sauce, I sent back, they had to cook another pizza, and then, in the new cooked pizza, the vegetables were raw, only warm. I had to ask for Parmesan cheese, salt and crush peppers, and Lou pointed where they were, next to the cash register, he got'em for me after I look at him surprised, he wanted me to get up and get it myself. This is a delightful place! From the outside this does not look to be much, but they have done a great job of decorating and developing an excellent product. I was promptly greeted and attended to when I arrived. The decor is modern, casual and inviting. There are several small booths (for four), and a number of tables with chairs and that which can be rearranged to accommodate larger groups. There are tiny twinkly lights on the ceiling reminiscent of stars on a clear night. Very innovative. I am not a fan of TVs in restaurants, but theirs did not dominate the atmosphere. The menu offers salads, pastas, sandwiches and pizza. I did not try the pasta, but there was a family that came in which apparently were there the night before and were returning for more pasta. I ordered a small salad, a small pizza, and some iced tea. The iced tea is fresh brewed which is always a plus for me. I ordered the Mediterranean salad and requested they leave off the cucumbers. They did as I requested. The "small" salad was huge, and would easily be a side salad for three people, or a meal for one person. The small pizza was the size of a large dinner plate. After eating about 1/3 of the salad I could only eat 1/2 of the pizza. They use a wood (oak) burning oven, which gives a special flavor to their baked entrées. If you have not had pizza baked in a wood-burning oven you need to try it. The pizza itself was exceptional. As I had slowed down considerably, the server brought me two to-go containers without having to request them. So guess what I'm about to have for lunch? Those who attended me were friendly and did their job well. Their product is excellent and generous. Their prices are great considering the size of what you receive. They have some specials which can make it even more reasonable for families. I really enjoyed this restaurant and believe you will too. We are in Del Río for one day, Christmas Eve, and my son (currently living here) insisted we try this place. Luckily they were open (closing at 6pm for the holiday), and we had a chance to try it. We arrived around 3pm, and the restaurant was warm and cozy. We ordered the white pizza, a traditional cheese pizza, a Mediterranean salad and the garlic cheese bread. Everything we had was delicious! Wood fired pizza places can be tricky...over cooked (burnt to a crisp) or undercooked and doughy, but each of our orders were cooked to perfection. So. I drive out to this area on occasion to get awwww from home. This trip I took a chance to get away from my favorite pizza joint out there to try something new. And I regret this choice. I literally was on the side of the road defecating my brains out. I could not make my return to San Antonio fast enough. The only meal I had in a 14 time periood was here and it caused me to evacuate my bowels worse than any colonoscopy prep.
