Food is okay. I have eaten here many times but your better off going to Section Hand or Cotton Patch if you want chicken fried steak or chicken fried chicken. They gravy or the fried part gives these such a weird taste. My friend and I both did not like them both and couldn't eat them. We ate here for dinner on a Friday night the wait staff was superb however the food was okay at its best. We order the ribeye medium rare as it was recommended to be tender and juicy lets just say by the time I finish eating it my jaw was in so much pain it was so chewy. Rolls were okay tasted more like store bought. My favorites I would have to say was the homemade ranch it was outstanding. The only reason I am giving 2 stars was for the half descent service! Obviously the chef has never heard of seasoning! My mesquite grilled mahi mahi was over cooked and had no seasoning other than the overwhelming smoke it had on it! The baked potato was cooked 3 days ago and re-heated! It was dark brown thru n thru and skin was hard as a rock! My Husbands chicken fried steak looked awesome! Worst dining experience. Service and food service was POOR. To start, the appetizer was overcooked. No plates were provided for the appetizers. I ordered a salad with my meal and it was not brought out until the meal was brought out. No part of the meal was hot, and the grilled shrimp was barely edible due to an excess of a salty seasoning. We had already had our fill of the poor service by this point, and from the cursing and arguing amongst staff in the kitchen, the experience wasn't improving. This place was NOT busy by any means. The waitress was more interested in talking to the busboy than attending her guests. We boxed up our meal and ordered a dessert - the butter rum apple pie. If you've had it, you know it's served on a piping hot cast iron griddle, and the sauce sizzles when poured over. Disappointed again. Not only was is not hot, we weren't given spoons. Since we had become accustomed to the lousy service, we had each kept back a fork. It's pretty impossible to eat that particular dessert with a fork. When the waitress finally made another appearance, we asked for spoons. I do not believe we will be returning any time soon, if ever. read more

My daughter and I came here for dinner during the week. We came around 6 pm so it was not crowded. We had the catfish. It was delicious, cooked perfectly. The baked sweet potatoes and rolls were excellent. The ambiance was very nice. The waitstaff was friendly and efficient. No complaints. Will definitely come back. read more

Went there the end of June 2 times. Walked out the second time. Service was extremely slow. Took me after 10 min to find someone to clean a table so I can sit. I looked around the place as I was waiting, Hostess & Waitress seem to be concerned what was on their phones vs cleaning up. The Restaurant itself was VERY DIRTY - from the floor, to the tables where people had left before I got there were still piled with dirty dishes. The floor walking back to the kitchen area had food spilled on it and had not clean up. This place is a health risk for sure ! Board of Health should make a surprise visit ! Told Manager of my findings, and he said "Thank you" and walked away ! Amazing ! Drive an hour to Abilene - that is worth it ! read more

Humphrey Petes is our favorite restaurant in the area. Food is always great! Last trip I had the steak and grilled shrimp. Steak was seasoned and cooked perfectly. The shrimp was grilled perfectly too (many steakhouses seem to over cook the grilled shrimp - not here). Save room for dessert!!! read more

They have pretty good food, I think the steaks are better around lunch, but thats just my opinion. They have alot of really good stuff and a crazy atmosphere, pretty fun place. If you want to tip the cook ask for them, alot of the waitstaff wont give the cooks what you leave for them, some will but alot wont. read more

Although not every experience at Humphrey Pete's can be as bad as ours was, one bad apple can spoil the whole bunch. Shortly after moving to Brownwood, we decided to visit this establishment for dinner. Shortly after being seated, we got our first visit from the waiter to take our order. We ordered an appetizer of Fried Pickles and we each ordered the pork chops for the meal. We then waited patiently for our appetizer to arrive. The Fried Pickles were a no-show, much like the waiter for the following 45 minutes after placing our order! We literally did not SEE our waiter for 45 minutes! When he finally did show up, he served us pork chops that were STILL uncooked, and still no appetizer! He didn't even wait when I called after him to tell him we were missing our appetizer. After cutting into the uncooked pork chops and finding them completely raw through-out, I finally flagged down another waiter and asked for the manager. When the manager arrived and heard our complaint, he simply explained that when we ordered the pork chops, they did not defrost enough of them for that day and had to get them from the freezer to cook for us. Couldn't the waiter come to tell us that and give us the option to change our meal choice, instead of avoiding us for 45 minutes while they TRIED to cook them from a frozen state? I told the manager that we felt we shouldn't have to pay for they meal that we definitely could not eat, and he comped the meal and we left. I have never been back. They must be doing something right to stay open, but they didn't impress me. read more

Took my mother here we got steaks and bacon wrapped shrimp. the bacon was bad and smelled like gym socks. the steaks were near raw, I ordered med. well. and when I asked if they could cook it a little bit longer they argued with me.
