James Jones & Associates - Large rocks he gathered from our property, but charged us for 2 LOADS from the quarry!

I have used James Jones and Associates now on three occasions, first to install a septic system,…read moresecond to clear trees for a pole barn and third site prep for a pool. With regard to our septic system, it is robust. We have had many large family gatherings at our house on extended stays and we have never had an issue. Thank you! Our pole barn project required a very large tree and root ball removed immediately adjacent to a carport. After consulting with several other companies no one one would touch it. James Jones removed it with no damage what so ever to the car port! I was impressed! Our pool site prep job was most recently complete and it's a quality job. Overall, I recommend James Jones and Associates.

My adventures with this company started on a positive note. We needed our septic and drain field…read morereplaced. We reached out to as many companies as possible, not to find the cheapest, but to find ANYONE who would help. Our backyard is on about a 30-degree grade, so anyone who came out almost immediately said that they could not or would not do it. James showed up and said he could conquer it. He seemed a little odd, but I generally like odd. There was a lot of talk about Church and ethics and integrity, and I am usually a pretty good judge of character. Well, my intuition failed me this time. We received an estimate, way higher than we hoped, but after being turned down by every other company around, we figured that it was just going to be a $$$$ situation given the risks involved. So the initial quote was 15-20K for the whole deal. Again, pretty high, but we had to have it done. James and his wife came over to our house around June 20th, 2021, to "go over and sign the contract." At this time, the price went from the 15-20k to right around 28k. He had a barrage of "reasons" for the price increase. He started to challenge the Engineer's design and speak about how he knew more than the engineer; he just didn't have a degree to prove it. He did "seem" knowledgeable, but this was a big red flag moment, but as I stated, he was the ONLY one willing to do the work. After an hour or so of discussion and contract going over, I made several asks for a start time and estimated finish time. He absolutely refused to give either. Red flag # 2 We also gave him a check for almost 15k so he could begin buying materials and getting the job lined up. And then crickets... He was supposed to begin work the first week of July 2021. He didn't actually show up until July 15th. What followed was the most elaborate trail of stories and events, multiple flat tires, health issues, equipment failures, "emergency jobs" for other customers, changes to the plan and engineered design, weather delays showing up after 12 or 1 pm working 2 hours and then disappearing. This went on for over 4 months. He Finally wrapped up his shoddy work or lack thereof around October 4th. Upon which time he was expecting his final payment. I refused to pay him until he came back and actually finished the job, cleaning up his work area, including clearing the 3 inches of gravel and fill dirt off of my driveway and rear patio. Grading the backyard back to the way it was before he started. He sloped the only flat part of our backyard, making it unusable; he was also supposed to "terrace" where the drain field was put in. Our entire backyard was absolutely unwalkable due to his horrific grading he left behind. My wife and I expressed our desire to pay him in FULL as soon as he took care of these items that he left undone. He absolutely refused; when we threatened to hire an attorney, he just quit responding to any communication at all. I sent him pictures of the absolute mess he left behind, and he just had zero interest in making it right. Upon further investigation, we found in looking him up on DOPR that he did not hold the appropriate license to install the level three septic system the state health department determined we needed to have installed, so on top of just being a dishonest, deceitful, lazy, and outright disrespectful, and rude crook of a contractor, he was technically unlicensed for the job he was hired to do and accepted. If you are ever in a situation where you need a contractor, do not use this company or anything tied to Mr. James Jones at James Jones & Associates aka JamesHeavy.com. If you are wondering there are no associates its just him and his wife and kid. Do not be fooled by his nonsense. I have texts and pictures to back up everything posted here.

Our rental management company called them a day or two before Christmas 2024 to handle a simple clog. Before I explain current rating, let me say this. Jason Light had been to this property for the exact same clogged area several years earlier. At that time within a short time he determined that the old 1950s 2" galvanized pipe terminated just below a toilet flange in the basement. He removed the toilet, cleared the clog, and replaced the toilet. He gave a reasonable price and we were happy. This time, albeit right at Christmas, one of his technicians came out. That representative tried a simpler approach and failed to clear the clog. TOTAL FAILURE!!! According to the tenant, that visit left the clog worse. They also billed for the service despite failing to improve the drainage in any way. To add insult the management company passed on Lights estimate of $4326 to tear out and replace that section of line. ARE YOU KIDDING ME?!?!? After getting this news, I called Jason to discuss. After he talked to the technician, he contacted me back to tell me that a section of the line was corroded out. I might add that Jason should have immediately offered to come see the problem or otherwise address. Instead he stated that Lights was on a big job and would not be available for two weeks. I then called other plumbers instead of trusting the first prognosis from Lights. Well, this is where I lost total faith in Lights. The other plumbers replaced the line an unclogged for less than $750. In fact, the clogged area was freed within 10 minutes of arrival and only cost $300. The replacement portion did not even need doing, but I asked for it to be done of my own accord. There was no corrosion in the line. Jason will undoubtedly recognize this property and the situation. It pains me to place this review because I really liked his work several years ago. I have not called him back for the third time for this instance, because he told me he was too busy to get back to me for two weeks anyway. Despite two calls back to him he gave me no assurance or initiative that he would stand behind his company's work. I have removed Lights from property management calls to any property I own. There are plenty other options. Please see my review of at least one better company. That other company was awesome, and has records on the property to avoid overcharging and/failure in the future. I really do hate ripping a small business, but facts are facts. I can just see an older or more naive customer getting shafted by such practices. I hope this plumber will at very least improve their customer service and communication game.
